I'd say Vampire Lord was actually pretty good early on. It was even good enough to be Limited for over a year back in 2004.

I think this card was one of the few cards that were able to special summon itself which was strong at the time since special summoning wasn't very common like today.
@@MrZahsome In addition to that, it had 2000 ATK which was enough to run over any Level 4 monster that was commonly ran. Most removal back then was destruction based (Dark Hole Raigeki, Fissure, Smashing Ground, Sakuretsu Armor) to name a few. Also, Cyber Dragon didn't exist back then.
He used to kick ass but he got powercrept so bad

@@shadowbladezorru2748 dude, spirit of the pharaoh was the ace monster of one of the seven stars from yugioh GX and, i shit you not, thar guy was an egiptian pharaoh, known as an undefeated duel god, because he was so bad at yugioh that everyone who dueled him did their best( and explicutly tried hard, cause they needed to) to lose on pourpose to him. His whole gimmick in the duel was that he was sooo bad and anticlimatic.

@@goldensimp7729 Abidos the Third. He even had a facial shape similar to Atem's. I think they were on purpose making fun of their past series. Even though Abidos's existence contradicts almost the entire lore of Ancient Egypt established since they never had the card game back then. So how was Abidos somehow an 'undefeated duelist'
More proof that Spirit of the Pharaoh is bad:
In the GX anime, there's a one-off villain who plays a Spirit of the Pharaoh deck. The fact that he runs that bad card is then used as evidence by the other characters that he's a terrible duelist, and his 100% win record is just an artifact of his servants always throwing games.
For the people who want to know which character he's referring to. It's Abidos the 3rd one of the Shadow Riders. So go figure he played a bad deck (Granted the only one I think is interesting is Camula but I digress)

He wasn't a bad duelist. Nor was he really a villain (despite being a Shadow Rider). He just used a bad deck, because he thought the wins he gotten were deserved. I imagine once Jaden told him his deck was ass, he went and got a real one.

The funny thing is, Jaiden only used his vanilla Elemental Heroes to slap Abidos, he didn't even have to fusion summon once that duel! xDDD
I suspect Vampire Genesis is supposed to be an homage to Dracula's second form in Castlevania, since both Yu Gi Oh and Castlevania are made by Konami.

If only they let you use nomi cards like that in the extra deck. No idea why they don't. I'd just do that casually if someone let me, similar to gearfried the swordmaster or perfectly ultimate great moth with hyper metamorphosis in speed duel as you lose if you draw them.
I wish they'd make a new version of that card, because vampires are my favorite archtype

There's a way to cheat dokurorider. Advanced ritual art. The guy didn't even mention that
@@leonardolim8976 That doesn't qualify as "cheating it out". That's just using a different Ritual spell. And it also requires you to send specifically Normal monsters whose levels exactly equal 6 from specifically your deck to the GY in order to summon it, meaning you need to play a Level 6 Normal monster in your deck specifically to Ritual Summon a super weak monster, while hoping you don't draw into it. Or you play multiple level 6 normal monsters, but then if you draw any of them, they're basically bricks in your hand. That is really bad.

@@cherrychocolate1434 You see, what you do is you use level 2 Normal Zombie monsters instead of level 6 normal monsters. That way you set up your grave for Spirit of the Pharaoh. And you obviously also have 'The Snake Hair' and 'Blackland Fire Dragon' as level 4 normal options in your deck that also work for Fusion summoning 'Skelgon'.
@@leonardolim8976 If you run those cards, then you‘re not just using them over better cards for the sole purpose of stopping a brick that you are _expecting_ to happen, but also not stopping a brick that can still happen even after using them.
And that’s not even considering how you are running the deck _just_ to put a 1,900 ATK beatstick on the field, instead of just running a single 2,000 ATK Level 4 monster.
Kind of wished they retrained Fushioh Richie since it was a pretty interesting card.
Especially in terms of lore of a sorcerer killing others in order to become a undead lich from the looks of it.

@@brianaguilar8283 Problem is it won't stay on the field, can't summon anything else on that turn nor can you damage your opponent on that turn either.
And you can't use your cards to support it either.

@@brianaguilar8283 There's still the the whole "can't summon anything else nor can do any damage this turn" and being flipped facedown would let your opponent easier to kill it(yes, there's Junk Sleep but it can get popped due to there's so much backrow hate cards out there)

@@YohananYGO Jack a Booran, but is quick and works with both GYs, and you can discard a zombie to bring him out. It is not legal yet in the the tcg, because his set will be released on Janaury 30th

How are you an immortal king if you cant be revived from the graveyard?

