    Another great video and yes, it IS a great shot pointing backwards too!
    Also, it's important to mention that the ROPS is only 1/2 of the safety equation, the other being the seat belt which keeps you inside the protection zone of the ROPS in the event of a roll-over. If you're thrown out of the seat the ROPS is as likely to crush you as save you. Buckle up!!! 👍👍

    • @MyClutteredGarage

      You’re so right about the seatbelt. I thought of that point afterward. Thanks so much!

    Great video, Ed. Mowing up a grade in reverse is how I prefer also. Especially on the Ford 8n without 4 wheel drive. I don’t like when the front tires get light due to the mower or brush hog on the rear.

    Some very good tips there Ed. Couldn't agree with you more. When I bought my tractor which is green in color I ordered it with a fiberglass canopy. Therefore I can't put my ROPS down unless I take the Canopy off. So, in the three years I've owned it, the ROPS have always been in the upright position. I live in West Virginia, the Mountain State, and I had a 4x4 tractor run off with me while mowing on a Steep hill about 20 plus years ago. Very scary, and I wouldn't want anybody to add this to their Bucket List of things to do. I was very lucky/Blessed as when I was scooting down the the hill i just missed a Concrete wall on a Dehy Plant for a gas company that was about 4' tall and 20' long at the foot of the hill. I narrowly missed this wall by inches. Thanks Ed for sharing your knowledge with us.

    I noticed you don’t have a hand bolt I purchased at the dealer so your ROPS don’t vibrate. The nut is welded on the right side of the ROPS fits the threads perfectly. The Kubota comes with them from the factory on the BX models but not the B 2601. Thanks for the informational video! Wayne

    That's an extremely narrow tractor. Mine has spinout rims out to 80 inches for greater stability. That particular "hill" may or may not cause me to change my mowing technique given the much wider stance. For a very steep hill, I might resort to a different machine altogether.

  • @turdferguson5300
    @turdferguson5300 3 роки тому +6

    Very important if you do tip your tractor after righting it DO NOT START IT for 24 hours. This lets the fluids that may be on top of the pistons leak back down. If you can remove the glow plugs and turn the motor by hand that would be best. You can do a lot of damage by starting it immediately after a rollover. Six things to remember, #1 set the tractor upright #2 remove the key from the tractor #3 change your underwear #4 grab a beer #5 wait till tomorrow #6 hope nobody saw ya shit yourself. PS Axle extensions are great for stabilizing on grades. Jeep extensions fit the BX series but you'll need to drill out the lug holes to 30mm so the socket can tighten the bolts. I found a 30mm bit on Amazon. Jeep extensions are $50 while tractor extensions are $175 -$200. The distance from the mid mower to the back wheels will determine the size of extensions you can use. I have a 54" deck so I used 1 1/2" extensions on each side. That's only 3" but it made quiet a difference on some serious grades. Jeep extensions may fit a B2601 also but IDK?

    If you are hitting tree branches with your ROPS, its time to trim the trees. If you have a tractor large enough to have a ROPS, you should have a pole saw handy to trim those low lying branches because most likely if those branches are hitting your ROPS, they're probably really close to hitting you in the head as well so trim those tree branches up out of the way and leave the ROPS alone.

    I can't help but wonder why you do not back to the top of the hill with the mower up, drop the deck and mow down the slope. This puts added weight on the rear tires, you have a rear discharge mower that is intended to be pulled forward while mowing. It would seem that mowing while backing impacts the flow of grass from the deck.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  2 роки тому

      Cuts fine in both directions, but good point! It does a great job just mulching up the grass when you mow in reverse too. Thanks for your comments. -Ed

      Hi JP. It’s hard to convey on video but that hill is pretty steep.
