    About rerolling hammers, I straight up went into the game files and just altered one number to enable doing so. It’s less balanced for sure to be able to do so, but it’s more fun; and you can build your runs with more control. I think in order to balance it properly it should just require more changes of fate to reroll hammers, starting at 2 then 4 then 6.

      I did the same thing for the current balance patch. I wanted to be able to try builds that use the new hammers, but had trouble getting some of them. I think hammers being unrollable is better for balance, but it makes it hard to experiment with builds centered around a single hammer.

      @@sillyentity you go into your hades 2 folder -> content -> scripts folder, find MetaUpgradeData.LUA and edit with notepad, scroll down to “RerollCosts” at the bottom and replace “Hammer = -1” with “Hammer = 1”.

      In other words, remake Artificer a 3-4 grasp card and allow to reroll hammers with extra 1/2/3 rerolls. Allow people some agency in what they want to play and how they want to play it.

    I think you should be able to choose which hammer you give up to the anvil, maybe with a price raise to account for that. Many times I'd rather just have two random hammers than whatever useless hammer I have in one slot, but don't want to risk giving up an actually good one for two more useless ones.

      Well, at the same time, I think it would be a snap pick most of the runs then if you have the money. In most cases, you don't get two perfect hammers, and you'll almost always want two extra random boons that can be game-changing, especially that I feel like most hades 2 hammer boons have less specific use than that of hades 1. But I think it would be more fun if we could choose.

      @@shmooters5599 Their only purpose really is rerolling if you got screwed on both hammers, but at that stage your build probably doesn't even rely on hammers anyway if you even keep the run.

    I wouldn't say let us reroll hammers, but it would be nice if it's always guaranteed that the options are split evenly. 1 is Attack, 1 Special, 1 is Cast if it applies to the weapon. Getting lucky is great and all but it sucks when you get a great Boon for your Attack/Special/Cast but your hammers never offer anything related to the build your trying to make or simply going with what the run offers.

    11:30 the MOMENT you stood in front of the fountain I thought "There's no way he actually uses it right? He'll put on the keepsake first right?" 10 seconds later my worst fears came true

    I still think that Hephaestus's Legendary should be choosing 1 hammer to be replaced with another hammer of your choice
    A little better than his current lego (stronger aspect) and gives us slightly more control of our build at the cost of having to get a lot of Hephaestus /s 😋😋😋

      The problem with that is that it is a bit of a drag to go out of your way to get a legendary just to reroll a hammer. Getting a lego would at least take you to the fields of mourning. At that point, isn't it just better to work on getting another offense based lego that can help your build??

    For the vast majority of players not being able to roll hammers is a good thing. It forces variety since hammers usually are the most influential power up you get during a run, not being able to roll hammers forces casuals (like me) to do different builds and explore the possibilities, thus making the game less stale and the moments when you do get that one hammer feel more special.

    The Experimental Hammer being able to roll the hammer once might be a good way to balance the ability to roll.
    It would give a good reason to use it early on, both to avoid ruining builds and keeping the number of potential hammer boons to a minimum for Chronos.

      My idea is that you would still be given one hammer option, but you could choose between that and a penalty, like damage taken. That way you can opt out if it's a run killing hammer, but there's still an element of risk

      Actually allow 1/2/3 rerolls (depending on your level of keepsake) and "force" a hammer to appear soon - a la god keepsakes.

    I really hope we get reverse/upside down arcana cards, and that’s where we could do the hammer rolls. I think if the inverse of the bottom left card is just “you can roll hammers” it would be a fair trade off, losing the +4 rolls. Or it can be inverse of artificer card so it would be expensive.
    Overall reverse arcana would keep the current set of cards intact, while creating even more possibilities for customized arcana. Just right now it’s already so interesting; imagine the added depth.

    I’d like to have the option somehow to reroll hammers, but get that it’s very overpowered for something like the current Skull as Possessed Array is so much better than the rest. On the other hand there’s situations where it feels so bad when you get a hammer, such as a run with Aspect of Pan, and none of the options being related to your Special, or a run with other blade aspects and getting ALL the options as special related. Having the option to reroll but sacrificing something in return could be how they meet both sides in the middle. That could be a tweak with the Arcana card system, or maybe it can be added as a feature to Icarus’ keepsake, as you do have the chance to get unlucky and have the hammer you want to get as your temporary one, which would then exclude it from your possible picks when you find a Daedalus hammer.

