Mike Luke to be honest if it a set that looks like yours I could definitely see myself playing a e kit one day. They older I get the more I see a use for them. For recording purposes.
Hey Michael. Yes, that's the benefit I see, too. For me, it was quiet clear that I need "real" sizes to feel comfortable when playing. Speaking of recording, you can hardly beat the combination of e drums and using samples as common guys like us won't ever record in those multi-million dollar studios like the samples were recorded. If you need help and advice building such a kit, let me know.
Great video. You answered my questions about these cymbals. I like the look but it will be too loud and noticeable for my church. I wish they made the bottom look similar to the top for better aesthetics but I understand it may not have been possible for some reason.

I ended up going with a full set of FIELD cymbals in a mix of Halo Models and RAW models.....LOVE playing on metal again!!!i did a few vids on them as well to show others as hopefully i can help them as you helped me! I’ve had a horrible experience with these cymbals and company. I purchased a whole set and each cymbal has bent edges within only a couple months of playing. Jobeky replaced them but it took nearly 6 months of excuse after excuse. After they finally mailed new ones they were the wrong sizes. I’ve personally had all sorts of triggering issues as well. They also spin and have balance issues due to the trigger. I really wanted to like these and gave them a fair shot but after a year I’ve decided to switch to the new ATV cymbals. Night and day difference.

Hi Brian, I had the exact same experience as you and can confirm all what you said. I bought a whole set of their cymbals ( 14" Hats, 16" and 18" crash and a 20" ride ). The 16" crash did not work after just 2 days ( had that choke muted sound issue aswell ) and the bell of the ride did not work at all.
I don´t want to do bad talking or want to be unfair or rude, I just can confirm some people's experience, nothing more. I personally was very underwhelmed by these cymbals, because I expected better. The look and the feel are great, yes, but that's it. It is great to have a set of original size cymbals which look like real ones ( well, they are real ;-) but the downside in my case was 1. the noise; they are in real much louder than it seems by watching this video. I live in an apartment building and I got complaints by my neighbors. 2. is the triggering, I experienced a real hot spot issue on the ride and the hihats, the cymbals are very very sensitive near the piezo trigger but more away from it not so much which did not give me equal and comfortable trigger results. Then due to the spinning of the cymbals, especially the hihat that problem even got worse because the triggering is not 360 degrees ( choking is 360 degrees ).
3. issue to consider is the wear of the sticks, the metal cymbals wear your sticks same as on an acoustic set and the mesh heads are not happy about getting hit by such sticks, so you have to buy new sticks more often, not so with rubber cymbals on Edrums.
I am now in the process of changing all my Roland cymbals to the ATV ones. I have now the 14" ATV HiHat and 18" ride and they are really awesome in feel, playability, triggering ( 360 degrees of equal triggering all around the cymbal is just a superb experience once you've tried it ) and size, besides they are really not loud and I have happy neighbors now ;-)

Great video Mike! Very extensive and informational :) The Jobeky cymbals really look the best of any ecymbal. I used to play Jobeky brass series ecymbals when I played edums as my main kit some years ago. You're not the first one with the choke issue: I also had one of their cymbal broke on me. It started choking itself while playing, and it wouldn't choke by grabbing it, but Jobeky replaced it luckily, after a very long wait. Also one thing I noticed, the brass cymbals got dirty really quick and easily compared to any acoustic cymbal I've had or played. I stopped using them because of their loudness, but hands down the most realistic ecymbals in terms of looks, feels and sizing!
Hey man, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for your insights and thoughts about the cymbals. Yes, the loudness might be an issue for a lot of people. I am lucky to not have to care about that. ;)
Thanks for your comparison Mike. You answered a lot of the questions I had about the difference between the Roland cymbals. The Jobekeys look amazing but I'm not sure I can get away with the volume in my home! Especially that ride bell!!
Hey Mike, thanks for watching. Yes, the bell is really the loudest part by far as it is not damped inside at all.
Very good review. I have a set of the dark cymbals, this is the first video I have seen that demonstrates the volume difference between the Roland and Jobeky accurately. The Jobeky are considerably louder as you noted.
If anyone wants to play more quietly on the Jobeky I would highly recommend some Vic Firth sticks with the felt tips, it great reduces the volume of tip hits. I also use "rescue" tape on the mid part of the stick together with grip tape under my hands to balance the stick. The rescue tape really works well, it has no residue and is hard wearing.
With the above stick mods the volume is much closer to Roland. I still need to figure out a good way of damping the bell on the ride though.. it's pretty loud..

