Thank you!! T.T
Thanks....
Thank you 😊
My daughter first introduced me to Porcupine Tree about 10/12 years ago. Nothing remarkable about this you might think, except that she was 13 or 14 years old at the time. She was also into Opeth, System Of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the like. She encouraged me to check them all out (i'm a very old boy who has been into music since the 50s) and I'm glad that I did. Great Music! She is a huge Steven Wilson fan and so am I now.
Your daughter has a great taste, so do you. :)
great parenting, sir!
You're clearly doing something right. Rock on
Also digging this. My son is 40 years younger, listening for the first time today. Thanks, Sam!
Something tells me you raised your kid right
I found Porcupine Tree by accident. I worked for a company in 2003 that emptied movie and tv studios vaults of all old beta digi max 3/4 tape and repurpose recycle and toss them along with random vhs and CD. I found the CD in a pile of random stuff and thought Porcupine Tree? Odd, lets give that a listen. I took it home and played it. Holy Fucking Shit!!! A Diamond in the rough.❤️😍
One of the greatest album. Makes me cry everytime im listening. The melodies ....oh my god 💕🎶
A taxi driver a few days ago told me about Porkupine tree and spoke highly of it so I checked it out. Must say, I was not disappointed!
He must have found the mastertape
WOW I just found Porcupine Tree. The good news is I am getting time to spend with a new friend.
😢
Where has this band BEEN all my life?!?!?!😢
In absentia lol

over 2 decades for me...still in love with their music
@@tomas_horn 25 years here
Yep, they're good indeed!
Amen 🙏
Sadly , most wouldn't appreciate their gift .
I can't beleive I never listened to this band until now. This is just smooth, well-crafted, pretty, heavy, folky, progressive, sparkling, music. Too many influences and textures to try and deconstruct, but the end product cannot be denied. Pure pleasure through music.
I know that feeling bro 🥰
You must listen other Wilson's works. This is a whole world of music. 3 months ago I knew nothing about him. To my shame... But discover such things so amazing!
tres grand groupe. ecouter aussi DEADWING
We all did the same thing but hey what a journey ahead discovering porcupine tree an Awesome beautiful musical discovery ❤❤❤❤❤

I’m listening this album from the first time today….
Wonderful!!!!
You are a lucky soul as I was ❤️👌🏻
And me, now ...
this is one recording you never come to listen to just one song
If you don't listen from start to finish
You are missing a big something
Lips of ashes is a masterpiece.
Over 'Prodigal'? Not for me, but we won't argue! ;-)
Lips of Ashes and Gravity Eyelids are the album highlights for me ❤️
@@schpleeb Finally someone mentions Gravity Eyelids! Underappreciated song on this album.
The atmosphere and that solo are haunting
GREATEST band ever the United States never knew about....
I can't believe that I've just discovered this amazing album

@@dylansantos5958 + ! just discovered
Never heard of them til a few weeks ago. Thought this was a new band. Pisses me off that I missed that last 20 years of this great music.
Almost 60... Stumbled upon this album and this band 10 yrs after the fact. Still blows me away with every listen.
Me too, 63 this month. Got tickets for Wembley in November. Listening to Absentia now.
@@simonsaxton6516 I'm 71 . Ill health precludes me from going . Aaaaargh !!
@@simonsaxton6516 Got tickets for Wembley too. I'll wave to you you!
63 this year and I have always had a love for Prog rock all my life and was nearly convinced that modern bands just couldn't do prog right. I was proved wrong with the likes of Porcupine tree, Spocks beard, Marillion and one of my favorites Transatlantic. I love to put the headphones on and just get taken away by the music.
Cant believe I have somehow not known about this band till very recently. Turning 60 this month and it feels weird to be excited about a band again.
One of ten Masterpieces albums of this band.
this album is 18 years old today. a masterpiece
this album is 19 years old today. a masterpiece
@ cool, isn't it . My dear dad would love this .
20 years old 😱
That means it now must go on and be a responsible adult
This is the very first time I've even heard of Porcupine Tree.
I'm 55... listened to a lot of different music in my life, and I'm really, really enjoying this.
I hear so many different influences in this well-crafted music.
Just incredible...!!!
you're in for a heck of a good ride sir! Their catalog is FULL of awesome songs!! Welcome to the party! :)
What an absolutely cracking album. Steven Wilson, total legend
Excellent. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.
Steven Wilson - Gesang, Gitarre
Richard Barbieri - Keyboard, Syntheziser
Colin Edwin - Bass
Gavin Harrison - Drums
i miss this band so much, even too late to know it.
never too late bro...enjoy :D

