portprophecy Truth! That really touched my soul. I've got nothing against the M4 style rifles, AR15s etc but AK has a reputation in a way similar to Glocks, and that's dependability. Dependability, and the 300 yard coverage that 7.62x39 covers really drives home to me which rifle I'd rather have on my side of the foxhole.

I bought a C39 V2 but with wood furniture. I love it! I put the magpul stock, midwest industries quadrail, and a micro red dot on it. shoots fantastic! very accurate for an AK.
Just opining here... I think one of the reasons that Century included a bolt-hold-open safety is because some firing ranges require the bolts to be open (chamber exposed) prior to firearms on the line being declared safe and shooters allowed to walk down range. At my range, AK's that don't have that feature are required to have their bolts held open with a spent cartridge case or the like...so a built-in hold-open makes this easier. just my 2 cents. Another great video, hickok and John.
+Jeremy Conn At least with Romanian aks i heard of the probability to pull back the action, slightly let it forward and then blocking the slide with the hammer pulling the trigger. To release you pull back, therefore cocking the hammer and are good to go again. I Don't know if this works an all aks though.
You know what Mr. hickok45, you have been my decision maker when it comes to buying guns.. I have had mine for 6 years, put 3,500 rounds through it of steel case wolf and have had zero malfunctions. The gun has no damage and all the parts look pristine still! Century really out performed with this gun. Best purchase Ive made for long term!
Dear Mr H, this video is just another example of why you are the reason I purchased my first AK, a Century Arms WASR10 that I slapped on KVAR'S full furniture on then promptly sold it to fund an Arsenal 107SF, what a joy to shoot! Right after that I purchased an I.O. AKM which has become my favorite gun ever!!! Thank you for the enthusiasm in your inspirational videos!!!
AKs are supposed to run steel case ammo, not brass. 600 rounds isn't even a start. Most AKs should be able to run 3k round without an issue. Sell that POS and buy a WASR before it blows up in your face, and if you absolutely must keep it, pick up a field gauge.
@@kl3847 Show me one instance of one of these blowing up. Like, for real. I have asked so many people and not one has been able to find a single account of a C39V2 blowing up, and thousands have been sold around the country.
Hi Hickok, the trick to get the gas tube lever rotated without tools is to use the bolt carrier. The carrier has two slots at the back end which fit over the lever and the long BC gives you a lot of leverage to move the lever. Great vid, take care.

I bought the V1 when it first came out and I absolutely love it. I'm glad to see Century doing good on the the major complaints with the first gen rifles.
you really get the best of both worlds with the C39v2, a lower price high quality milled reciever but what sets it apart, to me, is it takes standard stamped akm (the most commonly available) furniture. I love that I can flip flop my keymod akm hand guard with my wasr10, even my draco pistol all takes the same furniture. it does not have a side scope mount but I can use the one midwest industries handguard that i bought to mount my red dot on any of my ak's when I get bored with iron sights, and as a bonus the threaded barrel is concentric from the factory, so suppressing an ak is now a little bit easier and not as big of a hassle.
From a purely aesthetic view, I thought the stock was very nicely fitted to the rear of the rifle. No gaps of bumps where it meets the receiver. I also think some of the polymer stock/furniture kits look a little cheesy, and that is due to poor fitment, alignment or proportion of furniture much of the time. This one seems nicely streamlined. I agree about the LHBHO on the safety. What's it for really? Looks like a thumb masher if one tried to use it as a bolt release. If it were up to me to tweak this nice looking rifle at all, I would address the top receiver cover, the sights, the safety with LRBHO, and put a regular slant hider on the muzzle. But most of all I wish MagPul would take a hint from the Yugo AK-47 mags that lock the bolt open on the last round. That product would surely be a winner with AK enthusiasts. Great video as always Hickok. Stumping for the sponsors is a drag, but you pull it off with pinashe'. And the old shooter's enthusiasm was well in evidence when you exclaimed, "Oh look, a propane bottle!" Lol. Those things are always a "blast" to shoot. Life is good.
