This is genuinely one of the very best shoe reviews I've ever seen on UA-cam - perfect analysis as usual. So often I watch a review from other channels and think "ok, but i wish you had mentioned this/that" - you always cover what I feel I need to know across the board. Thank you!
Man, no one has done such a rational and elucidative explanation about the difference between these two shoes. The problem is that I was thinking about which one should I buy. Now I'm sure I'll have to buy both! 😆
I really like your analysis in the last few minutes of this video, i.e., about how one can only increase stride length so much, and how this relates to intended use, e.g. marathons vs. 5 ks... Thanks for the excellent review
I’m glad it’s helpful. I’m not sure if ASICS would necessarily endorse my analysis (I didn’t run it by them for confirmation), but I am not the only person who likes to distinguish the shoes by pace
In my opinion, if you look at professional runners, the shorter distance runners tend to be stronger and have a larger stride length. While, marathon runners are more efficient, so they often have a higher cadence. So personally I don't think I agree with Kofuzi, but to each his own. Thought this might offer some other perspective.
I think they messed up with making both shoes look the same. At least give them a different colorway so that people know which athletes uses which shoe. Am I wrong in thinking that that would be a better approach?
I think it’s good for branding. You know what you’re wearing, other people will recognize bunch of Metaspeed *something* and still need to do something like buy both from Running Warehouse and return one of them.
I’m adding to the chorus of commenters saying this is the most clear and comprehensive analysis I’ve encountered of these sibling shoes. But I agree with you, Ko, that in the end the only way to really determine which--if either-works for you is to try them on and run in them just as you suggest. I extend that to apply to all shoes. Let’s hear it for local brick&mortar running stores! As mentioned in the LS today, I asked Milestone Running in San Diego to order the Edge+ for me (any store that carries ASICS should be able to special order from their rep) and it turns out they’re carrying the Sky+ and have already rec’d them. I’m excited to run in both with as open a mind as possible. I also agree that any single element such as drop is not enough to go on, as I’m sure the individual variables of each model work in tandem-drop, stack height, CP placement and roll geometry. Then there are our individual traits which factor in: height, weight, leg length and body proportions, running mechanics (gait) and more. Martha
I really hope that ASICS can find a way to work with retailers on the Edge Plus. I think that not as many people will choose the Edge Plus, but I think it could be really helpful even for Sky Plus runners to be able to try both
I just ordered the edge earlier today - before watching this video. I’m an older runner, so I appreciate your comments. I’ve been running in the nimbus for a couple years, but wanted to try something new. Based on what you said, I anticipate I’ll need to keep wearing something like the nimbus for my easy runs, but I’m looking forward to giving the edge a try. Thank!
Thank you Ko for taking the time to really breakdown both shoes since I don’t envision too many running specialty running stores carrying both( at least not in Houston or New Orleans). You have given runners a starting point what to choose first since both have distinct mannerism. I’m definitely sending my friends and athletes this video if they have questions about these super shoes. Keep up the great work 🤜🏾🤛🏻
Exactly and it would be hard pressed to see someone spending that kind of money(online) without trying it on but at least we have Running shoe maven like yourself that can be a great reference for those who have to go that route to get a pair
My favorite independent running store has ordered both in 2 sizes for me to try when I’m in SD next week. They can be special ordered from the rep from any store that Carrie’s ASICS and has a good relationship with them. But do it soon!
This is an Excellent video! Far too many reviewers focus just on the Sky so it's really refreshing to see a good comparison like this! I have the v1 Sky however after watching this I think this time round I'll be buying the edge+
Yea I said the same...I've been hearing that the v1 Sky is just about the same as the edge+...Maybe they have the same amount of midsole but I mostly find that hard to believe due to the placement of the Carbon Fiber plate. Your thoughts?
