Man seeing these two UA-cam OGs talking and discussing how they both have grown into the content creators they are, now it hits me hard realizing that I've grown up and matured along these two. Really warms my heart seeing these two bonding and reminiscing about the past, it has a nostalgia that I most certainly welcome.
Is Ian an og? I feel like to compare someone that came up in 2005 and someone that came up in 2014 are two different eras. They both seemed to define their eras now that I think of it.
@@Thomas-nz4si in my eyes I see them both as veterans to the platform but yes they weren't per say the EXACT same era but they were both certainly around before the ad-pocalypse and UA-cam's massive policy changes.
We're at a time now where all these "older" UA-camrs are also older and it's videos like these that make you realize how long it has been and the fact you've watched these people grow as you've grown. Like Rooster Teeth just turned 20 years old and the realization that I've been a fan for 19 years is insane
So happy he fondly remembers the times with Frank, and Max etc. Those videos were pretty wild but their banter and goofiness together made me so genuinely happy.
@@gamingyoshi2280 Most people find that aversion rather laughable given how these fans emulated Ian's mannerisms at the time. Clearly he played into it and now regrets it.
*Felt weird.. when everyone started barging in on his relationship* with his girlfriend.. and called him a simp for saying he didn’t care about what his girlfriend did for a living… felt weird to watch him have to defend and talk about that subject but also the level of which people cared about his personal life to that degree.
It doesn’t bother me what she does it bothers me how she acts as a person. She sold out her dads illness and just is an all around selfish weird person. She total is Ian’s handler now
@@somethinginthenothing It's less of the fact that it happened because he criticized everyone and more that because of his content he garnered an incel audience
@@duh4895 bingo Edit: I don’t even need to label them incels, it’s a much wider group that just has a cynical and underdeveloped view on a lot of social dynamics.
The “talking shit” thing is so real. I’ve talked shit on other creators and artists that were much bigger than me, and the moment they respond to it I just kind of feel like an asshole. You almost forget they’re real people.
Let me ask one question. Is there anyone who idubbbz shat all over who didn’t deserve it? I don’t care if idubbbz is too soft to stick to his guns but I wouldn’t give any charity to anyone he made fun of. they were assholes.
imo idubbbz overexaggerated how cynical his humor was. He would rip into people in his content cop videos sure but that was the theme of that whole video. I think a lot of the fans get it twisted and try to emulate the cynicism to a higher degree making him look more cynical in the process.
@@basedboi3956 I'd hope so, considering a lot of that content was 6-7 years ago, and people old enough to understand or be able to laugh at the humor were between 13-16 years old at the time.
I started watching iDubbbz when I was about 12. His Bad Unboxing series and Content Cop series was the type of humor I grew up with. I grew up harnessing the same ideals and morals these videos put out, and it wasn't until my late teens that I realized I needed to change. Seeing Ian come on and discuss how it was harmful for both himself and his viewers to put out that kind of content was eye opening. He used to seem like this untouchable creator, and no one could ever break him down. But he is human, like the rest of us are, and he realized his mistakes. This was a very important interview
We do miss the bad unboxing and content cop from middle and high school. It's been fun. As Jacksepticeye puts it we miss the old us but we have matured together.
I relate to this pretty hard. It put me in a certain pipeline + saying/ believing some pretty bad stuff without even REALLY thinking about the things I said and how that stuff ACTUALLY impacted others. It wasnt just 'edgy', I was saying heinous, chronically online shit. So its really nice to see idubbbz denounce that stuff. I never stopped watching him up until earlier this year when I had thought that maybe I shouldnt support someone who didnt denounce that stuff. But its nice to see hes changed, Im probably gonna watch again. I actually watched the creator clash live.
"why do you cry more often?" "Gaining empathy???" made me cackle. this dude is self aware and that's great. i have a lot of male friends who, because of the way society treats men's mental health, didn't "gain empathy" until well into their 20's. (obviously it's there, just repressed because men aren't supposed to show emotion or vulnerability)
He's 32, so I think he was a bit delayed in emotional awareness but it doesn't matter so long as it happens I suppose. My mother didn't understand empathy truly until her 60s. Now THAT'S an issue lol
