One of my favorite Tool songs. Love these lyrics.. "Credulous at best Your desire to believe in Angels in the hearts of men Pull your head out of your hippie haze And give a listen Shouldn't have to say it all again The universe is hostile, so impersonal Devour to survive, so it is So it's always been... Sing to the death rattle La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie This song will always stand the test of time.
I vividly remember the day this came out in 2006. Went to pick it up at Sam Goody, popped in the CD leaving the parking lot, was headed home, but ended up driving around until I finished the album. That intro on Vicarious, the first track of the album, instantly grabbed me. Wish I could have that first listen back.
I love watching Tool take hold of someone. It’s truly a beautiful sight! There is a Tool song for every moment in life I have come to find....greatest band of all time, by a considerable margin from where I sit
I have listened to this song so many times over the years, and yet i still burst out laughing at the end every time just like you did. It is just ridiculous. Is there a better ending crescendo band out there?
Dean Wolfe, nice one man, great ride. Enjoyed it, TOOL says, “Mr. Wolfe, you’re coming with us.” Best never to resist, that’s how people get hurt when doing TOOL. 👍🏼👍🏼
At age 51 I still havent finished Tool. The songs keep you so occupied that usually my song recruitment happens accidently...like maybe listening to a reaction to a song i haven't heard yet and about the third time when I say to myself "Oh, shit..." because by then I realize it's about to be one of thousands of times the song's fixing to get listened to. Just with what is there and what's left that I haven't got to or haven't heard more than once or twice yet the rest should last me the rest of my life.
Just wonderful to see this reaction! I remember the first time i listened to it. Driving around with a good friend. So hungry for new Tool that we actually had doubts it was the real thing (it had leaked and we did sin downloading it (sorry Tool, but the wait was just too long)), anyway, what ever doubts we had were blown away as the song progressed. The ending is pure FIRE, but the song as a whole is just beautiful. Try to imagine this song played acoustic as a ballade. Anyway; check out the video, inspired by the art of the amazing Alex Grey. Trippy as F...
Love your reactions man. Tool does that to me too. They are so primal and intricate. The band is really a rhythm section. They just get into your DNA. When I put my headphones on and close my eyes. I see ziggaruts being built. They're on another level.
5:08 funny you mention the snappy drum sounds. Danny was reluctant to work with Joe Baressi, who Adam wanted to produce their last two albums. In the end he said he got some of his favorite drum sounds working with him.
Seeing your reaction remembered me my own one back in 2006, listening "the new Tool single première" in a local radio station. It was pretty similar, hahaha. That first-time feeling... :')
If there’s one regret I have about listening to tool, it’s how fast I listening to all their songs, wish I could forget about some of my favorite entertainments just to relive them
Hey Dean. Been loving your videos. I love prog songs that are song 1 on an album and really set the stage. This song does just that. I’d like to request No Other Way by Cog. Also a track 1. I requested Cog a little while ago when you did Karnivool. They’re Australian and a brilliant Prog band.
Tool is truly the most epic band of modern times. They have followed in the footsteps of all those great 70s prog rock bands you mentioned -- you forgot Pink Floyd! -- but they truly have no equal right now. They are perfection. :) I was lucky enough to see them just before the lockdown on their Fear Inoculum tour. PLEASE react to Fear Inoculum (the song). Would love to see you jam to that lol and hear your thoughts on it.
Had a space cake or two before the video man?😜 Lol just kiddin. Yes this song is about how human beings take joy in other peoples misery or entertained so to speak
I went the opposite of you when it came to prog. I was listening to the heavier bands first and then it began to trickle down into the earlier prog rock stuff.
I hope one day you can do rammstein reactions. it's hard to react to the studio versions for a reaction cuz of copyright claims but maybe you could get away with a couple. their best known for their live performances though. they're just very underrated to me.