@@TheBsheep Personally I'm leaning towards the Edge+ more this time as I believe I'm more of a cadence runner instead of a Stride runner. I don't know how much of Asics PR I believe but having had the v1 Sky although I enjoyed the odd run I did in it I never really felt like I got the best from the shoe and I didn't enjoy running in it as much as I did the Nike Alphafly for example. I am hoping that the higher stack and the position of the plate in the Edge+ will give me a better experience this time round, well I really hope so considering it's £225 price tag 😖
@@paulmulks Yea I'm in the same boat as you. I have the original Metasky and I'm 100% sure that I'm more of a cadence runner, plus my Garmin data clearly states that as well. So, I feel like I'm not getting the maximum results from the shoe, so I'm curious on trying the Edge+ too. Even though I may have to sell my house to buy a pair lol.....good luck!
@@TheBsheep I've just sold my Sky's on ebay so I'm halfway there to be able to buy the Edge+ lol Well good running, hope they work for the pair of us 🤣
Thank you Kofuzi!! I seen the Sky's on running warehouse and really wanted to get a pair to review and hopefully use in my next Marathon. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos.
This is the single best Metaspeed + review out there. Incredible. And I still have no idea which of these I should buy. I really like the Alphafly Next % and the Sky sounds closer to it. But I’m also 205 and figure I need the extra cushion.
Thanks for making these two types of running easy to understand. Being 6ft. would favor the stride method for me but I'm experimenting with cadence. I think it will be more stable and protect me from injury. We'll see...
Ye that must be correct. I think that stride runners are more prone to injury because of higher impact forces on a long stride. Repeating shorter stride faster may hurt your muscles, but not break your bones :)
Spend your money you think it’s best for what you intend to do. You get what you pay for. Enjoy it. We can’t bring our wealth with us when we kick the bucket someday.
Thank you, finally someone was able to explain the difference between the edge and the sky. very nice and helpful video, let's hoe the shoes this time around don't run out of stock immediately, making it impossible to go to a shop and test them. it is crazy that the metaspeed edge became available only this year right after the announcement of the new model coming out soon
Ever since they both came out 99% of reviews have been about the Sky. The Edge is pretty much the forgotten one which leads me to think that many runners out there got the Sky when they 'd be better off with the Edge......
Thanks for this, Mike. It's a good analysis of the difference between the two shoes. I've never run in the Edge, but have run in the Sky and love it, so I'll stick with that!
Taller dude that I am @ 6’2 I do tend to increase my stride before my cadence catches up like you mentioned when speeding up. I really like the MetaSpeed Sky cuz of more foam(I’m 190-192lbs). I land and push off on the lateral aspects of my forefoot so less of a rocker and more foam helps a bunch for me.
I am a taller dude too (6’4”), and my stride also increases as my speed in increases, but I’m not very heavy (170). For me, though, the squishiness of the foam in the Sky is not what I’m looking for in a super shoe. The plate geometry in the Edge makes the shoe a bit firmer, especially in the forefoot, which is usually better for my metatarsal issues. I currently run in the Endorphin Pro, which is not much different than the Edge.
@@paddywiggle yeah we all like our own midsole setup haha. I tend to do well with responsive foams like ZoomX FF blast Nitro(Puma) and PWRRUN PB(I have the speeds not the pro) but I do like some “squish” and rebound feeling. Also I’m 38y/o with many years of construction/roofing and hooping…I like cushion haha
Very confusing Asics 😕 as much as I love Asics I didn't understand these two models and why so similar ... Your content is so useful for a Beginner runner. 💚 from London J.
They look similar. They feel quite different. If you’re not sure, it’s best to go to a running store that stocks both models. But most people will prefer the Metaspeed Sky
like Asics, but they confused the world with these 2 options, unless we can afford both. In the end as a marathoner i'd opt for higher stack option I think. Appreciate your comment on the rocker (I don't need it either).
You are on track with why the plate is closer to the foot with the Sky. A stride runner is typically more flexible and that means the foot is more mobile too. Stride runners likely appreciate a stable platform. Often too much foam allows our feet to collapse into the midsole like an old waterbed. Where as cadence runners have less range of motion (shorter stride) and their feet don't deform as much in really soft foam. Stride vs Cadence isn't just a running style, it's defined by a physiological difference in a runners mobility.
@@TheJandrade86 It depends on the foot... Stability comes in many forms and flexible feet need stability closer to the foot where it's needed most. Much like Brooks' Guiderails or On's Speedboards.