Since Pumpking the King of Ghosts didn't make the list, I assume it's still meta.
that would be weird since his effect is tied to one particular card that being Castle of Dark Illusions where he just gains 100 atk & def for 4 turns when that card it active.....honestly the effect itself is quite mediocre and it's likely the only reason anyone would use Pumpking would be to use him as XYZ fodder or something

They're both Zombie types with a archetype of sorts (Pumpking, Pumprincess, eh?) and using Pumpking (and Castle of Dark Illusions) to boost other monsters on your side of the field while using Pumprincess to nerf your opponent's monsters is quite deadly.

Spirit of the Pharaoh, is super bad. But I think it's important to remember that it was legitimately made as a joke card. In the anime the guy who uses it was royalty, and he "never lost a duel" until he played against Jaden, and he thought he was the best, but only because his servants would just intentionally lose in order to make him feel better about himself, while Jaden just treats him as another opponent instead of Royalty. It's just a card in service to be a lesson about honesty.
Though it is just like, the worst thing ever and loses him the game like the second after it's summoned.

Fushioh Richie is still one of the coolest looking cards ever created.
Fushioh Richie CAN be cheated out via "A Wild Monster Appears!" All you have to do is flip it face down via its effect and it won't be shuffled back into the deck.
I had a Spirit of The Pharaoh deck back in the day that kicked ass. Gravity Bind, Level Area A, Level Area B and other cards were so fun to play... Ah, the good old troll days. :')

Camula, the shadow rider from Yu-Gi-Oh GX, was hot as hell but even I admit her Vampire Genesis was not really that much of a threat. They just released cards like that just to promote the show.
She was a certified Yugioh MILF. Right up there with Horakhty

I can sort of see Spirit Of The Pharaoh having some play for the sole purpose of summoning Obelisk and using his effect.
Problem: There are so many cards(especially low level beast cards) that can speit out much more tributes in one turn without much setup.

you can special summon Fushioh Richie with "A wild monster appear" spell card, normally you wold need to send the special summoned monster back to you deck at the end of the turn, BUT, because Fushioh Richie can flip itself face down, he can avoid returning to your deck.
I had a feeling that Return Zombie would be on the list. Also, I’m building a Zombie deck and I completely forgot about Il Blud. Thanks for reminding me about the card!

That Skelgon was useful in Forbidden Memories (PS1) since it was considered a dragon. You could use it for Twin Headed Thunder Dragon fusion.
Immortal Ruler is one of those cards that blew my mind the first time I saw it due to how bad it was. They should have made the effect something like this: "If a Zombie World you control would be destroyed by a card effect, send this card from your hand or your side field to the graveyard to prevent its destruction. If this card and Zombie World are both in your graveyard, banish this card to add Zombie World to your hand." There! You still recycle Zombie World but you don't need to waste your normal summon to do so, meshes with the playstyle of the deck that would use it, and even if it still had the special summon restriction, I could see myself giving it a chance in the World Championship and Tag Force games. Nowhere near competitive, I know. I've never played competitive Yugioh anyways.
If there's something wrong with the wording (I would be surprised if there isn't), don't pay too much attention to it. English is not my native language and I haven't played physical Yugioh since the early GX days, so I'm used to the simulators dealing with all the complicated ruling stuff for me.
Thankfully Terraforming became an Instant staple card.
I wish they would make something like a “Vampire Genesis Reborn”. Just as an example. They could rework his effect to make him meta like doomking balerdroc is. Maybe allow you to banish zombies to summon him like a chaos zombie boss monster and then allow you to summon from hand or grave like a red eyes darkness metal for zombies.
"This card is bad because it's worse than this other card that happens to be one of the best cards of its kind in the game."
All the more reason why so many older cards need retrains.
Richie gave me an idea for another list: 10 most flavorful Yugioh cards. It may suck, but the flavor behind it is cool.

Ty for telling about how that lich works I couldn't figure out it was a spell caster lol I thought it was a zombie that did a zombie also performance of sword I used to own I made a deck that had weird def and attack stats didn't work as well as I thought but still made it hard for pure straight attack or def monsters to mess around
I actually own a good chunk of these cards (my favorites being Immortal Ruler, Revived King Ha Des, Il Blud, and Vampire Lord), mostly because I'm a HUGE fan of collecting cards with bad ass artwork, no matter how bad they are. Zombies, Fairies, and Fiends tended to always be my go-to collectors just for being amazing with art, and tragically wasted on bad card effects (like The Ghost Tricks).
Hey! Vampire Lord was my signature card during Middle School! Sure it helped that I basically knew my opponents decks and could just snipe stuff with his ability but that's besides the point.
a little fact of return Zombie:
that card was made during the era of Yata-Garasu Locks, when Konami was experimenting how to counter their own broken cards.
unfortunately the card despite having a better stats than Sinister Serpent, that monster was not really good in their job aswell.

