As the owner of “la Tour” I feel this video is the most factual. You did your homework, which is a lot more than most
of the video creators have done. I appreciate you found an image of Senator Brown who built our house and dreamed up a magical and novel way for his family to get to the beach. As the caretaker of this icon of Laguna Beach, I am proud to have been
watching over it and overseeing its periodic restorations. The salty ocean air is punishing to both stone and metal. I trust future owners will prevent the Pacific from claiming our beloved Tower.
Thank you so much for reaching out. You've done amazing work. Thank you for letting all of us have a chance to marvel at this wonderful, unique and iconic place. We hope to make another visit soon. :)
You own the Tudor style house at the top?
@@dugroz Yes. He stated he is the owner of “La Tour,” which is that house beside the pirate tower. He is a very talented person, a renowned restorer of fine antique clocks under Armentrout Antiques.
This is better than most things on the History Channel.
+Practical Folks Thank you so much! We're constantly amazed by how you guys produce a bulk of videos in such a short amount of time that all look great. You're constantly providing content for fans and offering content for potential fans and it's encouraging!
Drew’s pirates voice is spot on
I've actually been there on my honeymoon. Husband grew up in the area and showed me this cool tower.
Fun series! I stumbled upon it by accident but I'm glad I did. Nicely done.
Great episode! I’m going back to watch some earlier episodes that I hadn’t seen before I subscribed. ❤️
Thank you so much for the continued support! Quite a bit has changed since these earlier episodes, but we're still so happy we had a chance to visit (& revisit!). :)
Harold Kendrick was related to my dad. I have great memories of being there and going down the stairs finding coins! First we had to get a very large shot of sharks blood ( fake syringe) a call on a special phone to get permission from the pirates ! We were under ten years old. I remember he had a frozen bowl of nickels in the freezer , he called it his cold cash!
We used to go down there in 1969 and trip on LSD all night. What a beautiful place
Max Stemple That’s cool! Did you see any crazy shit?
Excellent video!!!! You showed the scenery told us about it, instead of having to watch bloggers spend most of their video showing themselves talking and giggling!!! Thanks
I love the concept, the shot selections, the professionalism, and last but not least, the amount of research you put into finding actual facts! Good job guys...hope this show takes off completely!!!!!
+Kay Smiff Wow...that's such an amazing comment! Thank you for taking the time to watch and sharing your thoughts with us. We can't wait to show you what's coming up next and hope you enjoy :)
"If you don't see it, you've walked into the ocean." Classic
If you guys ever go up to Santa Cruz, do a video on the cement boat, SS Palo Alto...which, sadly, isn't what it used to be.
Boy, this brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you! I lived in Orange County for 13 years in the 80s and 90s and this was my favorite beach.
Had many happy memories of Laguna beach from the 40's and 50's! What ever happened to the "greeter?".
My favorite video of yours!!!!!
I’ve actually been here and it’s really hard to find, but a fun place to visit
And Laguna beach is awesome!!!!!
You all have the best explorations! Awesome video!
Thank u for this, I’ll be there in a couple weeks so glad you guys were detailing the streets and stair area to get there soooo helpful🤙🏾 Aaarrrgggh
Would've been a nice mention about the 1000 Steps Beach just 2mi down the coast. ;)
come back now you two,
my wife and i miss you both
Great vid I would love to check that out one day. Thanks for posting this vid
That is so cool!
I’ve watched this a half dozen times. It’s my favorite video of yours. Can we have another from Laguna beach ?
its super fascinating that so ca has a lot of these gothic/medieval look towers all over the place!
Writing a novel right now, and this ended up being one of the spots I am using as inspiration for it (it's a near-future science fantasy novel). This spot happens to play host to a meeting between a coven of 8 witches and the merfolk "water witch" coven that is struggling to coming to grips with negotiating with the "unified coven" and it turns into a splashy, magical battle as the main character runs away for her life! Point is, I'm glad I found this channel, because I love oddities and hope to use the other ones you've covered in your videos as inspiration for other locations in the novel!
