Caregiver Comfort Amponsah lives up to her name - in countless ways. Nominated by the adult children of a 94-year-old client in declining health, Comfort provided home care offering physical, mental and emotional support to their mother who was bed-bound with advanced dementia and other health challenges.

Comfort knows that one major aspect of dementia care is that behavior can change quickly from calm to agitated to frightened or tearful. She knows how to adapt to all these situations and often anticipates a change so she can intervene to minimize the impact on her client by dancing and singing to Mrs. G.
Among her siblings, Amy lives the closest to her mom, so much of the personal care has fallen onto her shoulders. She explains that being her mother’s caregiver became her first and foremost role, while her role as daughter was slipping further down.
