0:00 Intro
0:04 Customer wanted no more than an oil change
0:19 Would've made quite the bang
0:29 I can't even imagine how hot it must have been running to melt the dipstick
0:52 Well we found the problem
1:04 Well overdue for some new tires, the owners are incredibly lucky they haven't blown out yet
1:29 Customer States "my transmission is shifting funny"
1:43 Customer came in for normal brake check and who ever worked the vehicles beforehand torqued them way to high
Check out their tiktok here! / stys54
2:01 Unsure whether this was burning a lot of oil or was just not filled up the correct amount
2:12 I guess this would make a good anti-theft feature
2:24 I have a feeling they knew something wasn't quite right before this happened
2:31 This customer really got their moneys worth on this tire
2:40 Customer States "wheel making funny noise”
Check out this tiktok here! www.tiktok.com/@fake_king_ran...
2:44 Wheel weights should never be stacked like this
2:59 This Customer came in for metal to metal brakes and a battery
3:06 The service managers really need to turn these vehicles away
3:13 If it is gas it's lucky they found it before anything bad happened
3:23 Nothing a bit of seafoam won't clean up
3:33 They'll be back in pretty soon after their new tires get chewed up
3:41 At least these guys managed to bring it in before overheating the engine
4:15 This was already a warrantied engine too. Super unlucky customer
4:24 Washing some parts of the engine bay is fine but there's definitely a few components to stay away from

2:01 It's a Theta II engine, they're destined to throw rods no matter how much (or little) oil you put in or how frequently you change it
The dipstick one. The manufacturer used a cheap thermoset plastic. It has been an issue for a while. Catapillar swapped back to metal.
Well, the oil filter did a great job.
I wonder how pump is feeling with melted plastic inside. Oil goes to the pump first.
That wheel lock, they most likely used a impact wrench on it. Not supposed too.
Or they were cheap ones. The cheap ones from Ebay will shatter on you eventually.
@@TheTrollTrollyYeti Could be that too.
Or it's Chinesium knockoff of OEM in the regular supply chain.
Had a wheel lock do that to me once. It destroyed the key with it when it happened too. I suppose it's possible that the key broke and took the wheel lock with it. Either way, it made dealing with the other 3 locks a real PITA. All that being said, it was over 20 years old. Something tells me that this isn't why the one in the video broke though.
I got mcgard locks and they cracked on me like that. Hand tightened non-powered torque to spec. Only thing I can think of is they were too short despite it being all stock...
I laugh when I see people cleaning their engines at a car wash. No bags or anything to cover electronics, just spraying away😂😂😂
I laugh when a car is seriously struggling with that. Worked at a Toyota dealer, every single engine wash was done with solvent and pressure washer. Also on other brands of used cars. The only problem I have ever came across was an Opel that got water in one of its spark plug holes. Was a quick fix.
Lol yup I just spray away after I empty a can of degreaser just avoid directly hitting any of the fuse boxes and it's been fine every single time. Only 2 cars act up, running rough after. Just drove each one about an hour nice and hard to get it all dried out and it's been fine
Well good car manufacturers usually make it so water doesn't ruin the engine
done it a million times on a million different cars, only problem is occasionally will get some water into a plug well on an ohc. just drive it for a bit so the water vaporizes out, and good to go.
Usually electronics in engine bay is waterproof, otherwise u cant drive in rainy day. ;-)
I bought a used car, but the dealer offered a complementary wash with the purchase of the car, which I accepted. I came back the next to to pick up the car, only for every light to be flashing on the dash, the engine running very rough, and the steering wheel shaking like crazy. Turns out one of the interns power washed the engine bay, and got water in the ECU, damaging it, and also managed to dent 2 of the wheels. The dealer offered no coverage for the damage because "it has aftermarket wheels, and is an as is car, so we cant warranty any damage" Had to almost file a lawsuit to get my money back.
@3:42, BLESS YOU!! 😂
They share the roads with us!!!
