Bits of them. I'm sure Lucas's ideas needed polish, but they likely would have been a coherent story. The New Republic fighting organized crime was a solid idea. Resurrecting Maul was a terrible idea. Arguably worse than bringing back Palpatine, though I think he could have been easily been replaced by Maul's son or a granddaughter, which would work fine. I would have loved to see the Whills. They're a long running part of the lore which has been teased since the first novelization but never really explored. The most baffling thing was not letting Luke establish a small New Jedi Order, which would move the story forward naturally *and* create an easy point for inserting diverse new characters. Finn leading a Stormtrooper Rebellion should have happened.
The prequels weren't all bad. As much as I hated Episodes I & II, I loved Episode III and it was worthy of the epic space opera that was the Original Trilogy. The sequels were a horrible and disjointed mess. Episode IX was even worse than Episodes I & II. George Lucas may lack discernment and good taste at times, but at least his worst films actually have structure and have coherence. So yea, I would have rather have George Lucas' version of the sequel trilogy. At least with that, we wouldn't have had "Somehow Palpatine returned".
And thus, George's vision of 7-8-9 being about Leia, the daughter, were destroyed. A bit of a bastardisation of the concept of family when Rey delcared herself a Skywalker when she is the LEAST deserving of the name.
Most interesting part about this to me was Lucas asking about Vader's grandchildren in plural. If they weren't going to do Lucas's scripts, they should have given us Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin back. Pave over the New Jedi Order, give Luke and Mara a daughter and let her be the center of a new trilogy.
It does seem like it was headed in that direction. One source had Darth Talon turning "Sam" Solo to the dark side while "Kira" trains with luke, which sounds a lot like the Lumiya, Jacen and Jaina dynamic. There was certainly a lot for Lucas to pull from, and he could just ignore what he didn't care for.
@@PyramidPeakhot take: I never liked one of Vader grandkids falling to the dark side. It’s soooo been there, done that. We just had a whole prequel trilogy about a Skywalker being seduced. Sequel Trilogy should’ve just been the anti prequels. Whatever the prequel era republic and Jedi order failed at the New Republic and Jedi Order will succeed in. The newly established institutions(by the OGs) should’ve successfully fought off the new threats, and proved that they will stand for another thousand years. Also the new trio should’ve been the solo twins(Rey, Kylo) and Jagged Fel(Finn) and maybe introduce a Tenel Ka type character in a sequel for the love interest for the son. Maul being the villain is stupid. It should be a former student of Luke who wants to be the next Emperor out of inspiration, and power, or a clone of The Emperor who doesn’t have his consciousness. That way the theme of legacy is on both sides.

No matter your opinion of the film itself, the release of TLJ was where things went wrong - whether because of the quality of the film itself, or more accurately, Disney-LucasFilm’s reaction to the backlash, the execs were just too feckless to weather the storm and stick to their guns. Mainly because they weren’t packing in the first place. Of the genuine creatives they’d tapped on the shoulder, only Rian Johnson was able to get HIS movie made. Arndt, Lord & Miller, and even Gareth Edwards had their projects wrested from them. TLJ has more in common with original Lucas-era Star Wars because it is messy and idiosyncratic and not bound to the slavish reverentialism of Abrams’ movies and the fan idea of what the IP should be. It helped lift the curtain on the illusion that Star Wars should continue just because someone else owned the keys and COULD continue it. Three projects have been worthwhile since TLJ: Mando S1, Andor, and Visions. (And Skeleton Crew is shaping up nicely, if inoffensively, as well.) Let’s hope the studio takes notes from those projects, which have been received strongly by CRITICS and not just audiences on where to take the IP next.
the one thing that i loved about Disney screwing up star wars was that it let people look back on the prequels and realizes that they honestly were not that bad and how we really should have appreciated George being that star wars was his creation and he could do whatever he wanted with it. and honestly having something different and new is so much better then the crap Disney made, i remember watching the force awakens and not liking it, i told people "its just a new hope in a different font" but no one wanted to listen to me, but I'm glad people can clearly see it now.

The first draft sounded pretty good tbh and they should have let Michael Arendt cook. He didn't win an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine by rushjobbing it! Also, Dual of the Fates would have been way better than Ep9 and brought it to a decent conclusion.
I always thought the sequel storyline came off like a game of Mad Libs played between argumentative siblings in very different moods during a road trip. Makes sense, since they didn't actually plan it out and discordant directors undid and reversed thematic directions between the movies... Truly bonkers how this can happen with even the largest franchise ever.
In all of the counter factuals, and alternate versions, one thing is clear: No matter what happened, the EU was going to be even more cooked than it already had been by Clone Wars. George’s idea for VII is neat, but as a Legacy fan the notion of “Talon” even being a character has always cracked me up. Only about…100 years away from where she was 😂 I think eventually all these drafts should be published as official comics or novelizations, just to have the stories out there.
This was amazing video, unfortunately it showed me that this trilogy, and Star Wars, was always doomed from the start. The only thing the higher ups care about is money… sad.
J.J. wanted to highlight the idea that anyone could use the Force. Ryan Johnson executed this idea with TLJ. But it makes the most sense to have the final trilogy in the Skywalker Saga be about the Skywalkers, with Leia and Anakin's grandchildren. Thematically, that could work. But I guess they lacked the foresight or vision to utilize that idea. P. S. I find it hilarious that Lucasfilm produced the first SW bomb. While Phil Lord & Christopher Miller went on to make _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse._
I actually enjoyed the sequels a lot, even though I see their issues: repeating the original trilogy, instead of truly doing something new, not getting the filmmakers to map out the trilogy in the beginning, not taking enough time and rushing the process. But still I liked the new characters, the beautiful cinematography and having one more big adventure in this galaxy, even if I would have preferred seeing Lucas‘ vision actually completed. I believe in a few years people will come around to this trilogy as well. Ultimately why did they decide to jettison Lucas‘ ideas? Because of the fan vitriol. Now the fans shown in the video are not the majority of them, but they are the public image we‘ve gotten. Entitled pricks who have no real idea of Star Wars, filmmaking, Art or even what they actually want. And that’s sad, that’s the problem.