This video came up as I was searching for how to get the dust cover back on. I literally got it back on right before Hickock told us how to do it. Luckily, I did it exactly the same. Never force anything you're not absolutely sure can be forced.
Been considering this model as my first AK. Now that you've given your seal of approval and shown this gorgeous model with Magpul furniture, I'm gonna HAVE to get one - - but with the folding stock :-)
I've owned a C39v2 with traditional wood furniture for a couple of years. I like it, particularly at the price I paid for it and 1k rounds of ammo for it back before the current tight market began.
There’s a lot of hate on the internet about this gun. This thing ROCKS!!! Whatever Century did in the past particularly the first version C39V they engineered this to really perfection. Dust cover is simple but you do have to do it a few times to get it right/use to it. Own it, Love it with wood furniture
I have the same gun expect my stock is slightly different and with all Magpul. Great AK-47. The best model I have shot out of 16. Recoil isn't bad at all and it's very accurate for a AK.
I’d suggest checking out MACs video with Rob Ski. They found some issue with these guns that can be potentially catastrophic. Both ran around 3k rounds through them. Failed Go / No-Go gauge....
Flambodeus Scones I played it safe and went with an Arsenal SAM7SF. Hasn’t done me wrong and shows typical wear and tear. Wish American manufacturers could get it right. Would be nice to snag a milled AK for 800-900 bucks.
Hickok, you can use the slot in the bolt carrier to flip the disassembly lever for the gas tube. There is also a slot in the cleaning kit tube specifically for that task, but that stock doesn't hold a cleaning kit. Thanks for the video.
I have the c39. tell john instead of judo chopping the dust cover on and breaking the tip of the rear recoil spring tab off :) to do this- get the dust cover in the groove up front (like u did in this video) but before doing so push the rear recoil spring tab foward through the dusk cover hole with your thumb. then lower the dust cover down and release your thumb on the recoil spring tab. nice and easy frustration free install every time.
I like your channel good sir, your a accurate shooter and very informative. I used to own this rifle except mine had the walnut stock and I blasted 1800 rounds of Tula and Wolf for the duration I owned the rifle. I was content with its accuracy and reliable function. In the end, I traded it for a Smith & Wesson 686-6 with a six inch barrel, I am happy with the trade.
I love these rifles for simplicity and reliability. I know these rifles like i know an AR-15. I love them both. I do have a preference, but I know my rifles. Great video Hickok.
I have a question. I have a Norinco SKS that shoots smooth, even with thousands of rounds through it. I just bought a C39V2 AK, and I was surprised at how the action feels more violent in the AK versus the SKS. I had assumed that since they both shoot the 7.62x39 round that both rifles would feel similar when shooting. Is this normal for most AK type rifles versus SKS rifles?
Just bought one like 30 minutes ago, it's absolutely fantastic feeling, really lightweight, which was suprising for an ak platform rifle (I'm used to wielding a yugo sks, so it's significantly lighter) I'm very excited to take her out in the woods.
hey bud great video. I love mine. The trick I use to get the cover back on is to push the button back as I bring the cover down. Then a firm smack and it latches. For the kick, Century milled the bolt with slots to make it lighter. The trigger is truely amazing.
Its nice to see the US AK market making decent weapons these days. However until imports are banned and unable be bought I will not waste one dime on a US made AK. Not when you can still get factory made Romanian, Polish, Serbian, Bulgarian etc. made AKs.
John Pifer Because I'm a purist and if it ain't broke don't fix it. Imports are made in actual AK factory, made by methods and with materials that have been time tested and battle proven. And because they will retain their resale values better. But mostly because they are the real thing not an American made copy. If you where gonna buy a Ferrari would you want the one made in Italy or a US made copy ? No reason for me to buy an American rifle until they finally do succeed in banning AK imports from every country.
