i always add water wetter. i change my antifreeze once a year depending on how much i ride it and the weather but thats me , kid is pretty inventive. does a good job
Thank you for your input.
Awesome video and of you explaining what and how to do it. 💯👍🏼🙂
Thank you for your comment!

Nice video but would love to see how you took the tank off. Ok, quick edit for anyone else who is attempting this. Just pull the back bolt off the tank and prop it up like O.P. mentioned. Easy process.
did you have to remove the handlebars at all to make room for the tank?
no removal of the handlbars
My radiator fluid is leaking from underneath the bike at the Overflow do you know what that is doing or why it's doing that
did you flush out old coolant with distilled water to ensure any sediment and contaminants are gone? its highly recommended you do.
i did not do that. i assume the sediments would flush out when its drained. some will be left behind.
the manual doesn't suggest that.
Did you have to disconnect vacuum hoses or wiring to remove the tank? Thanks.
here is a video of how to remove the gas tank.
the link is also included in the upper left corner of the video in the beginning...you have to click on the 'i'

Nice! Thanks!
I have a 2007 VTX 1300c and was wondering how often should the coolant be changed?
Hi. Manual says every 24k or 2 years.
I do it by miles...25k, 50k, 75k..
How do you fill the over flow bottle
You take off the left foot side cover next to the seat, the coolant reservior infill will be there
What hose did you use to feed in the fuel line and did you just pour gas into the bottle ? And how did you seal the hose around the bottle cap ?
sorry for the late reply. the hose is a 1/4" fuel line that fits into the hose for the carb.
i drilled a slightly smaller hole in the bottle cap and pushed the rubber hose through and i put JB weld on both sides of the cap.
What is the name of the lift you are using and where can I buy one for the VTX 1300? I have bad knees so kneeling isnt an option.
Got it from harbor freight. Use the 20 percent coupon...they will apply it when you ask them or get one online before you buy
Thanks for the video.
The fuel line you hooked up to is the one that would be connected to the petcock, correct?
Also, will a normal plastic container hold up with gas in it? It didn't start eating through the container?
the fuel line from the bottle connected to the line that comes from the carburetor to the petcock...it's the larger of the two pipes that connect to the petcock
as for what kind of a line, any line for that short duration will be fine....i just had xtra fuel or oil line sitting around that I used. the fuel did not eat through the container.
How many miles do you wait before doing a coolant change?
per manual every 2 years.
use one of these tools to know for sure if the liquid need changing:
amzn.to/3MnHgFO
WHICH WAY DO THE SPARK PLUG WIRE'S go
Can you clarify the question?
Hello friend, what manual do you need for vtx 1300 cc

you can download it from vtxcafe.com. go to 1300 forum and you will find the download link in the sticky thread
thank you for making this! I would love to see more VTX 1300 videos! I was wondering, is this a 1300c?
this is a 1300R...mechanically same bike.
This is a 1300 r
When and how often must you change coolant in VTX 1300 ?
i think it says every 10k miles...i'm leaving it in for at least 50k miles :)
Great video. Looks like you did the pair-valve mod as well, so did I. My question is how doable is burping the system and just raising the tank instead of the whole plastic bottle tank replacement deal? And also, how likely is it to be a problem if you just skip the burping process? thanks
thank you. please be sure to help me out by liking, sharing and subscribing.
i'm sure it possible to lift the back of the tank, but i think you'll have to raise it quite a bit....the restricting limit would be your handle bars...my risers pull the handle bar in and i can't tilt my tank much to gain access.
the other item is the fuel line connecting the tank to the petcock valve, that would need to be disconnected.
you need to burp the system, otherwise you might not even get water flow due to air pocket...and if it does flow at some point, the coolant level will be low and you'll overheat either way.
I did the flush with distilled water. Previous owner used green coolant and, I went for Honda Type 2. Now that I have it flushed. I was able to get 2 quarts in (almost). The fan did kick on after quite some time (with cap off and, some over spill). I was able to put the rest of the 2nd quart in. But, I couldn't get even half of the 3rd quart in. Is the .9 quarts supposed to top off and then fill the, reservoir?
i had no issue putting that fluid in ... how much did you end up putting in?
Title of video is Coolant Change, I didn't see any draining or adding of new coolant. Did I miss something? All this shows is how to warm up the engine to open up the thermostate. How and where is the drain plug, how do you empty the resovoir? What's the water mix to coolant, what type of coolant, should it be distilled water or does it matter? Never mind, I'll find a video that shows and explains what I want to know.
Thank for sharing your questions. Your comments duly noted for next video.
I've added a time breakdown to show the information i've shared in the video
HOW MANY LITERS?
approx 3 liters
How much is enough for 1300, mate? Could I refill this direct from rubber hose at the tank (near by the horn).....due to so complicated for me to remove seats, tanks....
by doing it as you are suggesting, you will not be able to burp the system (remove air pockets in the system). if there are any air pockets left in the system, you could end up where you do not have coolant circulation.
if you are not doing a coolant flush/change, and only topping off the coolant level....that is done through the pipe spout that is in the left side cover.
Ok man, I did as your video clip but there's still a problem.....looks like my vtx is hotter than other, sometimes the engine shut down when I'm riding on the street, I have to wait for few minutes....then it's ok to continue, please advise. Thanks in advance.
Đức Trí Lâm, did you make sure you saw the fluid start to flow when looking through the opening (pressure cap opening) when you burped the system?
if so then you coolant pump must pumping fluid and you don't have blockage in the system. in that case, the problem must be elsewhere with the overheating.
post your question on vtxcafe.com or vtxoa.com and someone will chime in and give you suggestions.
why not use a siphon and suck the antifreeze through the filler tube???
you sure can do that. i wanted to clean out the bottle.
Is that the breather tube for the gas tank hanging down by the reservoir tank? I recently noticed mine in the same position. Hadn't noticed it there before.
yes, that is it.
footprintsinconc and it’s ok in that position? Just hanging there? I’ve always changed my oil and I never noticed it until I was on a long ride over to the Tail Of The Dragon on the 4th of July.

