So many different aircraft means more cost of maintenance and training pilots. IAF could have supported indigenizatuon long back and saved money but kickbacks forced them to avoid it.

Most fighters and helicopters in service in the Indian Air Force are bought from allied nations. For example Mi-25 is manufactured and designed by Mil which is a soviet military manufacturing company based in Moscow, so everything which has a Mi/Mil infront of it is bought from Russia. Apache and Chinook helicopters are manufactured by Boeing, which is a American aviation manufacturer. MH-604R is also a American based product. Dassault Rafale and Mirage 2000 is manufactured by Dassault Aviation a French based aviation company. All MiG attack fighter jets are manufactured by Mikoyan-Gurevich which is also a Russian manufacturing company. All the Su aircrafts are also manufactured by
a Russian company known as JSC Sukhoi.
So Indian Air Force does rely on proxies for the most part with them making up more than 90% of their air force (and proxies are even used in army vehicles and equipment).
He isn't speaking without facts, you are just too blind to see it.
It isn't necessarily a bad thing to buy stuff from allied nations, but for sure they haven't had any noticeable innovation as a country themselves.
