CHAMPONG TAIH BAAN AAN TU | English-Wancho Song

Hello everyone. Thanks for checking out this video. This song, ‘Champong taih baa naan tu’ was crafted and arranged way back in 2018. The costume was first, hand drawn in a mobile phone by me, and kept it stored, till it was finally time to make the video. The costume is a mixture, or say modification of our traditional attire. The community I belong from, is called Wancho. So, it’s a Wancho dress, with tonnes of modifications. And of course, the other language in the song apart from English, is a Wancho language.
Here’s a little detail about the costume. The necklace with bold beads and long animal teeth, is called ‘Jik nu’. And the flat sash-like think, worn around the solder is called, ‘Jik phak’. The blue beads, worn in the legs, just below the knee, is called ‘Kaam Jik’. The yellow coloured, circle thing, around the forearm, is called, ‘Lok baa’, the light-coloured strip, around arms and legs, is called ‘Lowh khok’. And finally, the cloth piece, worn around the waist is called, ‘Khiahit’.
‘Champong taih baana aan tu’ means, ‘trying thinking sometimes’ or ‘sometimes, try thinking’. The song is all about pushing forward for your goal and not to sit ideal without doing anything fruitful. The song asks us to figure out the things that went wrong, or the thinks that we’re doing wrong.
