    Delayed Expansion. One of the best quality of Silver Amalgam. Patient still show their 15 year old Silver Amalgam filling and ask to do one. When I have to tell them that because of mercury, it has been phased out of market after Chennai Declaration...

      Are you no longer allowed to place amalgams? Where are you located?

    Doctor rich how placing an amalgam directly without a liner or base won't develop sensitivity???

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental

      Hi Hama, back in the '90's I used dycal in deep preps followed with a coat of Copal Varnish. Then I switched to Amalgabond (made by Parkell). Lately I don't use anything under amalgam fillings and patients haven't reported an increase in sensitivity. That being said, my patient base is older and they tend to have less sensitive teeth. I have quite a few patients who don't want me to use anesthetic for placing fillings or crowns.

      @@VeryNiceSmileDental im literally blown the fuck away 😂 how on earth do you have a steady clientele of amalgams . in 2022 . i understand they're old folks . but wow . also question . do you happen to know why they stopped using amalgabond?

      @@tekktori I don't place many amalgam fillings, maybe one every couple of months. I don't use amalgabond anymore because if I'm going to bond in a filling, I'll place a composite resin filling. Amalgambond worked but it added a bunch of extra steps to the filling process and it was a mess to clean up, it stuck to everything. You had to place a film of copal varnish on the matrix band or the Amalgabond would bond the amalgam to the matrix band. Thanks for watching.

      If residual dentinal thickness is 2 mn Or more no need to apply base

    This is why a lot of new dentists of today (and "younger") dentists don't go the amalgam route. In fact, you'll only find amalgam at universities dental program, overseas, volunteer programs such as medical missions and good ol government dental aid who don't want to spend money on composite because amalgam is cheaper. You still have to do this during your board exams. However, most graduates and practitioners don't do amalgam due to how long it takes to wait and cure amalgam to set vs composite. From a business efficiency perspective, composite offers a faster turn around. But resistance and strength and longevity - amalgam will always prevail. There are still lots of folks in their 60s and 70s who still have decent intact amalgam fillings placed since the 80s and 90s. Amalgam should have stayed as a standard...

      Hi, amalgam is much quicker to place than composite. I think the main reason amalgam isn't as popular is due to it's appearance. Another reason is the mercury content of the amalgam scares some people.

    Sir,what is your opinion about rct by using k files in reciprocating hand pieces.

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  7 місяців тому

      Hi, I usually use k files by hand. I know some colleagues who will use them in the reciprocating handpiece. I have used the Safesider system in the past which used reamers in a reciprocating handpiece. From what I remember the reamers started at a size 15.
      I typically use k files by hand up to a size 15, then use rotary endo files. I'm currently using X7 files by Edge Endo.

      I also have pain in 3 back molars he said xrays show nothing. Except amalgam fillings. Can't decay be behind amalgam? Thanks for your time...

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  Рік тому

      Did the old filling come out too? That's one reason I don't like leaving old fillings, you don't know how stable they are, the other reason is I like to make sure there is no decay under them. Hopefully just the temporary cement holding the temporary crown came loose and the temporary crown just needs to be recemented.

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental

      The pin helps to hold the amalgam filling in place. Pins were usually used when a cusp was missing. Thank you very much for watching.
