TBH I think Big Hit created this video, this masterpiece, for people like you guys who understand music in the way that you guys play instruments and study and learn from it everyday and maybe base your careers based on music. I think, I mean when I listened to it, I would have never ever thought about how the music itself was trying to trick the listener like the movie "Black Swan" was aiming for. I don't think that Big Hit said "oh let's transform the instruments as the dancers, I bet everyone will understand it", I think they knew that most people wouldn't be able to point it out like you guys did, and I am so thankful for your guys input and knowledge because it just shows how music can be more than what we see, what we can't see in music is the most meaningful
Actually i believe the shadow is accepted a lot later in the album. I might be wrong... but the album obviously goes through various phases and black swan is still in the shadow phase... The first phase was persona (the songs from "map of the soul: persona"), the second phase is shadow, when the shadow takes over and they are all in a very dark depressing place (suga's interlude named shadow, black swan, probably everything up until "ON"!?). And the end is j-hope's Ego, the perfect happy ending. They have overcome their persona, accepted their shadows, and found their true self. But maybe the dancers didn't know about the concept in detail. They choreographed it on their own with little input from big hit.
naylonlove that’s true but I think although black swan is mostly about the dark side before accepting your shadow as part of u, they still addressed the whole message of the album in the mv, which might also be one of the reasons why they released it first
RIGHT someone mentioned "shadow" like halfway thru the video and i got chills bc this WHOLE album is all about this whole concept of shadows.....apparently they say something about shadows in every single song on mts7 👀
That's basically what BTS want to convey within their musicality and discography as an artist aswell. They have accepted the dark shadow they are fighting with in conlusion their past, the resentments to people who looked down on them, that's their shadow and at the end, they want to embraced it as ONE of themselves.
I think the art film is just presenting the first death and not inline with BTS concept as a whole. Remember the dance company interpreted it any way they wanted. Notice how the shadows are lifting him up and the camera doesn't stop there. It pans upward as he slowly sinks trying to fly. Even RM interpreted it that. Watch their reaction video.
I loved what Owen said "the main character was held by the shadow characters. To the middle one it was much more dramatic and passionate - it was like a fight scene almost choreographed and that was like You are fighting with the shadows within yourself. And at the end when it went to more of a resolutional perspective of the beginning but it felt like we had gone through past that. We had gone through that eternity so it felt different. At the end it felt like the Swan had accepted the shadow and the shadow had risen the Swan up" I myself couldn't have had said it better!
And this just goes to show you how universal the message of this song/video are and the struggle of dealing with your shadows, trying to find balance, trying to find fulfillment in life at all stages
Omg finally! The girl at 6:05 was spot on if she was talking about what I think she was. Some people mostly non armys were saying the autotune was overdone but it wasnt supposed to serve as autotune with no purpose. That very odd autotune was the shadow and a combination of all 7...it was like representing the shadow taking over. I explain it kind of weird but some people explain it better. So cool to see someome hear it and immediatley understand the tone of that the song carries
Shannon Rochon there are some other songs that I’ve noticed they used it (maybe it’s not auto tune but a different type of filter) but I wonder if it was used creatively then because though I’m aware Black Swan and some other songs use it for the effect the emotion the art which is amazing, some other songs use it and I kind of can’t hear bts’s voice if that makes sense. It’s like I don’t hear the roughness and rawness of their voice and I’m not sure if I’m describing this right😫. Their voices are now fluid which is cool and satisfying but idk I don’t really like it because it makes a weird sound idk! Maybe if I know the meaning for it, if there is one I could understand why it sounds like that. Their songs still slap👏🏼
"Did they end on like, seven? Scale degree 7?" DUDE I GOT GOOSEBUMPS EVERYTHING MACTH THEY THINK ABIUT EVERYTHING (they are 7 they make 7 years of debut this year and their album is called 7)

tresa chapman fr! I’d people to see more of the artistry that is in BTS and behind the scenes with their dance choreographers and directors for music videos and their whole team. That all of them are geniuses and know what they’re doing lol
@@belle208 Honestly, I’m not even into their music (it’s good, just not my style except for one or two songs), but I’m so into their aesthetic and the artistic side of the songs and lyrics. Anyone who says they are overrated is lying - maybe some people hype them for other reasons, but the thought put into everything they produce warrants all praise they get imo. Could be the artist in me speaking xD
I didn't even THINK of that!! When you end on scale degree 7 in both major and minor, it sounds "unfinished" because your ear wants to get to tonic (one note up). I thought it was their way of musically saying "keep going, this isn't the end for you." (And like- the shadow will probably come back, because this sort of thing isn't a one-and-done fight). God I love BTS so much; this is genuis
The fact that the entire meaning was implemented in the instrumentals alone is outstanding, something I couldn't decipher purely because I have no knowledge of music. This video really outlines and pinpoints the details within the music that opened my eyes to how amazing the production really is.