    I would like to get at least 1 hammer somewhere early in the run, it gives the run some unique fun.
    Also it would be nice if the first hammer would allow different type of paths (Attack, Special, Unique) - So you don't get stuck with something that simply does not fit the weapon you picked at the beginning.
    A Item that you could choose at start where you get 1 random hammer upgrade at start of the game that would not expire would also be nice.

    Maybe it would be fun to set one hammer thing we guaranteed get can get on our first hammer just so we don’t get extra hammers. I get that they’re scared people will build the hammer and not the weapon but I think it’s pretty fun to come up with builds that are a little more niche and don’t fall apart with the wrong hammer

    I think the problem with hammers is that you are only usually offered two so having to pick from three bad choices hurts a lot more than it does with boons. I don't know if the fix for that is necessarily letting us roll hammers- it might just be a matter of changing some of the ones people avoid or having some intelligence about which ones are offered to the player based on their playstyle or build on that particular run.
    Especially for the second hammer- if I haven't used or powered up my omega attack at all on that run, don't offer me three choices that buff it. It's too late.

    The only time I ever really feel like I need hammer rerolls is if I'm playing an attack build and every hammer is for the special or vice versa. I wish there were some sort of protection against this in the code.

    I'm of two minds about hammers as well. Certain hammers are so strong they can make runs on their own. So if you can guarentee them it makes the run a cakewalk. I think an interesting change they could do is with the anvils. As they are they're basically a random thing that shows up at the end of the run and maybe ruins or saves a run but they're rare enough and if your run is fine they're useless. I think it could be interesting to have them be stationary objects in a room, maybe in the "final room" in a zone, or maybe at the end of zone 2 and 4. And the anvil lets you reroll a hammer of your choice, that way there's still that limit of you can't use your dice for it so you can't force the best ones that autowin, but you still have some influence that lets you reroll a little bit.

    Hi Haelian, That's a good question and here's my though : They have created a higher bonus tier for weapons and keepsakes.
    So they can create a lower tier for boons let's say : "flawed" (so you have flawed / common / uncommon / rare / epic / heroic)
    If you want to reroll your hammer, one of you boon become randomly "flawed"
    Because it's not "common" it won't be targeted by demeter / hera / fountain to boost them back.
    It's a permanent malus.
    You can reroll hammer once per run (and you are garanteed to not see again the hammer you just refuted, they are ban, destroyed by the internal power of the boon that have been targeted and used)
    So if you want a breaking game hammer combinaison, you can accept to lower a random boon. Risk / Reward is here.
    And besides that, not all hammer have to be OP but they should be at least useful.

    When it comes to cooking on the grill, you should not use pepper before you cook; pepper will burn, whereas salt will not, so it's better to add pepper to taste after you are done cooking. It's the same thing when searing a steak; you can finish with herb butter and seasonings over low heat, but you really only want to salt the meat beforehand to bring out the natural flavors of the steak. If you are looking for more info, a creator by the name Ethan Chlebowski has a great video on YT called "How to Cook a Perfect Steak at home, according to science."

    Maybe one thing hammers could do is offer at least one attack and one special focused hammer each time you pick one up. Because it feels really bad when you have an attack focused build and you’re only offered special hammers, or vice-versa

    I think a Daedalus keepsake could be interesting to give us a little more agency with hammers - within reason, of course.
    Maybe along the lines of “If you have less than 2 hammers, get a chamber with a hammer reward in
    5️⃣ [⭐️] -> 3️⃣ [⭐️⭐️] -> 1️⃣ [⭐️⭐️⭐️] encounter(s). While equipped, you may reroll 1 Daedalus upgrade once per escape attempt.”
    …possibly allowing the reroll to also work on Anvils, obviously still maintaining complete randomness of both the hammer sacrificed and 2 hammers granted

    Hey! I really enjoyed the gold video you did, tried that build myself and had a lot of fun. I also tried to come up with a max health build, got 796 max health, would love to see you try it and see how much you get! Here's what I used: Plentiful Forage, Burnt Offering, Life Affirmation and Water Fitness for the boons. Used Aspect of Melinoe on the Axe, both max health arcana and Frinos. I pommed Plentiful Forage a couple of times as well. Got a random Chaos for +94 health. Got 4 centaur hearts rooms. I also was able to roll Ash twice for centaur hearts with the Artificer arcana. Got Fight Fight Fight from Echo too. I never got max health from the well tho, nor from Chaos (not counting the keepsake usage), nor from the Hephaestus boon, hence why this could be improved.

