Epica literally saved my life, after my soul mate went away forever, I met this wonderful band. I remember that We Will Take You With Us was the first I heard and it comforted me, it was like the hug I was waiting for. Simone's hair reminded me so much of my girlfriend, she died in 2011, and beyond that the comparison was painful that helped me in my duel. I think Epica is a really powerful band, their lyrics ... And their latest material has not disappointed me at all. It is forever in my ears and my heart, like the love of my life!
The first time i heard this masterpiece i was 15 years old and now i turned 29 and since then i'm so in love! It takes me to another dimension literally. One night I was listening this song and driving in the middle of the night through a wild route in the Andean mountains, I had opened the window, and in a curve I have to drastically reduce the speed, and suddenly from the sky appears a beautiful giant owl that catch a big mouse in front of me, and the owl watched me to my eyes, I feel the cold steel of that eyes in my soul!!! this was a very beautiful and strong experience for me… I always remember this magic moment of my life every time when I am listening this beautiful song.

As a mid 50's guy there are always new avenues to explore and I am glad I turned a corner in the music maze to find this simply amazing voice, orchestra, heavy metal combination, am currently listening to all the back catalog. Thought Nightwish were good but these are awesome.

They talk about the sunsets they saw, they talk about how the sun turned blood red before diving into the sea and they talk about how they could feel how the sun lost its power and the coolness from the sea and all that fire was only glowing inside.

The Phantom Agony is one of my favorites of Epica. Somewhat simplistic, but great Symphonic Metal straight from the start. Growls could be better, but provide a nice contrast to Simone's voice. If I remember, she was at that time barely 18 years old and not yet too experienced with this style of singing. So, great delivery - cool stuff.
I have only one question as a professional musician. Where woodwinds? I hear full orchestra, but there are no flutes and oboes and other instruments. This question live with me 20 years. Maybe there is playback? Interesting...

The Phantom Agony is one of my favorites of Epica. Somewhat simplistic, but great Symphonic Metal straight from the start. Growls could be better, but provide a nice contrast to Simone's voice. If I remember, she was at that time barely 18 years old and not yet too experienced with this style of singing. So, great delivery - cool stuff.