I appreciate that insight. I was actually a very empathetic kid, but as a guy, I stopped being empathetic as I got older. It felt like I *had* to cancel out my empathy in order to survive in the world, but I’m trying to be more empathetic again
Until a year ago I’ve become way more empathetic. As an autistic man I had a hard time understanding people until I’ve felt the loss of family. It’s rough growing up.
I gotta say, I've got respect for idubbbz. He grew up and risked losing the majority of his fanbase by maturing. It sucks that those former fans still seethe over it.
Except he didn't "mature" he changed for the worse. Both filthy frank and Max do completely different stuff now than they did back then, and nobody has half an issue with them. Idubbbz gets flack because he's a disingenuous dick.
He changed so he could be platform and advertiser friendly if dropping N bombs and ragging on LolCows was the best way to make money right now he'd be doing it.
@@doggerlander You can google so many dark humor jokes that don't come to the expense of others, but you chose the "I won't do my own research, I choose to be ignorant" route.
I still quote iDubbz's "I have osteoporosis" and "I have crippling depression" to cope with both of those illnesses that I have. It's great to see how much he's grown
@@fiendskull5414 I mean I dont see how realizing things you used to do were attracting the wrong crowd is a negative thing and it doesn't seem like he hates himself
Honestly really happy that iDubbbz can be open like this, one of my favorite episodes you have done honestly. Typically I start watching these then pick them up later at a different point in time but this one I watched the entirety of it in one sitting. Very well done.
Sometimes I feel bad for idubbbz because he really did attract and build a fan base of shitty people. Years later they are still obsessed with harassing him and Anisa because he isn't their edge lord king anymore.
he brought it on himself by pandering to them, but yeah it must suck to have to deal with that. hopefully he's able to move on from it so he can make amends and do what he wants to do.
Stoked for this. Some of my favorite people are those who were edgy who gave no fucks and then had a bit of self reflection, still are edgy but in a much more mature and way funnier way. It’s almost some sort of spiritual journey - I’ve recognized it in friends AND creators and they all developed into some of my favorite people on earth.
@@urheehoo hahaha good description. I blanked for a sec and thought you meant people who he generally interacts with… totally forgot he used to be a drama based edgy “man-show” style creator. Great fkin example! Another one is Arin Hanson (Egoraptor). He wasn’t completely an edgelord, but he really used to be a judgemental egotistical asshole. I mean I guess he recognized it, considering the “ego“ of Egoraptor, but he was unashamed and shitty to some people waaay back in his early fame/animating days. Eventually really self-reflected, grew, and became so much funnier and friendlier… instead of taking people down, he’s been propping up other creators, started Real Good Touring, etc. There will always be people who disagree, and miss more cursing and edginess and think GG is worse… i guess i can’t blame people getting stuck wishing it “was like it used to be” but to me his growth is such a huge gain, he cracks me up sooo much these days. And yeah it just doesn’t require being an asshole. When he has talked about it, it’s actually really damn interesting. All fueled by self-reflection, maturity, empathy… all just part of growing the fk up lol
right a unanimous self reflection all these content creators had, not at all because of mass demonetization and silence of unpopular opinions and jokes
As someone who had a chokehold on filthyfrank, idubbbz, maxmoefoe, etc. Seeing all of them grown and going into different directions is so surreal. We will always remember the golden age of yt, such a big part of my childhood.
Max and Chad haven't changed directions very much from the filthyfrank videos I've seen (I wasn't watching them individually when FilthyFrank was still up)
I loved idubz as a preteen-teen. his edgier content definitely (to me) mirrored how I felt about myself. I was extremely insecure. im 19 now and still insecure in some ways but I have changed so much. It was so nice to see Idubz content change and reflect this change I've been going through as well. Lots of childhood trauma recovering
It’s cool in general to see any public figure change over the years, and how their content changes with them Some people just don’t grow y’know? So it’s always cool to witness the ones who do
as bad as this sounds, Idubbbz made an insecure teen like me to open up and have some great friendships to this day. But we've matured quite abit since then
Yeah I say alot of jokes that are (in my mind) clearly meant to be lighthearted and not taken seriously, but some people actually say things like that in 100% sincerity.

