Which is not to say he doesn't make some valid and useful points. It's just a good idea to take what he says with a grain of salt and find someone else's opinion!

I consume all of Peters work voraciously, every presentation i can find and have read all of his books, this is classic Peter, slightly sober and on his game.
Peter is incredibly ill informed and speaks with such confidence that he sways lesser minds quite easily. This is unfortunate but much of this speech is misinformation. Personally I like Peter and have listened to most of his talks, but have also listened to other’s far more informed regarding Ukraine and Russia and NATO. Almost all legacy media are reporting highly crafted propaganda as fed to them by the neocon deep state bent on the destruction of Russia using Ukraine bodies and Western armaments with the traditional lies of defending democracy. The hypocrisy is immense look no further than the utter destruction of Iraq the rape of Libya the ravaging of Syria all with lies resulting in the creation of Isis with millions displaced and dead. Remember Afghanistan? 20 years and abandoned with billions of $$ equipment left behind intact. Do you remember the mountain of lies told to us? And you expect to know they all of a sudden are telling you the truth about what they are doing in Ukraine? Grow up.
Um, wow. I've now watched Zeihan describe this situation at least three times. New tech breakthroughs and advancements always have the potential to change the setup he describes, as do political surprises. But he is on the most fundamentally solid ground available. Demographics is destiny, as they say, and nothing is economically more important than abundant and affordable energy.
I love how he presents the current events like ; Ukr/Russ war, China problem etc. , he was so intelligent, gifted person who can even discuss and explain events within his own perception - my praise ! watching from Philippines..
Kabayan here. We have to get ready. We must learn to be self sufficient and not be dependent on the US. China cannot be our friend (I'm of Chinese descent) and we must learn from China's mistake and not apply it in our country.

The Boomers out number every other Generation, so they just by pure Numerically Superiority Racked Up 30 Trillion in Debt mostly for Them, that we have to Pay! In a Hundred Years what they did will be so obvious there will be laws to ensure that never happens again!

In my Mid Twenties, Self Taught! And Eventually learning the Law and Slaughtering Careers as I had back and forth messages with the Gov-Ner! All they did was Arrest me for No Reason and the Boomers would just Refuse me a Trial! We basically didn't have trails were I came from, they Arrest you often over nothing, put you in jail for weeks (to keep it full per Private Contracts with their Pensions Tied into the For Profit Prisons Systems besides the Contractual Penalities if the place wasn't full) than give you time served and a fine, make you take the Deal, and they'll just not give you trial, and just keep arresting you, to beating you, till you take the Deal! All Boomers! And Guess What, all those Boomers, go to the Same Lodge! And our Generation isn't supposed to know all about that, otherwise we wouldn't be their Slaves! I don't have Rights... I'm just a Slave to the Boomer who's Broken Free and is Rebellion!
And it didn't matter when they gave me 3 IQ Tests I kept coming back as Genius to Almost Genius! They Still Kept Declaring me Retarded 🤤 and refused to Educate me based on that False Pretense!