Is my first too, and i love it
Yo ya perdí la cuenta de las veces que lo he escuchado y sólo sé que cada vez me gusta más
I've never heard this album before, but I love their Deadwing album.
Same. I just want to lay in my bed with someone besides me. Just beeing there and listening together
Holy Jeebus how have a never heard these dudes man 👌🏻💯.. absolutely class
Im 347 years old, and i like music, so its crazy and stuff
20 years later and still one of the best Porcupine Tree albums ever
Imagine the others
One of the best albums ever.
Erfan Caulfield I couldn’t disagree more, they are one of the best Prog bands of all time
Obviously.
@@erfan487 I think it's a bit shallow to criticize the production level of a band that has never even gone mainstream. A decent musical critique would look past the production quality and dwelve into songwriting, composition and performance.
@Nathan Guerrette dit Latulippe I agree with thay
@@starlyghtdrifter66 Actually this album has perfect production in my opinion. The drums sound so fucking clear
lips of ashes forever in my heart....................
We had to pick one album for colleagues to listen to for social distancing - I used this one...
One gets stuck with a set of bands and fails to explore at times. Thanks to YT recomendations , finally found the time to listen PT /SW at the ripe old age of 64...lol better late than never
.
Yeahhh Sir! 🤘🤗
Do check out Opeth too!
Try Pendragon as well and Liquid Tension Experiment!
It took me until 37.
I found a cool t-shirt in my colocation, my housemates didn't know where it come from and say that I can keep it. It was written "Porcupine Tree In Absentia" on it, and here I am
It was planted there by the universe to guide you to this stunning album. 😉
It was 2002. 21 years ago. I knew early works of Porcupine tree. And then… In absentia. Everything changend. Beautiful music.
This is one of the best albums by a band that I have ever heard. Seriously.
I don't think this will ever reach anyone but i gotta throw this bottle to the sea
I used to search for album videos to listen to while i was playing games with my friends, and walked upon this exact video around 3 years ago. Never heard of Porcupine Tree before, now they're my favorite band. Thanks for uploading this masterpiece
One of the greatest albums in the music history !!
Have you listened to their album " Blackfield" when they were using the name BLACKFIELD, they also record under the name of NOSOUND, and maybe under others too :-))
Well then, I had waited to listen to Porcupine Tree until today. As an Opeth fan, I felt super nostalgic with a side of deja vu. So far this feels like if Damnation and Blackwater Park were merged into one super album. I'm happy.
Every track is amazing. Especially that second one. Just *chefs kiss
As a 64 year old woman who loves music, I'm a first time listener to this, and I loved the whole thing. added to my playlists. Fabulous!
June 17th, 2021, Mexico City, never heard from them before, I am enjoining a lot. Thank you Progressive Vinyl!!!
"Blackest Eyes" seems to find its way onto my car cd player with striking regularity, and at considerable volume.

SW is one of the best. Amazing album
October 7, Santiago, Chile. FINALLY!!!...and its the only South American show.
This album is really worthy of the title 'In Absentia'. It feels so profound, it encapsulates a sort of ephemeral beauty that you feel in moments that you live forever yearning to experience again.

The last track is simply stunning.
One of the greatest British bands of the last 20 years

listening to this while writing a story, fantastic experience
Heart Attack in a Layby IMO is one the saddest things yet so beautiful. Not having happily ever after cus you went for a drive after a fight with your wife and died of a heart attack on the side of the road thinking of the things you wish you had time to say but can't make it back to say them... so sad :(
totally agree (heart)
Steven Wilson is one of the modern geniuses
im not sure
He ticks all the 'right' boxes , so.....yes .
On one hand he did RTRtS, on the other he did Future Bites... Can't really tell.
One of the most underrated artist in my opinion.
He is undoubtedly a true polymath and auto-didactic master of many musical instruments. Thanks to his prodigious talents we reap the musical rewards of his 5 decades in music & now print.
It was 2002 or 2004 when I was surfing Napster and came and found this band. Since spent, thousands of euros for their exsitence.
What a masterpiece
The Creator has a Masterpiece
Can only agree with you both.

