It has been 100 years since the outbreak of WW1 - and most people tend to think of the conflict's European battlefields. But one of the first and crucial battles took place in Africa when allied forces invaded the German colony of Togoland in August 1914. The BBC's Akwasi Sarpong travelled to Togo to uncover one of the lesser known stories of the war and its impact on the West African nation.

What is it that he accomplished that was so spectacular in short amount of time? Invading a bunch of countries or killing a bunch of people? Because I can think of a few others who also did things similar. Not sure I would call that great though. Genghis Khan also took over a large land mass. Took him longer, but of course he only had horses and arrows, so there that. You could make a similar case for Alexander the Great. Might of took longer but he didnt have the same technology. As far as killing people Stalin did as good as Hitler. He also beat Hitler. As far as military strategies go having enough food and clothing to make sure your army can eat and not freeze is kind a basic. So in that regard Hitler was pretty fucking teriible. And as far as Douche bags go you are a fucking bag pipes made out of them. Hail my dick +kevin ratay
A war that plunged those countries into eternal suffernage (The neocolonism) and division of their countries and its people .How could mankind be so cruel on earth on the eyes of God of Abraham? 😔
@@miiana22 A lot of stuff is left out of history books, & that's unacceptable. I'm sorry your grandfather had to suffer such an indignity & crime against humanity. It takes so damnably long to change peoples' mindset, generations. Greeks v. Turks, Japanese v. Koreans, Hutu v. Tutsi, China v. Japan, India v. They were the first to chalk victory in the war in west Africa by capturing Hohoe, the Germans refused to surrender to them because there was no British officers amongst the attacking force
The people of Togo land would be proud of the American hero that bears its name! Togo was an awesome Siberian husky that braved the barren tundra at 60 below in 50 mph wind to save the children of nome from a diphtheria epidemic....he was an underdog too....if you want to see him today he is at the Iditarod trail museum in willow Alaska....even now if you look into his glass eyes with an open mind you can see the heart of a survivor!
Please we need more information about our History of Togo 🇹🇬🙏🏿and thank you for sharing this 🙏🏿✊🏿

Great Documentary On the Togoland Nations.
The ironic part is they speak french. If axis won the war, there could actually be African that speak Finnish and Japanese, that would be so cool.
The fact that you find this cool is just simply messed up