Watching people who ACTUALLY KNOW about music praising BTS's work makes me feel so proud of them. Just like Yoongi said 'You'll like BTS music if you listen without prejudice.' and if you don't like this one, you'll find other one that will suit your taste cause like they said 'The genre is BTS'. Not just the music, the message that they try to deliver from their lyrics are relatable to every gender, race, social background and any age group which will make you realize how diverse ARMY (BTS's fanbase) are. @@MiaAshley93 he was in another Reactothek video 5 to 6 months ago and it was revealed in that video that he transitioned so he goes by him/his pronouns now.😊
@@sweetmimosamommysaranghae3163 no its still Yunyi, only his pronouns changed, that's all, but if you still want to confirm, you can still see in the intro of this video when Umu is giving the introduction to the song, every member's name who is reacting in this video is shown below them, and Yunyi's name is definitely being shown as Yunyi (with special guest being written below her name). It's between 2:02 - 2:04. Hopefully that helped😊💜
That fermata? That bridge? That dance break -(that made me think the time signature or bpm changed)- ? I so wanna hear more about what I didn't manage to catch.
"it's relatable to anyone who is in the realm of performing arts" I FELT this, I dance (and studied film and did some intro coursework in theater) and this was amazing to me on so many levels. This was definitely a multilayered art piece.
😭 the reaction that BLACK SWAN art film deserves. The first time I watched pretty much as soon as the strings started up I was thinking “yes! This. Is. It. Yes!!!”. I was immediately completely on board with it. I felt so sad when so many fans were saying to reactors who were reacting to this art film “there’s the album version which is way different, like trap, and cool” seemingly without appreciating the beauty of this piece as a whole. Yes! To the point about it all being a perfect marriage. And Yes! To the comparison to Bolero. And also to the point about their voices being melded kind of matches the quality of strings. Wait... what was Tchaikovsky saying?
YESSsss I WAS WAITING FOR THIS BECAUSE I LOVE THE ART FILM VERSION OF BLACK SWAN BETTER THAN THE OTHER VERSION!! it's my preference & i think it's because i'm also a musician so i really appreciate the instrumentation more in the art film. still like the other version though! edit: WHAT IF THEY USE THE ORCHESTRAL VERSION OF BLACK SWAN AT MAMA OR MMAS
I missed Yunyi!!! I hope he's doing well, it was so good seeing him and hearing what he had to say once more!! But it was also great to hear what everyone else had to say too, especially Owen, I think he was particularly eloquent 👌
@@dummydami thank you for telling me!! The last I knew was that Yunyi was using they/them pronouns so that's why I stuck to that, but I'll make sure to use he/him from now on :)
To write the lyrics, to create this song, Namjoon watched "Black Swan" movie for a couple times, alone in his room, tho he already watched it before. And...he cried a lot. He said he didn't understand why he cried, maybe because he's getting older or so. He cried as well when writing "We are Bulletproof: the Eternal" since it's about their past, how they had to face the hardships. But, the album itself is about revealing their past, pain and shadow for being BTS members. I was amazed by this Black Swan MV version and love the song so much. Thank you for making a reaction video about this song.
That's it, that's the video I needed about the Art Film of Black Swan. I love to hear the musicians guesses and opinions about the songs, and I was very curious about how would go with this one and it's perfect
If and when you react to ON, please bring up that they collaborated with the Blue Devils Drum Corps, since it's a huge deal for the band and corps community, as well as traditional musicianship in general.
