Century BFT47 "Core" Review

- The Century Arms BFT 47 is the best yet in their American Made AK lineup. It's excessively overbuilt and has held up well during my testing.

My advice to anyone who wants to get into AKs is to avoid AK groups on social media at all costs. You know the types. Once it has a spotty history, there can be no redemption for that company, that rifle, and you, by extension, for owning it. If you're needing help from a helpful AK community, you're usually going to find them at competitions. People that actually train and run their rifles are usually the ones that are most helpful. The social media snobs are usually just collectors wanting to show off their expensive builds online but never actually train with them. Great review!
I agree, I avoid forums devoted to anything I am interested in as a hobby, be it firearms, cameras, etc.
Most are just echo chambers for a handful of 'experts' that spend a ton of money on their gear.
I’ve noticed this as well.
multiple AK guntubers have said that CA has improved immensely and the AK community is still just spouting the same nonesense.
We've had a similar experience with ours. It's a SOLID rifle. Nothing to really grips about. Personally I don't like the aesthetic of the finish, but agree with you (since we obviously shoot in the same climate) that it holds up better than the prettier stuff.
Can’t wait to get mine!!!! Great review!
I love my Zastava, and I managed to score a small crate of 7.62x39...and about 700 bimetalic coated rounds to hold me over...hopefully the ammo comes back soon
I bought 1 of these in early February 2023. For an AK47, this thing has a pretty good trigger.
the bft47 is my new favorite rifle. build quality is top notch... only other ak varient that is well built and look amazing is the Chinese Norinco Mak-90. if anyone find a Mak-90; KEEP IT!
I do like your reviews dude, you're very straight-up. Century always made very pretty AKs, the RAS was beautiful to look at and you got certain things that modern American manufacturing gave you: It was straight (a problem even on $2K imports), they shot very well, again often more accurate than imports. That said they did not get the metallurgy right on the previous gen (RAS-47 and C39).
It seems to me that the VSKA (once they got the initial issues sorted) and the BFT are an answer to those. They look like good solid guns.
Thanks for the detailed review. Great help.
Little whopper junior hands had me wheezing 😂 Great review very detailed awesome work!
Awesome review! You really went through this thing very thoroughly. Looks like Century has a winner here. It's sure a great time to be looking at U.S. made AKs.
Sounds like a solid review.
I collect AK style rifles as a hobby and have never been interested in the Century Arms VSKA because of the looks alone. The BFT47 has the "look" and I snapped one up! It has become one of my very favorites just behind my Romy G kit.
Heck yeah, I've got a little AK collection going too,and was going to pick up another zastava but that BFT 47 veteran edition kept bothering me so I picked one up. My gut tells me since it's a limited run, and if the mechanics turn out to be solid, then they'll go up in price and hard to find. I picked up a couple of taurus curve 380 pistols 3 years ago for $172 ea. They've been since discontinued and bingo, the offers for them have been over $350 ea. I have a hunch that these will turn out to be great AKs.
What look, exactly
@@jconcord6580 classic AK look (IMHO)
@@bozo572 it's a weird hybrid between trying to look like an RPK, and trying to look like a T3.
Bought one off the rack at a local shop. 2k rds through it no problems. Not one single malfunction. Headspace is the same as the day I brought it home. Front sight was canted is my only gripe - easy fix. Trigger is nice. Hits steel at 300 yds all day.
I had one of the serial numbers in the early batch that was hit with a recall. As far as I know there wasn't anything wrong with mine and century sent it back. Past that it's shot fine other than the front sight windage being off. Has ran fine for me.
Good review. I hope Century Arms and other US companies are truly improving their AKs.