Bit of an assumption here that the mobility of your foot dictates if you’re a stride or cadence runner. Which if you look at the make up of most racing shoes with high stack and a lot of bounce, with low stability. And majority of high level runners maximising distance per stride - your assumption doesn’t really fit. Take into account the higher ground reaction forces for stride runners compared to cadence runners. The preference to style of running is more likely driven by their tendon morphology and their ability to be reactive off the ground.
Quality comparison as always 👏 IF, they do my size, which seeing as the US sites only go up to 13 so not holding out much hope… it’ll be the sky+ for me
Hi mate Currently run all my runs in the speed 3, i have my first marathon in 11 days. Will Buying a super shoe really make much difference to my time Cheers
I agree that rocker geometry can be nicer at slow(er) paces rather than quicker. It can take some effort to hit the shoe's geometry and enlist the rocker's potential each step. I am looking at our friend the ZoomX Invincible - it's a lot of work to get that one rolling through the rocker naturally for some, maybe a la the Edge+ here?
Excellent review thanks❤ The graph at 4:00 super helpful. Is that from Asics or your own creation? Interesting striders don't appear to get up above 180spm. As my stride at 3:35ks only reaches 1.38m but 204spm this tells me I must be a cadence guy looking for an Edge😁
Hey Idol we still don't have hear in The Philippines.. But the V1 I have already, and I will use that on June 19,2022 for the first time ever after the pandemic. Asics Marathon Rock and Roll Manila I'm a little bit excited I chose 10k only wish me luck.
Edge+ for "cadence" runners - my translation is runners who have long ground contact time, low vertical oscillation, and long leg extension behind the hips. These runners have limited benefit from a normal rocker, since they already toe-off from a propulsive forefoot position. Most elites extend well behind the hips and have low vertical oscillation. Sky+ for "stride" runners - runners who have short ground contact time and higher vertical oscillation. Placement of the foam just in front of the forefoot, which should enhance the propulsive feel for earlier launchers.
I frequently wish that Asics would have just said, hey, we made two kinds of race shoes for two kinds of preferences. The cadence and stride distinction continues to be a difficult concept to understand
Ko, awesome and thanks for the best comparison of the two Asics racing shoes! The use case example you mentioned was compelling because at marathon paces Sky+ and shorter races the Edge+. Tho for me as a midfoot striker, maybe edge+? I feel like the Sky v1 is best when I'm more on my forefoot (toes) and I think I may have aggravated my Achilles and calf in the process while racing a HM. I read a higher drop shoe could reduce the irritation. Thoughts?
I’m a cadence runner so should prefer the Edge. Could never find the Edge last year and haven’t really liked the Sky v1 even though I found it for a fantastic price last year. Hoping I can pick up the Edge+ this year.
Hey KO ask your asics peeps why there is no size 14 or higher for the Meta's. Kinda disappointing that ur larger foot people will never get to try them.
Hey man, thanks for taking the time for this video, it’s the first I’ve seen that goes into any real detail between the two. Which one would you say is the more stable at marathon pace for someone with a mid foot strike? From how I’ve interpreted it, it would be the edge? Any feedback appreciated man
Long answer: these shoes don’t necessarily diverge depending on race distance or runner speed. It’s more a matter of preferences. People who prefer more of a rocketed racing shoe with a bit more stability and firmness with quick turnover tend to choose the Edge Plus. People who prefer a bouncier ride with longer strides tend to choose the Sky Plus. I prefer the Sky Plus and have raced in it in distances as short at 5k and as long as the marathon and PRd in both distances. Short answer: probably, but you should try them both on if you can.
Hey, I am a really tall Runner (197cm). Therefore I‘m having a Long stride. So should I get the Sky because of my Stride? ( I also have the Vaporfly 3 and I don‘t like it because I just feel Like I‘m sinking in the Foam, the Vaporfly 2 was really good) Thanks for your answer!