Same here. I'm a GenXer who used to be in R&D. Those boomers not only sucked up all the jobs, they sucked up the R&Ds budgets. In the 1980s, R&D funding was easy to get, so boomers lapped it up and became "experts." Then when R&D budgets began to dry up, boomers still got what was left because they were the experts. Younger researchers trying to build expertise got almost nothing. The worst part is that the boomers thought they were brilliant, when really they were just lucky to get when the getting was good. We're all going to feel it when they take their expertise to the pickleball court, with no experts to replace them.
@@fazdoll Even worse with all the "Six Sigma" and "Lean". Since R&D and Tech doesn't show up in the bottom line it gets cut out. Problem is that it isn't seen how it affects everything else. I had a job where I wore a lot of hats. I fixed our internal servers, we sold equipment so I'd help smaller companies that got in over there heads, I helped salesman plan what to sell and participated in numerous sales calls usually selling more than originally planned, and created new products like a NAS box that did more than Open-E at the time using free software so was cheaper. To this day they sell that box. Problem is sales got credit for all the sales whether I was on or it included new products, and internal IT is seen as a cost not benefit. So come a downturn only thing the new counters saw is money that came in directly from hourly support to customers in over their heads. Many times salesman would include some 'Free Hours' which made it worse. So I cost x$ but only brought in y$ so I had to go.
Peter Zeigan has the magical Crystal ball on Strategic analysis of the world. Everyone should listen to him. He has come to some eye opening conclusions in Ukraine and China. His analysis certainly did get my attention.
I love how when people argue against his projections, its not that they are based on bad evidence, or that the events are unprecedented, or even that there is something missing from the equation , its that they simply seem extreme. I've heard no legitimate counterpoints to anything this man says, other than insisting drastic change is somehow unlikely.
He will say something like 'this is what Russians think', just because Putin thinks something doesnt mean its the actual facts of the situation. For example, before Putin showed how weak his military is, noone had any intention of invading Russia or threatening it. Putin implemented a self fulfilling prophecy, because now any player that wants to knows that they can chip away at Russia and theres a good chance it will break up.
Unfortunately, there is nothing "extreme" about famine, fuel shortages and situations where nations are on the brink of collapsing. It happened throughout history. In fact, Peter was going easy on us. Japan's extreme fuel shortages, brought on by the U.S. in the early 1940s (to deter them from expanding their war on their neighbors and China in the Pacific) caused them to attack Pearl Harbor and start WW2 for us. Hitler murdered all across Europe and Russia in his search for raw materials and oil. This is how world wars begin.
I think that's more because you have preconceived notions or because you aren't listening. The US won't exist in a vacuum, and if you think you can I think you're in for a surprise. The US has a host of advantages that they can and eventually will loose, from the dollar as reserve currency to fossil fuels to military expenditure. By definition what gets you is what you don't see coming. History is littered with unforeseen events, and this will be no different. Maybe not this year, and maybe not next, but it'll happen one way or another.
Well he says it with too much confidence. I don't understand how he can make such specific predictions in a complex world, where things can change, humans can adapt and there may be stuff he just doesn't understand. Like his prediction of food shortage - there was a counter to that, that we already produce way more food than we need. Except a lot of it goes into feeding cattle. So worse comes to worst, it's the cattle that die hungry not humans. The lack of shipping insurance hasn't impacted the Russians ability to sell oil yet.
@@mrgyani People are mixing up his solid predictions with that of the things that he shows can play out. He is rock solid on the demographics of Russia, EU and China. What that sort of world looks like once a certain threshold has been passed. The US has already demonstrated that it is withdrawing from world police duties and will focus its efforts on certain partners that benefit the US.
Peter is great, but nobody is 100% on prognostication. You need to hear some that take the opposite position. Peter is much more persuasive in my view, but it is good to hear the other side. I was listening to some former CIA guy arguing that China is ten feet tall. That is what most politicians and military leaders think. It's ridiculous. There is no reason to get into a war with China.
How does all Peter Z say make sense? USA has unproductive workers, has a opiate epidemic, non existent household savings, dangerous cities with extreme violence & a white supremacist undertone -so why is none of the above discussed??

Some say, "Demography is destiny." I say the history of civilization has demonstrated that one black swan event can change everything for anybody: fire, domestication of the dog, the invention of the bow, horsemanship, artillery, steam power, electricity, antibiotics, nuclear bomb/power, AI, robotics -- and most importantly the things not yet imagined.
@@friendlyone2706 No doubt about it. Thus changing the "destiny" of the principals involved. Changed "destiny" was a transient factor mistaken for destiny. For instance with the Spanish discovery of a mountain of silver in Peru it could have been said by a commentator of the time that Spain was now destined to dominate European economics for centuries. However a bunch of rowdies in a coffee shop in Amsterdam had other ideas. Changed destiny was not destiny and destiny fabricated in retrospect is history not destiny. History is a story. Destiny is not fungible, only human ideas about it are.