    They could add an incantation that once per night you can re-roll a hammer. It could have a high material cost so that only long time players can get it (even a prerequisite that you have to have tired all the hammers before it appears plus some story progression requirement).
    Some runs you just get the second hammer late and by that time you already have a build ongoing, if you have an attack focused build and you only get 3 special focused hammers offered it feels bad to get something useless.
    If they don't want to give us the hammer re-roll, then maybe make it so that it can't happen that all 3 options are for the same attack type. Or offer 4 instead of 3 hammers (even though that vould be a UI change,so that is probably not going to happen) It would be also good if we could choose which hammer to give up with the anvil. Even if that would make the anvil more expensive to buy.

    For just two adults that probably don't eat much, get some chicken thighs and cook them somewhat low and slow. Also, get some wood chips and wrap them in foil, poke some holes in it, and put it on top of your fire. It'll really give your grilled food more flavor if you're using propane. I really like greek flavors. Just tons of lemon, oregano, and pepper. Serve that with a cucumber salad, rice, and tzatziki and you've got a killer dinner that's fairly healthy and easy to change up. Chicken thighs are hard to overcook too, they're prefect for grilling. Adam Ragusea also has some great grilling recipes on youtube. The long bean sandwich is a great option, or using your grill to cook something messy like stir fry in a cast iron pan.

    If you forgot to equip the phial before using the fountain, you can just quit to menu and reload your file. It will spawn with you entering the room before using the fountain.

    You do get the extra Death Defiance from the Hermes boon! I once had 5 Death Defiances at the same time - 3 from the Arcana card, 1 from Skelly keepsake, 1 from Hermes boon. Was probably a tad more than I needed though. 😅

    11:42 a trick i have found when i accidentally use fountain before phial (or purchase the wrong item in shop) is to quit and reload immediately , this loads the chamber entry again with same inventory
    feels like we should not be allowed to do that but i abuse it more than I should 😅

    I'd love the ability to control the hammer rolls in some way. While I haven't played Hades II yet, one specific instance I can remember from the first game was when I was using Hera on the bow and all I got were special upgrades. On the other aspects that would be fine to great, but Hera is all about attack and casts the only time I might throw out a special volley is if I have Athena on it to deflect a wave of projectiles, but even that is situational.
    I think they should add a forging station at the end of each region, and tie it to a quest for Hephaestus. Instead of using gold though have it where you the meta-currencies to impact the reforged hammer roll. That way after you have completed all the other quests back at base that require the meta-currencies there is still a practical reason to take one over the other rather than pick a door it doesn't matter. Also, if they did tie it to Hephaestus then you could probably add a boon that also affects the forge which would boost him up in the usefulness of a player's god pool.

    I don't know if it could work but it could be interesting to have to make a choice between rolling boons and rolling hammers. The problem is that hammers are way less common so it would probably feel bad to only be able to roll them. But I wonder if there is a compromise like this that could be made somewhere.

    I think from a perspective of fun, we should be able to re roll hammers. We can re roll boons and still not be guaranteed to see the ones we want, so I don't think it would be overpowered. Plus, I think making re rolls work for doors and boons/wells on the same run was one of the best changes from 1 to 2. Let us roll anything.
    The anvil was always such a tempting option, but it was always so late that it felt too risky. I love Experimental Hammer now for another hammer roll. Maybe there could be mini anvils that trade 1 hammer for 1 hammer, like a boon swap

    Most of my runs start with the Chaos keepsake and whatever God / hammer the game offers me, with the goal to build around that, partially because I like the challenge of making any start work well, and partially because I never really have a specific build in mind when I start a run. I think being able to roll a hammer should be something you get from a Heph duo / legendary. Perhaps his duo with Athena when she returns to the game?

