    I bought my first nuc from Pavel 4 years a go, I have not bought any more bees since then and have over 50+ hives made from that 1st nuc. from splits over the years till now. He got me started off on the right foot with a good hive of bees. We now sell honey, and nucs to support our habit now. Tell him hello.

      Hi! This is Pavel! I am very happy to hear that you are successful because lately a lot of bees are dying out all over the world. I hope you continue to have success in your beekeeping journey! Have a blessed day!

    I’m seeing these videos again as I enjoyed them so much in the past. I just realized how brilliant your idea is in that it illuminates the risk of a queenless colony, which would happen if the virgin queen doesn’t return.

    Anna and Pavel, another excellent video. There is so much to learn and your dad is a great teacher. I am trying hard to learn to translate his expressions and mostly, I understand! So, I believe part of the lesson today is, take the honey before making the split. I will remember this! Thanks and may God bless and prosper you.

      Nice! Thank you for watching! Yes, take the honey! Caging the queen is best done if you have a lot of bees and have a well-established beehive! :)

    It's like coming to a family reunion while enjoying your videos. My problem is I don't want more hives so I do my splits and sell a few and give some away to help newbees to get started with beekeeping. I was just looked in on some new queens today and found beau coup eggs and young larvae. I love this time of year.

    So after the new queen begins laying eggs, the old queen is then at that time moved out to new split colony or sold? She stays in the cage in that colony for about 25 days? Thank you.

    • @AnnaKra
      @AnnaKra  5 років тому +2

    If I wanted to replace the old queen with a new purchased queen could I 1) cage old queen and keep her in brood area for 4 days until there are no eggs or larvae that the 🐝 would make into queens? 2) pinch old queen on the 5th day and introduce new caged queen on the 6th day?

    • @PavelBee
      @PavelBee 5 років тому +5

      Good question! This is Pavel! This may work, sometimes they can still make a new queen cell from a dropped egg and If you purchased a queen already, its not a good idea to keep her in a cage for a long time. I would take the old queen out, after two hours you can add the new queen in. You don't have to cage the old queen, just take her out. This is also a faster option.

    If the queen and queen pheromones are still in the hive, the workers STILL make a new queen before the larvae are too old? Is that part of the reason to put her in the upper box above the queen excluder?

    • @georgegarcia5052
      @georgegarcia5052 5 років тому +2

      Thanks for asking that question, as I was wondering the same thing.

    • @PavelBee
      @PavelBee 5 років тому +3

      This is a good question! Sometimes, they don't make a new queen cell. Why? If they really love her, they probably won't make a new queen cell. If the first option does work the queen is exceptional quality (kind of like in quiet change of queens). If the caging queen option didn't work, you can temporarily separate the queen and the frame she is on for 2-3 days, this option should work almost 100% of the time. When you return her back make sure she is caged. Its better to put her in the second box, above the queen excluder so that the queens don't run in to each other and the bees are not forced to make a decision which queen to keep, because they may stop feeding the queen in the cage or kill the young one. Also, the worker bees can still make a new queen cell even if the larva in comb is too old, I'll explain, I have experimented with this in my practice and found out that when the bees feed the queen in the cage the queen is designed to lay eggs, so when she is fed well, she starts dropping eggs, the worker bees can pick up a dropped egg, put it in a comb and make a queen cell out of it! Even if pheromones are still in the hive, if the bees sense that the queen is not able to lay eggs in comb they will begin to make a new queen cell. In some beehives it can take more than 3 days to realize that the queen is not laying eggs in comb. Hope this helps! Thank you for your questions!

    Hi Anna!I followed the method of caging the queens in 9 hives as your dad suggest.After 23 days i released them ,all of them alive.After 7 days that i checked the hives for eggs/brood,I found that 8 out of the 9 hives were queenless.Will you please ask your dad as why this happened?I cant understand if they swarmed,killed or what else might happened.Thank you !Stelios,Greece.

    So if I understand your Dad doesn't like 2 brood boxes.I thought you need large numbers of bees to make it though winter

    • @AnnaKra
      @AnnaKra  5 років тому +3

      My dad said you don’t need a lot of bees to survive the winter. He also said, commercial beekeeping sometimes have 2 brood boxes, but that’s because they want a lot of bees, and they take those beehives/bees to pollinate big farms! But if you don’t have a big farm you really don’t need that much. Really depending on what your goals are, how much nectar you have around... etc. Also, we are more concerned about having enough honey in the hive, so that they can survive the winter, not having a lot of bees. My dad said he has 40 plus hives like this and every single one survived winter with no problem at all! I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
