My preferred reading order to get the most out of the novellas is:

Dark Creatures
Son of a Vampire (novella)
Dark Destiny
Man and Wolf (novella)
Dark Deception
Mother of Wolves
Dark Redemption
Dark Reckoning.
The novellas are optional, but they add nice detail to some side characters.