Thanks for watching and your comment. I was surprised that there was no review available so far as I know many guys playing those cymbals. I really like them, but wanted to give an honest opinion. Yes, those felt tips would do the job. There are also rubber tips available for common sticks. However, all this will affect the feel when playing after all.
Thanks for posting this Mike. I really love how they look and the real sizes. Do you have problems with them spinning? Or does the weight of the electronics box hold them in place?
Hi Joshua, thanks for watching. Yes, the spinning issue might occur, I forgot to mention this in the video. I've twisted the cable rather tight around my cymbal stands, though this ain't the best solution as it might damage the trigger box or the cable itself. The little box barely affects the behaviour in my opinion.
Very informative as always Mike. I've just completed an A2E conversion using RTS trigger on the snare and Jobeky A1 triggers on the toms and I could and would never have done it without your sharing of your extensive knowledge on the subject. Be aware, It is much appreciated! One question if you don't mind, I didn't see the ride bell being played in the playalong and was wondering what the triggering consistency is like. I know this is an issue for many with some of the Roland rides...

Right, I just forgot to play the bell ;) However, the bell triggers impressively accurate. Because of the bigger surface and the overall bigger size of the ride it’s also easier to hit the bell.
My experience with Jobeky was quite bad. I wanted to have a huge Jobeky Kit, I bought a decently large one for now (14 pieces from Jobeky and 6 from other brands), but I gave up. Most things are not triggering well anymore. Last year it took 2 months to have them answering me about a trigger cone that was wearing up. Now I have 2 cymbals under warranty and again, it's a hell to have a communication with them to sort it out. I decided to cancel a purchase of more cymbals that I was buying from them. I regret a lot to not had converted a regular drum with other triggers and using Roland, Yamaha or ATV as cymbals.
I am using jobeky mesh heads as well as snare and bass jobeky trigger/shells til last year.
I am very happy with them as it is quite cheap compare to drum tec/ATV/roland. Obviously it is not the same building quality.
A lot of Jobeky haters in the comment section but I am thankful they do exist to get affordable edrums. the support is slow but I always get a response from Jane
I think I will pass on their cymbals. I don't find on the market any ecymbals satisfying.
I don't understand offering 500 euros ecymbal plastic/ 2 piezzos ...at least jobeky is offering some b20 cymbal at lower price

Great video, Mike. You pretty much nailed my feelings on them, too. The aluminum on the underside of the cymbal is really my only complaint. My edges are bent up to hell, but I've never experienced the choking issue you have. There was one time that a cymbal just stopped triggering, but it wasn't related to a bent edge... I think it was just a bad piezo, which can happen sometimes, you know? Jobeky replaced it and since then everything works great. I just don't like the aluminum underside. Bronze will flex and retain it's shape, aluminum will not.
Thanks a lot, Jay. I really do like what Colin and Jane do. I mean, those cymbals are something e-drummers have been looking for a long time, right? And they pretty much nailed it with the lates lines like the Dark Bronze series or the new Brilliant series. However, I thought that issue with the bent underside needed to be mentioned. Though I understand it's not easy to fix, because: if you use more solid material, the cymbal will increase in weight. Or it will cost much more. So it's a balance act.

Hi Simon, I hear this issue quiet often. The separation between the bell and the bow is tricky. You have to play around with some settings in the module, Jobeky usually sends some suggestions with their products for optimized settings. My bell worked fine, so I had no issues.
I was really looking forward to this video as you know. I'm glad that you are so critical and honest about the Jobeky cymbals. Maybe it's a coincidence but I thought I saw the same issue that you had with your cymbal on the Hihat of Jay in one of his videos. The material on the bottom was slightly bend to I thought? But the cymbals are really looking great and are much nicer than the Roland cymbals. The Roland cymbals do have issues to and that's normal when you are hitting a surface Year after year there it will be worn out after some time or broken. I only had some issues with my VH 12 a few times, I replaced the piezo a few times. I'm glad I had the patience to wait for this video, for me the problems you had with your cymbal is a reason not to buy Jobeky cymbals. I hope some day Drum Tec will build there own cymbals. Ich liebe noch immer die Deutsche Gründlichkeit. I think the drums build by Drum Tec are from a higher quality level that the the drums from Jobeky.

