I copy the WIN98 folder from the CD to my hard disk so when something needed something from it I could just say yeah, it's in C:\WIN98 🤪 (that's the only folder you need for any of the default driver/software install stuff) - still do it to this day :)
THE NEVERHOOD😢 I played that on an emulator with my sister a month ago. Because I remembered her showing it to me at her father's house. It's such a great game. Unfortunately they don't sell it anymore. It's abandonware.
Yeah, usb mice will work fine you just need to burn a windows 98 iso to a cd-r and it will load the driver fine. You have to do that to do almost anything on windows 98.
PS2 mice are the king for these legacy devices. ofc they must be plugged in before booting the pc because they're not plug n play but they're still important to this day
Also king for OC'ers. When USB bus freezes or has some kind of freak out, the PS/2 port is analog and it will always work... just maybe not support a lot of features.
Most laptop trackpads are actually PS/2 bus devices to this day actually, kinda nuts that the tech is still used to this day, kinda like how the serial port came out in the 60s and is still used today for stuff like managing switches in a server environment.
@@cbtillery135 not since, I want to say coffee lake? Maybe Skylake. All of my PCs are i2c over SPI bridge. There is no PS2 in notebooks sold today. This was introduced as part of Microsoft demanding Windows Precision Touchpads because PS/2 wasn't up to the task of handling that much data input from so many fingers and things for multi touch. They are still used in server environments to an extent, but they are being heavily phased out. Also, managing switches in a server environment is done through console to another PC (which if new is I2c over SPI bridge).
This was my childhood. Come home from school, make a snack and eat in the time the computer would boot up, install my new game only for it to not work 🙃
I bought my first computer hardware at the same store back in 1999! All second hand, but I really wanted to upgrade my 386 to a 486. Worked out in the end!
This Toshiba laptop should easily run Starcraft Brood War, Heroes 3, Age of Empires, Need for speed 3, GTA 2, Half-Life, Doom/Doom2, and of course The Neverhood. At 1998 i got my first PC, with Win98 on board, and these were the games i played on it. Oh boy, only names of the games are bringing such sweet memories, when everything were on CDs...
Hey I know this after show is pretty old at this point, but I'd just like to mention that a really good way to do classic Windows with plug and play USB support on old junk hardware like this is to install Windows 2000. Trust me, it's actually worth a try.
I don't get it, seems to run smooth enough and be of actual use with programs of the time. My granddad had a Windows 3.1 PC (which was already very outdated back then) we used to "play" with as kids. Now that was something else!
Probably been literal decades since he looked at one. I confess I sure haven't, though it wouldn't take me long to remember. I haven't had a reason to look at ancient computers
Well most people don't ever need to because they're probably never gonna use either in their day to day lives unless they either work with old hardware or work with high end network hardware.
me using a compaq from 1996 every night to write on: oh look it's my daily life experience (ok this isn't entirely true I run Windows 98 from a CF card so my experience is a lot faster rofl)
Plug and play was introduced with Windows 95, it just wasn’t particularly compatible with lots of stuff
plug and play? more like plug and pray
in those days, "Plug-and-Play" meant that you could hot-plug after installing drivers. The device didn't need to be plugged at time of boot.

Boot from floppy, format C: /s, mkdir c:\windows\cabs, smartdrv, copy win98\*.* c:\windows\cabs, c:\windows\cabs\setup

Neverhood is life❤️
If it's abandonware, then you can pirate it
Of course its abandonware lol, its a PS1 game
@@alfiegordon9013 It was first released on the PC
My brother's friend used to have original the neverhood cd one day which is like insanely rare but I don't know if he has it anymore..

oh right you can’t just copy to a usb flash drive… which probably requires drivers
WinWorld has all the versions, as released by microsoft! 😄

@@jaywhite15_AL well then, I guess I'm wrong. I have to use serial for managing switches, and I'm studying for a CompTIA A+/Network+.
I just realized from the Toshiba boot up and the Satellite logo...I USED this lappie in my high school! Memories!
Reminds me of a michael mjd video i love these types of videos 😂❤
Huh I guess this is what my boss imagines when they ask “do you know how to use a computer”
It used to be so frustrating lol

Why not use an update cd to get the last set of drivers updated for windows 98 and install those drivers for the keyboard and mouse.
I thought it was spelled "Windaurs" in Aussieland.
Did I just see The Never hood game 4:47 cause if so than Dankpods has to play it on his gaming channel
You got the same exact keyboard as me.
I got that exact set for $5 from a garage sale actually. Would be typing this comment on it if I wasn't on the shitter
You could have got the mouse working, you just select it from the device list, theres an option for USB mouse in there.
Weird UA-cam recommended but good video 👍
You have simply been inducted into the dank pods community
👀👍@@pinkfloyder2990

Yep this shit is why I have used Macs since forever. Windows is just awful.
You pointed at a parallel port and called it serial..........
usb hotswop isnt really that good . because someone can write a program on a usb to spoof a usb mouse and install viruses onto your pc