Had three of these, sold two off and all three were great rifles, Now for the bad part about them is if you "Torture Test" them like I did with the two I sold off. 1 I did not clean it and running 2000+/- like that it micro cracked the bolt. 2 I did the same test running the same amount of rounds through it but kept adding oil to it with the same outcome. I replaced the bolts in all three with surplus yugo bolts and have had no issues. The bolt carrier I found to be proprietary to the rifle.(AKM carrier will not fit in it) (Tried my WASR10 one) Surplus Muzzle devices fit on these too, I put a Hungarian Muzzle Brake on mine and also a Yugo grip. Quality wise I would recommend this rifle to anyone looking for a good shooter.
A “great rifle” when describing an ak shouldnt need a new bolt after 2k especially if you had two rifles with the same problem. Aks in 2024 should run atleast 10,000 without issue, without question.
In a perfect with perfect conditions yes, I have had Glocks fail, CZ’s fail, Smith and Wesson’s fail just to name a few. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and in my honest opinion for a “Budget AK” and the price point it still is a great rifle for someone getting into that platform. I am talking the occasional shooter that shoots a few times a year, not the full on 1000 or more rounds a few months.
Love my VSKA AK, shot it roughly 1000 rds. With no hiccups at all. I put a Texas Weapon Systems. Dog leg Gen.3 rail mount and put a 1.5 x 5 scope on it and attained 1 MOA.groups at 50 yds. GREAT for what I demand from it.
So I’ve got roughly 1600 I believe in mine my stock did come loose. Not a big deal. I need to replace that anyway however, the bolt carrier having those lightning cuts was some thing I’m not a big fan of. Additionally, mine is aggressively over gassed and throws spent casings like a tantrum. Accuracy was amazing though I think I’m getting roughly 2 MOa or some thing in the neighborhood. For someone who doesn’t know anything about aks and just wants to have one for range use it’s fine. Most people don’t even shoot that much.
Nice video, thank you! These are even under 700 in some places online - would be interesting to compare to PSA GF3. For the drill, it might be fun to add kneeling after side step for reloads
I got just about 10k rounds through mine very little maintenance no hiccups or jams head space is perfectly fine so idk whats to hate about it
Very informative, seems like a great way to get into an AK 4 sub $800
Good review I have that gun beside my bed and love it if your ever out in a boat and need a anchor it would make a good one I have a 375 Ruger elephant gun and the ak is one lbs heavier.
Great review... really...
Saw it way back and came back to check and... how has this held up?--- anything that stands out like early wear anywhere or anything?
How has the side- rail interfaced with whatever sidemount you put on it?
If youre ready for more century arms hate--- maybe consider a "Part 2" to this with a focus on the how things have held up.
Thanks
I found the threads of the Century Arms cleaning rod won't fit any of the original cleaning kit tools, luckily I had an old Yugoslavia rod.
Sounds like a great rifle
For the money would you go with Psa or century ??? it’s hard to go with a century with there hit and miss history in the ak market and in house build guns .I had a C308 it was “ok “but there ras47 and early Cetme builds left a bad taste in a lot of buyers .like you said your self they got some up hill battles ahead to earn respect from the market.
I have 539 rounds exactly in mine, fresh out the box it would jam like ever 10 but sfter around 80 rounds it stopped completely and hasn’t jammed once. I’ve only ran wolf steel case through it.
Love my BFT47, but for the life of me, can't get the cleaning rod out of it. The split tip won't fit thru the bayonet lug.
I don’t think your findings are unusual for other videos and personal experience with it. Seems like a brand new AK rifle and we know how long the old ones lasted, as in still going. Also the example I shot has an excellent trigger for any battle styled rifle. Even better than the LR308 I occasionally get to use.
I'm sure with Hornady ammo
You can achieve good groups.
2-3 inches at 100 isn't bad.
You will hit man sized targets at 300
Easy!
I got one of these and I can’t find a quad rail for it…..got ant suggestions??
I wish century arms make ak that use 90 degree gas/sight combo love that look
I was about to pick one up this Friday but a lot of people and forums are saying not to get this at all. They say it’s cast, a fake bulged trunion? And it really only 1mm thick when they claim 1.5? I’m getting mixed answers here and really feel like I should just save up and get something better
Those people have no idea what they’re talking about. They’re just parroting what other “experts” in their forums say.