    Maybe it could cost more dice to roll the hammers. Like 2 dice for 1 roll and 3 for the subsequent rolls? they could also add the ability to roll hammers to "The Seer" arcana card for more exclusivity.

    maybe adding the ability to re roll hammers or force a specific hammer as a legendary offering from icarus! wouldn’t be that useful right now without the rest of the surface zones in the game, but when the surface is fully implemented it would be a game changer for any run where you’re lucky enough to get it.

    To be honest, I don't think randomness is Hades' strength. In other roguelikes randomness is a gameplay challenge - you are constantly expected to adjust your play style based on choices available and you make choices to try to maximize your expected value based on the information available. You might need to pivot in certain situations or take advantage of weird synergies or make a strange choice because you got unlucky and are in damage control.
    Hades isn't like that. You are always going to play Pan as a special spam weapon. You are never going to pivot to a cast build for Medea. Which is fine, I like the game the way it is. I like the weapons feeling so distinct. But that kind of means that randomness is purely a difficulty modifier (a small exaggeration - maximizing odds through rolls and door choices or keepsakes is still a thing - but I think for the most part this is true). If you find hook knives then your Pan run is easy and if you find only attack hammers you are going to have to sweat. To me that's not fun. I think SG thinks its fun, and it might be for other people, but to me its not fun. I don't want to win a run because I got lucky and I don't want to feel miserable some run because I got a bunch of bad options.
    And to be honest, the idea that SG keeps bad boons or hammers bad for the sake of increasing variability so that sometimes things suck so you feel lucky at other times just feels bad. It is incredibly harsh to say (and probably more than a little unfair, although I don't know how to say it otherwise) but if they think a major part of what makes Hades fun is simply that your power level is random then I think they fundamentally misunderstand what makes randomness in roguelikes interesting.

      I think you're misunderstanding what SG means when they say that you can't expect every hammer to be amazing. They're not saying that they consider some boons or hammers bad, they're saying that not all of them are going to feel "god-like" or gamebreaking.
      Besides, the benefits of each boon is completely up to the player. For instance, Haelian doesn't like the Hammer "Inverted Flame" and finds it pretty trash, maybe mid at best. But other players may find it amazing for how they play the game. All boons and hammers are arguably some form of benefit to grab, the amount of benefit scale between runs and boons. Like, you wouldn't really want Aphrodite Attack when running a long-range weapon.
      The thing I find fascinating about the way Hades works as a roguelite (Because, remember, it's a roguelite and not a roguelike) is that you can let the randomness be a factor or not. I've seen someone build their runs entirely off what hammer they get first. They pick a weapon they feel like running and depending on their first hammer decides the run they build at the end of the day (Yes, that includes ending up using Pan Knives with a focus on attack due to the first hammer they got, they were using the special as secondary damage by the end of the run).
      And the biggest thing to remember is that Hades 2 is still in Early Access. They're still tweaking things and messing with balance issues and ironing out details. Plus, there's still likely another section of the Surface to get through and the "end game."
      If you're struggling with the game having the "fun" type of randomness that you like as you described, I recommend just slightly adjusting how you play. If you're into that! Do a run without a build planned and go with the flow of what the game gives you. It's all up to you on how you want to play the game.

      @@shaelynmartin1996 I will take the playstyle tips under consideration. I am struggling to imagine to imagine a situation where I will start dealing more damage with Pan using primarily the attack, but I will try it. Perhaps that is what I need to start pushing higher fear.
      That said, I'm pretty sure a lot of the hammers (and many of the boons) are meant to be bad. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that say Melting Shredder (the special - not Omega - removes 20% armor) is bad - the melting hammers are already poor in general and now you have to use what is literally the smallest, clunkiest attack in the game. I struggle to imagine any player could somehow make use of it. Or if I look at boons, something like Zeus' Shocking Loss is literally useless. And again I don't think it takes a genius to see that killing 7% of mobs in a game with so much AOE is pretty much a dead boon.
      If SG hears criticism about boons and hammers that are nearly unusable and responds "well, you can't expect everything to be good" then, yeah, I am going to assume that those boons were intended to be bad.

