  • Konmari Method has changed my life. I recently realized that I have been feeling so stressed because I was drowning in stuff. Watch me declutter my four kids' toys using the Konmari method (Marie Kondo) organization to declutter and organize everything kondo style for a clean home. I will be showing you a before and after of my basement and twins' room. Hopefully this will inspire you to declutter your home too!

My children were struggling to let go of toys as well so I gave them each a large box and they put as many toys as they could into those boxes. Then I packed up all the other toys in the house into moving boxes for three months. It gave the kids a chance to experience having less toys to clean up, less to choose from, and they appreciated them so much more. When it can time to return their toys to them they only chose the things they were willing to clean up and parted with 80% of the rest!!

Thank you for sharing this journey with us. Such a great reminder for me to keep my kids toys under control. Recently went through my kids toys about 2 months ago then watched them empty bins out on the floor to find the toys they wanted to play with. So yesterday I went in and gathered all the toys they dump and put in a box with a date on it. When that day comes and they have not asked for whatever is in the box all those toys will be donated. It is nice to be able to walk in their room without the fear of injuries or death 😂🧐🤦🏾‍♀️

Hi Joanna! We do the "one in , one out" method which is if they want a new toy, they have to let go of another toy and donate it. I also do that with my stuff too. Love the way their toy room looks now!

I am a mum to 3 kids and a childminder i have so much toys it can take over your home. My kids dont let go of any thing either its can be really hard. They wont always play with toys and one day you will miss it. I always try and remember that x

I love that at 11:25, you can see that they anchored their bookshelf- I don't know why that made me happy 😊 but I guess it's because it's nice to notice when others acknowledge not to be ignorant (not that ppl that don't anchor their furniture are-in fact according to a documentary ppl don't because they aren't aware).
These decluttering vids have motivated me to declutter my bedroom.

Yes! My kids switched rooms and I used that as a good time to go through all of their stuff. They're at ages where they've outgrown lots, so it was some very significant downsizing and it is great to simplify before the school year starts again!

Yes, We do toy purges a handful of times a year. I have my kids help 11,6,4 they know that it's going to kids that can have them. Everything has a place and once that place is to full they have to get rid of things.

Decluttering toys is the hardest. There are so many little pieces. You and the kids did a great job.

We just moved & had bins and bins of toys that were in the storage room in the old house that we forgot about! We have been doing massive purges of everything since moving in! Feels so good!

Now I don't personally have children, but I have heard that it's best to keep toys out of their rooms. I think it would be a gentle nudge that they play in the playroom as opposed to the whole house and or basement.

With 4 kids, I personally would say a few toys in rooms is fine. You don't always want to be with siblings 🤷‍♀️

Yes toys don't leave the playroom unless it's one he sleeps with

Bedrooms are smaller so keeping them in there has helped us have less of them. Never loved the idea of an entire room dedicated to collecting toys to play with. My kids get them out and put them back daily.

Great declutter! I’ve heard so much about KonMari and feel like I understand her method, but I finally read her book last week and I understand it all so much better now! Toys are the worst! They accumulate so fast, and now that my kids can buy their own toys with THEIR money, it’s hard to get rid of it!

Yes, the book is simple, but so practical when you hear the reasons for her methods.

They're always growing so they're bound to get new things too. It's important to cycle out the stuff that's broken or what they've outgrown to make room for more age appropriate things.

I feel like summer is a great time to do a big toy purge to get ready for Christmas - and my sons birthday happens to be in February so we a lot quite close together. It makes it easier when trying to find spaces for all of the generous gifts from our extended family.

  • @preciouslifeoffical
    @preciouslifeoffical 5 років тому +1

I do 2 toy Purge year one right before Christmas then right before or after birthdays. The one before Christmas is the biggest 50% of the toys go to charity to make room for the new. I tell him we have to free up so much space for the new toys so any toys I don't fit go to children with that don't have any

I actually just did a toy purge last night! It was relatively easy, but I only have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. It was astonishing to see how much toys they have when everything was laid out. So many duplicates and broken toys!

I declutter my kids toys at least ones every three months . I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me!!! I also only keep two side bins from Home Depot & they can only keep collections of toys that fit in the bin. Once they don’t have room in the bin it’s time to Declutter the collection!! Also - toys are only allowed to be stored in the play area! All other areas (room , living rooms ) we don’t keep toys in !!

You did a great job! If you've never watched 'The Minimalist Mom' channel, please watch Dawn's decluttering videos for more inspiration on how it's really helped her kids to be more creative, and play better to have WAY less than we think nowadays kids need. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with kids bringing one SET of toys into the main living area at a time, then having to put it back I properly before they go on to the next thing. At least you can keep an eye on them thar way, rather than them strewing your whole newly (and VERY nicely!) decorated downstairs family room with toys and then leaving it that way, because you can't see the mess they've left! I always so enjoy your cluttering viedeos, you have the engaging personal to make it enjoyable!

In my experience decluttering shines light on how much more can go. Every time I think we’ve pared down the kids toys it shows me other toys they really don’t care about. Especially the Barbie and AG doll accessories. My toy tolerance is a lot lower than yours though! I hate picking up toys so it it’s not played with I’m pretty brutal.

I’m a grandma and I just decluttered toys. I had a lot of Little People sets. Castle, cottage, playground, etc. I divided them into garbage bags and wrote on them...castle with all accessories and people. Did this for all big items. Got to Salvation Army and they told me they don’t take toys. I think the guy unloading didn’t want to take them. They’ve never refused toys. They have a whole toy section. Through a family member I found someone that wanted them and could really use them. Keep decluttering JV...love your videos. You have a beautiful family. ❤️❤️❤️

I did the long declutter process with my kids... then after that I would say “would you like to do it with me or let me just do it?”... they really didn’t want to waste more of their time on it so they trusted me. Now they have so few items, that mine really want to do it themselves.

I'm having a hard time decluttering toys for the first time! My son's birthday is coming up so I need to declutter - but I feel like he really likes everything he has. He has WAY too many toys as it is, so the thought of new ones coming in is stressful...

  • @sunflower7766

My son has quite a lot of toys but as he has got a bit older he's 7 now what he plays with has reduced to Lego, Minecraft figures, dinosaurs and playmobil. That's it. But I feel bad getting rid of the rest as they were gifts. Think I might aim to get rid of them by the end of the year if he doesn't play with them.

My ocd wont let me just throw toys that dont belong in other storage bins, so i label stuff. It also helps with knowing if a toy that came with multipal parts r missing n wen they are i toss them. Another thing i do is clean the toy room when my daughter is not around ( school, grandparents, etc) she doesnt notice the toy is gone. Example it took her more then a yr to ask about a toy i had donated itotally forgot i donated it n i told her she lost it she didnt even care she just said aww man oh well n moved on with her life. Least gavorite thing to clean ouy but probably the only place i truely have organized lol