That's awesome! Congrats on tackling the massive creative undertaking that is novel writing! You'll have to let us know when we can read it :)
Didn't know and I never heard of this tower. How about doing something on Dana Point, Richard Henry Dana, and/or his book, Two Years Before the Mast. Thanks and good video.
Fascinating
I’m glad I waited till the end, what an amazing view, great shot!
I'm pretty sure you weren't talking about the tower lol
Our family friends own a home at the top of the stairs. I've been here once in the 60s but I was never shown the tower. So cool. Thanks
I’m watching for probably the 5 time. I saw it when it first came out and it’s my personal favorite
Waiting for the new season!!!!
Love it! I'm obsessed with this channel.
+Blake Avila Thank you so much! And please stay tuned....we have a LOT more to show you.
This isn’t on any of the local beach maps and the locals like it that way. I moved here end of 2017 and still haven’t been. I’ll have to check it out one day. Cheers! 🌻✌🏼
these guys put out good simple cute interesting videos and yet you have people in here b&*ng and complaining about petty stupid s&*t..srs..get a freaking life.. Thanks for the video guys. Some of us appreciate it.
I really thought this was done well and liked the information and how it was presented!
+Janet Gasman Thank you!
so ready for more.. I see a Discovery channel series here.
+dave guerrero A brand new episode on Saturday the 13th! :)
This channel is very interesting. Keep up the good work.
I love this so much. Laguna is my favorite beach town, so many cute places to go to! I found out about this because Hemet High was advertising it, it took a while to find, but I finally did!
+Unironicdork Thanks for watching! :)
Looking forward to your next post. I really enjoy your adventures.
+Mike Mathers Thanks for watching! We hope you enjoy the episodes we'll show you next :)
You guys film so well and deserve a loooot more subs, definitely check out Sunken City in San Pedro if you haven't yet!! The story behind it is awesome
Thank you, Tim! And Sunken City is definitely on our list of future episodes. Great suggestion!
I really enjoyed your video!!!
I found it fun and informative!!!
We've been there but forgot how to find it!!!
Thanks
Tony
Thanks for watching, Tony :) Hope you get a chance to see it again soon!
I think the shoreline is worth a mention here, at 4:08 we can see the beach where it is now and 20 feet up the cliff face we can see where the shoreline used to be, so where did all that water that used to be there relocate to.
Good work, mateys!
+Amber Bamber Thank you so much for watching, mate!
You two do such a great job with these vlogs. I want to check this place out.
Thank you for watching! We hope you get the chance to check it out soon :) Although it might be a bit more crowded in these Summer months.
I’m pretty sure you don’t need a straight blade at Victoria. I live in the area and have never heard it called pirate tower.
Same here!
My family had a house on the next street up for 15 years. It looks like they changed the gate. You used to not be able to see inside at all. I never in all that time saw someone use it. There's a book on the history of the homes in the Victoria/Rockledge area, but I can't remember the name off hand.
Thanks for sharing! :) It looks like a beautiful area to live. We'll have to do some research to try to the find book.
It is great to hear the real story. I always thought it belonged to the Nelson's from Rick Nelson's family.
Fun to watch and informative! Where are we going next?????????
+BrillBlonde Thank you! On our next episode we'll be taking you with us to check out the Great Wall of LA! :)
Thanks for another good tip. I found time to go here on a 2 day trip to LA for work this week. Got some killer photos. I had hoped to get the tower at sunset, but high tide was coming in and I wasn't sure if I would get trapped. I did catch the beginning of golden hour, though. Also got to angel's flight and the last bookstore on this trip. Still looking for someone else who does these explorations as good as you do for other areas of the nation.
We're excited you got to see a few of these places. Hopefully in the next few years we can bring you some explorations from other parts of the country.
