After barn owls fledged 4 young from a nest box pigeons entered and attempted to breed. The whole event was streamed live in our UA-cam channel (Charter Group Birdcams ציפורים אונליין קבוצת צ'רטר).This is the third and last documentation of pigeons trying to entering and breeding in barn owl nest boxes in 2021. Even though the pigeons lost breeding attempts in the end they do not give an keep returning. Since pigeons can have multiples breedings per year, their method of not giving up seems to work.
All the birds in this video are WILD and chose to enter and could leave as they please. We set security cameras in bird nests that we stream live in our UA-cam channel “Charter Group Birdcams” in order to observe the birds in nature but not to interfere or intervene.

Owl: silent predator with sharp talons and hunters beak
Pigeon: S L A P
I love Wing Slap, it's the Pigeon's secret weapon. Most birds (and people) are taken in by pigeon's dainty feet, tiny beak and mild appearance, they are not expecting any kind of aggression from a pigeon, so The Slap has the element of surprise. Slaps are always done so fast, most opponent birds don't know what happened. Pigeons would do well in a boxing or fencing competition because they get in so many actual body hits, which is what is disconcerting the owls, the slaps dont hurt, but they do tend to make the opponents instinctively step back. It took the owls in this video series a while to develop a slap counter-strategy. BTW, there are videos of pigeons trying to take over a peregrine falcon on the nest too.
@@a24-45 you can also dab up pigeons

Pigeon: even though I know this is a known highway for dangerous predator birds it seems like the perfect place to start a family 🥰
This sounds like the start of every horror movie ever x)
And then pigeon decided to became a real predator here
Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer.
Geez, WTF with those pigeons? I've dealt with stubborn pigeons before, but this ridiculous!
A bird's equivalent to the hood.
My father breed and raced pigeons, and their tenacity and persistence is not to be underestimated.
I do wonder if they are deliberately choosing the owl nests. The biggest threats to pigeons eggs and babies are rats and snakes, both of which would probably think twice before approaching a nest that smells like an owl.
interesting , maybe you ,ay be right
That could be it
That makes sense, rather than deal with the constant fear of snakes and rodents it's better to be a little beaten up but secure a freshly vacated owl's nest where their clutches will have a better chance
Even that's stupid. Tho the owls didn't ate the pigeons but they will definitely eat the squabs/ baby Pigeons once the hatch .
@@user-if5ht6bh3t Barn owls don't eat birds, they eats rodents only.

Better story than Twilight for sure

I was enthralled by the trilogy. Truly epic. Be like the stupid yet tenacious pigeon and just never ever give up until you get what you want

Pigeon is just batting them away with its wings. Like the bird isn't bigger then you. They are some brave and stupid birds
They're actually really smart. I took care of one I found outside for a few months and I was amazed.
Stupidly brave
Pigeons are clever.
I'm surprised that pigeons themselves were not eaten. I though barn owls are more dangerous predators. Where I live owls kill crows on regular basis and will attack a human approaching the nest. And that are smaller owls species.
Barn owls are mostly rodents hunter. Some populations do eat other birds but likely not these shown in video, and then they mostly hunt much smaller preys. Pigeons might be too large and strong for them to prey upon.
I think pigeons are too big and not prey for Barn Owls..
Have you tried to pluck all the feathers of a chicken? I'd also rather just kick them out. Besides, owls prefer to eat their prey whole and regurgitate the bones and fur later in a ball.
The cramped quarters favored the smaler pigeons. Owls are aerial Ambush predators, not fighters.
With their nestlings there they could not risk injury from drawn out fights or too agressive fighting - deterent was the only viable option.
They had to put up some fight as the children were already there and under treath/stress, but they prefer not to fight there.
@@ximec.r.2643 Whose feathers you want to pluck down? Owl or pigeon?
Pidgeons are really 'invasive species'.
my thoughts exactly
Rats with wings. That's what they're called here in NYC.
I build houses and the pigeons always move in before ppl do lol
Almost as bad as humans
@ they do it for survival. Humans are much worse and that's why AI will eliminate all of us. Even the ROTHSCHILD's won't be safe.
The pigeons might be brave but, once the eggs hatch how r they going to protect the fletchings from the owls who would probably eat the baby birds lol
Exactly…. Easy meals
I think it depends on the season ; the owls will leave eventually
this is a deep plot, I'd love to see how it unfolded, truly breathtaking 10/10 ⭐!
This pigeon family is the real land mafia.
Omg 💪🏽😆😆😆👍🏻
I love how every time a fledgling comes back into the neat and there is already a pigeon they just look at it like. "What the heck? Who the heck are you man? Why are you in my nest?"

Yup...squatter pigeons trying to claim squatters rights.
My thoughts exactly.
Ain't no property in nature son. That's an entirely human concept it's a free for all in the wild
I am rooting for the pigeons and owls, I want them to not harm each other, lol.
The owls literally only care if it becomes a threat. Pigeons are so dumb xD
During this whole thing I'm here wondering why the pigeons didn't just leave
I didn't know these birds would sound like someone going apeshit on the chalkboard with their nails
You are totally right, Barn Owl nestlings begging (the hissing sound) calls sound a lot like Dark Vader.
Why do these pigeons do this if it's not good for them?
That is probably why their population is huge. They are brave.
Animals 🤣
Animals are like programmed.
Animals are like apps, they just have instinct.
They born with a programmed stuff to do.
And humans we are more like IAs, we learn over the way and develop our own experiences.
That's maybe why dogs eat shit even when they have a full stomach, or never stop eating when they find food.
Because their instinct say "eat all you can now, you might have no food tomorrow"
Even when they have a human who gives them food all day.
In this case the pigeons may no have developed the common sense and their instinct may say "lay eggs in a warm and hidden place" without have on mind if there is a prey or not 🤣
Soo common sense is not a thing for some animals
From what I understand, pigeons, at least Columba livia domestica, are terrible at making nests, make their nests wherever but are really really really persistent about it and will return to the same spot year after year. In otherwords they make up for their lack of competency and common sense with sheer determination.

