One way to make gold = damage boons more fun is to count the money gained instead of hoarded. Then as a downside lower the damage. "You deal extra damage equal to the +%10 of the money you've earned this run, -%50 damage from all other sources". This doesn't invalidate shops and still forces you to think out of the box.
Before people start coming in trying to argue with Dan's math. At 53:01 , the bag takes 681 damage broken down as follows: Formula = Base Damage * (Sum of Multipliers) + Golden Rule 681 = 25 * (1 + .50 + .29 + .15 + .14) + 629 Base Damage = 25 from specials Origination = .50 Uncommon Grace (Hera Boon) = .29 Dancing Knives (Hammer) = .15 Mean Streak (Hermes Boon) = .14 Golden Rule = 629 (12564 gold /100 * 5 = 628.2 rounded up to 629)
Then the wording on the Golden Rule is wrong! It should read as "5 damage per 100g" not "+5% damage per 100g". The "5%" assumes that you take the damage you would have made without the golden rule (in that case 25 * (1 + .50 + .29 + .15 + .14) = 52 damage) and THEN do +5% per 100g on that 52. So 12564 gold /100 * 5 = 629 PER CENT. So 52 + 52*629% = 52 + 327.08 = 378. Since the video coincides with your calculations, this means that there is an error in the boon text. Incidentally, I would much rather prefer if it was 5% per 100g instead of "bonus 5 damage per 100g". Because then, damage, as "flat damage" should be subject to origination and other "damage augmenting" abilities/boons which would make the number skyrocket to the 10s of thousands. All in all the wording and the calculations in the game are VERY inconsistent. I would love to see the actual spreadsheet with base values and the calculation formulas that they probably have in SGG.
Yeah the tooltip is just wrong on this one and really it's just one simple mistake. It has a percent symbol on it. Should say "Bonus damage per 100 gold: +5". Not +5%. More correctly it could say "Bonus damage: 5% of current gold".
every dagger having enough damage to trigger blitz is nuts!! blitz should be thought of as how many hits to trigger. this was 2 (the minimum) on the fastest hitting weapon. nutz!
Dude, this was incredible, even though you definitely missed a pot of gold in one of the early rooms in Erebus. Big pot of gold too, see 45:00, on the left.
I just did this run myself earlier today. Fear 16 nothing crazy but I really enjoyed that it's in the game. you can play very differently and make use of all those odd boons that usually are low use. Makes for a fun odd run.
Weirdly, the enemies in the final fight drop money - but they *still* drop money with Deep Dissent. I've walked into the fight before and noticed little money piles where the removed enemies would have been.
Possibly something to think about after they rebalance the boons, but it could be interesting to do a run focusing on each of the duos - can they work, can they be fun, how much effort does it take to unlock their potential, etc? Cause you made a great point that it's a limiting boon in how you play to make the most of it, but you were clearly having fun!
3:49 i do hope they patch the golden so that it would affect other sources of damage. either that or rephrase the boon description so that its clearer what type of damage it boosts
I had a run once. Started off with the chaos boom for plus 165% gold, I couple rooms ahead I got a chaos gate. Chaos offered me a plus 155% gold boon. I immediately went towards getting the hera dou boon. Had 4k gold by start of Oceanus. Sad sad times.
is this a glitchless record? :P there is a way to get infinite money on doggo with the charm hex o.o already F10ed this one twice the medusa's he summons halfway gave me 80g/hex yday but I ran out of mana because of common born gain at ~4k gold :P
I'd like to see this build with the heroic aphro special along with the duo that makes all enemies "close". I think you could maybe reach 20-30k damage per omega special with that
The additional damage from Golden Rule wouldn't be affected by the Aphrodite boon, it would be a mild increase at best (I explain this at the start of the video).
39:30 I do like Binding of Isaac's money=power, but that game is different from Hades in that money is genuinely useless in the late game. Shops stop appearing past floor 6, and arcades aren't guaranteed, so it's fairly common to end runs with max money anyway.
So I got the chaos Boone that you're talking about at the very beginning and I was in Tartarus and I got the three coins and decided to take it and it was $875 coins when I cashed it in
There is something deeply appropriate of nearly two shotting p2 chronos by just hoarding money, but also not being able to spend it. In capitalism this is the equivalent of borrowing against your assets at an interest rate lower than those assets appreciate (eg. stock or real estate). So lenders are paying you to have more money that you also get to spend or use to lobby for lower taxes, without actually triggering any capital gain tax, because you didn't actually sell anything. Congrats on being the 0.01% wealthy! The ultrarich simply write their own rules because they write the politicians' checks.
Theres a limited specific set of boons wanted from the gods (the money ones), as everything other than those are bad forsaken makes it so its easier to get the money ones
wow. but rolling for money in the earlier chambers? when in tartarus you can get triple coin, and most probably will have more chaos boons by that time.
I think this boon is useless in any run not centered around it. Think about it, you already have your build going and this gets randomly offered, why in the world would you start saving money when you could just get more boons or poms to help you out? Any damage you'd get from it is negligible, there's no way to just start saving up 4k gold halfway through a normal run.
Chronos didn’t you know? Time is Money! And I have all of the money in the world!
But soon, Melinoë learned -- that Money is not Time.
Ugh, return to shadow, now!
this would fit perfectly as secret dialogue after hitting like 5-10k gold in one run lol
You can get heroic chaos boons by getting the Duo that increases the LVL of your keepsakes and then equipping the chaos keepsake.