If you folks ever get to the Dallas/Ft Worth area, maybe I can offer some suggestions.
What's the legal knife blade length ( quillion to blade tip ) for personal carry while in public, in California? Missy😎 hehe
Blades have lenient laws in CA believe it or not. It’s possible you could be questioned by police why you are carrying such a large blade but if it’s a fixed blade like hers and it’s in a sheath clearly visible it’s totally legal. You can also carry any sized folding knife in your pocket or on a clip outside or inside your pocket. Just no switch blades so long as they are under 2 inches.
Practically in my own back yard and I didn't even know it.
Thanks from Egypt 🇪🇬
What’s a pirates favorite letter?
Rrrrrrr you think....
No!! Tiss the sea that they love!
Congrats on your new show! I hope it's a success. Although I did find it interesting I did almost turn it off. The beginning banter was just not my thing. The whole "dry humor vs guy trying to be funny but isn't" is old news. I did think you guys had plenty of chemistry on screen when you were not trying to "act out" a scene. I know it's difficult to find a niche when you are doing this on your own so keep working on it. You have a lot of heart (great foundation) for an amazing show! Good luck!
+Cyn Walling Thank you for watching! And we really appreciate your feedback :) We certainly hope to keep you as a viewer.
If the purpose of the pirate tower is to get from bottom to top and vice verse why is it closed?
Because it's private property and leads to the backyard of a residence. The owner probably still has access to tower since it appears that they stored a couple folding beach chairs at the bottom of the stairwell.
@@peterwonaprize no way!!! how cool would it be to have pirate tower???
I’m watching this episode for the 4th or 5th time. This is one of the nicest beaches in Laguna, and my favorite episode of yours!!!’
Great work!!!
A celebrity owns the place
Which celebrity?
love It..
You two are awesome :)
He admitted it. Bethany is smarter than him!!! I knew it. 😎🤓
Bette Midler lived there from 87 till 98, she invited me over.
Thank you for sharing! We did put a little info about Ms. Midler owning it on our website. That's so special and awesome that you got an invite :)
@@jonmacdonald5345 just found this comment. 😂
Have you guys considered having guest cameo's on the show??
+Ryan Naff Hi Ryan. We're definitely looking for some new things to try for season two. Our finale will feature an exclusive interview to give everyone a break from just the two of us :) Thanks for watching!
Bummer you couldn't get in. So I assume its privately owned and only the home owner has access?
Yes, it is privately owned.
@@chrischart2386 Looking at those stairs, you wouldn't want anyone in there. It's beyond unsafe. There's not much of anything holding those stairs in place.
Literally nobody calls it “the pirate tower” but some people call it the “Victoria Beach lighthouse”
Buuuutttt its not a l Iight house.
Steven Villa yeah, you’re totally right, but most of us who live here have no clue what it is so that’s our most common way of identifying it. Obviously the person talking in the video knows what it is more than most LB residents, I was just saying that’s how we call it for the most part~
@@emmalagoona4155
Hey Emma... you still on UA-cam? If you are then lemme ask is the man-made tidepool still there at Laguna Beach? And did anyone ever discover who built it? And when?
Thanks 😊
@@donarthiazi2443 hi :) the pool is still there! It isn’t well kept though and tends to be filled with sand more often than water unfortunately. If you want to see it with water come on a day that has really high tide. I’m not sure about who made the pool but it’s been around for a very long time, although I doubt it’s older than the 1880’s and I’d bet it was built a while after the city was founded in the 1920’s since the blocks haven’t eroded too much. The builder was likely just someone who formerly lived in one of the beachside houses just above the pool. Unfortunately though this is all just speculation and I’m not sure it’s 100% accurate.
@@donarthiazi2443 senator brown appears to have been the person who built the “light house” so he may have been the person to build the pool as well as they are close in proximity. The lighthouse was built in 1926 so if he also built the pool it would have been around that time period :)
That's in California that's where I'm moving to but not to that area just Santa Monica
How do you like Silicone Beach since moving there?
