@@seeks1986 white hoodie guy is awesome id rather have him talk than to just sit there and be quiet the whole time. He also does commentary for stivitybobo when playing Banjo Kazooie. Its all in good fun.
Spikevegeta (donation reader) is trained in theater and from this he learned a healthy dose of narcissism. His commentary on games he knows is great but if he doesn't know a game he will be oblivious as he is here.
I know the donations are for a good cause but holy shit I just wanna watch the video with some sound and not hear the guy talking about donations all the time.
LOL. your comment just made me laugh so hard. thanks. The thing about the donations, they are read live for the people who put up the money and keep in mind it's all going to a great cause, which is cancer prevention, research and education etc. The fact they are read over runners is annoying at times, but this is an unfortunate side effect of a live marathon.
I beat the third level without the tan a bunch of times. Not in good time but i did beat it. I loved this game as a teen. Still my favorite game to this day when people ask me. "Across all platforms and years what is or was your fav game?" Always say "007-N64" lol So many sleepless nights trying to get the invisible and invincible cheats. Multiplayer on Complex all night. lol
Some ideas: 1. take a cue from PBS/NPR and choose the most compelling 'shout outs' 2. set a donation limit for shoutouts($50+) 3. A scrolling bar as others have suggested. 4. Separately mic the announcer and don't archive him ... I don't know, but it is too much. with some runners who don't talk much it is okay but this guy wanted to explain a lot and the announcer really stepped on his toes.
Damn, so much hate for the announcer in the comments. The announcer for the NSMBWii run at agdq 2015 said that the headphones that they have to wear are really noise canceling. And the runner wasn't exactly loud when he said he needed quiet.
sometimes simply paying attention will not allow you to learn certain things. There's a lot going on that people who aren't familiar with GE running might not understand just by watching.
Grew up in japan and actually had 007 goldeneye in japanese, though at my age when it came out, reading all the japanese was tricky, so it is REALLY cool to see the nostalgia of the text and how to ACTUALLY play the game on 00 agent. Thanks guys!
1:21:10 Wow the guy reading donations needs to shut his LOUD mouth for one second, it creates super awkward situations, like this. His voice makes my ears bleed...
Was the announcer louder than normal in this video? I felt like the speedrunner asked a few times for quiet and it didn't get honored..oh well, still a great video!
And man this run definitely seemed focus intensive just because I remember how difficult 00 Agent was in this game trying to unlock EVERY cheat and level. It took me so long back in the olden days, I can understand people saying that the commentors voice being so loud, I've always thought it was maybe his proximity to the microphone of the stream but it just seems overwhelming at times when even I'm trying to concentrate on watching the games stream and stuff haha, but I appreciate the donations
9:23 ..... He just interrupts the announcer like "yeah! fuck your donation" lol made me chuckle.......Then he has another go at around 10:00 :-) yes, living my life is like having constant kidney stones.
yes there is. From the description: Click the link below "Download AGDQ 2013 -" (Archive.org link) and then download your favourite runs. When you play these .mp4 videos, depending on the video player, you can change the track audio to just hear only the in-game audio.
The amount of donations this marathon was unprecedented. They were just doing things the way they had done them every other time. Not to mention that a lot of people donate because they like hearing their donations read. And this reader actually did a great job of only talking when the players stopped talking.
I'm glad to hear the levels I struggled the most with are considered two of the hardest levels (Train and Water Caverns). Those were the only two I could never unlock the cheats on, but I un-locked every other one and beat every level 00 Agent of course.
Some of the games only have 1 audio track because they were taken from Xsplit if I remember correctly. Starcraft 2 is one of them :( Nearly all of the runs done on consoles and Game Boy (Original to Advance) supports 2 audio tracks
Props to the runner around 1:15:00 for wasting a guard and taking the time mid-stride to clap at the total. Dude went beast for real and seemed like a real cool, focused dude.
Omg... brilliant idea. I've been 'annoyed' by the announcements from comments and such from each and every single donation that goes through, I understand that a major reason besides trying to 'fight' cancer is getting their comment read on a stream recording, but it is much more enjoyable for the audience and people watching to hear the runner tell about their experience learning the game and what they know rather than hearing an overwhelming voice reading comments that all say the same things
Agreed. I just stumbled on this stuff today and thought the same thing. Obviously all donations are important and appreciated At one point the runner says that he will need to hear details and shortly after the announcer starts talking anyway. Then the runner fails the mission. There must be a better system.
I love Alex! I also really like the Asian commentator, he's so shy but his commentary is great :). Great run Alex and shoutouts to SDA for a great marathon. Can't wait for SGDQ, hype! FrankerZ
Look at 6:02. He grabs a body armor from the box. The English version didn't have no body armor there. Enemies also have lower HP in this version. It might still be a good run, but you can't compare it with the difficulty level of the English version.
Ok so I said you should of done at least Secret Agent mode until I seen this video, now I give you my praise *bows down repeatedly shouting I'm not worthy" very nice run
Yeah, it's difficult not to make a mention to the announcer. This video pretty much sums up why I can't stand any speedrun with Spike involved, more up to date included.
I played this game for years when it first came out. I was never at the caliber of the elite players, but I got to be pretty good at it due to just playing it for so long.
I am addicted to these videos!!! but some of these i cant even watch cause its 2 hours of donation announcements. Great cause and I'm happy to hear people donating, but Have a scrolling bar of text and let the gamers talk about what they are doing instead of a constant interruption.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Is that Chex Quest I hear in the background from 1:41-2:08. Fucking epic! Now that needs a speed run. Someone get on that shit, like now!
yes exactly EtherieICS. it's to entice others to donate and appreciation to the donators that it's read. although i do agree they should be brief, but the majority of them to me are. and the attendants appreciate the comments too so it adds to their atmosphere. as others said, runner and announcer agree to the announcements ahead of time, so it's all good. we didn't miss anything , the runner said everything wanted to say.
no. in fact, he did Aztec twice. once for the speed run of 00 Agent, and a second time to get the cheat code (since it's done on a level easier than 00 Agent).
I know the donation announcer was doing his job. But man… this was just too much. Best to always ask the runner and the couch if it’s a good time for donations because if not you’ll end up sounding like this. As far as the run goes, that was some brilliant execution! Bravo!
Problem is partly that this announcer dosen't ask if theres time, he just speaks, and a lot. In some of the other videos I've seen of this the announcer ask if theres time to list a few donations.
I had fun playing this as a kid with friends and family members back in 1997 on my N64, and while it can still be good for some casual fun, it has definitely aged like milk, and even back in 1997, there were better FPS games like QUAKE 2, TUROK, DOOM 64, and HEXEN 2.

in the American or European version they removed certain BAs in 00Agent from locations where they are present on lower difficulties, like the one on the first floor after the console in facility (on top of that crate to the left). i guess they just forget to remove them on Japanese
Goldeneye has aged extremely well when compared to other Nintendo 64 games. The retrospective analysis of the graphics is mildly unfair but the smoothness of most things can counter-act any debate of "poor graphics" and "stupid guards". This game is probably Rareware's least-broken game, there's hardly any real game-breaking glitches to talk about!
Of course. Like you said, I can appreciate the fact that people donate, it's a really good cause. But I do think it really takes away from the experience, not just for the viewers, but for the runners, as well.
Ah, nice. One of my favorite games growing up. And if the guy who replied before you is right about the time....WOW. Thought this 90 minute run was awesome, but 36min?? Impressive :)