John Pifer They are better. European made AKs are made in factory's that make military rifles using proper materials. US guns are made using the cheapest material that will work for the commercial market. The barrels on European made AKs are CHF and made to mil spec. Most US AK makers use cheap button rifled barrels made for commercial sales. Its not that you can't get as good of an AK here in the states. We have company's that do make them on par, but they cost twice as much as the same European made guns. No point to buy them just yet.
@Hickok45 I own this weapon and have found a very easy method for replacing the dust cover. I'm not sure how to put it into words but I can make you a quick video detailing my method if you'd like. I personally love how snug the dust cover fits. I find most akm's feel cheap because the dust cover rattles a bit.
I'll try and put it into text anyway. So, I just let the dust cover rest on the receiver and I push it forward until I feel the recoil spring start to take up tension, then without lifting up the rear end of the dust cover. I slightly lift the front edge of the dust cover and push it in to the groove taking up more tension on the recoil spring. After that you can simply push the back end of the cover down and it will seat, releasing the tension from the recoil spring. Very easy to do.
I just bought a new V2 and it is a well built AK. I'm pulling the walnut off and going with the Magpul Zhukov front with a rear folder. I bought it from a good shop and I looked it over inside and out for about 30 min. With the milled receiver you just don't see the barrels and stocks crooked to one side or the other plus you have less parts to go wrong. Not having the rivets is a big improvement.
mine has performed flawless. I hope people keep talking down about them keeps the price down.. im in the market to purchase another one for my collection.
Just purchased on of these magpul AKs today. Its had some mods mainly cosmetics..some rails and stuff and a different bolt and sights...i havent shot it yet. Kinda wish i had reasearched it first what with all the poor mouthing it...but, im not planning on abusing it or driving over it ...dragging it through sand and mud....so im fairly confident that it will take care of my needs...just a fun fast shooting plinker......
I love mine! The chevron muzzle break makes a huge difference in the recoil impulse. I switch mine to a more traditional slant style and quickly put the chevron back on lol.
I like it's looks like much better than the other older style I guess this is my favorite rifle and the most important it's AMERICAN made just love it thanks a million I am military veteran I love protective guns and ones again thank you
The Magpul stuff is nice but the wood that my C39V2 came with is so dang nice that I can't bare to change it. I just put the Magpul stuff on the WASR. I did put a Magpul grip on the C39V2 though.
I have one of the original C39s, and maybe it's just a peculiarity of my individual rifle, but the bolt will hold open on its own if you pull it back just right. Rifle is fine, doesn't need safety bolt hold-back.
My local range requires chambers open and visible when the line goes cold. They make exceptions for traditional AK owners, but it is nice to be able to comply quickly so they can do a quick visual and get us down range and back to a hot line. The safety bolt catch is a simple way to do that so you don't have to keep searching for a flag or other chamber safety devise.
Go one of these all magpuled out. Shoots smooth and accurate. Even when you collapse the magpul stock it do not jump in your hand the way my stamped ak does
Hey hickok you had trouble taking the gas tube tab off, if you pick up the bolt carrier group and look on the side at that little ledge that rides in the receiver, if you take that groove and put the lever ledge in t and push forward it will pop it open
If Hikock says it’s a good gun it’s a good gun . I believe him over everybody crying on the internet. Check your headspace regularly (like you should do on any AK) and you’ll be good

Brought mine home today, only with dark brown furniture instead of the Magpul stuff. Can't wait to try it out!
accurate like this with IRON sights.......Greg has always been one helluva shot! fantastic!
*Ahhh the sweet sounds of FREEDOM.*
*You are a blessing & a credit, to the firearms community sir. o____O*
hey bud great video.
Not when you can still get factory made Romanian, Polish, Serbian, Bulgarian etc. made AKs.
Why?
John Pifer
Because I'm a purist and if it ain't broke don't fix it.
+drtrolish It's fine if you want it just because it was made in Eastern Europe. But don't try to say it's better just because it was made over there.
John Pifer
They are better.
No point to buy them just yet.
ideamachineim
That sounds like it sucks.