On Vampire Genesis defense, as far as I know, the structure deck also included a lvl 8 zombie that revives itself upon being discarded. As unlikely as it is to have both on hand at the same time while vampire lord is on the field, konami actually made sure that it could somehow work.
If you mean Despair from the dark, it must be discarded by the opponent to activate its revival effect.

4:30 my best friend growing up, and still a very good friend of mine, is names Sivard. And he once pulled this and fushioh Richie within 3 packs of each other. (This was when they had just come out.) So you can guess what we called him, for a couple months at least. Haha. (That's why these cards are two of my favorites. Not too, but def close up there.)

I'd love to see a retrain of the pharaoh archetype. It's a cool concept, swarming the field with low level zombies but there needs to be better synergy, maybe a fusion or a xyz summon that binds it all together

Spirit of the pharoh was so good in the gba games cuz spell removal wss hard to come by, it was rare in the packs, and it was a high level monster you can special summon. So good
The thing about return zombie. Theoretical, you could draw a quick spell, what you could activate during the standby phase, so you would have no cards in your hand and it is still standby phase, so you can add Return Zombie back to your hand.
Skelgon and Great Mammoth of Goldfine both require Snake Hair and other "dragon" as materials to summon. But can anyone explain why the heck a "medusa kind of" thing fuse with a "zombie dragon" become a "mammoth skeleton" thing? That makes no sense! Man, fusion in the old school days is weird...
Because Great Mammoth of Goldfine is just an alternate artwork of Mammoth Graveyard viewed from a different perspective. It was created into a separate monster and, because the pool of fusion monsters was relatively small at the time, created into a fusion that was made with two random materials haphazardly assigned to it.
At least Skelgon makes sense. A Medusa creature turns a dragon into a skeletal monster using its stone magic.
Back in the early days, Fusions seemed to be based more on the types of their materials than their actual materials. Like, if you saw its requirements as "1 Zombie + 1 Dragon", then it makes a lot of sense, and that was how it worked in some videogames. But then, I dunno, I guess they thought that was too good, so they instead randomly picked a Zombie and a Dragon and had them be the materials. Bar the ones that appeared in the manga first, I think you could say that for just about every early Fusion up until Legacy of Darkness.
@@brianaguilar8283 tbh i just find Great Mammoth to be a very lazy card because it's a re-skin of Mammoth Graveyard where instead of it being classed as a dinosaur it's classed as a zombie
Bulborb87 it is a repurposed artwork of Mammoth Graveyard. In the early days of Yugioh, lots of monsters had their unused alternate artworks turned into separate monsters for whatever reason.
the only reason Mammoth Graveyard is a Dinosaur type for some stupid reason is because Mammoths are an extinct and prehistoric animal like dinosaurs were, but that’s reaching pretty hard. Zombie would make more sense because it’s literally a walking skeleton, or at least a beast type would suffice.

The other thing Great Mammoth of Goldfine has over Skelgon, is the fact that the former's materials are both zombie types, wich is more consistent in a zombie themed deck (except if you play Zombie World so that Blackland Fire Dragon becomes a Normal Level 4 Zombie, which is better than a Level 3 Zombie Dragon I guess...)
Another reason Vampire Genesis is so bad is that, at the time it came out, Vampire Lord was one of the best level 5-6 monsters in the game. Weaker attack than Jinzo or Summoned Skull, but a revival effect that was ABSURDLY strong for when it came out, and an incredibly good effect when it dealt battle damage, back when the graveyard wasn't really a resource. So you were trading a really, REALLY good Zombie monster for... something other cards did better. In fact, there was a better Zombie revival card, Book of Life, released IN THE SAME STRUCTURE DECK.

These cards were so much fun... back when they first came out! Most cards from 90's and 2000's are awful these days... and I still run spirit of the pharaoh 😋 haha
As a hard Zombie Main, I love plenty of Cards on this list. Pain Painter is my boy, Vampire Genesis was always so fun to use, and I will forever love Dokurorider and demand a Retrain of him (and Genesis).
A best Skull Servent support cards list would be awesome
I love how much lore there is in zombie cards like Tristan and Isolde which are based off a tragedy play and dead I guess Zombina Zombino and lots of cards appearing as zombies like zombie dragon which looks like dead thousand dragon

Dum card idea/new card type: an extra deck 2, 15 cards, each with a card that can be immediately attached to it’s respective monster. When attached, it a)gives normal monsters a completely new effects or b)gives effect monsters small bonus effects. Just thought this’d be a neat way to make these trash old ritual/fusion normal monsters decent.

I can guarantee that Reborn Zombie and Return Zombie aren't anime cards. They appeared in one or two episodes, but they never used their effects.
The funniest thing about Return Zombie is that it was a Secret Rare in the TCG initially.