Great video…as always. Great approach by Asics with Stride vs Cadence runners. Would these be applicable to forefoot/midfoot vs heel strikers as well? Like - Sky+/Stride/Forefoot-Midfoot VS Edge+/Cadence/Heel? Or both shoes just cater to forefoot/midfoot strikers?🤔🤔🤔
@@kofuzi would love to know why it's incorrect. at some point, most regular runners' form breaks down and would probably “heel-strike”… would one shoe (Sky vs Edge) offer an advantage over the other? just curious.✌🏻
In your previous Metaspeed Sky+/Edge+, ASICS mentioned that some tools would be available for runners to input some data points to help determine their running style. Do you have any updates on those? I am very interested in seeing which shoe they suggest best fits me.
Im using superblast for long runs and daily runs, what would you suggest id get for half marathon? Im looking at the edge plus more. But not really sure if im cadence or stride runner🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for the in depth explanation. Except 1) I can’t use any super shoe on treadmill, too wobbly! Haha 2) I can try either because they don’t make size 14. And 3) I know you compared the Edge to Streakfly and that Adidas shoe, but wouldn’t you also compare it to be closer to the Endorphin Pro? Which is my preference and my Garmin graph (Thanks excel) definitely says I’m a cadence runner. Not to mention I need stability and the E-Pro gives that to me for the longest distances compared to Nike.
I generally think a person doesn't need a super shoe on a treadmill, but not all super shoes are wobbly - the Metaspeed Edge Plus is an example that comes to mind
I do really appriciate the video, especially breaking down where and how each shoe is 'best used'. As a sprinter I find it hard to research various running flats and finding ones that are suitable when realistically I don't run in them a majority of the time nor do they expereince very high intensity efforts. Would you have any insight for that perspective?
My recommendation would be to find a shoe reviewer who runs distances, weekly mileage, and or intensities that are similar to you. I typically run marathons, so my preferences may not make sense for a sprinter
Great marketing ploy. I got both of the originals. Still prefer the RC Elite original. At 33km on the Sky I thought I had stood on something like gum. Like there was a lump under my forefoot of the Sky on one foot but nothing there when I finished and checked at 35km.. Now afraid to use it in my marathon so sticking with the RC.
Ko, wgo!? In your vid from the Metaspeed launch in Spain there was some brief chatter about the ASICS website gathering cadence/stride data from one’s running watch to help determine what Metaspeed shoe is the right choice. Has there been any update on this?
@@bunnieg6294 It appears to be a tool where you manually enter a few data points...it's not linked directly to your watch. It's on the Asics Japanese site.
My understanding is that they are working on some sort of calculator to be released at launch. I haven’t heard any updates one way or the other. In theory, you could easily collect the data yourself, so long as you have a device that records cadence or stride length. Then you could run a diagnostic test, like running at gradually faster speeds for one minute at a time. The only thing I wouldn’t know how to do is interpret the data. Like, what slope ranges correspond to stride versus cadence? I have no idea
Which one would you choose for running a 70.3 triathlon? I personally think that when you start running with legs trashed because of the bike leg of the race, shoes that help your cadence are better, because increasing stride length requires a bigger muscular effort. What do you think about it?
I think you're overthinking it. I haven't done a 70.3, but when I did olympic distance, I felt like what I wanted for the run was whichever shoe was fast with an emphasis on comfort. so depending on which will be more comfortable/soft for you, that's the one I would pick
Hi 😀👍. From what I saw I believe the sky is the one for me. I'm since this year a sub 1:20 half-marathon runner. And I just started 2 weeks ago my prep for the marathon. I will try to do sub 2:55 (my PR is 2:56:42 Berlin 2019. Am I thinking right on my pick ? Cheers from Portugal 👍💪 EDIT : The use is only for competition.
Great review Kofuzi. I have been running with Vaporfy for a few years. I have issues on my toe nails after races, I find the vaporfly a great shoes but not very comfortable. I bought Novablast 3 and I am i love with it. I was thinking to buy the Metaspeed to replace the vaporly, im racing 10k, Halfs and preparing a marathon soon. I wonder if to get the edge or the sky. Could please help me to clarify what it will be the best option? thanks a lot :)
I think I bought the wrong version. I got the Edge, thinking that while my overall cadence isn’t that fast, that I increased it enough in races to be considered a cadence runner. Last month, I used them for a downhill marathon, and ended up with a bruised heel, like I’ve never experienced before (been running since the late eighties). I also have the Saucony Endorphin Pro’s, but wanted something that didn’t expose the carbon plate as the downhill marathon was on a gravel trail. For numbers, I rarely get my cadence above 166, but yet, I’m placing in every race I run. Do you think that the Sky Plus is a better option for me than the Edge Plus? I took them out again today for a 10 mile training run, and they just don’t seem any better than a decent pair of trainers.