"this is something that affects every artist and genre" so true it hit me so much when I first heard it and I loved that they used cello so heavily cuz I can actually pick it apart
This is the video that introduced me to BTS. I watched your reaction over a year and a half ago and kept thinking during this that "oh this is different what they're doing, you better pay attention...this kind of music, this kind of art, is important." So thank you, this was a beautiful introduction to BTS's music, artistry, and depth. Since then, their music and message have helped me so much. I hope you are all doing well.
I love how when the swan falls or gets hurt the shadows quickly rush to him and cover him, swallow him. And you can't see anything but the shadows. And when he tries to stand independently the shadows grab him fast and pull him back. Back into the dark almost wanting him to be weak for them to take over. And at the end he tries to fly and be free from his insecurities I guess but they prevent him and keep him down from doing what he wants. Maybe I'm just dumb and over thinking
I pounded the table at 11:04-11:48, yes yes yes. Precisely the journey of self discovery and embracing your dark tortured self to become complete interrupted through dance and music. BTS Black Swan is a masterpiece in my opinion. You all are great. Loving the content.
As someone who is an army, student of Jungian psychology and an art enthusiast who would easily marry a personification of classical music, this whole album, also known as a masterpiece, was a totally divine and monarchical feast for me.
Elizabeth and Owen's explanation gave me goosebumps. Seriously. I keep replaying their part. They didn't just focus on technicalities but rather more on what they felt and observed in the film. It's really different when you have knowledge about certain things because you understand it in a whole different perspective, and you can elaborate it for other people to understand it the way you do. Or maybe it's the way they explained it that I totally understand what they're talking about and what the video is all about. Because when I first watched it, yeah it kinda gave me an idea and I felt what it wanted me to feel. However, I couldn't pin point that exact word to describe it. I understood but I couldn't explain. And I love how Elizabeth and Owen connect everything in the video. From music to choreography to the movie Black Swan. It all make sense now. Thank you! PS. I miss Yunyi and Kevin together and their arguments hahah So glad they are back!
I love how even though I didn't fully understand some of the points they were making, it started a debate at the end. It made me view the song differently and now I'm actually interested to learn more about the techniques they used.
Black swan is one of the reasons why BTS is really a unique and special group. I really love black swan, I can say that, I never heard such a masterpiece before, and for me, black swan version orchestra is a superior song of all time
You're absolutely right about this song connecting to people in all areas of the arts; I'm a jeweller and this song means so much to me it made me cry when I first heard it! Love your insight into the music as always guys
I literally just did a music theory assignment where we analyzed a song of our choice and of course I did black swan orchestra version and after doing the assignment then watching this video made me kinda proud of myself that what I had said was similar to what these professionals are saying :)
Out of ALL the UA-cam reactions (and I mean it),,,out of ALL...you guys are THE most genuine and pay the MOST attention to the music and meanings. You also pay so much respect to the artists’ work. As an Army and fellow musician, thank you so much.💜
at 5:38 when the lady with the purple sweater said that the "strings are all kind of doing their own thing, but staying rhythmically together" it reminded me of their concept and how there are different parts of ourselves like the Shadow, Persona and more how they are different but the same.
I've been waiting for this reaction. As a vocalist and violin player I was blown away by this version. I prefer it more then the official version cause this one seems more in the moment and more extenstial
I feel like this song does not only speak to people who do performing arts, but also arts in general like painters or writers and not only them but people with a passion for something too like people who are into sports or something that moves them beyond understanding. When you loose inspiration or passion for something that has been part of not only your life but also your soul and personality you die a little inside and that's very painful. This song is so universally beautiful and painful at the same time.
BTS is the first group I've seen who can pull off hip hop and classical music!! I think this song is not just relatable to artists but all people with a passion. If I remember correctly, JungKook had said sth like rather die than live without passion. I feel that, living without passion is not really living.
Please I kept coming to your videos about bts because there's so much in their music. Not just the vocals but the melody too. So hearing these from musicians just fascinates me.