Hello John P What is terrifying about what Peter Z is saying? USA does not have the resources to own a unipolar world system & in a multipolar world -those countries with a significant population & population youth & sufficient local market will thrive -it is normal to expect a country with a significant population to be reasonably food self sufficient & have exports-tourism as *significant but not crucial in their economy* & naturally no country wants to be the world's producer like China was/is -but China's cheap exports *destroyed their cultivable land, led to reckless DEBT & urbanization* and selling at a loss meant the Chinese factory owner *send his/her ill gotten money out of China* , led to massive corruption & unwarrented non democratic ONE CHILD RULES & in 2022-2032 -everyone on Planet Earth will see the real face of China

Germany immediately diversified their gas imports to Israel, Egypt, Qatar and soon Saudi Arabia. We will get more gas from Norway snd the netherlands. The only really expensive LNG we get is from our allies the US that charge us 10x of what the russians are charging. Ultimately we will of course get energy from russia again )
Greetings from Mumbai-India You are right about alternative supplies which your Germany will get & in the medium & long term -Russia has to supply mostly to Europe & the only issue is if they get a better price & with Putin's defeat the position & economic prospects will still mean cheap gas Of course the Demographics, small internal market & lower exports all over the world because of local mfg will effect Germany in the medium & long term
I wonder if a future Russia will be part of the EU? I would guess that that is going to be the price that Russia, if you can call it a price, will pay in order to get their European customers back.
I wonder why Peter actually thinks Apple won't continue producing iPhones after this year? Doesn't he realize that Apple has already started factories in India and Vietnam? He really puts his reputation on the line making such blanket statements about one product from one corporation. I think the world's largest (by market capitalization) company can see into the future as well as he can.
Because China is not a very stable place and the inventory of supplies out there are not good. Apple may struggle to source enough to meet their production. Apple has buckled down on China and stayed in there which is a big bet to make.
As an African, my answer to the qn at 1:06:54 was "none" even before she finished her sentence. Peter Zeihan is right. There is a very long list of obstacles from geography to politics preventing us from connecting to international trade centers. The cost of importing the infrastructure we need for manufacturing is painfully high, assuming zero taxes. And once the infrastructure has been imported and the manufacturing plants are running, the cost of production and cost to export makes our products too expensive to compete with China, India or Mexico. This is assuming stable politics, low cost of capital and skilled manpower, all of which we do not have. It is possible that we could become self sufficient, all signs are pointing towards that, but becoming a major manufacturing hub the size of China won't happen on human timescales.
In Germany 🇩🇪 we are not taking it very serious at the moment. We have big discussions about the energy problem, but demographic comes far behind energy and climate. How can we deal with it in a prosperous way? Are there possibilities? It is just breathtaking how rapidly everything changes probably several times during just one generations period
Very much enjoy Peter's insights. Bought his two latest book on Audible. It was good to hear him say he was completely wrong about Ukraine. I'm sure he'll be, shall we say, less than correct on other things. However, I would trust his insights much more that others. There's no reason to be myopic about one person. I do check myself as much as possible with all of the very interesting data Peter presents. I really loved his take on green tech in his newest book. I mistakenly assumed he was a greenie weenie. Not true. He's a "data" expert and not much of a partisan. Very much what I crave in my own research.