I started running for a year now & I started with a bike vaporfly next %2 and it gave me the Achilles’ tendon it really ruined my leg& the specialist told me that I run on my outter foot & he told me I should get insoles. I didn’t I went to the psychotherapist & did some leg work & bought the tri noose 13 I’ve been running in it & it’s perfect but yet I get a little bit of pain. Now I want to get a marathon shoes & im a stride runner so I’m guessing the metaspeed sky + is the one? Thank you & kindly share your thoughts & experience.
Hi Thnk you for the review really good i m looking to buy a pair of asic but i m not sure which one is for me i run in a lot of nike next % My cadence is between 169-175 my stride is 0.99 - 1.10 max i never stride further than that i run 10km plus. I do both triathlon and running i prefer nike 4% over next% i also like to run on altra escalante 0 drop Looking forward to hear your thought thanks
From what I understood in your analysis regarding plate placement, the Sky is a little bit more stable coz the plate is farther from the ground and closer to the foot?
When the first version of these two shoes hit the local market my son suggested I look at my Strava data, comparing an easy run with a recent 5k. What that data suggested was that my stride length increased by more than my cadence. Both increased, but my stride length increased by slightly more. We then did that for a mp run. Interestingly, while increase was less on both measures, the percentage was almost identical. Having said that, my current HM program has a 5k TT at week 4 and week 8. I ran the first TT in my Saucony Endorphin Pro 2 and the second in my Nike Next%. I ran the first about 30sec quicker than the second. Part of this was to do with the conditions (it's now winter here in Australia and the wind was awful), partly to do with my son not running with me on the second one, but mostly, I think, to do with the shoes. I just don't think I run as fast over those shorter distances in the Next% compared the the Endorphin Pro 2, with the early stage rocker action. The real issue is actually getting access to the Asics shoes to compare them, they are just very thin on the ground here in Australia. Thanks for the video Kofuzi, you always make sense to us average runners.
Hi there. Living in Aussie here. Anyway, I just jumped into my first 5K race and break my PB and after, I am thinking about purchasing a pair of endorphin pro. Is it really comfy when hitting 5K?
@@nurulazhar8462I've run a lot in the Pro 2 and more recently the Pro 3. I think the Pro 2 is a little better over shorter races than the Pro 3, but the latter is probably fine as well, I ran a 6km race in them last month and they were fine.
What I don't understand about Asics's framing of this stride vs. cadence runner distinction is, if I'm a stride runner whose cadence doesn't increase much from easy to marathon pace (and if I'm looking for a marathon shoe), then why shouldn't I get the Edge because I need extra help increasing my cadence at marathon pace? It seems like in that case the Sky would cater to what is already my strength, while the Edge would be what I need to improve my weakness, where there is more room for improvement.
I think you're looking at these are gait trainers and not as racers. and ultimately, if you're a stride runner at marathon pace, you're just not going to find the Edge Plus to be comfortable
Well put. That's true. Super shoes are so expensive, and most of the miles I put into them come after I've retired them from racing and use them for certain training runs. I'll take your advice and look for a local store where I can try both shoes on a treadmill, since in the end it seems you just need to pick the shoe that feels right for you.
@kofuzi If I am a cadence runner, should I try to increase stride length or is that energy better used towards increasing cadence? Is there a threshold? Will shorter runners always be better with the cadence style over stride?
I have no idea if I'm a stride or cadence runner. I currently own a pair of metaspeed sky. My Cadence average is 174spm and my stride is 1.28m average.