Glad I didn’t delve into the AK community online before I bought my BFT47. Over 1000 rounds in and have never had a single malfunction. It eats any ammunition I feed it (when I can find it).
Bought one because it passed AKOU4774 Rob Ski's testing, and have been very impressed with it. Various magazines fit well and older parts fit. Currently using a older milled Yugoslavia receiver parts kit, bolt, bolt carrier, cleaning rod, recoil spring guide, pistol grip and Romanian laminate wood set, and yes the bolt is Guage checked. Wood set requires some fitting.
With the ras47, I think I'm opposed to this rifle. The gf3 is cheaper and I haven't heard of a carrier cracking.
Thank you for proving my point
Your point is bullshit dude. You are of course entitled to think how you want and discard the many people who have been screwed by them. They carry that badge of shame and one UA-cam review isn't going to change that. Your point is invalid.
Century Arms has decades of shit customer service and selling lemons to people. Including the RAS. You know that. They could have upped their game a long time ago, and are just now trying to do that.
I got burnt on 2 Romanians. They couldn't put kits together properly.
Not saying this doesn't look far better than the RAS, because it does. I am saying this is not a better option, and your one off sample is not good enough to warrant a purchase. Care to disclose your contract with century?
Time will tell, or someone can buy something and just not have to worry about it, and if it does break, have a company that stands behind it absolutely.
The same reason so many people buy Toyota after decades of crap from Ford and GM. Your point wouldn't hold up to scrutiny if this were in a court.
Love mine!!!!
Your review seems pretty solid giving this weapon a decent rating should I buy one?
He made the review for you to make the choice yourself
@@chucklarry4552 nobody asked you Chuck
Happy to see another reasonable review of the BFT-47. What’s crazy is that most of the big heads in the AK guntuber community agrees and the community still just parrots the same BS they always have.
The AK community can be one of the most toxic firearms communities
Where did you get your bayonet? I couldn't hear what you said with the background noise.
I believe it was Atlantic firearms
If Century would make a 5.45x39 version I would buy one
I’m definitely waiting for their 5.45 gun as well
"The people's ammunition." The people yearn for the AK!
I don't get why people shit on century so much? I own 6 and never had a single problem and I compulsively put 1k rounds on each firearm and each caliber yearly since I got out of the marines
Noticed my vska has a round pipe for a gas tube
Was your BFT part of the recall? Mine wasn’t and am wondering what that was about?
Mine was not
Mine was, the recall was vague about a reliability issue. They told me mine was fine and sent it back, was thinking maybe they'd send a replacement rifle but it was my original one.
my viska has a wobbly ass gas tube too
They had a recall off the bat
Yeah but zastava didn't but everyone was having problems with their receiver s being to soft
The cleaning rod is great but you need the buttplug in the stock with all the tools.
Century arms cleaning rod threads don't match original kit tools however.
@@kathyarmstrong649 lame.
Basically the cleaning rods are just for looks on the century.
It might be a really good rifle, but Century Arms deserves the reputation that they have after the RAS47 and C39V2.
With problems from all of Century's American made AKs, PSA or The AK Guy would probably be a better choice, wouldn't you say?
Nice review! Just picked up a blem GF3 however this review would have swayed me towards century’s newest AK offering.
I’ve yet to see a detailed explanation of why people hate the BFT 47. It’s always “It’s just bad bro trust me bro”
That’s the AK “community” for you. It’s always “this guy on AK files said” or “I saw on Reddit”.
@@OreGearyep
Yep
That's because those people do not check things out for themselves and listen to what any a-hole says because they like getting on the bandwagon that bashes century arms. Those aholes help keep the price down so I can buy more than 2.
Reddit, specifically r/ak47 are just video game playing 🐑 that follow the crowd. I wouldn't take in too much stock on most of their feedback 🤣
Facts! 😂 Just an echo chamber of jackasses
What Mags Are You Running?