It’s very interesting to see two youtubers who very much defined their respective eras (and the childhoods of many people) coming together to show how much they’ve grown.
Extreme cringe when people hate on him for growing up and say stuff like "Everyone my age is so sensitive now". Kids like extreme edge because they lack empathy. We gain empathy as we grow and are exposed to others. Being almost 30 and liking the same edgy shit you did as a kid is just sad. This "never grow up cause it's SJW" is why we have grown adults who make being mean and immature their personality. Like the grown men who called Idubz a beta male cuck cause of his girlfriend. I can't imagine being an adult and unironically saying "beta male cuck".

@@SandFlyFood what I mean is no emotion is inherently negative, because there’s a reason behind feeling it. If you feel anger, it’s because your mind knew something around you needed to spark that emotion. All emotions are felt for a reason, it’s something I learned in therapy, which is why it’s important when you feel upset, to not see it as a negative reaction, or else you may not want to actually feel it when in reality it’s important to, just like it’s important to feel happiness.
I love seeing these creators doing what they love and finding success in a new direction. Feels like seeing peers grow and change and you feel happy for them. 22:32 I made the same realization about myself last night. I just turned 35 and this started happening maybe a year ago. Whereas previously in my younger years it was damn near impossible for me to cry. I think I shed a single tear when I broke my arm and while watching "Click!", after reaching adulthood. I just assumed it was from getting lime juice in my eyes nearly every time I make a smoothie, but a more developed sense of empathy and vulnerability also seems plausible.
This was an amazing conversation that I never expected, but really appreciate. I'm happy to see who iDubbbz has become, and love seeing the dude appear to be more comfortable in his own skin.
I came to this video because I saw a clip from this and most of the comments were accusing iddubz of being a hypocrite, and I had to come check to see if they were making an accurate assessment. I don't see idubbz as being hypocritical here, I see him as more embarrassed. When you've done deeply regrettable things and make it to a point where you can understand what was wrong with those things, the fear of people learning about it can get much stronger, because now it's not just about people being mad at you, it's knowing that people are mad at you for something you genuinely did wrong. In idubbz's case he's a well known content creator so his mistakes are very public knowledge. He knows he can just gesture towards it and it gets the message across. As for him using the edgy humor ironically while others didn't, I don't see that as hypocritical as much as an explanation for why he made the bad decisions he did. I remember making edgy jokes as a late teen and there was a feeling that I knew the joke is that it's obviously wrong, and so if other people are laughing it's because they know too. This isn't really the case, some people laugh at these jokes because they're cruel and enjoy cruelty. Pointing this out isn't a sign that what I did was okay, it's explaining the logical missteps that led me to that belief.
iDUBZZ had gone through so much in his own life, and yet he continues to strive for the absolute best. We wish him nothing but blessings to come his way.

The amount of times this man credited his partner, acknowledged her significance to his career and growth, and just in general included her name in the conversation is so refreshing and perspective changing. It’s clear after listening to Ian in this interview his wife is a talented and extraordinary person that really brings so much to their partnership. This video is really relatable to me right now. Ive been dealing with problems feeling too vulnerable around others. Making videos and getting millions of people watching surely doesnt make it easier for you and Idubbbz. I learned its just ok to feel like if youre truthful and admit your faults and are able to move on with them, youre in the right. If someone makes fun of you afterwards, then theyre in the wrong. I think genuine people love when people are vulnerable and open with people, we love seeing honest emotions about how you feel.
This and the Creator Clash have really regained my respect for iDubbbz. I used to watch his early stuff but I outgrew it pretty quick and began to dislike that type of cynical, hyper ironic content. It works when you’re still young and edgy, but as you mature, you start to yearn for something real, sincere, meaningful. And I can see Ian has gone through that same process and has turned into a more thoughtful, mature person that I can root for again. He is putting himself out there for real this time and is willing fo be vulnerable, which tends to pay off since it speaks to a whole new audience (or the same audience who have just grown up). Kinda like how Joij went from Filthy Frank to just being himself. Or Pewdiepie’s change in content. This was a great, introspective interview!