Great ak , great vid hickok45! The ak racking sound makes my day too.
The C39 V2 and the Honda element are both fine pieces of engineering
Who says AK's are not accurate. I guess it depends who's behind the trigger. And the Expert is behind this one.
Not having the rivets is a big improvement.
damn straight I love my v2
That safety is actually really nice once it’s locked in throw meg in and slap safety down and it’s ready and I love mine
mine has performed flawless. I hope people keep talking down about them keeps the price down.. im in the market to purchase another one for my collection.
the magpul furniture is the best part about this rifle.
That 2 Liter target is hilarious.
You always put a smile on my face and know what your doing ,)) Love ya !
I think this will be my first ak, thank you mr hickok45
"i think ill start out with a little pot smoking...Yeah! Just to get the day started right." I LOVE IT HAHAHAH!
The spring backend is definitely cast. The seam is a dead giveaway
I love these reviews. so thorough, much info.
little tip hickok, there is a slot on the left side of the bolt that you can use to open the gas tube lever
haven't even watched it yet but THIS is definitely a video I've been waiting for!
awesome! the Magpul version no less
Cinder block, dry dusty and wonderful? Man that is great!
Yep, caught ya smokin that pot again, the Listerine smell gives you away! Nice shooting! :D
No side scope mount. I glad that they addressed that.
I just bought a c39v2 that had a side mount but it was about $50 more. Just letting you know if you wanted one with it
Great video Hickok 45. I always enjoy your test's.
Hickok you are awesome! Your opinion means a lot. Keep up the good work.
thanks for another quality video hickok
ive been happy with mine.
I love mine! The chevron muzzle break makes a huge difference in the recoil impulse. I switch mine to a more traditional slant style and quickly put the chevron back on lol.
I like it's looks like much better than the other older style I guess this is my favorite rifle and the most important it's AMERICAN made just love it thanks a million I am military veteran I love protective guns and ones again thank you
"I think I'll start out with a lil pot smoking... yeah... just to get the day started right." @ 0:40 I laughed by butt off. :)
The Magpul stuff is nice but the wood that my C39V2 came with is so dang nice that I can't bare to change it. I just put the Magpul stuff on the WASR. I did put a Magpul grip on the C39V2 though.
I haven’t shot my AK 47 C39 just yet But I can tell this thing sounds like a bomb!! Look at those big boy flames 🔥
In 2023 a pack.of yugo f
Mag followers with lrbho isnt my fav, BUT having a couoke around is really kinda handy!
I have a C39V2. I love this fun rifle!
Another high quality video, thank you sir
Go one of these all magpuled out. Shoots smooth and accurate. Even when you collapse the magpul stock it do not jump in your hand the way my stamped ak does
I just got mine today. Life s good
The muzzle flash on this is crazy
Great video hickok keep it up!
The left side of the carrier, the slot in the carrier that rides the upper rail can be used to help lift the gas tube lever.
if i did it was unintentional...just stated I bought one. you volunteered the info.thanks again...
Yet again Hickok, your review is taken into consideration when looking at a certain platform.
I have one of these and absolutely love it.
Been waiting for this review from you. Great stuff! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
hickok you can use the bolt carrier to open a stiff front pin, there is a slot cut in them you can use.
"A little pot smoking to get the day started right" lol!
That is indeed the way the get the day started
AK = reliable as hell Best and most used wapon on this planet R.I.P Kalashnikov
Hey hickok you had trouble taking the gas tube tab off, if you pick up the bolt carrier group and look on the side at that little ledge that rides in the receiver, if you take that groove and put the lever ledge in t and push forward it will pop it open
I love mine... they ROCK!
I just bought this exact firearm, impressed with everything so far, just curious to see how it shoot down range.
Great balls of fire and happy new year!!!
If Hikock says it’s a good gun it’s a good gun . I believe him over everybody crying on the internet. Check your headspace regularly (like you should do on any AK) and you’ll be good