Interesting vid thanks... but why the knife?
she always carrys it, always
PCH is Highway 1 not Route 1, which is on the east coast
While U.S. Route 1 does run the length of the east coast, PCH, or Highway 1, or California 1 are other names for the route designated as California State Route 1. But, yes, you are correct. U.S. Route 1 is on the east coast.
This is my hometown
Alice Cooper brought me here
Moors Masonry build that
is there any way of getting into the tower??
We believe the only access is permission from the current owners of the house. From what we saw, it looks as though they have a way from their backyard. Thanks for watching :)
It appears the stairs are dangerous and crumbling.
i use to go there all the time ... thats where i met OJ simpson on the beach with his family than a month latter well you know what happen...
Wow. Were he and his ex-wife getting along when you saw them? That's wild. Please don't tell me he drove up in a Ford Bronco.
My dad was Nicoles h.s. teacher.
Locals Do NOT call it a pirate tower and we never have. Please respect the neighborhood and the beach when you come, I’m sick and tired of picking up your garbage, beer cans, dog poop, diapers, etc. off the reef the sand the bottom of the ocean and the yards of my neighbors. We love you just be respectful...and don’t fly your drones..they’re illegal in Laguna
Michael Roy you're a grouch..
I’m pissed..not a grouch. Unbelievable how entitled tourists feel that they don’t respect the neighborhood, beach, reef or marine life and how much damage they’ve done since videos and selfies made this beach popular..just sad. Please come but be aware that people live here, be adult and pick up after yourselves
Democrats always leave there trash behind it creates climate change I mean global warming.
Although I fully agree with you on the point of pack in pack out most of the people who view these are folk's I've seen personally picking up trash to keep it out of their photos. We don't drive hundreds of miles to empty out our trash bins.
And more often than not it's local teens who are jaded by having these sites in their neighborhood
And view it as just a hang out.
Why is it always the people who go out of their way to see something that get blamed for this nonsense?
@@GAVACHO5150 I think I did. Not trying to be confrontational but we really do catch all the crap and it's not cool.
Nobody calls it a pirate tower lmao, only really heard it called a lighthouse even tho i dont think it is
Who uses a paper map these days????? HAHA
many people still do.more reliable than your phone or gps battery.
@@mikieson
I have a Map Book I've kept in my Truck as a backup for the last 16 years and have never pulled it out. It is NOT more reliable than your phone or GPS. When they generally are is out of date with paper maps. You also have to be able to even read and understand one. A skill more and more people are losing.
Your phone or GPS is far more reliable, so long as you actually still use your brain. As in when it tells you to turn right, you don't right, right onto the train tracks, but right at the road just past those train tracks for example!!!
Cause maps are original
who uses paper maps when we have GPS lol
Hi George! I hate to say, I'm super old school and don't have GPS on my phone, lol. But looks like I'll give into modern day tech and get a new phone soon :) Thanks for watching! - Beth
Lol Nice channel. I just subscribed, keep those nice videos coming.
Thank you so much! We're currently filming season two so we'll see you again soon :)
There's something to be said for paper maps ...
I feel ripped off. You should say you never go inside.
Well, maybe they wanted to, but even if they had a key, the stairs were crumbling. It would be a death trap now.
Informative video but it's posts/videos like this that ruin places for the local residents and at times even ruins what the subject of the video is about.... ergghhh.....maybe try to keep that in mind....they're hidden gems for a reason.
Chenoa Turner they’re also public for a reason. Buy an island if you want privacy
@@frankreviews4U dumb response
@@frankreviews4U i actually agree..lol
Public beach is not a good place to hide anything.
I know this video was from 7 years ago and I thank you for the info but it was hard to watch. The two of you sound so monotone and awkward but make all these jokes that aren't funny with scenes and dialogue that sound staged. I couldn't watch another
