Dave, I cannot thank you enough for sharing this knowledge for free. I know it comes out of your pocket, because you have land nav classes that you charge for. So thank you for helping those of us that need it. Everyone should be taught this information in schools. Thank you sincerely!
Hiking off trail exploring watersheds without compass since 1950 s your videos 😊
Thank you once more. This video was very helpful to me and greatly expanded my skill set.

Thanks for passing on your knowledge and experience. I can't emphasize enough to viewers to get out and practice this. You actually don't need to be near a remote forest setting either. You can practice the concepts in a parking lot.
Appreciate your valuable lessons Brother.
As a flight instructor; if I may make a recommendation for future videos; I’d suggest putting north at the top of your map and for our view as your view. I was able to follow your discussion but then I’m fairly comfortable with cardinal directions. Many new to this training may not yet understand the cardinal directions and have difficulty looking at your map from the viewpoint you gave us. It would have been better; in my opinion, to have had your view of the map with north being at the top. The law of primacy is a tough one fight against when you’re showing your east is our north and the confusion that could be inferred by the new navigator. Like I said; I was able to follow and perhaps I’m being just a little picky here but from a training standpoint - having to read the map that was, to our view, sideways and not oriented to N - made it difficult for a few I’m sure. That said - fantastic work Dave. I am a fan of you and your videos and gear. I love what I’ve learned from you and truly appreciate all that you do. Keep posting and I’ll keep watching. Love your work!
Great educational skills video
Hey Dave,
Love these videos. I for one would be interested in seeing some interactive content for people to test these skills you are teaching. Maybe just something as simple as a “Pause this video and try it for yourself before we go over the solution” section? Like many of us, I often think I understand something until I try and do it and find out my learning isn’t as solid as I thought. Taking that next step beyond demos really enhances learning.
Thanks Dave.
Thanks so much Dave
Thanks Dave
Excellent video
Thank You!
I hope your future videos about mapping trails include locating the trails onto a 1:24,000 USGS topo map because that is my next project. I am volunterring at a nature preserve where the trails are marked on a map with no topographic features, only streams. I want to map the trails onto a USGS 7.5' quad. Thanks.
Good stuff