Even visual artists can relate. The colors created by this for me as a fine, digital & artisanal artist were absolutely incredible, inspiring & emotive. I wanted to literally invade my own studio & drown it in feathers.
The way Owen just sat down and digested the video so beautifully and accurately made me cry??? When he described his theory/interpretation i couldn’t hold back the tears with how impressed i was. It’s just beautiful to see how the arts can speak such volumes and work in such a harmony while also sometimes purposefully not trying to be harmonic to get a point across. It’s something anyone and everyone can feel an impact from, it’s just about whether a person wants to give it a chance and let it speak to them. So glad they reacted to Black Swan, i was anticipating this since it came out.
Jesus, I really love how classical musicians analyzing the story by listening to the rhythm, atmosphere, and instruments and just create an exact theory of the story by listening... Trained musical listeners rocks🤘
I love when non-army artists talk deeply about BTS's concept because I am an artist myself. I love when they really get the message of the MUSIC not the LYRICS. I don't think many people will understand what i am trying to say but it is really beautiful to see people connecting through their music with deep messages.
the more I watched reaction video to BTS from so many people around the world, makes me wonder.. how can they still have time to act cute and crackheaded while they are actually do something affecting so much people around the world positively.
I'm watching this again bcs as someone who analyses everything in their music, it really confirms my thoughts, so here's timestamps of my favorite reactions adn thoughts that resonates with the band 4:43 BTS were just walking through the industry without a plan in their debut days other than making genuine music and express their talents, so you can count it as "improvising". Especially when the fame is already hitting them(Fame has consequences) i love how everyone was listening attentively,😭 6:16 black swan was released even before the pandemic, hell I think black swan was already in the making in 2017 during their wings era. I think the change comes from the pressure on them on being the biggest boy band in our generation and how bcs they're constantly making new content with talents. Even if it comes naturally, it's still be out burning 7:40 bro, yes! Every member always helps the process of each album
Phew! Thank goodness for this promo. I already spent some $$$$$ and was freaking out thinking I had been scammed. Thank you. Cant wait to see the goodies. I bought a lot 😁💜

Please do “On” I would love LOVE their opinion
Un Known yes please❤️
That fermata? That bridge? That dance break -(that made me think the time signature or bpm changed)- ? I so wanna hear more about what I didn't manage to catch.
Yasshhhh trueee me too
And the dialogue film of On!!!! PLEASEEEEEEEEEE
Yes
YUNYI. *YUNYI !!* The way Kevin turned to Yunyi immediately after the video ended, almost like "yes, go off."
Me, a music theory muggle: Oh yes, the syncopation. *nods in agreement* I concur.
the way they recognised what instruments were being played just by ear ..... musicians are so cool
_"Tchaikovsky was gay by the way i'M jUsT sAyiNg-"_
Love how it just cut out after that
but did she lie 👁️👃👁️
I didn't understand that part, what did he mean by that?
"it's relatable to anyone who is in the realm of performing arts"
I FELT this, I dance (and studied film and did some intro coursework in theater) and this was amazing to me on so many levels.
Cant wait for your reaction on new mv of bts "ON"
YESSsss I WAS WAITING FOR THIS BECAUSE I LOVE THE ART FILM VERSION OF BLACK SWAN BETTER THAN THE OTHER VERSION!! it's my preference & i think it's because i'm also a musician so i really appreciate the instrumentation more in the art film. still like the other version though!
edit: WHAT IF THEY USE THE ORCHESTRAL VERSION OF BLACK SWAN AT MAMA OR MMAS
I’m so mad it’s not on the album like how am I supposed to listen to it on repeat. I just don’t understand
@@rainbowgirl949494 SAME what do i do when i wanna bop to classical black swan on repeat?
I also like this version more.
I'm not a musician but I love classical music, so BTS + classic is a big win for me. Too bad BH didn't include this version in the album n Spotify :-(
did you ever listened to mixed version of both? i think it can be founded somewhere on yt. together they sound perfect!
11:37 that guy is a genius. He was spot on.