True true, these common rock doves(I think) are considered "Least Concerned" in the endangered species list.
They ain't goin' no where.

Thank you for making these videos without interfering with nature. I learned something about those two birds. This series is very interesting! And both with a happy ending as well. But I really want to see how the Pigeons is going now with those eggs.
An absolute wild ride.
Who else was hoping to see those owls pluck that pigeon up? 🤷🏿♂️
Why do I feel like if the pigeons weren't so protective of their eggs the two groups would get along? Clearly the owls aren't incredibly bothered until the pigeons slap em considering the owls could very well kill the two with ease.
Also for those questioning why the pigeons are "rude, bothersome, invasive and annoying". I'll point out that many pigeons and doves domesticated themselves with human presence for centuries, city pigeons are more or less feral rather than wild as they were once a domesticated group, if humans aren't considered scary for them anymore neither are owls. At the end of the day, humanities flaws rubbed off on these pigeons. It makes it worse knowing that pigeons and crows are highly intelligent which means they have the ability to know what they're doing, knowing the risks, and doing it anyways, much like we do. But hey at least they're good parents.
Well said, but I still hate when they poop 💩 on me. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You can't say what will happen if the owl grows too comfortable around the pigeon and its babies. It could very well eat the babies.
Eh barn owls aren’t built for wrestling other birds. Mostly rodent hunting ambush predators so I wouldn’t say they could kill them with ease. Also once pigeons decide theyll nest somewhere theyre awfully persistent about it.
You seem don't understand by stating that "kill the two with ease".
A lot of people have stated that as they understand it, the cramped quarters favors the pigeon, as owls are still, being birds, (hollow bones,) fragile, want to avoid hurting their own fledglings, and are ambush predators not used to actual head on fighting. So it's actually quite probable the owls would struggle to kill the pigeons without suffering serious injury, hence why they instead try to bother the pigeon until it leaves.
Someone else suggested the pigeons do this because it's a successful, albeit rough, way to secure a nest that snakes are likely to avoid. (Snakes love pigeon eggs, but will avoid owls, according to that commenter.)
So, while this might have to do with their partial domestication, we can see here it might be an effective strategy. Better to be roughed up by a few owl fledglings and successfully earn a nest than to get *all* your eggs eaten by snakes.
Look up "terminally stupid" in the dictionary, and there'll be a picture of a pigeon.
Pigeons are clever.
See that face at 1:40? That's the face of a bird that messed around and found out

maybe you can try to increase the inside space of these nest and see if the two can live peacefully given more space, the two is not trying to kill each other, but just fighting for space.
In the wild seagulls usually hunt down pigeons to eat them or kill them for fun. These owls need to hook up with the seagulls and learn their ways.
Barn owls are not pigeon hunters but rodent hunters. And also the barn owls here are not fully grown up.
@@wildlifeisthewealthofnatur5457 Autistic flex but ok. Pigeons are rodents of the sky so its fine. That's the loop hole. We'll get Barn Owl Assassins, Barn Owl Samurai, and Barn Owl Bus drivers searching and destroying all Pigeons for the fallen baby barn owl it used as a shield in the nest. these are FANTASTIC captures. it's so amazing to watch these animals up close like this. i had no idea some of these owls wouldn't even bother chasing away something as dumb as a pigeon ... and really... you can see how dumb they are by how often they come back to this box that is normally filled with terrible screeching things with beaks and talons way sharper than the pigeon's. weird, dude, lol
If I'd been one of the adult owls, I'd have ripped the pigeons to shreds and fed them to the babies. Show the whole neighbourhood exactly *what* grown owls will do to protect the chicks and no one else will bother them.

I wanted to see what would happen if the pigeon chicks hatched with the owls still around.
If competition for nest boxes is this fierce, the place could probably use more of them.
There are around 150 nest boxes in the area, some of which are empty. For some reason, the pigeons seem to prefer the active barn owl nest boxes. All the boxes are added in order that barn owls will be used as biological pest control agents of rodents instead of rodenticides. Since a barn owl pair eats between 2000-6000 rodents farmers want them in their farms.

You know as someone who came to this channel through the Pigeon vs Owl videos I didn't think I would be as irritated as I am......by this comment section. Here we are with a bird in it's nest being attacked by another bird who doesn't live there but it's the nesting birds fault because.....'owls are cool' I guess?
Funfact: This video, from pigeon arrival to egg destruction, covers about *40* days. Because I feel everyone is getting the impression that the pigeon batted an owl and he came back to wreck her place....there's well over a fortnights difference there because, and I'll say it again, the owl doesn't live there anymore so it didn't have a reason to go inside.
And, just to make it clear, all 3 of those Pigeon vs Owl videos are from 3 different nests all of which you can watch on this channel. This isn't revenge, this isn't a pigeon going into a nest it should've known would be trouble, it's just a bird making a nest and birds that perch and eat nearby being an issue.
Way better than the Last 3 star wars