That’s not enough data. ASICS at one point was developing an app or calculator that would help you figure it out. I’m guessing we’re not going to get that at this point.
how's the edge+ rocker design compared to hoka's carbon x? i have a pair of carbon x. love it a lot especially when i need to do long run. the rocker and the carbon plate made the run much easier and gave me very solid protection.
So looking at recent data points, I raced a 5K (7:40min/mile) and I averaged 171spm and 1.22m stride length, whereas on longer races of 10 miles and 13.1 miles (8:40mijn/mile) I averaged 166spm and 1.11 stride length. That's about a 3% difference in cadence and a 10% change in stride length. If the numbers are right, are you recommending the Meta speed Sky then? Thanks!
Without examining your numbers, I will point out what may be a problem with your assumptions. Everyone’s stride length will increase with speed. A stride runner’s length will increase proportionally more than a cadence runner. In other words, when charting pace over stride length, the m of the two different runners will be different.
Great comparison and review. Please tell me what size you chose? I never wore asics shoes. My shoes sizes: Nike EU 45,5; Saucony EU 46; Hoka EU 46; NewBalance EU 46,5. All in CM = 29,5. Please help me :)
Hey Kofuzi, great video as always! I was about to ask the same question regarding size. I tried Sky v1 at Sevilla and needed to go half a size up (if running a marathon) comparing to Nike and Adidas. Wondering if the last in Sky+ is the same as Sky V1.
@@pjmacgyver85 according to docs of running, ASICS fixed the sizing issue. Many runners who tried v1 ended up having to go up 0.5. This time it’s more true to size.
would you say the edge+ or sky+ is closer to the original sky in terms of feel and performance? i ask as i have pb'd in the original sky at 5k and 10k.
I look at the drop difference and I usually like higher drop to help my Achilles so I think Edge, but I wear an orthotic, and the Sky sounds more stable, so I’m just not sure
How would you compare the sky+ to the glideride 3 in terms of soft cushioning? I’m not a racing guy but like a lot of cushion. Typically just run 3 miles a day.
what if both the stride length and cadence increase proportionally for some runners? Will both shoes work for them? One more thing, from what I can see in this video it seems like there is no prominent outsole on the heel of the shoe so should someone whose shoe wears on outside of the heel buy these?
A1. That person is a cadence runner, as I understand it A2. It’s not that one will not work at all and the other will be magical. Rather, it’s more that a person will have a preference towards one over the other A3. Wear patterns from daily training shoes won’t be the same as with these shoes, as these are not meant to be worn every day

@@TheBsheep I've just sold my Sky's on ebay so I'm halfway there to be able to buy the Edge+ lol Well good running, hope they work for the pair of us 🤣
@@paulmulks Lol😂...I totally understand...you too and thanks!
I just started following uou and love your reviews. Thank you for your honesty and clarity
Old(er) clip but just as good! Even the official Asics product video about these two shoes wasn't as detail or clear. Thanks!
I continue to be intrigued by the edge+, this may be the video that pushes me to purchase it. My poor wallet 😢. Thanks mike.
They afe already out of stock hahah
@@TheJandrade86 they aren’t out yet…
@@scottjordan2403 they are, runningwarehouse had them on June 1st but runout that same day

Ever since they both came out 99% of reviews have been about the Sky. The Edge is pretty much the forgotten one which leads me to think that many runners out there got the Sky when they 'd be better off with the Edge......
People prefer more stack height
@@bigshotz1240 Very true.......
@@bigshotz1240 they both have 39mm in the heel though so it would be more about drop than overall stack.
Great intro so far!!! The music is 🔑
Great explanation and advice. Mine are coming today so I think I'm going to put one on each foot and do a little test to see which feels better.
Definitely stride style for me. I'm over 180 cadence even on recovery runs !!!!!
Great review and one of the best I've seen explaining the difference between the two. Well done !
Thanks for the clarifications: now I have a much clearer view on these two shoes!
Thanks for this, Mike. It's a good analysis of the difference between the two shoes. I've never run in the Edge, but have run in the Sky and love it, so I'll stick with that!
I think that’s a good plan
The opening music for this video is epic!!!

J.