I missed Yunyi!!! I hope he's doing well, it was so good seeing him and hearing what he had to say once more!! But it was also great to hear what everyone else had to say too, especially Owen, I think he was particularly eloquent 👌
yunyi uses he/him pronouns 💜
@@dummydami thank you for telling me!! The last I knew was that Yunyi was using they/them pronouns so that's why I stuck to that, but I'll make sure to use he/him from now on :)
@@jamie-p7e no problem! thank you for editing your comment 😊
@@dummydami of course! I didn't want to misgender him after being corrected 💜
Henry is forever iconic
agree lol
BTS making everyone appreciate art, of all forms. They have really expanded my capacity, appreciation and love of art. It's just incredible.
Flashback to Yunyi and Kevin bickering about Lie being Minor or Major. Love this.
Which video is 10:05 from? I can't find it
That's it, that's the video I needed about the Art Film of Black Swan.
Seb Bat Yes they need to know! It’s a huge deal for me too, since my teacher was a member of the Blue Devils and I want to play with them one day
"this is something that affects every artist and genre" so true it hit me so much when I first heard it and I loved that they used cello so heavily cuz I can actually pick it apart
This is a 2yr old reaction by musicians. Watching this again reminds me how much BTS invest into their music. Their music is relatable & timeless.
The choreographer is Polish-American
This is the video that introduced me to BTS. I watched your reaction over a year and a half ago and kept thinking during this that "oh this is different what they're doing, you better pay attention...this kind of music, this kind of art, is important." So thank you, this was a beautiful introduction to BTS's music, artistry, and depth. Since then, their music and message have helped me so much. I hope you are all doing well.
BTS is the first group I've seen who can do hip hop and classical music wow!
I missed Yunyi and Kevin together reacting !!!
OMG YUNYI IS HERE
I MISSED HIM
I love how when the swan falls or gets hurt the shadows quickly rush to him and cover him, swallow him.
No, Nam Joon said something similar as well. You can check out BTS reaction to the Art Film.
I pounded the table at 11:04-11:48, yes yes yes. Precisely the journey of self discovery and embracing your dark tortured self to become complete interrupted through dance and music. BTS Black Swan is a masterpiece in my opinion. You all are great. Loving the content.
Black swan is actually one of bts' top tier songs so yall reaction are real big mood 😂
they being so focused on the video made me smile a lot
Will you also be showing them “ON”? They recorded it with an actual marching band
THAT DUDE WITH THE BANGER SYPNOSIS OF MOTS......PLEASE JOIN THE ARMY THEORIST, WE NEED A SOLDIER LIKE YOU
I have so much appreciation for musicians. Y'all see the world in a whole 'nother level/realm.
as a musician, this was an absolute masterpiece. such a shame that it isn't in the actual album
I love how even though I didn't fully understand some of the points they were making, it started a debate at the end. It made me view the song differently and now I'm actually interested to learn more about the techniques they used.
Black swan is one of the reasons why BTS is really a unique and special group. I really love black swan, I can say that, I never heard such a masterpiece before, and for me, black swan version orchestra is a superior song of all time
WAIT HOLD UP I NEED TO PAUSE ITAEWON CLASS FOR THIS
TASTE but I have to sleep first😂
woah your TASTE
yoongiverse PLS I was watching it too 😭😭😭
Is it good?
a&e&r&o SO GOOD pls watch it !!!
Them: Speaks in music
Me: do your thang do your thang with me now... 🙂
You're absolutely right about this song connecting to people in all areas of the arts; I'm a jeweller and this song means so much to me it made me cry when I first heard it! Love your insight into the music as always guys
I got goosebumps hearing their insights. Like I never thought that there's more into it in a musician's perspective.
I come back here every year because it’s so beautiful to watch you guys speak about music, especially this specific art film.
I really hope more armys could watch your reactions because bts' is one of a kind. Their discography is just so amazing.
I literally just did a music theory assignment where we analyzed a song of our choice and of course I did black swan orchestra version and after doing the assignment then watching this video made me kinda proud of myself that what I had said was similar to what these professionals are saying :)
You know this performance was far beyond being good when musicians stop talking and are completely focused on the film. Bravo!!!