@@brianaguilar8283 Checking a little further, Return Zombie came out in early 2004. I'm not 100% on my banlist updates, but that was definitely not far away from Chaos Format. So yeah, maybe he was intended as a Yata-blocker.

Top 10 Best / Worst cards that destroy their targets during the end phase. I'm thinking about cards with effects like Limiter Removal or one of the Graydles.
These cards are good for my fan decks.
To add onto Pain Painter's downsides, Shiranui Spectralsword exists. Its effect is to banish itself and a monster from the grave to special summon a synchro monster of the same level as the two banished monsters added together as long as it's a zombie, basically a graveyard synchro summon. Since it's a *special* summon though, summons like Archfiend Zombie Skull, which need Plaguespreader, can be summoned through Spectralsword's effect.
Top 10 counter traps/quick play spells/ritual monsters or maybe generic sychros
1:05 zombie world helps vs opponent's turn? Necroworld banshee seems a bit costly needing to be on field or in graveyard. But if you're returning zombies back I guess she could be used. Id just rather use my foolish burial on mezuki, or simply have getsu fuhma/marionette mite or other zombie world type benefits like doomking. Do appreciate you mentioning good stuff in both vids as it improved my zombie deck.

Big thing to note, poison mummy isn't OPT, meaning it can be looped by morphing jar 2 to do infinite burn damage
16 minutes and 8 seconds ago I wouldn’t have believed you if you told me Skelgon existed. 1700 lvl 6 fusion monster... with no effect? Yeah I would have laughed it off.
How to semi fix Spirit of the Pharaoh:
-Continious Spell card that is treated as "The First Sarcophagus"
-On Activation, Special Summon 1 "Spirit of the Pharaoh" from Hand, Deck, or Gy (Or just Deck or GY) if you have 4+ monsters in Grave.

This I would say is the minimum amount of effects needed to at least kind of save that card.
Or you could have all monsters in the GY count as level 2 Normal Monsters. Anyway, "saving" the card would kinda defeat the purpose of this card, which is to be purposefully bad.

I remember Reborn Zombie was one of my favorite zombie monsters design wise.
I actually had the old zombie structure deck back in the day. Vampire Lord used to be pretty aces ngl.
You could probly use Pain Painter now in an XYZ rank 2 deck. Also, a card that could be on here would be Pumpking, King of Ghosts. Not only is it a high level zombie with low stats, it's effect is only for itself. What it does is increase its attack by 100 every turn while Castle of Dark Illusions, a fiend monster, is out on the field for 4 turns. Castle of Dark Illusions has 2 effects, a flip effect that increases all zombie monsters on the field's attack by 200 while it's out and while it's out, increase all zombie monsters' attack by 200 each turn for 4 turns. Together, Pumpking can increase its attack by a max of 1500 attack after 4 turns. The problem is both monsters have to survive for 4 turns, else it loses all those buffs, as once Castle, with 920 attack and 1930 def, leaves the field, so does the stat boosts. So a slow effect that actively negates itself after its partner leaves the field on a weak high level monster.
Yeah Pumpking is worse than some of the others on this list imo

The RESULT of the effect of Spirit of the Pharao is actually really good in modern Yugioh.
The card "Superancient Deepsea King Coelecanth" allows you to summon 4 normal level 4 or lower fish monsters from your deck, which can then be used for Link/Xyz summons.
Of course, the effect gets the cards *from your deck* instead of the graveyard, and the card is just a regular 2-sacrifice monster.
4 Level 4 monsters are already not bad, but with modern extra deck monsters, that's a pretty insane effect.
Still though, even if it got 4 zombies from your deck, I doubt anyone would play it even in rogue decks with that insane summoning requirement. The least thing they could have done is have the sarcophagi have half-decent effects and all be spell cards so you can play then from your hand and they're not dead cards.
I love the idea behind Spirit of the Pharao, but the execution is so terrible I don't even want to play it, and I'm biased in favor of it.

Return zombie and reborn zombie could actually be used n a Infinity duck since that Jack is focus around not having any cards in your hand to activate effects
Though I don't especially like vampire Genesis, i don't think it belonged so close to the top of the list either. Maybe between 5-8. Fushio richie and the fusion are harder to summon and have worse effects. The vampire archetype at least allows lord and Genesis to be searched and summoned with relative ease even if it really isn't worth it
Fushioh Richie was a pretty good boss monster in the early days of Yugioh. Back then, boss monsters were all about big numbers and maybe big burn damage, but Richie actually has some protection. I hope Dezard gets a retrain or maybe some support cards that will help bring it out easier.
I had a Dokurorider when I was a kid and back then I didn't know why the card was blue, I even thought it was a fake one. That memory was buried deep in my mind untill now...