Hi Rob, thanks for your comment. Well, I‘d buy Jobeky again. Yes, there was that issue I had, but as I said: Jason Özant‘s trigger never fell apart or broke. I simply love the feel and the looks of the cymbals and I just appreciate how Jane and Colin from Jobeky care about their customers. Don’t forget, it’s a family business, not a huge company like Roland.
Mike Luke ok I will think about it, I love the look also and volume difference isn't that great I think. It was a more brighter sound than the Roland I think. How long you had to wait for the cymbals when you ordered them and how did you got a cymbal to try out?
It just took five or six working days. Jobeky will even send you the tracking number.
The super bad mail communication with Jobeky is for me the reason for the time being not to purchase a complete set of Brilliance cymbal set, however beautiful they are.
Very unfortunate, but they do not respond to my questions that I ask through the mail , so let alone if there are problems with my new purchases.
So Jobeky could read this comment ( and they do ): Please go ahead with the communication department because you will miss out on many customers !!!!
Hey Will. I had the same issue with communication with Jobeky. I eventually ordered some cymbals from them but then thought I may never see them as it was a very long time (Ordered June 18th and just received them Aug. 5th. I'm in the US). If they perform really well, it may be worth the anxiety. The jury is out though until I can get them set up and try them.

@@3therspark63 I did finally get them. If you love hotspots and want to only hit the cymbals at a very small area above the actual triggers, they are for you. The ride cymbal bell trigger will start triggering at mid velocities on the bow. The ride edge switch works ok but the bow and bell is painfully not cool. Jobeky was supposed to send me a new ride cymbal but have not seen it in over a month. Not cool. Don't waste your time. I just got a cymbal pack from Magnatrack which took a week to get instead of 6 weeks. Will see how they go. Will be throwing up a bunch of content into the Red Beard Drums channel about all of this.

an important thing to remember is that they are a family owned business, so communication may not be great.
Great video but now old as Jobeky have updated these cymbals since this video was uploaded they use a different muting system I have the new version and they are brilliant would highly recomend
Hey Luke.. I relly like the looks and i'm really pondering back and forth about buying a set of these... I suppose cymbal swells are just as bad as on the roland ones? What i mean is that the bow sound gets triggered through light edge hits before the actual edge sound is beinh heard, right?
Would love ro hear your updated input on that and the cymbals in general after using them for some time now.

I’ve been looking into the Jobeky E-Cymbals to replace my Roland CY-8’s (that do not sway when you hit them)
My main goal is finding an E-Cymbal that will swing/sway as much as possible like acoustic cymbals would.
If loosened completely, will the Jobeky’s sway naturally like acoustic Cymbals do? Or will the wiring/triggering cause the Cymbal’s “Sway Time” to shorten?

Hi Chandler, thanks for stopping by. When you watch some of my drum cover videos, you will see that the cymbals move quiet naturally. You have to keep them from rotating though, so you cannot have them loosened completely.

Hi! Thanks for watching my video. Choking was fine, never had issues. The three zones on the ride do not react the way you‘d expect them to do, but it’s not a big issue overall.

Any chance that you have any recommendations for hi-hat sensitivity settings for Alesis Strike Pro stock hi-hat triggering and stock module? I played on a Alesis Strike Pro last week and the kit for the most part felt descent, but the hi-hats felt and responded terrible to me. The church that I played at last week basically pulled the drums out of the box 2 weeks ago and put them together, and have made no adjustments at this time. Any suggestions would be awesome for the hi-hats or the kit as a whole...thanks Mike!
Hi Jerimy, thanks for watching. Honestly, I have no valid information about the Alesis to share. I've just played them once at a local music dealer. But I didn't have the feeling of playing a smooth HiHat either. From my experience, there's just Roland that produces an accurate and smooth electronic HiHat. That's the reason I stick to my Roland hats and didn't replace them with the Jobeky. A smooth pair of hats is crucial for me (as for any drummer). You may ask Justin Greenewalt (65 Drums) or Marcel Price (V-Drum Tips) here on UA-cam. They have a big community following them and you'll probably find some guys there having experience with the Alesis that they can share.

how do they compare with roland in term of transition between edge hit and bow hit ?
I am unable to play on yamaha cymbal, you have to hit with a certain angle to get the edge sound or you are getting the edge sound instead of the bow sound.
I tried on cy12, I was surprised the transition between the 2 zones is very smooth. What about your jobeky ride ?
Hi, thanks for watching! Well, Roland cymbals are still the best in terms of triggering, performance, durability and separation between zones. The new ATV seem to be great, too. As I said in the video, on the Jobeky cymbals there's sometimes an issue having a hot spot in the area of the trigger box. But the transition is quiet smooth.
thanks for your feedback. Not much video on ATV cymbal but I saw a Japan youtube video, the acoustic noise was super loud especially the hihat.
It is quite an issue when using a PA.

Hey Anton, no, I haven’t tested them yet. I decided to stick with my Roland VH-12 hats for several reasons.
Does the bell on the ridehave alot of rebound like a real bell? I'm nervous about playing speedy things on the rides due to lack of rebound. Thoughts? Thanks!
As the bell is a „real“ bell, its rebound is the same you would expect from a real ride cymbal.