"I'm sure he'll be, shall we say, less than correct on other things. However, I would trust his insights much more that others." I think Zeihan is more on the money than lunatic apologists like Mearsheimer.
Zeihan was wrong on Ukraine’s reaction and performance to the invasion. He was right about what was about to happen, even predicting the year where the invasion would start.
@@lieshtmeiser5542 always trust more a man who is willing to admit he was wrong, than a broken robot that keeps repeating the same lines no matter the context or change in evidence.
Everyone was wrong on Ukraine including the gross majority of the military experts. No one saw Ukraine surviving and everyone predicted Russian victory. When you look at the data and the presumptions of the time, there was no reason to think otherwise. No one saw just how incompetent and corrupt the Russian system and military really were. The war exposed all of that. The lessons the Russians should have learned from WW2, the Chechen wars, and the Georgia conflict were all ignored. Even lessons detailed by the Soviet/Russian General Staff on the conduct of proper, effective operations were thrown to the side.
I work at air seperation units. We have 100s in the usa. And not just at steel mills. My company does not make neon due to the roi for building the infrastructure needed. But its all low tech stuff. With the price going up, management could have us producing it within the year if the $$ was there.
Neon is the fifth most abundant element in the universe. However, it is present in the Earth's atmosphere at a concentration of just 18 parts per million. It is extracted by fractional distillation of liquid air. This gives a fraction that contains both helium and neon.
1:01:00 Zeihan previously said that India will face a fertilizer shortage and and will have to go back to subsistence agriculture to avoid starvation. So, the economically relevant population of India will be maybe half of 1.5 billion at most.
@@stevengiji3886 yes he is, but I’d say first and foremost he exaggerates a lot, picking the worst case scenarios. he says 20% of russians have aids, and relies too much on data maps which go directly against my experience. he literally thinks that china isn’t able to make anything high value, cannot take over operations of east ural oil and gas, and doesn’t consider that china has enough of its own oil and gas to continue its militarization efforts. he was surprised that russia completely screwed up the invasion of ukraine even though it was very obvious it would. he’s still overconfident in the US and how it has very little time left to save its demographic structure, and only partially understands why birthrates fall.
I'm curious about your thinking on nuclear (fission) energy as the best alternative to fossile fuels. Discounting all of the worries about meltdowns, waste disposal, and weapons proliferation, doesn't fission actually get us closer to net zero in the most realistic time-frame?
I don't know what Mr. Zeihan would say, but here's my take: 1. There is no federal debt problem. A state indebted in it's own money cannot go broke. 2. Well, then go and fix it. 3. see 2.
I believe in other talks about #3 he's said that the US is currently distracted by a realignment of internal politics, and it will keep us focused inward quite a bit for the next 5-10 years, but it's something we've done numerous times before and it will pass. He's brilliant.
@@fazdoll Same. R&D management was brazenly incompetent as well hubristic.
@@fazdoll I see it at my job… I’m a millennial and tech is going to nose dive..
Best delivery of relevant information. And free! Thank you Peter.
Peter Zeigan has the magical Crystal ball on Strategic analysis of the world. Everyone should listen to him. He has come to some eye opening conclusions in Ukraine and China. His analysis certainly did get my attention.
If there is a podcast, presentation, book, or pamphlet Mr. Zeihan has produced or contributed to, it is worth your time to consume.