      @@menaceonbike5893 I recommend checking out a channel called Hamstir! They're a Light Commentary channel playing their runs through Hades 2. They're not the person I mentioned who builds through hammers, but they do seem to love some of these boons you're talking about. Like, they got Zeus' Shocking Loss right before Chronos and it definitely helped them with mob control while they focused on Chronos (It was pretty funny seeing them pop into the boss chamber and a mob just get zapped away in the cutscene with Zeus laughing in the background). As for the hammers that "melt" armor, they seem to adore them since it massively helps them cut down through armor.
      Like, if you're running a Special only build, having a hammer that just cleaves through armor that the special daggers already struggle with can be a god-send.
      I know it's hard to imagine that things weren't intended to be poor or bad, but just remember the end result of Hades 1! That is a wonderfully balanced game that got smoothed and polished over and over again until the devs and the community was happy with it. I have faith Hades 2 will end up being the same, where full release won't happen until the devs and community are happy with it. Just remember that the devs get a lot of feedback of differing variety from so many players!

    My thoughts on rerolling or influencing hammers is that hammers are strong enough that you shouldn't be able to reroll them, but I do believe your weapon and aspect should have a little more influence over what hammers you get. (perhaps, for example, on an aspect focused on the attack you're guaranteed at least 1 attack when you pick up a hammer. It sucks to be doing an attack run and only get special hammers and vice/versa.)

    It does suck when you get a hammer and nothing works with your build, but it also feels really satisfying to have a build work even with crappy hammers. I think being unable to roll hammers is good for the game’s balance

    I think the ability to use rerolls for hammers would be good to tie to a keepsake. Because then you would have to choose whether to keep it on for most of the run to find the perfect upgrades, or just use it for one hammer upgrade you really want and swap it later. Maybe have that be Heph or Icarus's keepsake.

    I think that if they make rolling the hammers a toggleable thing in the option, like the God mode. That way the player can make the choise from run to run - But you have to enable it yourself. Sometimes you just wanna jump in and f"ck around and make as busted a build as possible and go auto pilot, and sometimes you actually want a challenge.

    Dunno if you're a Mexican food guy, Carne Asada plus a tomatillo salsa w some grilled corn tortillas go dummy (grilled pineapple w some tajin) its just mouthwatering. Plus its super easy. Ethan Cheblowski has a great recipe for both of those things. Go easy on the peppers if you're not a spicy food guy, make sure you dont have any hot pepper seeds, if you can handle a lil.

    I’d love if SG would release the stats each patch on which gods, which boons and which hammers are chosen the most. That’s the clearest data showing what’s bad.
    I’d guess Heph is low. I’d guess some duos and legendaries are hunted for a lot more than others.

    Perhaps rolling hammers could replace the arcana card that costs 5 in the bottom corning and you could maybe only reroll a hammer once or it was more expensive on rolls or something like that to balance it, idk just a thought. Maybe you only could reroll 1 hammer per run

    Luck is still a factor because rerolls can still screw you over by giving you the same 4 bad options even if you use all your rerolls. Which is heartbreaking.

    Rerolling hammers is the number one thing I wish they add to the game. It's always to disheartening to pick up a hammer and get 3 options that do literally nothing for your build. Heck, I would gladly even spend a reroll + a death defiance to roll those away.

    Instead of rerolling hammers it'd be nice to have the odds of each reward to be skewed by boon keywords, where by default it rolls like you have "1" of each keyword. So for example, if you had an aphro attack you would be more likely to have attack or omega attack-related hammers and that liklihood would go up the more attack-related boons you have

    maybe there should be an expensive grasp card that lets you reroll hammers, so you can do runs with and without the ability. it means you have to work your arcana setup around rerolling hammers if you want to do so and choose between the different arcana buffs

    What about an Arcana Card that lets you choose from 2 pre-determined groups of hammers (i.e. mostly Attack-based and mostly Special-based)? This would probably be a feature added closer to 1.0 launch once they get up to 10+ hammers per weapon. Not sure of the Grasp cost--probably 3 or 4? Maybe 5.