A little of everything
I'm very pleased with the magazine fit in my BFT47. Croatia, Bulgaria, and some unknowns all fit nicely without extra slop or wiggle.
Is this Model similar to The T.R. Version?
They must be doing something right, for them to be putting there name on a Century AK.
Curious how they shoot, They honestly look good in person, no complaints TBH.
It definitely has some similarities
Is there a light mount for the Bft47??
What kind of light mount do you want? There are a ton of options for mounting lights to AKs
@@OreGear I just want one that fit the bft47 I can’t find any. One that’s around the the or close to the gas tube
You can get a Midwest barrel clamp or you can get an RS Regulate barrel clamp
@@OreGear perfect!! Thanks
Checked the rifling at 1000 rounds but no update on the 8000+ rounds??? Wtf lol
What?
@@OreGear you stated you checked the headspace around 1000 rounds “thank you“ but you mention you had “ 5 ops sorry 8k rounds “ through it at 19:08 and it would have been nice to see a headspace update. I might have missed it?
Over “A” thousand rounds. Not 8,000
I thought that looked like ARPC
Feeling the pressure from those firearm law changes yet? Once your rights are lost they're gone forever. At least that's been my eperience living in CA the last 13 years.
The judiciary seldom restores rights as dictated by the bill of rights (activist judges) and the state has unlimited funding to support their agenda(s).
My family and I are moving to our new 40 acre homestead property in the midwest next month. Can't hardly wait! No more draconian bs to deal with; bad policy, high taxes, illogical law, high cost of living, etc.
The real question is: When are you moving? It's only downhill from here. The entire west coast has been compromised as far as the 2A is concerned.
I’m going to avoid moving as long as possible, but we’ll see what the future holds.
I've lived in Oregon two years and I already can't wait to move. My first choice in 2020 was Idaho....that didn't work out at the time, but hopefully once I get my CDL (saving up for it) and start putting in applications over there, someone will hire me. Hopefully.
ya the rear sight makes your ammo a Neclear round 800 at full nuke. Just kidding.
Is it just a W.A.S.R.? It looks like a W.A.S.R. IDK what a BFT-47. A W.A.S.R.-10 is ok from what I understand. So long as it has the triangle stamped into it.
Is is not a WASR. This is made in the US.
@@OreGear It's made by Century Arms yes? Century arms also makes the W.A.S.R 10...
Nope. They sure don’t. They import the WASR from Romania
@@OreGear Wow! Didn't know that. Glad I didn't buy one. I hear they're decent. Don't know first hand. My friend had one he said it shot decent.
There's plenty of Ammo, it just cost $$$$
Let's face it they have 2 rebuild there rep😂(century)

I love how all these UA-cam gun wannabe experts watch each others videos and regurgitate things they hear each other saying. I can’t believe Crntury sent this guy a rifle to test.
I love all these edgelord wannabes that think they know more than someone that’s actually put rounds through something. Can’t believe they think anyone would take them seriously.
You saying: This a good C.I.A. AK.
Me hearing: This rifle rusted when I coughed on it and then raped my wife.

Hard pass on anything built by century.
Unless is an import like the mighty WASR10 😊
@@joquin4618 WASR Aks suck ass too

@@OreGear thank CIA for releasing so much garbage over the years that people like myself will NEVER trust their builds 🤷🏻♂️, they’ve earned their reputation.
1,000 whole rounds? My goodness 😮 that must have been quite the workout! Good job!
If you can’t do at least a 5,000 round test, the projected 10% of an ak lifespan in a stamped receiver then please keep your opinions to yourself. This is a horrible way to review this platform. This rifle could explode at 2,000 rounds, or at 6,000. It has no track record. Nothing except Centuries prior builds that have blown up consistently. You are literally sending people to harms way. You could have openly stated your round count with the title but you have chosen to obscure that. Shilling has become quite a sport around here. 😂
Feel free to send me more ammo for testing
