I was listening to the Boy With the Thorn in his Side a few a weeks ago and Andy's bass was what I really couldn't get enough of and put me in a great mood. As a teenager I was mostly enamoured with Johnny Marr's guitar sound and still am, but have loved Andy's contribution more and more, the songs are worth so much more thanks to him. He really was a sublime musician. RIP
@@euan7166 can´t compare with these bassist... rourk was abselutetly perfect for the smiths songs. no better match... bass and marrs arrangement was a perfect blend...
Everyone point to This Charming Man or Barbarism BAH when they want to remark how good he was. But those bass lines are just such a "cool riffs" not cooler than other lines from Gallup (Cure) or Hook (N.Order). I´ve been bass player for more than 30 years, and I strongly recomend anyone who would want understand what a bassist should do to enhance the quality of any song, to pay attention to some other gems as Well I Wonder, Oscilate Wildly or Headmaster Ritual (many others, of course). Thats why Mr Andy Rourke was a second to non true bass player. Cheers mate.
What a shame!!! Their rhythm section was so tight. RIP, Andy. This is the first I've seen/heard of it. The US media has said nothing. WTF? He helped make my adolescence.
Can't believe it seems so young. That cancer has taken young people Ive known it awful. Andy's bass riffs were fantastic so funky at times. Pity they never got back together for a one off gig. Morrissey I believe deep down still cared for Andy even after their fallout hence such kinds words
The older i get the more i realise that without Morrissey they would have been recognised as possibly the greatest British band in history. With Morrissey they were the recognised as the top 5 British band in history..
"after the band was photographed there for the Queen's Dead album." Funny, I've never seen that album listed in Queen's discography. . . Unless he meant Hot Space..? Or perhaps the BBC needs to hire someone who actually knows how to annunciate? Yes, that'll be it.
I just love this guy....😢😢😢
Rip Andy, now any slim chance of a reunion has finally gone. Sad day for us all😢😢😢

There was never a chance.
They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. RIP Andy
They're too good for the hall of fame: it's corporate bullshit.
I so agree.
Only Americans care about that trash stupid club
Doubt they would ever accept such a crap "accolade"...
Fame? The Smiths are anti fame.
Andy. Thank you for bringing to my attention how magical a Bass can be. You Saved My Life. Rest in Peace.
Andy Rourkes bass playing defined many of The smiths records for me . Rip Andy Rourke you truly will be missed💔

I'll never get over this 😪 it's been almost a year and I feel like he's still there
Andy was and is and always will be my favorite from the smith's, rest in peace and thank you for all the amazing 🎸 sounds.
😢 so many memories in my young days. Still love the Smiths those albums and songs are forever dear to me
Glad to see clips of live performances of "Barbarism Begins At Home" there - I keep going back to them, Andy's performance on them was incredible.
As good a bassist as McCartney himself, I love what he brought to the smiths.
Better. But not as good as Squarepusher or Flea.
He was a better bass player than McCartney. Rip Andy Rourke of The smiths.
@@euan7166 can´t compare with these bassist... rourk was abselutetly perfect for the smiths songs. no better match... bass and marrs arrangement was a perfect blend...
Rourke was incredible. Both comments above are missing the point of McCartney's bass playing though.
Rest in Peace Andy, I still haven't heard a band with such unique yet tight and driving bass lines.
The light of Heaven to Andy. A musical legend. He made that guitar talk.
Obrigado, Andy.
One of the best, RIP!
very very underrated bassist...
My fave bassist of all time.
R.I.P Andy! And thank you for the music that you were part of making 🙏🕊
That 'The Tube' performance of Barbarism at 03:48 is one of my favorites of Andy's. Totally chunky and juicy bass playing.
Rip Andy I grew up with your songs Man . Sorry to see you gone too soon.cheers
Very amazing and memorable bass lines, The Smiths were one of the best bands ever, in my opinion...RIP Andy!
He was unusually, noticeably good. A cut above. Pancreatic cancer is really bad. Hope he's in a lovely place.
God bless you, Andy, you changed our lives, Sir
So nice to meet you and share so shining and blissfulness moments with you @ Perú!!! The privilege and pride is mine! Yes!🎸
Ah, man! This is the first I've heard of this and I am gutted 😢
Maraming salamat Sir Andy para sa musika. We love The Smiths here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 RIP..

such sad news
What a tragic loss to the music industry. One of my biggest influences as a bass player.
Very sad news. This man fueled the rhythm of my youth. You will be greatly missed. 😢
Vale Andy 😢💔 You are LEGEND, you will be very missed by the World 🎸🎶🎤
RIP Andy :( Great bass player great band
But in our hearts, you are so real. R.I.P. Andy you need not to worry about that.

He was one of the very few fretted bass players I liked.

He's still here Bass Drum Guitar Voice.
Very sad news 😢
Andy was a much better character than Morrissey or Marr. Best bass player in my books. Thanks Andy.
Probably my favorite bass player ever. His bass lines were so melodic and musical. Brilliant artist.
Hypocrite Morrissey, to say that he was valued but not enough to give him the 6 or 7 figures that he owed him??
Reast high King 👑
With all due respect.

Nooooooooo!
Wow this sucks. I don’t want to be this old.
Never a chance of a reunion, as long as Morrisy was in the band. He despises all of them
He despises everyone doesn't he?
Actually Morrissey never broke the band up
The first of the gang to die
Oh....its true, just like title morrissey song, Andy Rourke virtuos bassist. His death is so sad but He will live in his songs and rytmhs

The eighties music with the boy bands were boring and they had a short lifetime luckily !