I really wouldn’t recommend people need both. Just find the one that works for you
Been waiting for this review
You really helped me understand these two shoes, thanks!
thanks for watching!
Great information, but from what i am understanding here at the end of the day with this plate configuration the edge is supposed to be more stable
Best video I found on this comparison. Thanks.
Quality comparison as always 👏 IF, they do my size, which seeing as the US sites only go up to 13 so not holding out much hope… it’ll be the sky+ for me
Same, but Edge for me!
Great comparison video Mike, well explained👍
Clear and helpful (as usual). Thanks, Ko!
Hi mate Currently run all my runs in the speed 3, i have my first marathon in 11 days. Will
Buying a super shoe really make much difference to my time
Cheers
I’d say don’t buy anything for your race this close to your race
I agree that rocker geometry can be nicer at slow(er) paces rather than quicker. It can take some effort to hit the shoe's geometry and enlist the rocker's potential each step. I am looking at our friend the ZoomX Invincible - it's a lot of work to get that one rolling through the rocker naturally for some, maybe a la the Edge+ here?
I am waiting for the release of these shoes. I almost forgot they also have a edge. Maybe I try both shoes!
Excellent review thanks❤
The graph at 4:00 super helpful.
Thoughts?
That's the review I wished! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great analysis! Thank you for a detailed explanation.
Thanks for watching!
Love your analysis, thank you!
Hey man, thanks for taking the time for this video, it’s the first I’ve seen that goes into any real detail between the two. Which one would you say is the more stable at marathon pace for someone with a mid foot strike? From how I’ve interpreted it, it would be the edge? Any feedback appreciated man
I ordered the edge+. Coming from NB RC Elite 2 with essentially same stack and drop. Does edge have better/snap energy return than the elite 2? Thanks
which one would you recommend for superpronation. I am using Kayano 29
Great review and explanation.
Hi, great review. For my case, as an amateur runner of 3-5km, Edge+ might be a better choice for me in term of finishing speed?
Long answer: these shoes don’t necessarily diverge depending on race distance or runner speed. It’s more a matter of preferences. People who prefer more of a rocketed racing shoe with a bit more stability and firmness with quick turnover tend to choose the Edge Plus. People who prefer a bouncier ride with longer strides tend to choose the Sky Plus.
I prefer the Sky Plus and have raced in it in distances as short at 5k and as long as the marathon and PRd in both distances.
Short answer: probably, but you should try them both on if you can.
@@kofuzi thanks for sharing with me. I’ll go and try both. 🙏
Nice review. How about for triathletes? I am also looking into hoka rocket x 2.

Great breakdown, Mike!!
Thanks Matt!
You can do it all in either. It’s all just marketing. There are subtle differences which really don’t change much.
Doesnt matter on foot strike
I’ve specifically asked ASICS about it, and they say heel strike versus forefoot strike would be an oversimplified and incorrect way of looking at it.
@@kofuzi would love to know why it's incorrect. at some point, most regular runners' form breaks down and would probably “heel-strike”… would one shoe (Sky vs Edge) offer an advantage over the other? just curious.✌🏻
excellent reco between sky+ and edge+ !!!
In your previous Metaspeed Sky+/Edge+, ASICS mentioned that some tools would be available for runners to input some data points to help determine their running style. Do you have any updates on those? I am very interested in seeing which shoe they suggest best fits me.
I’ll be meeting up with some ASICS people this weekend. I will see what I can find out
@@kofuzi Thank you so much. I've been trying to use Garmin FIT tools to look at my data but an "official" tool would be great.
This video was helpful. Thank you!
That's fair, thanks for the response. It's difficult to find people looking at shoes for my distances. Have to basically rely on word of mouth
The kiddo in the background at 2:17 made me take off my headphones and wait silently for a good 30 seconds to make sure it wasn’t mine! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the great review!
Thanks for watching!
Ko, wgo!? In your vid from the Metaspeed launch in Spain there was some brief chatter about the ASICS website gathering cadence/stride data from one’s running watch to help determine what Metaspeed shoe is the right choice. Has there been any update on this?
There is something but not on the US website for some reason. My comments about it are not showing up though.
@@briannee9693 from what you’ve gathered, what watch brands are compatible with the site?