My nephew worked at an oil change garage, and the things he tells about cars came in with little oil and others 12,000 miles without oil changes. People are totally ignorant about car maintenance today. I don't understand oil changes are cheap twice a year only 25 to 35 dollars 2x equal 70 or less.
Car insurance is 700 or more a year and gas a thousand or more.
These people are probably running without insurance, and maybe without a license.

As always the best mechanic videos to watch and see how crazy customers truly are.
Merry Christmas to the people who make these awesome videos. You can certainly see how much time and effort is put into production of all your extremely professional mechanic videos.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey, very Merry Christmas to you too
three oil changes in 10,000 miles is really good. Must of meant 100,000 miles. lol
I thought that plastic dipstick would be the prize for “ WHAT THE F , but that last Chrysler engine takes the prize !!!
2:26 Next phase of stance cars, TOE GANG
Clearly they, or someone else, used an impact on the wheel lock. It's no wonder it exploded.
Probably the last mechanic-wannabe tire-jockey. I'm so glad I have an extra set of wheels, I don't need these kids driving my car nor cranking my lugs down with a damn impact wrench.😂
Even if that wheel lock was hit with an impact wrench it should not shatter like that. When those locks are made in China, they use the cheapest steel to make them.
Very common kill switch I see in Toyota's all the time. Also as a dealer tech I wish I could decline those health risk cars.
So it's an electrical problem or antitheft device?
@@dave161141 yes.
@@dave161141 Anti-theft. If it's wired that way on purpose. Some kind of electrical gremlin if it wasn't though.
When I first started detailing cars as a teenager. I cleaned the engine in a new Ford Explorer. It ran like crap afterwards. Since then, I refuse to clean an engine. Especially in modern vehicles. Too many electrical connections. If one isn't sealed properly you can spend a week trying to find the one that has water in it. That's also why I use dielectric grease in every electrical connection I unplug. On my vehicles, and on customer vehicles at the body shop. If its already unplugged, then its stupid not to use dielectric grease. The connector may never see moisture. But if it does, its protected.
Go easy on the die😂
Go easy on the dielectric grease a little goes a long way it actually a insulator I have seen bad connections caused by way to much dielectric grease
Ok, I have seen a melted dipstick!
Had a client bring his CX500 Honda into my shop saying it overheated and quit on him.
Went to check the oil, found a dipstick half melted away, and told him to take it to another shop.
You'd be surprised how few weights a high quality cast wheel with a decent tire actually needs. I always leave the factory stick on weights on the wheel because they're balancing the imbalance of the face of the wheel which is where all the weight is and doesn't usually change after replacing a tire and if the balancer wants you to add .25 oz every time you spin it you'll eventually put weight around the entire circumference of the wheel. A quarter ounce is nothing compared to a wheel and tire and weighs several pounds and the driver will never notice.
Always wild seeing bald tires. On my truck, the tires blow out before they even get too low. (Annoying). So i dont even get bald spots. Just *pop* "ope, tire decided it didnt want to exist anymore"
That transmission shifts just fine, from working to scrap metal...
1:43 some people underestimate the meaning of wheel nut/bolt torque. you can damage the thread, rip it out even, or warp the wheel. or... make it a major effort to remove one season later.
I once had an older Cherokee, I just wanted to check the brakes and remove one wheel. after the second nur ripped off right above the bolt's end I gave up on that. :P I'm not sure if the nuts were too soft, or somebody way overtorqued them wheels before.
3:33 bros have a bird in the shop
1:04 Tyre - This is why in Europe the tyres are deemed unroadworthy after 10 tears, irrespective of wear.
I had a Nissan Altima that sat for three yrs with a full tank of gas- when I started it itblew white smoke and smelled like linseed oil! Draind the tank/ flushed the lines and put new gas in her and she purrs like a kitten!
I understand the one that the radiator all of a sudden started to leak been there done that, old radiator Fat guy and laying across top of radiator working deep inside hood.
