  • -History:
Ketelbinkie is a dutch sailor/folk song about a cabin boy passing away on his first time on sea. The actual song is based on the memories the writer made when he was young, except for the end where the cabin boy passes away ofcourse. The song became pretty well known in the Netherlands at the time. So much that it earned a statue in Rotterdam.
There are many refrences made in the song to old habbits. For instance in dutch "schoot-an" is not just some drink. In rough lines, it's a gin made with a recipe from the VOC. Schoot-an was also traditionally drank in a mug and kept on being a thing for sailors in later years.