"you deal (and take) extra damage equal to x"
12k gold is crazy and it could go way higher with Double Up, maxed out Moon Water gold, more Chaos
Yeah I just had a run where I got 8k just through 2 chaos boons and a Poseidon boon. I wasn’t even trying to get that much, it just happened

Formula = Base Damage * (Sum of Multipliers) + Golden Rule

@@gharn2594 Eff Ten then? :)
@@PhilipAlexanderHassialis Yep
The cast while charging Omega is a true gamechanger for me. Didnt know that before
I find great humor in the irony of Chronos is being beaten up by the very Gold that he stole, minted, and spread throughout the lands.
Who wants to be a melinoenare?
every dagger having enough damage to trigger blitz is nuts!!
blitz should be thought of as how many hits to trigger. this was 2 (the minimum) on the fastest hitting weapon. nutz!
Except it was actually pretty bad. Blitz was only procing once per omega cast, so added very little for this build.
@@gharn2594 then it wasn't skewing the results and was making it easy to see how much damage golden rule was adding

Thank you for uploading during Australian lunch time we all appreciate that
haven't tried it in the latest patch but you could exploit heracles and revenants for infinite money in the launch build, fun times
First time I’ve reacted out loud a Haelian video “DONT TAKE IT!” On the Heavenly Flourish pick.
It's insane that I didnt realize that I've watched an hour long video
Weirdly, the enemies in the final fight drop money - but they *still* drop money with Deep Dissent. I've walked into the fight before and noticed little money piles where the removed enemies would have been.
This would have been crazy with the old staff’s special spam😮💨
the way you explained it makes me think the devs forgot a set of parenthesis somewhere.
It essentially works the same as Hoarding Slash did in Hades 1 weirdly.

That was a fun watch, thanks Dan

They should change the color of Quick Buck and other non-boon "boons" so it's easier to know what's what

do enemies from further regions drop more gold? so that one fear vow would help?
I think the only enemies that dropped gold in the Fields were the miniboss and one of the dudes in the Cerby fight
This is the timeline where Chronos wins - the Golden Age, exactly as he envisioned!
Chronos when Melinoë the gold hoarder shows up:

@@Haelian Ahhh I gotcha
The money bag enemies give you money if they hit you with their beam. Just something To consider if you do something like this
Is it just me or did hecate sheep orb get slowed by frigid sprint?
Cyclone slows proj (you can see it very prominently in the chronos fight), cant recall if the tooltip says this
Watched live, hype. Ty haels
Fyi changing the arcana cards will change the initial boon you see when starting a run.
Perfect hat for billionaire run

the omega cast is so slow i think they should make it faster, i rarely use it for that

i farm 30k gold on surface form heracles with revenant but it take long time around 2h XD

is golden rule damage crit-able?
We think so? Have not confirmed.
@@Haelian It is, judging from the code. It's the one way it's different from H1's Hoarding Slash.

Most likely not (I have not tested).
Oh this is the jeff bezos run
Actually Deep Descent does give you gold for the enemies it takes away, it's like they die immediately instead of just not spawning
So much money and Chronos didn't notice. Disappointing.
