    After years of suffering well meaning but poorly sourced rap (e.g. Nas trying to tell me Napoleon knocked the nose off the Sphinx because of not wanting to see a prominent black face so high) its so, so, so, SO fulfilling to hear someone rhyme about the subject with accurate contemporary historical knowledge. Thank you so very much.

    This has got to be my favourite song on the album. Akala's getting better and better with each album he releases, i'm also glad he recorded with a band for this album instead of listening to a beat in the studio, the bass player and guitarist definitely give so much more to the song. Keep up the good work

      I just found Akala today in July 2023. I searched him up after seeing a clip of him dismantling a white supremacist in real time on TV, he left the racist literally speechless and seething with rage. I'm so happy I found his music. This is exactly what I think hip hop should be. There's a place for party/club songs, but intelligent political rap is where my heart is.

    It is not a distortion at all, the economic model of europe in the previous centuries has been based on imperialism, with out 'cheap labour 'and exploitation of other nation's mineral wealth countries such as England and france would not have accumulated the wealth they have/had, what do you think an empire's purpose is? Without exploitation of human lives our past and current economic model would not work, and why there is and will be such a divide in wealth

    I don't know if you're just a troll, but just in case you're being genuine I'll respond.
    You're calling this song a "negative oversimplification". I don't see how or why you would try to portray slavery in a positive light
    It's a waste of time for us to argue over whether or not we perceive the song to be an "oversimplification" but I'll say this: It's not a spoken or written essay, it's a rap song. Not only is he telling a story but he has to actually flow and make it entertaining to hear.

    oh btw, if you ever go down this route again can I just ask that the Indians get a nod? The fucked up echo of slavery was the following indentured labour where the British Empire performed the next largest migration in history by replacing the slaves with Indians signing them up to bogus work contracts (so they're not slaves, rite?) and pushing them straight into the shacks that had just been vacated.

    • @toyasmith3361
      @toyasmith3361 8 років тому +1

      Why should he speak about Indians? He can only speak from his experience and his perspective . YOU write a song about the Indians

    • @BelligerentWombat
      @BelligerentWombat 8 років тому +3

      He doesn't have direct experience of slavery so your point is moot.
      He's talking historically and people should remember that the abolition of slavery led to the incarceration of millions of Indians.
      As this is all very much in the past its neither my or Akala's experience to speak about this but as Akala is discussing the history of slavery its worth the nod.

    • @toyasmith3361
      @toyasmith3361 8 років тому

      He has direct experience from the legacies of slavery! Did you watch the video or what?! Maangamizi speaks about the CONTEMPORARY effects of slavery! Debt Bondage, misrepresentation in the media, miseducation in school, police brutality, the continous rape of Africa and its resources etc.
      The past shapes the present luv if you didn't get that

    Love it! A shame you swear, but beautiful words! I fully understand the wording which is why I added it to my music list. This song just blows me away. No one on the train who heard me play this said nothing. Truly a message most would rather never know! Being a civilian apart of NATO, I beg the world for forgiveness we do not deserve! HalleluYah! Praise to Yah for your life! Yahuah is the Creator of the heavens and the earth(Genesis 1:1 In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth) and Yah gave His only brought-forth(begotten) Son, Yahoshua ‘Yah is Salvation’ Messiah(John 3:16 “For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life.) to sweat blood(Luke 22:44 And being in agony, He was praying more earnestly. And His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.) and be brutally murdered on a stake(cross) and be resurrected on the third day for the sins of all of humanity!(1 Corinthians 15:3-5 For I delivered to you at the first that which I also received: the Messiah died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Kêpha(Sha’ul who is also called Paul), then by the twelve.) (1 Corinthians 15:3-5 For I delivered to you at the first that which I also received: the Messiah died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Kêpha(Sha’ul who is also called Paul), then by the twelve.) Follow Yahuah’s 7 easy feast of remembrance and keep Yah’s Sabbath(Day 7; Day of Rest)!
    Yahshua literally means ‘Yah is Salvation’ and His death and resurrection gave us the Gift of the Set-Apart Spirit to be our Guide and Helper to do what is right in Yah’s eyes!
    Elohim is plural for ‘Mighty Ones’ and Eloah is singular for ‘Mighty One’ and the Arabic word for ‘Elohim’ means ‘Judges and Rulers’ or ‘Judges or Rulers’!
    Hallelujah is properly spelled ‘HalleluYah’ which literally means ‘praise to Yah’!
    Yahshua literally means ‘Yah is Salvation’!
    HalleluYah! Yahshua is the Messiah!
    “Jesus” is Greek for ‘hail Zeus’ and ‘Iesous/Iasous’ is four(4) deities/idols/mighty ones names combined, including the ‘Zeus’!
    ‘Lord’ is Hebrew for ‘Ba’al’ in every real Hebrew translation!
    “Christ” is the Greek deity/idol/mighty one ‘Christos’!
    “God” is “god” is “Gade” is “Gad”, “Ghode” is “Gawd” is the Pagan deity/idol/mighty one of “fortune”!
    Yeshua/Yehoshua when directly translated from Hebrew to English is Joshua!
    Amen is the Pagan idol Amen-raw/Amon-raw!
    Ecclesiastes 12:13 ISR
    Let us hear the conclusion of the entire matter: Fear Elohim and guard His commands, for this applies to all mankind!
    Ezekiel 11:12 ISR
    "And you shall know that I am Yahuah, for you have not walked in My laws nor executed My right-rulings, but have done according to the rulings of the nations which are all around you." ' "
    Jeremiah 10:2 ISR
    Thus said Yahuah, "Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be awed by the signs of the heavens, for the nations are awed by them.

    nty of rich self made native africans as well. But it is true there is big inequality with the extreme poor and what do you expect, apartheid only ended 20 years ago. Imo It will likely change as the majority are ethnic Africans. However redistributing wealth on race is wrong on so many levels, look how successful Mugabe was....Secondly South Africa is one of the richer countries, it's not as if the other post-imperialist nations who have no european population are doing that great.

    I really do love Akala. Im British but I moved to New Zealand at 7 years old. I discovered Akala in '06 and i haven't looked back, really love the work he has done.
    However, that being said, to say that Europe was built on slavery is preposterous. To suppose that African nations, or Asian nations wouldn't have "dominated" the world had THEY been the nations to get ahead, is equally nonsensical. Of course they would have.
    I think one perspective Akala has lost in recent years, is that human beings are still animals. Not only animals, but predators. The top predators on the planet. That is the same for all races. Also, veganism being beneficial is a disgraceful lie. For example, imagine how common the news stories would be, in every country in the world, if there was still a million lions in Africa. "14 people massacred by lions in Zimbabwe".. Regularly. If everyone in the world was a vegan, this news story would be a reality every single day.

    If you look at the statistics, Africans overall have been getting richer thanks to exporting their natural resources and through improvements in infrastructure through foreign investment. It's likely they'll catch up over time as well. Why they are behind currently? I think definitely imperialism played a huge part, but for the most part they're suffering at the moment because of civil war and internal corruption. Saying European civilisation was built on slavery is as wrong as saying it was built on entrepreneurship. It isolates one factor to explain one of the largest advancements in history. There are also arguments to suggest slavery is an inefficient use of resources which I agree with. The song's argument is barely related to this anyway. It's basically, Europeans behaved like animals, which is true; They still are, which is false
