    Some people dont realize, truck frames can have harder spots and softer spots depending on how they were designed. When hardened steel bends too much, it cracks. The only eay to fix it is too keep repairing it.

    • @gabex59

      Actually the cap is a stress riser. Proper way to repair is grinding cap flush to base metal as he did.

    • @obfuscated3090

      Caps above the surface are acceptable per many codes but must not be excessive. His would have passed AWS but no harm in grinding them and he properly polished with a flap wheel without reducing thickness below base metal. Tidy work and ample for the task.

      @shanegray7739 Рік тому +6

      Good job, I would run atleast 5 horizontal welds across the repair then grind flat, doing so changes the grain structure of the chassis further reducing the chance of cracking, you can see this if the weld is X-rayed,

      The corners after welding are not truly "sharp". Reinforcement plate customs vary but that example produces a longer, stronger joint than a butt joint while removing metal adjacent to the original failure which also likely has internal damage. He used an "upright L" reinforcement which are widely recommended for dump trucks (page 11):
