- I have been looking for a while for a new engine for our 74 Dodge Minnie Winnie motorhome because the current 360 has started loosing oil pressure, and because if you swap to the later 5.9 Magnum engines of the 90's and early 2000's you get a big bmp in horsepower and torque as well as a roller cam block, better head design, serpentine belt system, and factory fuel injection. We plan to bolt this engine to our freshly rebuilt 46RE transmission. We had to go get this 99 Durango donor vehicle in the middle of the night and then got lost trying to find where it was hidden in the woods. On these Magnum Engines they run absolutely wonderful with a 180 degree t-stat, 3923 Plugs. It won't lay on it's face when it gets warm with these two little helpers!

I am in the process of restoring a '74 Minnie Winnie myself, and attempting the same swap. Word of warning, by my measurements the magnum intake setup will require dog house modification. That manifold is TALL

When you have the engine out pull the intake(should replace the gaskets anyway) then make sure you change the intake belly pan gasket. A good upgrade would be to look for an aluminum belly pan cause the steel one heats up different than the aluminum intake which leads to oil burning. My 99 318 Durango had this issue and would huff smoke in higher RPM. You'll be putting more stress on it going into the RV and want to keep the oil consumption low 👍

Nearly all the vehicles you acquire are a treasure trove, sometimes good stuff, sometimes junk, sometimes a bit of both. Looking forward to the engine removal and install in the motorhome - if you show the removal, I hope you do, it will be one of your shorter videos, though it will be good nonetheless, especially if the whole family is involved.

That a nice Is durango truck SLEEPERDUDE. I would clean it up and put a new transmission in it and use it as a family vehicle. But I know you need a motor for the RV. You & your family have a good weekend buddy.

Those must be some good brakes to be able to hold like that! A lot of times the Emergency brake never holds. I had a 1997 Ram with the 360. The stats were 230 HP and 330 Foot Pounds. I was super happy with mine. Lots of GOAT STOMPS! Can't wait to see the build!! 😎

I think if you put up an auction for the things you have found in cars, you might get enough for a gallon or 2 of gas for your RV vacation. Great catch on the emergency brake, Ralphie! I'm very surprised Tosh didn't talk you into keeping the truck in tact and driving it. Can't wait for the video seeing you drop this into the RV. I am hoping it's an easy fit.

Hey SD crew. Josh, have you thought about tearing that 360 down and using a $500 rebuild kit? New rings,bearings and gaskets are nice to have. Maybe part out whats left of the Durango to get some cash for new casings on your tow rig.

Hello Josh & Family. Regarding that engine, I would make a point of replacing the timing chain and timing chain tensioners to have piece of mind. I was driving a Dodge Dakota Sport with the 3.9 liter engine and the engine jumped time which trashed the engine. I never had much success with any of the MoPar stuff lasting very long for me. I was impressed that Ralphie was familiar with the “Game Boys”. My old Game Boy still has a Tetris game still in it. I always felt that the Tetris helped exercise my problem solving skills for my fabrication and welding that I was doing at that time.
Between the truck, Xbox and the lighter, you and Ralphie both got all the bang for your buck lol

You know you've touched your son right when he says they had released emergency brake. Seriously that's a compliment. Been there a few times. So you have rural King's out your way. Great place to buy oil and other fluids especially when they're on sale. We sure had some closer to us. Orschlens if you have them out your way quite often had buy 1 get 1 half off on Lucas products. My great-grandmother grew up on the reservation she lived and died there actually. I always get a little laughing somebody says I apologize did native Americans.. most of them have humor as well. As my grandmother would say. Native Americans doesn't describe my Indian family. She would honestly say we is here before it was America so native yes but native Americans just another label. No offense. Just pointing out everybody has a difference in opinions and thoughts. Just call me mutt. Glad you folks keep it real

Just to sum it up that's been true at least up to three years ago I haven't looked recently. As my friends out there in the Navajo Nation and if you've ever been out there you know why they call it a nation instead of a reservation. I'm not saying it's not a reservation. They're Navajo country is bigger than ten of our individual out of 50 that we have. But and we were out there visiting they took us in the backcountry and showed us around and it was a terrific time for this old white boy. Anyway I told one of I said man you should be nicer than a white boy and he laughed. Because he went on to say I'm only 40% and your skin big color mine if he's out here and it's going to blank sun all the time. People are people regardless of their heritage or color skins people are different and they're the same and otherwise. Navajo Cherokee and so on those labels that were put on them a long time ago by white people or our government. Now each tribe has their own name for themselves. Quite interesting if you have an interest look it up. Then Google the pronunciation have your phone tell you how to pronounce it because some of them aren't pronounced anywhere near the way they're spelled. Anyway you know my opinion is For myself. Another people believed differently and they take offense to one label or another. I always thought the best label might be person's name or sir or ma'am.

Those are great engines, I have 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Magnum 5.9 it runs great. Check the bottom of that dip stick, it has a black rubber tip so it could had been completely empty when you first started it that night.
