I think so too, it's mainly due to curiosity and admiration that's why some Filipinos stare at foreigners. 😊 Not because of anything negative or whatsoever.

We tend to stare because we are curious. Curious of the person, nationality and its culture. Maybe to some they see it as oppurtunity, chance or lucky if they might get a relationship with it either with pure love, money or both. but in general no worries because its all in a positive way. So foreigners are very much welcome anywhere in the Philippines.

The "stare" in the Philippines means amazement/curiosity on foreigners' physical appearance like the height, the color of the skin, eyes, nose even the way of speaking. Its like, if a person is from Norway it's like "so this is how Norwegian or an Icelander looks like or an American looks like or an Arab or Korean. It's nothing negative just purely curiosity or amazement or appreciation.

Hey Alex, nice quick pointed conversations, I can see the friendliness is contagious. I'd like to see you do a few reviews of some of the local Filipino staple dishes that many foreigners like to eat at some of the restaurants. It would be good to see you chatting it up with the servers and others in these places.

I think it's part of Filipino hospitality. When Filipinos see a stranger or foreigner, we stare because to see if they need help or assistance and generally Filipinos are too shy to ask directly if the strangers need help or not. Staring is one way for Filipinos to show they are there in case the stranger needs help. Also, Filipinos are very social, contrary to their meekness and shyness -staring is an attempt to break the ice so to speak

I visited the beautiful Philippines for the first time in 2019. My cousin and I were always being stared at, mostly at the malls or shopping areas. At first it made us very uncomfortable. Like everyone stared. They were nice stares though as they were accompanied by a smile. The whole line coming down from the escalator also stared. We looked up and even those on the top floors stared. But after a few days, I tried my best to smile back and try not to let it bother me. We had a great time ❤️

Try visiting some of the small villages in Thailand. Some years back, I went to an area in Isaan (Northern Thailand) and people would come out of their shops to watch us walk down the street.. It was hilarious to us, but it was honest curiosity for them. Mothers with small children seemed to want their kids to meet us. Children would come up to us and want to touch our skin and our hair.I would look over at the Mothers and they would be nodding in approval. It was a lot of fun meeting the locals. They acted like we were from outer space.

I lived in Korea for awhile, they stare too. There is no ill intent, we are just different. I'm over 6 feet tall and they guy I used to travel with had blonde hair, so we stood out. While on one trip, we got off the train at the wrong stop and started walking around a small out of the way town. We had a dump truck driver stop and ask us where we were going. He knew we were lost.

If I'm walking around in a place like a mall and notice someone looking at me I usually will work my way over to them and start a conversation. I know they want to talk to me and ask questions so I try to break the ice and it has always turned out to be great conversations and always has some laughs. I try to say funny things to make them happy. I am probably guilty of doing some of my own staring because the ladies here are so beautiful, I just want to see them well before they're out of my sight. It all boils down to curiosity though.

It’s nice you did a follow up topic video on this. First initially asking foreigners if they get stares and then finding the answers why from the source itself (Filipinos). Here in Hawaii it’s very diverse so seeing foreigners and multi ethnicities is the norm and we wouldn’t necessarily stare like how the locals do in the Philippines. When I stare at people it’s usually for a variety of reasons: either I find them very attractive and admire their physical appearance, they are wearing something interesting that grabs my attention, they look familiar or remind me of someone I know or I stare back at people who stare at me lol. I can see how it can feel socially awkward or uncomfortable receiving stares and some people do find it rude to stare.

Met my fiancee there. 1st in Manila then traveled to her place Liago City Albay. It took a bit to get used to the attention. We walked to the local store and was immediately approached. I turned my head and there were 4 other employees standing there just looking. LOL. Same with all the other stores we shopped at. Her nephew wanted me to see where he play basketball. We walked a couple blocks to the court. It was 3 of us shooting around. 4 minutes later I noticed 13 kids joined! 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for putting this out there. Good one. Oh btw, I am black and 6'

So many people stare it can actually become too much for some and you can become very uncomfortable especially Americans. We are taught from a young age not to stare at others as its impolite. I don't care anymore but my kids notice and I give them the same advice, just don't look at them.

It is pretty strange that practically every 'foreigner' is seen as good looking in the Philippines. Even foreigners that are "bottom feeders" in their home countries seem fairly popular there.
Well as long as they're happy it doesn't really matter I suppose, it's just difficult to wrap your head around from the outside.
I guess my blue eyes, blonde hair and pale skin would be all I need. Feels a bit... devaluing and they are selling themselves short if a few physical traits outweigh who the person actually is too.

Regardless if you're a Filipino or not if you look DIFFERENT than what people are used to then you'll be looked at regardless if you're beautiful, handsome, etc.
A malaysian, indonesia, thai can go to Philippines and they'll be considered as foreigners but people won't STARE at them unless they have some features that makes them standout or if they're very handsome or beautiful. On the other hand if an american, european, russian, african, indian, east asian (with strong east asian features) will be stared a lot because simply because they look DIFFERENT, that's it. No other reason, thinking about relationship comes once you know the person or a conversation starts and it clicks.
And if someone says "other countries doesn't stare as much" then my answer to that is that the Philippines tourism industry is not as BIG as other popular countries hence the appearance of a foreigner that look different isn't as normal as it was with other countries that are already used seeing those foreigners. Another thing and probably the biggest reason is that the Filipino's in general aren't afraid to express their opinions and are less shy compared to other countries, you can also add to that that since majority can speak basic english, were not that afraid to start a conversation with a foreigner.

9 out 10 they are not trying to be rude. It’s mostly curiosity. I mean, seeing a 6’2 is not common, we look like kids next to those lol.
And of course having a different skin color, maybe different hair and hair color, eye color.
Basically you stand out and they are curious

Ha ha ha foreigners are rich??? You really have to try to come and experience the real life marrying a foreigner .Then maybe you will change your opinion about the thought of the word rich .Just that they worked so hard and save money in order they could support their travelling. But to think that they're rich...Not at all.

I think those Filipinos who were not yet experience living and working abroad are the ones who like to stare at Foreigners in the Philippines because they are just curious why these Foreigners like to visit and appreciated Philippines. They have no idea that the Philippines is the one of the most beautiful country in the world.

My guess is that they spend more time online and have adopted the cultures to a certain degree of those they interact with online and those they follow online..

    stare at foreigners?
    1. some stare at foreigners because because some have saw one for the first time.
2 .others stare at foreiners because it cathes their attention because of their height or size of foreigners.
3.some can't easily grasp what the foreigner is saying (due to accent or they cannot totally get what the foreigner says).

Foreigners are not alone when it comes to staring by filipinos..because even fellow filipinos stare at each other..i find it rude being a FILIPINO…i really cannot understand whats behind that offensive and weird attitude..but thats how most of them are….maybe they didnt know or knew the word PRIVACY exists! Hahaha even abroad i experienced filipino staring at me but when you are about to greet because maybe as if they want to say hi for noticing that im a filipino then they will look away.hahaha So rude….So my advise to foreigners is that just look away when you caught them staring at you guys..i do it here in the Philippines…hope you are enlightened foreigners…😉😁🙌

some kids would greet you what's up my N&@#A! just cause they thought it's a cool american street thing. which is positive but it's not politically correct for english speaking foreigners but they're kids and they're not racist. if someone call a black person white then that may be the case the irony in the sarcasm or rudeness you can tell by the tone. point is it's the sentiment that is essentially denotes racism not the words.