His confidence 100% boosted after seeing he could get away with it. So he started doing more. The two statements aren’t mutually exclusive. His unchecked ego was a huge factor in the stuff he’s said. (Not defending him I wasn’t a fan of him bc of said ego and behavior)
Wether you wanna see him as matured or castrated, I can tell he's still just as confident and passionate about the content he produces as he always has been, and I'm very excited to see where he goes
Don't get to excited. I wish the best for the guy I really do. But no one makes his life choices without getting burned. My only question is will he enter his villain arc after the inevitable burn? I doubt it but that would be fun. He will either double down or revert when he catches his wife getting gangbanged or something. Humans always choose between double down/revert upon being hit with past bad decisions.
@@SandFlyFood I think for the most part he's matured past "going back to a villain arc". Even if he broke up with his girlfriend, I still don't think he enjoys the stuff he used to make nearly as much as his newer stuff, and the opportunities he gets with his new persona are far greater then him getting angsty or edgy when what you believe "shit hits the fan". The only way he HAS got burned recently is acting less controversially & opening supporting his gfs only fans, which definitely did not sit well with the majority of his audience (so I applaud it for the most part), so really the greatest opportunity he had to go through a full "villain arc" already passed with the whole Sam Hyde thing, where he became a villain to nearly his entire fanbase Most of that is overblown by his viewers though, and I still don't think is has any really reflection on his mentality outside of his immediate actions. I believe Idubbbz is in the most comfortable spot in his career at the moment, not needing to worry about pandering to far to any side of his fanbase to make an income & doing far grander projects then he could ever imagine doing his bad unboxings or content cops.
@@SandFlyFood Jesus Christ, all she has is an onlyfans. This is why he hates his fanbase, it breeds sexist creeps who leave really wierd comments like you.
Honestly, it’s nice seeing Ian’s Growth. Dude’s been in a lot of stuff and he’s just nice to see him just chillin’. Creator Clash is honestly the best thing he’s created.
Having to turn off emotion and dodge the landmines that were my psycho father's fits of rage gave me tons to work through. It's been explained to me that my brain learned to block anything upsetting out, so I will forget things that are important like taking my son to the dentist because I worry about him so much having to deal shit that sucks & makes him cry. (Thankfully I have a super epic husband/Dad to my boy who doesn't mind sending me reminders every day) I also have anxiety so I worry all the time, so my life got really hard. It's getting better but its only drastically changed within the past few years. I'm 28, ran away when I was 13. It took me about 10 minutes to write this because remembering got my head into the fuzzy state.
Reminder that Ian was 26 when he made those videos, not a "Young goofball" of sorts. With this hindsight, some of the stuff becomes pretty... Bad. Edit: beautania in this thread below actually brought a fair point to the discussion. If you want a piece of mind from someone that arrived to a different conclusion on Ian's maturity, check this out.
This just in: once you are 25 you are never allowed to say anything that ages badly ever. How do you know something will age badly you ask? Next question!
@@beautania its because he was far from being a teen anymore. plus his audience was made up of kids (me included) who would just copy his actions. saying slurs was and will always be bad. not really something you have to guess on
@@beautania You're purposefully missing the point. The point isn't "People of 26 years old aren't allowed to make mistakes of any forms with any kind of hindsight", but "Ian saying that he grew up and that he was immature" sounds really deaf. It's something I would hear from an adult referring to him punching a teacher when they were seventeen or eighteen. Besides, I myself am aware, even at 24, that I can say things and do some minor form of comedy without being offensive towards a minority, so...
@@karkador I disagree with this comment on many points but am more interested in delving into the original commenters statement so forgive this replys lack of nuance. However, in the Content Cop era his age demographics were 15-25 which is not really kids. Additionally, slurs are not set in stone and are ever evolving along with all of language. Stating 'saying slurs will always be bad' is a reductive statement void of any dialectic nuance and disallows healthy growth.
I understand when people hold animosity towards ian or creators like him, even though I've put hope in him going in a better direction. I didn't like the person I was when I was consuming his content in 2017 and what stupid morals it gave me. I could blame him for that but he acknowledges he was literally attracting and fostering those types of people and wanted to turn away from it, and he grew with his audience. glad that there's some learning to be done from it all, in a way
God damn Ian seems like he’s actually a really kind and cool person. Was not expecting to see this side of him, especially after a lot of the stuff on his past
Honestly very sweet of Ian to mention how reassuring and together his partner has been with him. Truly being a bit of the backbone she has been for him is very sweet. This interview was intriguing hope Anthony brings more people that are painted as controversial online. You don't truly know a person online only just what they post and how they perceive themselves.

I used to knew someone who was obsessed with idubbz and the cynical humour. So glad he's being more earnest and that I could learn more about him
Luckily when most people get older they stop trying to be an edge lord. Maturing is a cool thing.
imo idubbbz overexaggerated how cynical his humor was. He would rip into people in his content cop videos sure but that was the theme of that whole video. I think a lot of the fans get it twisted and try to emulate the cynicism to a higher degree making him look more cynical in the process.
@@DecayedPony I also think many of the fans who were into the edgy/cynical humor have also grown out of it, including myself
@@basedboi3956 I'd hope so, considering a lot of that content was 6-7 years ago, and people old enough to understand or be able to laugh at the humor were between 13-16 years old at the time.
i used to love that shit but i feel like me and hopefully a lot of other fans grew as he did and are now more normal humans lmao
🤓
Well put dude. I really like what youve said here. I relate
exactly what i was thinking
Idubbbz was well into his 20's what are you even on about.

He has matured so much and he really is soooo underrated. I wish him all the best in life❤
I came to this video because I saw a clip from this and most of the comments were accusing iddubz of being a hypocrite, and I had to come check to see if they were making an accurate assessment.

@@SandFlyFood I think for the most part he's matured past "going back to a villain arc". The only way he HAS got burned recently is acting less controversially & opening supporting his gfs only fans, which definitely did not sit well with the majority of his audience (so I applaud it for the most part), so really the greatest opportunity he had to go through a full "villain arc" already passed with the whole Sam Hyde thing, where he became a villain to nearly his entire fanbase