    Hey dan ,for eos i found that the best way to max out the dps is daybreaker into omega special ( prefferably hera's special). Still not sure about an overall optimal build though .

    What if you could unlock the ability to "block" 1 or more hammer choices from appearing before you begin the run? You could remove hammers from the pool that you would never take anyway cause they would kill/be useless for your build. Then with fewer hammer options in the pool, you would have better odds of getting that one hammer you really want, without having too much control over it. Obviously, there would be a limit to how many hammers you could block.

    Maybe a shop between zones (themed around Icarus?) where you could pay to exchange a hammer for another shot. So you'd have 3 chances, but you'd have to get through a zone first, and it would cost gold. Maybe that makes it too easy, but something like that. The gold cost could be high

    i def feel like we should be able to reroll hammers because there have been many times that i get hammers that just don't work with the build i have or sometimes affect two separate things very slightly. Maybe make the hammer rolls cost 2-3 to balance out how powerful they could be.

    Would you ever make a guide on dodging (dash/sprint)?
    For instance, I notice good players not only have good timing, but they know which direction to dodge to in order to maximize damage and mitigation.
    I think a lot of these little things don't come natural to some of us.

      I'm not sure it's something I can put into words I'm afraid. I would imagine it comes down to knowing each enemy pattern and what they're capable of which just comes with playing the game a lot. I can think on it though.

    My take on hammers is that you should be guaranteed to get at least 1 hammer for your attack and one for your special. Though I also think it would be nice if you could get a specific hammer early more reliably instead of resetting, and I don't know how they would do that without just letting you roll

    I feel every time Inser out to build a specific build, e.g. omega Special circe, I get all the attack hammers and no Special ones, praying I get am anvil before chronos.
    I could attempt to pivot my build, but thats not what I want.
    I would like to reroll hammers, or upgrade to 4 choices.

    Concerning the Hammers, the fact that I've seen you get 4 hammers and could theoretically get 5 hammers would make them super OP if you could choose which hammers to get. It would be nice if the internal mechanics of the game would take into account what skill you were using during the run. for instance, if you were using attacks more than specials or casts, then at least one of the offered hammers would support attacks.

    I think re-rolling hammers, in the long term, would hurt the game's variety. If you can just rig things to get the same three to five good hammers for each weapon, a chunk of them will go completely unused by a lot of players.

    One hammer reroll per run. I think you shouldn't be able to guarantee the one thing you want, but you should get at least one thing that helps, most of the time. Sucks to get three Attack options when you're all in on a Special build, etc

    i think hammer rerolls would be way to game breaking. I wish there was a way to make it so they wouldn't be all the same type because it sucks so much when you get a hammer on like a special build and you get all attack options. I think maybe being able to reroll but it only actually rerolls 1 of the hammers (without you being able to pick) so the cost of rerolling is so much higher as it's likely to be just a waste of a reroll

      You can reach fear landmarks with each weapon to enact testaments, buy them at the end of runs if they're offered in Charon's final shop for like 1300 gold, or buy them for 1000 bones from the broker

    I think it'd be fair if you could roll an individual hammer option, just not all 3 at once. Like you can swap out the worst option. All other mechanics around rolling are the same, so while you could reroll you'd be severely limited. This might keep you from having to take a useless hammer, but would deter higher difficulty runs from using all rolls on getting the perfect hammer.

    I think I understand being unable to reroll powerful modifiers like hammers empowers the roguelike aspect. But it currently doesn't make much sense because the hammers are not that strong/game changing, and Cast functionality being untied to most weapon choices sometimes makes the hammer unnecessary.

    Rolling hammers makes it very easy to force a build in a way that's uninteresting. In hades1 it made it 90~% likely to get the two insane rail hammers, for example.

    I think one of the main reasons you shouldn't be able to reroll hammers is because an "unlucky" hammer can force you to ADAPT. Games like Hades are largely about adapting to what you're given, and if you can cherry pick everything that sense of it being an uphill battle to make a good build would be greatly diminished.
    That being said, I wish you could get more choice from the Icarus hammer. My idea is you can choose between one hammer option or a penalty, like damage taken, so you can at least avoid a hammer that kills your run.