@@ricardorojas7061 bruh I'm crying like a bitch after the Steven Wilson. Dios mio. Thanks for that.
Porcupine Tree is more than a reflection of an era. It is a phantom asteroid who returns to set his sights on sound art. A decadent wave laden with paradoxes from which obscurantism and the irrational escape, hypnotic factors defying vulnerable souls in search of the absolute. This sound architecture is a short tunnel that leads to light !
That transition from Gravity Eyelids to Wedding Nails... exquisite.
Fantastic.
It's impossible to stop listening to it... wonderful! How could I never have heard of this band before? I wanna learn more about this quality of sound!
Innovative and inspiring, this album is one of the greatest of all times

Absolutely!!!
Gavin is SOOOO brilliant...he can play anything, unlimited chops and complexity, but it ALWAYS FITS!! He never overplays or shows off. Yup, he's an absolute pleasure to listen to.😉
This was a slow burner for me, but now its an uncontrollable fire. Just love it.
First time I hear this and my gosh... I wonder why I've never heard it before? This is nothing short of musical genius, power and beauty.
A friend said here listen to this and gave me a CD. When he asked what I thought of it I couldn't even describe how blown away I was. I'm 53 own hundred of records, cd and have 4000 songs on my ipod and had never heard anything like this.
Never is late
Howie go listen to their album called "Metanoia". It's an older album and a little bit experimental but if you listen to the whole thing in one setting it's like a cosmic dream. Also "Moonloop" is a good one.
PT is musics best-kept secrets. Just to let you know Steve Wilson has 5
solo studio LP after PT went on hiatus or ended however you look at it.
The man never stops making great music. Wilson is about 51yo as well.
Says he was born in 67 in a song.
Wilson has made the saddest song ever. "The Raven that Refused to Sing". I doubt anyone can get thru it 3 times without losing it. I can no longer listen to it, I just tried. Please don't make me.
waveoflight Certainly you have good taste about smart music, indeed Wilson is such a creative force, such prolific artist, always creatin, always delivering, no pretentions, no bs, these guys let their art do the talkin!! Enjoy!! So good to be alive because of this material for us rock lovers
@@waveoflight I saw him front row at Royal Festival Hall on that tour. Tears ensued...
one of the bests albums ever!
amazing
A mother sings a lullaby to a child
Sometime in the future the boy goes wild
And all his nerves are feeling some kind of energy
A walk in the woods and I will try
Something under the trees that made you cry
It's so erotic when your make up runs
I got wiring loose inside my head
I got books that I never ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
Swim with me into your blackest eyes
A few minutes with me inside my van
Should be so beautiful if we can
I'm feeling something taking over me
Love this band, and Riverside.. This genre has no bounds for me.

Couldn't really finish listening to this. I kept repeating the last two songs over and over. Masterpiece........
Hahaha all is fabolous
The first time I heard this band was the first time I tripped on mushrooms. Most definitely an extremely memorable experience.
Nearly 45 years since I had 'fungi' , but I've got some idea . 'They' say I'm a fun guy too . Oh no . Sorry
Listening to these masterful musicians more and more. Got to make the best of this shite year.
Always foreva enjoy this one eth the escape from heavy grind
Tonight, my complete outlook on life was changed forevermore because I got to hear PT for the first time. Yes, this music is all I am going to need for the next chapter of my existence in the galaxy. Rebirth. Amen.
I heard PT when Steven Wilson started out, then I sort of overlooked future albums,I've since caught up & bought all the albums. Then while arranging a trip to Manchester I noticed that PT had reformed for what could be the last time they tour & they were playing in Castlefield Bowl Manchester,my son bought me a ticket & I got to see them for the first time, I wanted to remember this momentous occasion of this event so I took my small Zoom HD digital recorder and recorded some great moments which are on my channel including 3 tracks from this album, (put on the headphones or put in the earbuds for best sound & live the pure joy I had on this occasion,if you like it please subscribe. There's more bands/genres/venues to check out).
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all.

Got into PT after listening to Gazpacho. Similar vibe just great music, put the headphones on and drift away
I love your username so much. 🤣
My bro just introduced these guys to me...as a senior who loves Pink Floyd, tool and many classic proggy bands, love them!
Listened when I was 13. 16 years have passed and they still sound good to my ears.
I remember the cover of this album standing out amongst the row of sample listen CD's at Virgin Records in downtown Newport Beach when it first came out. Such a great album. Was worth the purchase then, & is still a fantastic listen through now almost 20 years later.
Sure, it takes great writing to be able to produce music like this, but I think what's often overlooked is how well great musicians such as these, have an ability to genuinely LISTEN to good music !! Writing is important but listening is even more!
Hard to pick a favourite from an album that has litarally not one weak song . But if I have to, it would be The Sound of Muzak. There is something magical happening in the chorus, the harmonies and melody is haunting, in a good way.
