Do Wheelies Damage Your Clutch?

  • Busting another moto myth ;)
    Some people seem to think doing clutch up wheelies will damage your clutch, but how? You're literally using the clutch just like you're shifting gears except you stay in the same gear while performing the clutch up wheelie. Thought this would be a great topic of discussion.

    Obviously this is if you’re doing them correctly, if you’re burning the clutch too long then it will likely cause premature wear. Have fun and ride safe guys n gals! 🤠

      How tight should be the clutch, and also does chain slack matter . What about the front and rear suspension settings they need to be hard or smooth??? Answering these wud help a lot 🙄

      Akshay akku of course your chain slack should be proper, as well as your suspension should be dialed in for YOU. Wheelies don’t need special adjustments to your bike unless you’re stunting.

    I havent noticed any crazy wear on my clutch disks from doing wheelies. It's a wet clutch system so the lubrication I'm sure helps.

    Before I even started riding I've wanted to learn to wheelie (a lot of which is your fault btw). I've now been riding for about a year and a half and I haven't built up the courage to pop a wheelie. Mainly because I don't wana crash my bike..again

      idk sometimes you gotta crash to get better man. I learned how to wheelie 3 years ago watching this guy and downshift83. Crashed 2 times learning but after each crash I got better now I’m doing stand ups consistently and haven’t crashed in 2 years. You got it man 💪

      I had a 600 3 years for six months. Sold and just got a 1000 3 months ago. I've mentally accepted that I'm going to loop it eventually learning wheelies, but I'm at peace with it. To me its worth it to learn this skill I've always wanted to have. Thankfully I haven't crashed yet and they are getting high enough that I cant see over the front of the bike while sitting down. Just got to go for it.

      @@travis6951 The thing I'm worried about is having to go through fixing the bike again or worst case scenario totaling the bike. The first fall I had was pretty small but the repairs still costed quite a lot so I don't really want to have to fix the bike again. But yeah eventually I'll probably just push myself to do it!

  • @psensky85
    @psensky85 4 роки тому +2

    All the people that say wheelies burn out your clutch, are probably the same knuckleheads who blast the rev limiter 10 times when someone cuts them off. Wheelies are less detrimental to the clutch than that stuff. The only thing that wheelies put stress on is the drivetrain (chain, sprockets, and tires). I'd be more concerned about wearing the center of my tire flat before anything mechanical on the bike. They are built for high speed, high torque abuse.

    On a lower cc bike like a 125cc yes you'll wear your clutch cause obviously you need to rev it much higher and stress your clutch a lot.... on a 1000cc or 600cc cause it has loads of power the clutch won't be that stressed to pop a wheelie cause with just a slight twist of the throttle you'll be pointing at the sky.... 😂😂

    25 year rider and mechanic here. If you pull your clutch in at high rev for any reason and drop it... youre damaging it. Literally anything longer than to shift up or down and you're causing unnecessary wear. Same for those fools who like to pull it in and hit their rev limiter. You shouldnt even launch with a ton of revs. This will also kill it. Enjoy the premature replacement :)

    My clutch started slipping on my cbrf4i on my second day of learning wheelies. I'm just gonna lay off the wheelies until I rebuild it. Maybe it was already weak? Idk but it was fine until I started trying but according to you maybe I'm just doing it wrong.