Yes, they are quieter.
Hello and thank you for the review. Do they have any give at all? I ask because my rubber Alesis Surge standard and Strike SE cymbals have no give whatsoever, and hurt my elderly hands when playing.
Well, as they are made out of actual metal, they do feel more like real cymbals. However, as they are also damped underneath, they feel a lot heavier, too.
Are the dark bronze cymbals thinner than the brilliance?
They are quiet similar.

I’m looking at buying a whole set of cymbals and triggers to use with Roland td30. Does anyone have experience with their hi hats? It appears many drummers prefer the Roland. I sent an email a few days ago from their website. Haven’t heard back yet. I tried the phone number listed but it didn’t work for me. I’m in the US and I guess I don’t have international calling.

Watch a slow motion cymbal video - you'll see why this design for the choking is inherently flawed for an electric cymbal.
The Jobeky service is as bad as bad can be. They support the drummers they endorse and those who make videos on UA-cam. All other customers have to wait ages before even getting an answer let alone getting issues solved. But they always have some flimsy excuses...
sadly I can confirm that aswell. I also have the impression that endorsed drummers or youtubers get treated differently than "normal" customers. I never got an answer to my question why the 20" ride bell did not work with my TD-30 module or how to get it done, I really felt to be left alone with some issues I had back at that time. But I have learned MY lesson already ;-)
mrsayang Have you managed to sort out your ride? I understand your frustration completely but in my experience (and a lot of others too I guess!) with edrum products/set up etc, the only person you can rely on to sort out problems is yourself. I've got my set up working OK now (although still with some issues which I live with) but it's taken a year of cursing! I have looked longingly at the Jobeky ride but the feedback from the community scares me off. I really hope to hear some good news from you! Peace!
sufc43 hello dear fellow, thank you for the kind words. I never sorted out the problem with the Jobeky ride and the frustration was too high back at that time that I gave up on their Cymbals. I can explain....I tried the ride with the TD-11 module and it worked ok, even the bell worked in the TD-11. BUT you have to know that you have to connect the Jobeky ride bell to another aux input. The standard "bell input" in a Roland module does NOT work with a Jobeky ride ( I did not know that before, because it is hard to find any Infos about the Jobeky Cymbals). My issue then was .....I had 2 crash Cymbals (16" and 18" ) and could connect ONLY 1 crash to the TD-11, because the TD-11 has only 1 additional input, which is labelled "crash 2". And THAT input was used for the ride BELL, so no way to connect a second crash. I thought, ok time to upgrade to a TD-30 module, which I did. On the TD-30 module it was also necessary to connect the ride bell to an aux input which I did, but the bell never worked, whatever I tried. And I kept asking Jobeky for help, never got an answer to my question how to get the ride bell working on a TD-30, even I don't know till today.
I switched to Roland Cymbals and now I switch completely to ATV Cymbals which are really the best performing Ecymbals, believe me, try the ATV ride, you will love it.

I was slightly worried about this as well. I bought a trigger from them, side mounted one, I got it 2 days after my order (UK based) and the thing performs amazingly, I know they had a tough time with a premises change. Hopefully they've sorted things out.

Why does everything lose it's nerve with electronic drums? It's not just the drums - everything else sounds "correct" but bland too. The sound might be good but i wouldn't consider this song art. It's like you can't play music on V drums - You can just play a Roland demo.
The 2 minutes you did the loudness comparison seemed like hours and the play along was worse. You could've got your message across for both in under a minute. I've heard many bad comments about Jobeky's customer service, I was hoping to hear more on that subject. You did provide some useful info but it should not have taken14+ minutes.

Just a quick update. I bought a set less than a year ago. They are junk. Just like the company. They stopped selling them. Just a little too late for me.

Jobeky take ages to ship products.
If you're in a rush give them a miss
Jobeky is literally 2 adults and their daughter. The drums are custom made to order and they do a high volume of business. Waiting 10 weeks for a custom made kit is not that long.
@@DonaldMcDade I totally agree with you I've always had Jobeky gear and never had any problems with them. They are the only company I know that puts themselves out there making different products all hand made in the UK. And yes they have a longer wait time but just don't forget there cymbals are hand made which takes time then they have to apply all the electronic! I ordered a cy-15r once from Roland and had to wait 3 months as it was out of stock! As for the haters on here are probably vdrums forum members which that place is just a vipers nest and they awalys back the DIY Jaman and Diamond guy. I own Jobekys new dark and brass cymbals and they have upgraded in so many ways since this video and they are brilliant!! Like Noodles says there are only 3 of them and I know Jane has took her time to talk to me in out of hours and even weekends don't see any other mainstream compaines doing that.
Metal cymbals are pointless. They are loud as hell. Sounds like you're playing on a kitchen table.