sorry, can you post in english?
I used the Prestone gm dexcool like you did in the video , now I read bad things about that coolant type , do you think I should drain and flush it out ? have you had any jelling oroblems using it ?? thanks Dan
cyn farn, as long as it says phosphate and silicate free you are good....no issues here yet many years later.
thanks , had me worried .
The issue comes from mixing Dex-Cool with other types of coolants. Regular green Prestone contains silicates , that tend to cause a gelling issue when mixed with Dex, or similar long life coolants. Dex-Cool was designed for Chevrolet aluminum block engines to keep cooler and last longer, and doesn’t use the same chemical additives package that your typical antifreeze did. Honda’s coolant is silicate and phosphate free, so Dex Cool should pose no problem if you don’t get it all out before adding back.
If you have any other information regarding coolant change it would be appreciated because when I take the side cover off my VTX (2007) the drain plug does not look like this video. In all
fairness what is in you video is also in the Clymer manual but NOT ON MY bike. Unfortunately this comment section doesn't allow me to attach a picture. I've removed a few different screws near the thermostat housing but no coolant comes out. IT'S FREAKING DRIVING ME NUTS!
post a link of the picture that you have uploaded to google or other online albums...or email it to me at footprintsinconcrete@gmail.com
this is a 2007 vtx1300....is your an 1800 or 1300?
were is the fill for your small tank below
The fill for the small tank for coolant is behind the cover located underbthe seat on the right side of the bike
HI, I am doing the same and just to make sure when the bike is on with the cap of, the thermostat once it opens that overflow pours out rapidly? It just spills everywhere so how i know is getting rid of the air pockets ?
once its hot and the thermostat opens up, while you give throttle, it's keep flowing...but when you lay off the throttle, that's when it flows out. it doesn't gush out or anything like but if you a towel in place, you will be able to catch what falls out.
footprintsinconc
Oh my thank you so much I am missing the throttle part and still having air issues! I have no way to thank you, You actually responded and at the same day I asked !!!!!!!!!! Thank YOU !!!!!!!!!
you said you had a leak. Did you figure out what was causing the leak? My friend has the same problem with his VTX
HWk Fan, no I didn't. I need to start riding again to see if I still have the issue or not. I have ridden the bike like 10 round trips to and from work since the video and haven't lost any fluid yet.
How did you fill resivior tank
Riding With MOOSE!
you fill the reservoir from the port that is behind the left side cover of the bike...let me know if you need a pic.
footprintsinconc could you please send me a picture to panama77@verizon.net... i have a 2007 vtx C thanks so much
Good men,,,,felicity
Thx!
But like you disarming all bike for do that where is the rear tire
the bike does not need to be jacked up either.
i was working on a bunch of other items when i made this video.
alguien save como se regula la mescla de aire y gasolina de una honda vtx 1,300 ?

I chang my coolant just like you showed, drove down the road an it stop running. Now as long as its sitting it will run fine ,but you put it in gear it shut off what do i do now
sounds strange. it sounds like a safety relay of some sort may be shutting the engine. i notice you posted 2 days ago, did you find the issue?
Did u figure out sounds like kickstand safety switch
I need to know where my spark plug wires go I unhooked all my wires I forgot how to put them back🫤
got it.
the front coil powers the front cylinder
the rear coil powers the rear cylinder.
2 plugs in each cylinder.
when come off the front or the back coil, it doesn't matter which side you go, but the wire size will dictate that.
I'm a bit unclear about how you cleared the plastic reservoir. You removed the hose and somehow put compressed air and blew it out of the top hose? Hmmm.. That I would have to see. I think I will pull the hose off and siphon it out with a smaller hose. No, not with my mouth. A small pump.
that is certainly one way of doing it. i didn't want to pull out my siphon pump and do that and then end up cleaning it for a quick few pump job.
the spout on that reservoir is at the bottom, so any amount of compressed air from the infill hole will push out all liquid from the lowers spout.
Ok. So I misunderstood what you said. I thought you said you blew from the bottom and it came out the top. But it's visa versa. It think I can wangle that.
I cringed when I saw the Dex-Cool. Any air in the system gets dumped into the reservoir tank under the bike.
Why cringe on seeing dex cool?
Stay away from dex it's not good coolant. Rots gaskets.
what do you suggest then?
@@footprintsinconc coolonol is a good one for bikes.
@@footprintsinconc Safest thing to buy is 1 gallon bottle of Honda type 2 from Honda car dealership. Usually comparable in price to aftermarket solutions, within a couple of dollars. When I changed my Goldwing's coolant, I think it was less than $21 with tax. M/C dealers price is crazy for a quart bottle of the same coolant.!
Screw Dex-A-Cool bad stuff
What do you suggest then?
What a pain in the A$$! Piss poor engineering.
How do you remove the old coolant from the reserve tank?
Get yourself a little rubber ball hand pump, it pump it right out, there pretty cheap, Thats what i used
