@@countrymama2839 being non-religious myself and knowing many non-religious people, I don't find that is necessarily true for the majority. It's more that as a group, if we give an inch, others try to take a mile and try to get us to see "why we are wrong". It's not that we don't have interest in others beliefs and it's not that we look down on them, it's simply that we don't want our own beliefs attacked because they are still beliefs and we still have morals. I'm sure there are absolutely some non-religious people who are downright rude and disregarding, but I feel more often than not non-religious people are leaning on the side of caution and just keep to themselves.

I really appreciate your gentleness, humility, and Christlikeness in this video. I am not Mennonite, but I am a Christian… I’m a member of a Southern Baptist church. I think we honestly have far more in common than we have different as far as worldviews and lifestyles go. One thing I really love that you spoke about is the concept of aging. That is something that I feel our culture devalues so much. The Bible talks over and over again about the honor and inner beauty and wisdom that comes with age, and I honestly look forward to the wrinkles and the greying hair because that will mean that I’ve had the gift of getting to live life with the people I love, serving the Lord together. Of course there is that balance of still taking care of our bodies and practicing health and hygiene! But I’m thankful that I don’t have to feel that pressure or being tanned, toned, and twenty-five forever. Living as a Christian releases us from so many temporal and unnecessary things. 🤍 May the Lord bless you and yours, Megan!

I’m a teenager and I grew up wearing jeans, long shorts, skirts, and dresses. I’ve never worn something that’s shows anything that should be covered. Basically everything you said, was how I was raised and whole heartedly agree with, except that I’m not a Mennonite! This year though, God has put it on my heart to wear more skirts and dresses. And yes, I have gotten comments about how cute they were (and some weird looks😝). To the people that ask why I wear skirts and dresses, I tell them that I want to be modest because it’s what God wants, which shares my faith. (I got most of the dresses and skirts from Inherit!) I think people are so used to seeing immodest dressed teenagers nowadays that the modest dressed teenagers stand out. So, I just wanted to thank you for the clothing inspiration, and your beautiful personality! You are a person that I look up to, as I approach adulthood. Thanks again!

God bless you. I wish I had been as mature as you are at your age. Your message is beautiful ❤ I'm 36 years old, and finally this year I've matured in my faith and dressing more modestly is one of the areas that our Lord convicted me of as well. I love how you you stated that dressing feminine and modest is an outward testiment of your faith. It's very different in our current culture, so it absolutely stands out in the best way. Blessings to you.

Wowwwwww this is so beautiful!! I always feel like I'm in the minority when I talk about the teen dress these days. The crop tops, and cleavage, off the shoulder tops, shorts that show their behind, I just don't understand why a young girl would want to be on display this way at that age. It makes me sad. But I feel so hopeful to see that there are young people like you who can see the value in not going along with that to fit in. You must be a really good kid. I hope you treasure that ability to think for yourself, if I had that at that time I may not have endured a life of addiction and bad choices starting in my teen years and changing the course of my entire life. That's such an important time stay strong and faithful, be careful of your choices and the people you surround yourself with!! You've got a bright future ahead ❤️❤️❤️

Megan, I loved so much of what you said about Mennonite culture. I am Jewish and raised my children in a Chabad synagogue. The topics you addressed about being or bringing light into the world, modesty, head coverings, brotherhood/sisterhood, following the words in the Bible / Torah, daily worship, our inner being vs outer ( makeup, Botox ) etc. are very similar to how my family lives. I don’t wear makeup, taught my kids not to leave the house with dirty or torn clothes, only bought modest, age appropriate clothes, not frumpy, for my 4 kids, sent my girls to girls only camps, and my husband (29 years) and I love each other very much and have not worn wedding rings for 25 years. I enjoy your channel mostly because we have very similar values and I learn so much about your culture. There is something so special about women who are “women of valor- eshet chayil (proverbs 31 10-31) The more we know about others the more we can appreciate what is special and the less fear about what is unknown and misunderstood.

I find this interesting. I use to think of Mennonite as living simply, but after watching some Mennonite UA-camrs, including Megan- I don’t (in my opinion) feel they live simply. They have fancier homes and home decor than I do. They keep up with trends and remodel their homes to participate in those trends. One I watch even collects vintage cars. I’m not saying this judgmental way- but, just very surprised. I don’t view this as living simply. I do admire and respect their Christian values, value of fellowship and family, and modesty.

UA-cam recently suggested to me a video where someone was interviewing you as a "conservative Christian mother" and the comments were so ugly and filled with hate that I couldn't bear to even watch the interview. People saying that they hope you hate LGBTQ people and other religions.. oh it was so horrible. It weighed so heavy on my mind because I try so hard, as someone who isn't a Christian religion, to not think of all Christians as hateful, ugly, violent people but wow some people make it REALLY REALLY hard to do that. You are a ray of sunshine and speak so honestly yet eloquently about your perspective and experience, it's very refreshing ! Being non-religious can sometimes feel vulnerable around religious folks because of that "judginess" that you talk about I think, so hearing your views is so heartwarming! I look forward to "hanging out with you " every Thursday haha. Take care Meghan !!! Keep shining your light ! ☀️

As someone who is currently expecting an IVF baby, I can tell you with certainty that nobody experiences more anguish over those "leftover" embryos than their biological parents. We can't control how many embryos come from a cycle, and they are most definitely our children that we wish we could realise. There are options to donate the embryos to other women trying to become mothers, which is wonderful. Also, in some countries like Australia where I live, it is incredibly difficult near to impossible to adopt. I would've gone down that route if it was possible or as accessible as it is in the US. For those who haven't experienced the anguish of infertility, it is impossible to understand the journey that leads to the decision to undertake IVF.

