I was in the coast guard for 10 years and I enjoyed every minute of it. I look back on it now and all of us are chosen angles and guardian of the seas. Coast guard men and women are very humble and devoted.

Lol, can you really say that with a genuine heart? I believe Coast Guard is good for the most part but like any other agencies or department not everybody is humble and devoted. At times it is even very political nevertheless I still think it's a good service.

I remember watching a really old video that got taken down. They took Navy SEALs and put them through "A" School which is basically Helicopter Rescue Swimmer school. The SEALs failed it as they all gave up. So people call them tough wait till you see the Rescue Swinmers. So Others May Live!

Happy 229th birthday to the United States Coast Guard!
On August 4th, 1790, President George Washington signed the Tariff Act that authorized the construction of ten vessels, called cutters that were to be used to enforce federal tariffs and prevent smuggling. This system of cutters was later named the Revenue Cutter service, and in the following decades it gained more tasks and responsibilities.
The U.S. Coast Guard was 'officially formed in 1915, when the RCS was merged with the U.S. Life Saving Service. In 1939, the Lighthouse Service was added to the USCG, and in 1946, congress permanently transferred the Commerce Department's Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation to the Coast Guard, putting merchant marine licensing and merchant vessel safety under its control.
In 1967 the USCG was transferred to the Department of Transportation, and then to the Department of Homeland Security in 2003, where it currently serves.
The men and women of the United States Coast Guard are ready to perform any task that is asked of them, at any time. As I type this, an entire network of individuals is ensuring the safety and security of our nation, and for that I am thankful. Semper Paratus.

I’m in the Coast Guard and I’ll say is the best branch of all, we do more than any other, ever since we are small we have to learn other jobs. I’m a Mechanical Engineer(That’s my main job) and I got qualified in Damage Control, got trained in First Aid, later on I can get my EMT qualification, got qualified as a firefighting, I’m a translator, I’ll get qualified as a boat crew member, I’ll get the bording team member qualification, after that I’ll be sent to BO(Boarding Officer School), and I’ll get Boat Engineer for small boats/interceptors. And Qualifications go on. In the navy or other branch you are assigned to only one specific job and that’s it. I’m proud to be a coastie, truly am. Saving lives and do drug interdictions is the best rewarding things ever.

@@RedRedMCmusic You must be very good. Currently the USCG only accepts 4 percent of applicants and 1 out of 5 of them will not graduate boot at Cape May or they will get reverted to a later company. Get in shape BEFORE you go. If the recruiter tells you will have to pass a timed run of 1.5 miles then get used to running 3 miles. If they say you'll have to do 50 good pushups, then get used to doing 100 before you go to Cape May. Trust me, you'll be glad you did when you look out that barracks window and see hundreds of other recruits in formation starting their morning 1.5 mile run at 5:00 a.m. every day.

I am a retired Firefighter/Paramedic. I currently teach in the Paramedic program at a local community college. I will be using your video during orientation and at various stages of their education. Maybe some will go on to be Coast Guard but mainly I just want to instill a sense of pride in ownership and the ability that each one of us has if we don't let fear overwhelm us. This video makes me wish I wasn't about to turn 60 so I could take a crack at being a Rescue Swimmer. I have listened to this video at least once a day since I found it. It keeps me motivated and helps me remember that 60 is just a number. Semper Paratus, well done.

Hello Liam's, I just stumbled upon your video and I want to thank you for it.
I was in the Guard for 13 years after serving 9 in the Air Force. I retired as an AT, (E-7 Avation Electronics Technician ). My last posting was at the Electronics Technician School at Elizabeth City, NC. as the senior chief.
During my time in the Guard I was stationed at Elizabeth City Air station, B school at Millington Navy Station, New Orleans Air station, Cape Cod Air station.
I enjoyed my time in the Guard, because I didn't do the same thing two days in a row.
I have jumped out of the chopper's, stood at the rear end of a C-130 throwing out flares, in a HU-16 doing the same for all kinds of hours and missions.
Spent many hours as a radio operator and navigator. Repaired the electronics equipment for the AC.
I hope you keep up the good work and tell any young person, male or female, about the Coast Guard.
I talk to any and all about the Guard that would/will listen.

    • @liamhughes5446
      @liamhughes5446  Рік тому

The audio is a compilation of several different speakers, I took the first part from a different video. At 1:20 the speaker is Les Brown, the speaker that starts at 5:56 is Alan Watts 'The Dream of Life'. I know the first speaker is Steve Jobs, and I've been pretty successful at tracing down who said what by just searching for a line of their speech on either google or youtube. Each segment is taken from usually larger speeches, so if you look up the line you'll probably get each individual full speech. If you have a specific section you're interested in please let me know and I'll do some digging!

To both of you. You will never know unless you try. I’m enlisting over the summer. I never thought I had what it took to be a firefighter before I became one. Now I’m on two departments and a special ops rescue team and even with all that I still want to be in the Coast Guard more than anything. You have to have an attitude that you always want to be better than you were yesterday. If you want it then go for it, but be all in. If you half ass it you’ll regret it for the rest of your life

Chris Canto I don’t have a lot of experience with that side of civil service, but what I do know is that you have to be mentally on your game every single time. You’re processing so much information all at once. For example: at a working fire not only are you dispatching every unit going to that fire, but you’re also talking individually to each one of them trying to give them as much information as possible. You’re talking to the incident commander, the incoming fire units (ex: about hydrant locations or different water sources available if one runs out or is dead), the police, any BLS or ALS coming in (what kind of injuries are on scene and where the incident commander wants their vehicle. That’s the basics of what they do at a fire and at the same time they may be running a police call and or an ambulance call in another town at the same time. God bless them for what they do, it’s a tough job. It’s not terribly hard to get your foot in the door to become one, just act professional and show them that you’re enthusiastic about what you’re applying to do. Good luck to you

I served 5 yrs. When you go to boot camp you will be challenged, physically and mentally train for it and start putting others before yourself. You can make it if you want too. If you can't make it there is no shame, I met a number of young men and women who couldn't get thru the program and I had respect for them for trying. Good luck in your endeavors.

If you don't already have it, you will find it. I'm 50 years old, spent 6 yrs in the Guard, most of it doing SAR in AK. I went to college and got my BA in finance. IMO there is no more rewarding feeling than you put yourself in harm's way to save another person. Regarding not knowing if you will be brave....as long as you prove you want to be there and you believe in what your are doing, the people in Guard will provide you with the chances until you succeed. IMO people quit, the military services don't quit the individual. Wouldn't it suck to be older and wonder what could have been? There isn't a day I don't look back with pride and remember that I made a difference in many people's lives. And no, it's not all fun and action all the time, learning to balance the two is a challenge. Oh, and I had one hell of a great ride in the Coast Guard.