My foot has carbon fiber plate sensing technology and I agree with your hypothesis 🤓
Thanks for the validation!
Cheers from Portugal 👍💪
EDIT : The use is only for competition.
I notice you seem to land more on your forefoot. I am wondering if the more aggressive rocker in the Edge plus pushes it too far for slower paces?
Great observation...I thought the same.
Hello
Did you buy the metaspeed ?
I have the vaporfly and have the same problems
Go for the
Metaspeed sky amazing shoes and much more comfortable than vaporfly
I don't think I can answer whether you're a cadence runner versus a stride runner with just a max cadence number
Hello Kofuzi! Great comparison! Because of the position of the plate is one shoe softer than the other? How do you compare the softness?
On different subject, are you going to review the Nike Alphafly 2?? People are waiting for it.
waiting for a different color. I'll get there eventually
Good comparison. Which would you say is a more suitable shoe for runners with mild to moderate pronation ?
Good review!
could you use the sky plus as a cadence shoe also? as in it could be plusher forefoot ride?

Does the Rocker of any of the two Sky+ or Edge+ feels simmilar to the rocker of the Saucony endorphine Pro?
From what I understood in your analysis regarding plate placement, the Sky is a little bit more stable coz the plate is farther from the ground and closer to the foot?
nope. the opposite.
my apologies for not communicating more clearly.
@@kofuzi
Thanks.
So it is the Edge that’s just a bit more stable in this regard?
(Plate closer to the ground, farther from the foot)
I’m not certain there is a correlation between height and stride/cadence running
@@kofuzi I think hopefully I'm in the right ones, but its odd as they say stride or cadence but pinning down which one is hard.
how's the edge+ rocker design compared to hoka's carbon x? i have a pair of carbon x. love it a lot especially when i need to do long run. the rocker and the carbon plate made the run much easier and gave me very solid protection.
I have x3 and just ordered the edge+ looking forward to having more stack height and a bouncier foam
I know this is off topic, but are you gonna review adidas adios pro 3?
I’ll have to try and pick it up when it releases, just like I had to do for v1 and v2. Adidas chooses not to send me shoes for whatever reason
Great comparison and review. Please tell me what size you chose? I never wore asics shoes. My shoes sizes: Nike EU 45,5; Saucony EU 46; Hoka EU 46; NewBalance EU 46,5. All in CM = 29,5. Please help me :)
I chose the same size that I wear in all my running shoes. US Mens 9.
Will a carbon plate shoe help a 4:45 hr marathon runner, do I run fast enough to benefit from it ? Or is it a waste of money for me?
Yes you can get 30s faster per Km even at easy pace, but durability is the weakest point on supsershoes so make sure save it for the day
I already got the vaporfly and due to the edge beeing more like the vaporfly I´ma buy sky
would you say the edge+ or sky+ is closer to the original sky in terms of feel and performance? i ask as i have pb'd in the original sky at 5k and 10k.
I look at the drop difference and I usually like higher drop to help my Achilles so I think Edge, but I wear an orthotic, and the Sky sounds more stable, so I’m just not sure
@kofuzi I have bought the #Asics #Metaspeed #Edge+ absolutely love them.
Glad to hear it!
Which one is most similar to Nike Alphafly? 😬😬
How would you compare the sky+ to the glideride 3 in terms of soft cushioning? I’m not a racing guy but like a lot of cushion. Typically just run 3 miles a day.
The Sky + is a very different kind of soft. If you want soft cushioning, the Glideride 3 is the way to go with ASICS currently
what if both the stride length and cadence increase proportionally for some runners? Will both shoes work for them?
One more thing, from what I can see in this video it seems like there is no prominent outsole on the heel of the shoe so should someone whose shoe wears on outside of the heel buy these?
A1. That person is a cadence runner, as I understand it
A2. It’s not that one will not work at all and the other will be magical. Rather, it’s more that a person will have a preference towards one over the other
A3. Wear patterns from daily training shoes won’t be the same as with these shoes, as these are not meant to be worn every day
how do they feel in comparison to something like the way Enorphin Pro feels?
