What this lady says is actually incorrect. I am a Chartered Architectural Technologist and can design any building. The stark difference is in the education; an architect is 90% design and we are around 60% with around 40% on the construction buildability and function. We are the essential conduit between an architect and a builder. We are not less than an architect just different.

Are you working in the UK? In Canada, technologists can only design residential up to a certain size without an architect's seal.

So, exactly a Architectural Technologist it's like a build contractor, civil engineering? and, that's mean Architectural Technologist its better are simple architect?

@@ColonelClusterFunk She's most definitely in the UK. That's the only place that I know where the technologist and architects are equal. ....In Canada the scope of practice and size limitations does vary some from province to province. In Ontario a technologist (or registered designer) can do any size home if it is a 1 level, and up to 3 storeys with a building footprint no more than 600 meters squared. This also applies to other residential buildings, commercial, and light/medium industrial buildings, but you need to be registered with the 'small buildings' qualitication.

What is said here may be true in her country, but is factually incorrect for most of the world.
I am a Chartered Architectural Technologist in the UK and can design any building that I am abe to based on my knowledge, skills and experience, this can be done with or without any link to an Architect. As an example I have deigned hospitals and other residential and non residential buidings in the UK for the NHS and private care providers. No restriction is made on size, complexity or value.
I am Chartered through Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). Outside of the UK CIAT is becoming more widely known and the chartership provided through them is widely recognised, but some countries have local regulations, licences, etc. that may restrict practices or limit what can be done.

This is completely inaccurate. I’m an architectural technologist and I’m fully capable of construction buildings of all sizes. She should’ve said that architectural technologists focus more on the functionalities and management of the building while architects focus more on the designs and aesthetics

Here in the States, one can design their own home, however, the design has to be approved by the local building dept. There are architects who in general have worked over the years with specific building depts. and thereby, they have already approved and accepted built home plans. The architect can sell those plans for $750 - $2000. The key points are percolation, ground water, and sewage removal. Those factors determine necessary factors affecting treatment of location prep and basement location. Those tests are standard.
Also, one can act as their own general contractor, as long as, they have approved plans and routine inspections by the local building dept with approval for each phase.
    Thanks Gary for the content.
Through these informative videos I am becoming more acquainted with your locality's accepted processes.
    Nick

The UK is similar people have to apply for planning. It normally for the ordinary person is easier if an architect does it but they can still do it them self.
Planning regulations in UK are super strict and all the fake carbon environmental regulations mean only the rich can build their own home in the UK.

Interesting... In South Africa, most individuals who I know that are ArchTechs, has the ability to design structures like hospitals, malls, etc. It is just, that here in SA, the way it is approved differs between Architect and ArchTech. The authority differs as per rank, but the knowledge and experience does not really make a difference when it comes to rank. Again, the education also plays a role, but in an economy like ours, we tend to do more for our self-enrichment.

What you have said here is that without doing a B ARCH and Masters we can do a Architectural technologist course and build small and medium sized houses. That means the drawings made by a Architectural technologist can be submitted to City office for all approvals without the stamped drawings of a Architect. Kindly reply and clarify.
