I took this train lot of times! The intercity brand in Italy has a very good value and it's very comfortable with the excellent "old" Frecciabianca coaches forniture... I think is way better then the Frecciabianca service with old Pendolinos. Great video, as usual ;)
The intro gave me some flashbacks about my first HS trip to Venice and Trieste. These cities, I plan to visit in the near future. Thank you for the nostalgia 😊
As always a very comprehensive 'trainalogue' (I've invented a new word!) covering access, toilets, catering, comfort, amenities, and the sights of our destination. It couldn't be bettered!
Great video as always and enjoyed watching trip report from Trieste to Venice and Venice is magnificent city, isn't it? Looking forward to visiting that beautiful city in the future.
Trieste looks like a stunning station. Some of the stations en route less so.. Nice to see an inter city loco hauled (or pushed) train rather than another EMU..
Thanks for the great report. The refurbished 2nd class seats look great but I get your point on the extra width of 1st class seats. I have never taken an intercity in Italy so was great to see what it was like - most of my train trips have been on freccias or regios. Trieste station is very stately - can see why it reminded you of Milano Cenrale. I have a soft spot for Venezia Santa Lucia though - the simplicity of the brutalist design appeals to me. Also....one of my favourite rail experiences is exiting Santa Lucia to the vista of the Grand Canal! That never gets old.....
Hi, Nice one again, have memories of several Rail escorted holidays in Italy and visited Venice several times. Love train travel in Italy, and its quite fast these days with HS trains. PUSB.
Great summary as usual! These are old coaches refurbished a couple fo years ago when the new livery was applied, replacing the ugly XMPR one. Intercity services are subsidized by each of the regions in Italy (such as Lombardy, Romagna, Toscana, etc) aiming to maintain connections for the smaller towns, usually left without service on Freccia's services. Special contracts are signed among the Region and Trenitalia for specific amounts of time and frequency.
Actually, Regions subsidize only Regionale and Regionale Veloce services while Intercity and Intercity Notte services are subsidized by the Government through a service contract signed between the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Economy on one side and Trenitalia on the other side. Apart from this, everything else is spot on, especially the fact that the XMPR livery was ugly! :)
Now you can say that InterCity is the third tear service in Italy, because Frecciabianca services stopped from 2021, except for the route from Palermo to Messina passing through Catania
Train was running at 149 km/h, great speed. Advanced trains with all the facilities onboard for passengers. Venice Taxi was also an enjoyable part of the video. Great.
I always enjoy your uploads! I thought the interior was excellent - I mistook it for 1st class! I've visited both Trieste (I was there around 5 years ago) and Venice! Both are lovely cities. Looking forward to your next upload! :-)
Yes, I appreciated your video. Learned much. Next year we are going to be taking a cruise that ends up in Triest. So we need to find out how to transfer into Venice, since we’ll be staying in Venice. Thank you for the information about how you have to switch trains to get into Venice thank you.
Every now and then I travelled on InterCity services and even in those at night. This particular service between Trieste and Rome was diverted sporadically up until last year as they were working on the line between Bologna and Prato. In some occasions, InterCity services can even have lower prices than regional trains, as there are some offers that can be found, unfortunately only applicable to Cartafreccia holders (which I happen to be)
Thank you for this excellent video. Do the cars have storage space for luggage like they do for bikes? And if yes, is there a symbol on the outside of the car to let you know that?
Hello, we just watched your video and we are a little confused when you got off the train in Venicia Mestre, how do we get to a regional train that goes to Venezia Santa Lucia? Also, can we use the same ticket (from Tríese to Mestre) to get to Santa Lucia? Thanks, Frank
Triest is natuurlijk een beetje raar overblijfsel van het Oostenrijkse keizerrijk...Hoe dan ook, een mooie trip Triest is of course a bit of a strange remnant of the Austrian Empire... Anyway, a nice trip
@@NonstopEurotripNice! By the way, on the 3rd of June, I will probably go for a trip at Rome, I will depart from Crotone with a Frecciargento. Its my first time on one of the Freccie! Is it cool?

Boy these are a world of difference from the miserable experience I had with friends on New Year's Day 1975 trying to take "The Rapido" from Rome to Milan and then later going on to a ski area called "Alpe de Mera" where there was hardly any snow except for one small slope. The Rapido was "inretardo" for over an hour forcing us to take an awful third class train to Milan which arrived much later and we didn't use the supplement Rapido tickets we had purchase one way North. On return my American friends weren't familiar with proper procedures for the Rapido which required us to have the return tickets stamped in the station and we still had the one way supplement fare tickets which the young conductor refused to accept insisting we buy more expensive SOUTH bound tickets which I adamently refused in my not very good Italian. Progressively higher Conductors arrived to argue with me in behalf of our small group. But I stood my ground despite demanding to see passports and taking down information. Finally after they left in a huff I suggested to the younger conductor that he come with me to the ticket office in the Rome station to reissue the tickets but he said he was leaving the train in Florence to which I replied in classic Italian "Well that's not MY PROBLEM"!! I can't recall if the return tickets were ever punched/ accepted. And at the Milan station we purchased a "Chustina delle Viago" excellent box lunch to take aboard. alpe
@@NonstopEurotrip Well, in my opinion, it's a short journey, but, it's scenic, even more with the journey to Venice's City Centre and its water channels which makes it different from any other city in the World, excepting some holiday's resorts. 2003 waren wir auch von Triest nach Venedig und zurück gefahren.
Toll ist, daß an in Venedig nur 5 Minuten bis zur Rialtobrücke läuft.
Didn't even know InterCity went on this route! 😅

Trieste looks like a stunning station. Some of the stations en route less so.. Nice to see an inter city loco hauled (or pushed) train rather than another EMU..
The views past Trieste were lacking, but were more than made up for with the views of the canal. Stunning!

Another great railway station in Trieste (Austrian territory when it was built, as Venice didn't become independent until 1866).
Very good video. Those loco-hauled trains are very nice.

That was a vaparetto, water buses in Venezia haha. I love travel on those. About the only true experience of real Venice
I miss seeing the old rail cars of my childhood in the '60s.

Love your trip reports! Any advice on how to get from Brussels to Rome?

From Roma to north italy all is extra lux : from train,s,station,s, city,s,economy, food, supercar s, style, moto ,

Nice! Q: does the HSL go to Trieste or did the Frecciarossa shown arriving there take the same line as your train beyond Venice...?
The Frecciarossa took the same line, there is no high-speed line from Trieste to Venice.
Come to Norway 🇳🇴 as well
Very informative

If you book to Santa Lucia then when you get off at Mestre, you can get on the next local train going there. There's like 8 an hour I believe.

Glad you think so!
I wonder when using First class Interrail, the reservation for IC is also 3 euro or more?
I think it's €10
Are there seat reservations on this train or does everyone sit wherever there is a free seat?
There are reservations but you can sit elsewhere if they're available
In Venice, you travelled on a water bus, not a taxi!
Now in Europe, italian high speed (they are 2,only in italy trains privat and public)they are the top in Europe,
I've always wondered, are you italian?

Apart from the views of Venice, not quite the most scenic of routes.
Covering 90 miles in 1 hr 47 min is not very fast by Italian high speed standards.
Nice presentation. However, my failing vision makes written narrative most difficult to follow. Why not oral commentary?
My audience prefer it, sorry!