Cracked the plastic tank

Plastic dipstick in an automotive engine, huh. Never seen one before
That's a side by side
Welcome to Europe
Five cylinder Volvos use plastic dipstick for transmission
1:14 - eh, I drove a 1987 Hyundai Pony with NOS original Michelins that were even older than the car - 1985 - 0 miles when I put them on, they probably have less than 5,000 Km on it. A shop in BC (or so I am told) just gave the car a safety inspection.
The key is the climate - Tyres perish much more quickly when baked in the sunshine, so British Columbia is equivalent to keeping the tyres in a fridge. I live in the south of England and tyres look pretty new when 5 years old (obviously assuming you haven't done a load of miles on them), yet in southern Spain they look crusty and old after a single summer.
3:26 what causes smoke like that after sitting for a while? Lmao 😂
Could be a few different things. Water in the gas. Bad gasket letting coolant into the engine. Worn valve seals letting little bit of oil to slowly seep into the pistons. I'm sure there's more.
Those original tires from 2003 aren't may-pops! Those are WILL-POPS!!
The Hyundai Kia GDI strikes again lol
Why you dont use impacts on security lugs, says it on the package
Wait what 10k miles howw
Chrysler has some really really solid engines , as long as you take them apart and replace rings, pistons ,lifters, valves, and all the gaskets with stuff not made at the cheapest Chinese supplier they can find.
@sim6057138 10000k = 10 million
I think you meant 10k miles.
@@icedout2322😂 sounds like a "solid" project that'll cost you plenty. No thanks.
@@icedout2322 Never once have I
had any serious failure like that on a 3.6. Sure i have replaced a single BCM but those 3.6 Pentastars are hard to kill if you keep up with maintenance.
@@solohd1116 yea its really about oil and oil and of course oil. The failures ive had on the old 4.0s has always been a piston skirt on the last piston #6 easy to fix just a couple Saturdays and back on the road with all new gaskets and pistons and I usually replace water pump etc.
You're not suppose to use an impact on wheel locks. I know it sucks, it's annoying af, but most packages say no impact.
Ball joint just snapped. Sure buddy...
I can't tell from the video, but surely the tires at 1:20 aren't holding any air right? I've seen a few clips similar to this and I wonder how the cars even got to the shop in the first place
well, I've seen many videos where cars are driving on only 3 wheels.
Looks like only the outer wall has gone but the bead is stable. If they've been on that many years and it's warm/hot all year, it could hold air easily.
Never powerwash ur engine bay. Air blast or wipe with damp cloth thats all. Amazing how ppl still dont know this.
Get a proper car, we used to do this at a Toyota dealer for years. Not a single problem with that one.
Yup ive done it to all my cars and trucks for years. Just don't directly spray the computers. Not that hard
I wash my car with a regular hose. No pressure washer. Cover the alternator & fuse box with plastic bags. All other wires & sensors I never cover. Never had a problem.
Which Goodyear Is That At 3:07
I get they didn't use the correct weight oil in that PentaStar!
Sister had a used kia rio and neither me nor my dad checked the timing belt. She drove it for a year or so and the thing striped. Every single valve broke
Never power wash your engine bay. Lots can go wrong with the computers
I do it all the time. Just don't spray the computers directly like an idiot
2002 was a " Goodyear "
People should be held accountable for the danger they put others in by not keeping their car safe...
Imagine having an accident with one of these persons and seeing the state the other car was in
Driving some of these cars will cause people to die (repairs refused by customers).
😳
The editing of this video is terrible. The 2 blurred side windows make it next to impossible to focus on the actual footage. Not for me, thanks.
Wow! That Chrysler 3.6 is a POS engine. How did that ever pass its quality control tests?
plastic dipstick lmao
If a mechanical shop is playing rap "music" I'd turn around and leave
Why?
If it is the best shop, and you left over a type of music for a crappy shop that plays country music, that's your choice. Quality work is top priority to most people.
Alrighty.
You're doing the shop a favor with your judgemental ass
A temperature gauge getting hot???????? Learn proper English, bro...
That is proper English. It may not be the correct words being used though. But you should be able to understand the intended meaning without being a dick
I've never seen a gauge 'getting hot'. Will it turn red then? 🤣😂@@Semystic