My Dad worked with conservative Mennonites and Amish, and it was a hard reality to feel like my Dad’s bosses and families disapproved of us because we were not as conservative. Loved your overall dress!! Checking out Amazon now! :)

Thanks for sharing, Megan! As a fellow Mennonite I agree that there is such a spectrum of belief so I'm really impressed that you were able to dive in and answer all these difficult questions without claiming that you are representing all Mennonites across the board. I especially loved what you said about letting our lights shine and about how Jesus hung out with people from all walks of life. Yes, there are great things about Mennonite culture, but we also shouldn't be in some kind of isolated subculture- we are meant to share and shine! Appreciate all the thought and care you put into this.

My son and his wife were 19 when they got married and I worried about it but he definitely was mature enough to be a husband and take care of her and then they didn't deal with the temptations they would have had they waited. Hi Megan, Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. I appreciate how you hold fast to your beliefs. I remember being the “weird girl” through high school because i was the only one with long hair, long dress, no make up and i did not use certain language or go to parties. I must say that the little time that you stand out is just that, a spec in time. Now at 36 years old, i don’t even notice if people think i live strangely. I have never worn make up or anything like that and i, same as you, appreciate not having that pressure. ( and our skin is often much clearer). So all of that just to say, i am not a Mennonite, but was raised very strict old school Christian and i agree that we are very blessed to be raised to live for God. Keep on Keepin on sister💕

Megan, Thank you so much for sharing all of this information and doing Q&A videos! I’m new-ish to your channel and have learned so much already. I especially appreciate your candor and honesty and how willing you are to answer questions from non-Mennonites. My grandparents all grew up Mennonite in Lanc Co, but I was raised in a fundamental evangelical church and realized I don’t know a lot about the culture they came from. I also think growing up in rural Lanc Co surrounded by the “plain” community I formed some unhealthy judgements from just a few limited experiences or observations. Your videos inform and challenge those opinions, and I’m enjoying learning from an “inside” perspective. Also, most importantly, thank you for all you are doing to share the light of Christ with your audience! Your influence is motivating me to examine how I could do that better in my own life. ❤

I am apostolic and we too look “set apart” and I am first generation however my husbands family has been in the church for a very long time. I find myself getting a lot of questions from family and friends about why I do and perhaps look “different” and I think it’s so nice to have these wonderful and educational discussions where anything can be said and addressed with respect. This was such a great video, Megan! I really enjoyed watching/listening. I laughed out loud when you were answering one of the questions and said something about, "sorry, if you're not mennonite you just won't get it." SO TRUE. =) I have a bit of a unique perspective in watching because I am not mennonite but come from a mennonite background and so I totally understood everything you were saying. =) I appreciated your loyalty to the mennonite culture (truly there are so many wonderful things!!) and yet your balance in honestly discussing some of the downsides and issues. I also really want to thank you for how you acknowledged the truth (it is very true, sadly) that many Mennonites just "stick their head in the sand" more or less on some issues, and how that is a weakness that you are working to personally improve. Really loved your humility in sharing that.
Anyways! Didn't meant to write a book, haha! But just wanted to say thank you!

Great Video! Living not far from you, I have encountered the same behavior of some mennonites. I am an outgoing person, and talk to just about anyone! I love that you mentioned that Jesus walked among all types of people and did so in love! The only thing about jewelry that I differ on is the wedding ring. I don't see it as "adornment", but as a reminder of my commitment to my husband. I smile when I see it, and in this day and age, when there is no ring, it's another signal..lol. It doesn't make us any more or less married, but for me, it's a symbol rather than an adornment. We were married at 18/19, 45 years ago this may! Blessings!

Great job explaining how the Mennonites are and came from. I myself have become more of a modest dresser / no makeup jewelry (a story behind why) to which I give God the glory for giving me the strength to dress the way I do now and wear the head veil. I know the exact moment when I was convicted of this and being obedient has given me great freedom and peace not to mention my husband loves it. My friends in Lancaster love my transition and have told me they wish more would do so. Like the verse, you quoted let your light shine and I hope people see that light in me. Thanks for always being real with your channel and for sharing. Blessings to you and your family.

I have been feeling this conviction to dress more modest lately. I am in a weight loss journey now and am going to be buying dresses and skirts when I get to my weight goal (I will need to buy all new clothes as it is so why not then?). I have had the hardest time trying to figure out what dresses to get. I told my husband that I would wear a dress if I could find some like the Mennonite wear...but you don't find clothes like that at Walmart! I recently found dresses that are practical and pretty and modest (all hard to find in stores IMO) so i have my wish list and am awaiting the day. I expect to be there 5.5 months 😊 I can't wait. I also can't believe I can't wait to dress in dresses daily. I never saw this conviction coming. My husband is fine with this new way of me dressing so I am happy about that too. In the mean time I am praying God give me the confidence to do this daily as an outwardly sign of my faith.