Invention can change what part of demography is most important. 50 years ago no one cared about lithium.

Although these days, it's almost as if there's some media apparatus trying to play the part of the mind-controllers of the Second Foundation, to keep things on track.
@@jimluebke3869 The assumption the smarter, wiser should guide humanity is a great part of the appeal of the Foundation Trilogy. An assumption I'm embarrassed to say I once wholeheartedly believed. I was wrong.
You are right, it does seem as if there are those who think they should guide us primitive undereducated. An accidental conspiracy? Or deliberate "guiding?" I don't know, but I understand the road to Hell is paved with good intentions -- and agree with Dr. Sowell the over-educated but under-experienced elites have much to answer for.
I have to watch this video in 20 minute segments just to fully process all the information in it
Mr. Zeihan can talk for an hour and terrify me more than any horror movie. His book, "The End of the World is Just the Beginning" was scary enough with the careful explanation of just the topics of famine and demographic collapse. Add in CoVid and the war on Ukraine and he makes me want to grab my survival GO bag and hide in the woods for the next two decades. I hope this entire presentation is COMPLETELY WRONG but world events are already heading the way he is predicting. Into the Woods.
Hello John P
What is terrifying about what Peter Z is saying?
@@willchristie2650
You are Right -Will Christie & all these seem to be bits & pieces of longer presentations in lecture halls
In simple terms*the US Dollar is the last true asset of USA* and Covid has proved that *citizens in Anglo Saxon countries* have Zero Savings & after *current inflation* there is less incentive to save
China is reducing its population by 45% & has less incentive to *export cheap goods to western countries* & Countries like India have *no interest in replacing China in selling cheap goods* & their IT Service Exports are already 300 billion US dollars in 2021 & will touch 1000 million or 01 Trillion US dollars by 2030- so Western countries *need to step up production to meet the needs of their own people* & anyway prices & inflation will continue until 2032 at least
Yep
Brilliant, thorough, and knows and applies relevant science, demographics and economics, always making relevant the historical aspect, realizing what we do will create its' own history!😎👍👍
Great presentation and would be great to know what will happen in Australia
The dude is brilliant at mixing half knowledge and panic into an entertaining mix but its also mostly that.
Greetings from Mumbai-India
You are right about alternative supplies which your Germany will get & in the medium & long term -Russia has to supply mostly to Europe & the only issue is if they get a better price & with Putin's defeat the position & economic prospects will still mean cheap gas
Of course the Demographics, small internal market & lower exports all over the world because of local mfg will effect Germany in the medium & long term
Germany has not immediately diversified its gas. Where on earth did you get that idea from?
If you say so Mr Big Hands)
@@propertysolutions4773 I agree with you
I wonder if a future Russia will be part of the EU?
I wish peter would do a state by state analysis. To present a blueprint of possible gains of each state.
one of the best analysis of the war yet. good Job !
*Phenomenal stuff from Zeihan again!*
😳thank you Peter. Appreciate your work but, now I need a blankie& a whiskey
One of my favourite "thinkers" and one that makes even the most alien concept...folksy
So fun to listen to. Coming from a German....yay .
Germans need to give the middle finger to Brussels.
However, I would trust his insights much more that others."
I think Zeihan is more on the money than lunatic apologists like Mearsheimer.
His projections are unlikely to occur, what do you research?
I work at air seperation units. We have 100s in the usa. And not just at steel mills. My company does not make neon due to the roi for building the infrastructure needed. But its all low tech stuff. With the price going up, management could have us producing it within the year if the $$ was there.
between the QT and the boomers retiring (and putting all their money into T bills), we won't have easy money though
Lies
@@abracadabrablah so what part of what i said is a a lie?
Neon is the fifth most abundant element in the universe. However, it is present in the Earth's atmosphere at a concentration of just 18 parts per million. It is extracted by fractional distillation of liquid air. This gives a fraction that contains both helium and neon.
That stuff about Russia being the only source for neon is a whopper. Anyone that has access to the planet's atmosphere can make it.
1:01:00 Zeihan previously said that India will face a fertilizer shortage and and will have to go back to subsistence agriculture to avoid starvation. So, the economically relevant population of India will be maybe half of 1.5 billion at most.
This guy is an entertainer

That's how you know it's recent.

Y, not a good look...
Got his latest book - it is already outlined and dogeared... outstanding read.
Wuuuuu!!! Hell yeah! If my teachers would have presented colored diagrames and graphs like this, i would have been prezident of some country by now.
This is phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!
great video, as always, but its SO quiet.
I'm curious about your thinking on nuclear (fission) energy as the best alternative to fossile fuels. Discounting all of the worries about meltdowns, waste disposal, and weapons proliferation, doesn't fission actually get us closer to net zero in the most realistic time-frame?
Fission is the future. We first have to waste time and money on garbage like wind and solar first.
Thorium is the answer
This is a very glib, entertaining speaker.
Please elaborate.
I'd like to hear Peter comment on 3 items:
1. US federal debt problem
2. Poor state of US K-12 education system
3. US political division and disarray
I don't know what Mr. Zeihan would say, but here's my take:
He mostly says that in talks he gives overseas, such as the talk he gave in India.
Thanks Peter. So enlightening.
An amazing talk.
This looks fascinating. I look forward to watching it when you re-upload it with the sound fixed.
doubt that’ll happen boss

Wow! Good stuff Maynard. This is several months out of date now but the information is still very relevant.
*Regarding Germany* : they have a very dense rail and bus network.
Rivers and channels are also major for transport there.
Germany will be able to transport, BUT the raw materials could be an issue.
Wonder how many of the audience went home and started plans for retooling distillation as a result

Despite his dire warnings, most will not heed them, and most will be surprised when it comes true!
P.S. Peter may be the world's best whisky salesman, after listening to him I need a few shots.
You mean shots?

Thank you for this! I haven't felt this exhilarated since B school (1987)!!
Peter sounds smart and well-informed. Love his delivery. I sure hope most of his predictions are wrong.