YUNYI !! OMG I HOPE HE’S DOING WELL AND EVERYTHING 💕
Out of ALL the UA-cam reactions (and I mean it),,,out of ALL...you guys are THE most genuine and pay the MOST attention to the music and meanings. You also pay so much respect to the artists’ work. As an Army and fellow musician, thank you so much.💜
OHMYGOD YUNYI IS IN THIS
at 5:38 when the lady with the purple sweater said that the "strings are all kind of doing their own thing, but staying rhythmically together" it reminded me of their concept and how there are different parts of ourselves like the Shadow, Persona and more how they are different but the same.
I've been waiting since you guys reacted first. I'm sooo happy that you've updated now. Thank you 4 sharing.
I've been waiting for this reaction. As a vocalist and violin player I was blown away by this version. I prefer it more then the official version cause this one seems more in the moment and more extenstial
me in JK's voice: (inhales) *FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYY!*
I love listening to them arguing about stuff I understand nothing off lol
😂😂😂😂😂 Ikr. I'm like "Yeah you're right" even when I don't understand anything
This is the best reaction ever because they see what normal people like me didn't see
Please I kept coming to your videos about bts because there's so much in their music.
Thank you!
THIS WAS THE ONLY REACTION I WAS WAITING FOR THANK SO MUCH 😭❤️
Jesus, I really love how classical musicians analyzing the story by listening to the rhythm, atmosphere, and instruments and just create an exact theory of the story by listening... Trained musical listeners rocks🤘
9:03 Now I know how my girlfriend feels when I talk fantasy football draft stats and strategy with my league mates. Lol
I NEED this version on spotify! It is so beautifully haunting. I could lose myself in this song.
Thank you so much for adding the definitions of the musical terminology. It helps me follow along and understand more of what the reactors are saying.
I love when non-army artists talk deeply about BTS's concept because I am an artist myself. I love when they really get the message of the MUSIC not the LYRICS. I don't think many people will understand what i am trying to say but it is really beautiful to see people connecting through their music with deep messages.
5:07 will forever be one of my favorite musical interpretations
I loved the review. I wish they would have seen the video with the lyrics/captions too. Seriously it's such an amazing song lyrically.
Yunyi!! I’m so happy to see him in your videos again!
AwakeningSunshine him? she’s female tho
I LUV FRIES no he’s not. He’s a trans man
AwakeningSunshine you mean lesbian/bisexual not trans man cause i can still sense her being female because of her actions
I LUV FRIES it’s clearly stated in this video ua-cam.com/video/wIjugbzzdu8/v-deo.html that he is a trans man
Finally you guys reacted to BTS again, its been a while..hope to see you guys react to their new song "ON"
I literally paused when I saw Yunyi! I missed Yunyi so much!
the more I watched reaction video to BTS from so many people around the world, makes me wonder..
how can they still have time to act cute and crackheaded while they are actually do something affecting so much people around the world positively.
I just love it when this channel does the reaction because they actually know how to explain the musicality of the songs💕💕
I'm watching this again bcs as someone who analyses everything in their music, it really confirms my thoughts, so here's timestamps of my favorite reactions adn thoughts that resonates with the band
4:43 BTS were just walking through the industry without a plan in their debut days other than making genuine music and express their talents, so you can count it as "improvising". Especially when the fame is already hitting them(Fame has consequences)
i love how everyone was listening attentively,😭
6:16 black swan was released even before the pandemic, hell I think black swan was already in the making in 2017 during their wings era. I think the change comes from the pressure on them on being the biggest boy band in our generation and how bcs they're constantly making new content with talents. Even if it comes naturally, it's still be out burning
7:40 bro, yes! Every member always helps the process of each album
I didn't watch the film and i was so confused but thank to them i understand it now
I like when they just nodded with acceptance.
OMG YUNYI AND KEVIN PAIR 😭💖😭😭😭
The Black Swan (Art Film) is so powerful, it always makes me want to cry everytime I watch it.
Phew! Thank goodness for this promo. I already spent some $$$$$ and was freaking out thinking I had been scammed. Thank you. Cant wait to see the goodies. I bought a lot 😁💜
that Owen smart guy summed p what I was thinking when watching black swan the first time.
10:01 LOVE the throwback
That guy was so spot on with that theory that it made me cry, I’m so amazed.