It's not every day that you hear a song in 5/4 time with such a perfect groove. In fact it's not often you hear anything in 5/4!
One of my favorite Tool songs. Love these lyrics..

These are my favorite lyrics too
TOOL IS FOREVER!!
You don't have to be sad about running out of new Tool songs because they just get better the more you listen to them.
That weeze after it ended 😂 I know the feeling
I vividly remember the day this came out in 2006. Went to pick it up at Sam Goody, popped in the CD leaving the parking lot, was headed home, but ended up driving around until I finished the album. Bet it was a nice car stereo
Dean Wolfe Haha. It’s wasn’t half bad. This type of music sounded great for sure
Same except for me it was Best Buy! And I don’t think I ever left the parking lot. This maybe the last physical album I ever bought.
Every damn time, when the whole band kicks in, my hair on my neck just stands up and then this chill just rushes all the way down to my toes.
Then goes even further for me in the next couple bars
I honestly think that they will be known as one of the best rock bands in history! Their music is off the charts intricate and precise.
Already are
I love watching Tool take hold of someone. It’s truly a beautiful sight! There is a Tool song for every moment in life I have come to find....greatest band of all time, by a considerable margin from where I sit
7:52 on...pure catharsis.
😂 I laugh my ass off after every tool song too ! Just out of pure awe!!
I have listened to this song so many times over the years, and yet i still burst out laughing at the end every time just like you did. It is just ridiculous. Is there a better ending crescendo band out there?
Will never forget the first reaction I saw from you - Lateralus track - looking forward to this one as well.
Some times tears, some times a belly laugh because it's so amazingly great
Dean Wolfe, nice one man, great ride. Enjoyed it, TOOL says, “Mr. Wolfe, you’re coming with us.” Best never to resist, that’s how people get hurt when doing TOOL. 👍🏼👍🏼

recording of this track was perfect
I Can’t believe you’ve never reacted to this! We need you to do Culling Voices off of Fear Inoculum. It’s extremely underrated
Just wonderful to see this reaction! I remember the first time i listened to it. Driving around with a good friend. Right in two
I remember distinctly my mind being blown when I first heard this. I'm still picking up my grey matter. 😂
5:08 funny you mention the snappy drum sounds. Danny was reluctant to work with Joe Baressi, who Adam wanted to produce their last two albums. In the end he said he got some of his favorite drum sounds working with him.
Was very happy they played this when I saw the FI tour.
What more can be said? Almost everything they create is amazing.
Seeing your reaction remembered me my own one back in 2006, listening "the new Tool single première" in a local radio station. It was pretty similar, hahaha.
That first-time feeling... :')
Awesome you are putting Tool with the greats :)
If there’s one regret I have about listening to tool, it’s how fast I listening to all their songs, wish I could forget about some of my favorite entertainments just to relive them
Mr Sharky definitely approves
the knife cutting guitar work is sick
good description

Great reaction Dean
Thanks Anthony
Vicarious is my favorite Tool song.
More Soen reactions, please.
I'd suggest Slithering (Live).
I have been waiting for this :)))
Great video thanks! :)
Dear Dean, you have to hear "Culling Voices", you will love for sure, it's the most beautiful song of the album, in my opinion of course.
Will likely do so this week
Had a space cake or two before the video man?😜 Lol just kiddin. Yes this song is about how human beings take joy in other peoples misery or entertained so to speak
I went the opposite of you when it came to prog. I was listening to the heavier bands first and then it began to trickle down into the earlier prog rock stuff.
Vicarious and Dean = F*** yes!
0 dislikes. Exactly how it should be
What about Invincible? I must have missed your reaction to it.

Devour to survive
I wish people would react to the live version of HWAP
hmm. I'll be doing the studio version very soon. I'll add that to the list
I hope one day you can do rammstein reactions. it's hard to react to the studio versions for a reaction cuz of copyright claims but maybe you could get away with a couple. their best known for their live performances though. they're just very underrated to me.
