- The Specials, also known as The Special AKA, are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry. Their music combines a "danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude". Lyrically they present a "more focused and informed political and social stance" than most other ska groups.
The band wore mod-style "1960s period rude boy outfits (pork pie hats, tonic and mohair suits and loafers)". In 1980, the song "Too Much Too Young", the lead track on their The Special AKA Live! EP, reached No. 1 in the UK. In 1981, the unemployment-themed single "Ghost Town" also hit No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart.
RIP Terry Hall. The world won't be the same without you 💔
What an underrated Fantastic Band ,one of the all time greatest bands .
No underrated by me
i realize it is kind of off topic but do anybody know a good website to watch newly released movies online?
@Leo Samir Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
For real for real
They were never underestimated
RIP Terry...forever a legend in our ska community
They were bigger than ska. The Specials were just that. RIP TERRY, RIP John Bradbury!
This band may never be mentioned in the same breath as the Stones or Beatles, but they did more to tackle issues within society than any band I can remember, why no recognition, Knighthood etc, long may the boys keep skanking.
It's still underground bro. Its probably always gunna be it kinda sucks lol
@@kameronnaeole7680 They weren't underground, the had 2 UK number 1s and 5 other top 10 UK hits and 2 top 5 UK albums... they were very much in the mainstream
Most people don't even know what ska is
@@kameronnaeole7680 Underground?? They had 2 number 1 hits. How is that underground??
@@lennywebb6740 because no one knows who the specials are, at least here in the U.S
I’m singing along through the tears - God bless the Specials! X
Amazing song 🎵 still sounds brilliant!! Ska never dates!love the specials!
I get you man, it had the same effect on me.
R.I.P. Rico

1of my favorite Tracks of all time
This song as relevant today as when it was written. Rip Terry 💔
Their first album was superb when released and forty years later is still regarded as a classic....some legacy!
RIP Terry legend !
Genius. Hall will be missed.
God Bless T.H the best 💃🙏
My favourite Specials tune..rip Terry Hall
Great days when gigs were spontaneous, cheap & you could actually touch the stage. Today, you often have just a few minutes to buy a very overpriced ticket online months, sometimes over a year in advance & if you manage to be at the front, you are still 10-20' from the stage. I still love going to gigs but I really miss those carefree days.
55007. Pinza,💪
To me, it's a commentary on the human experience. Not really living, just going through the motions. Especially appropriate during Covit19 times.
Fuckin agree...this music is so relevant politically ...
Sis, i'm really sorry for you, you're just that person in the music
And didn't get anything
Best video on youtube.
I have been looking for this footage for about 38 years and today just stumbled across it by accident! I remember seeing The Specials sing Do Nothing with Terry Hall wearing that blue suit. They must have shown this on some TV programme at the time. It isn't on Dance Craze and the only version of them singing Do Nothing I have found since is the Christmas jumper one from Top of the Pops. I was starting to think I had dreamt this after all these years. God knows what it was shown on but this is definitely the one I remember.
Yeah, this looks a bit earlier than the Christmas jumper TOTP, Terry's still got a crew cut and the band are wearing 1979/80 gear.
It's part of the unused footage filmed for Dance Craze. It was all filmed during the 2 tone tour in summer 1980 when I think they toured mainly around UK seaside resorts.
@@stumagoo2395 This really is a gem. This was not available to watch on Dance Craze or any other Specials video you could buy years ago. Long live UA-cam! Love it!
TOTP played this in very late Dec 80/ early Jan 1981 and I too searched for it for years. Was on 2-3 weeks after the Xmas jumpers edition which was xmas week 1980. It is a Dance Craze outtake but I also heard talk it was used as European promo video. I wonder if its never been on Uk Gold / BBC 4 etc due to certain DJs/TOTP presenters who are now disgraced.
It would be great to get an extended cut of Dance Craze with all the footage they filmed, if it's all still out there. Or a DVD extra....
Thanks for this live version, love it so much! Great to see Terry wearing the blue suit, love that cool ska look, takes me back I'm 13 again and in love with Terry xxxx
My favourite band . I was 13 when they released Gangsters saw them on top of the pops and I was blown away. I've followed them ever since.
@@nigelhughes4182 hi, the specials are touring this year! Got to see them live, can't wait! 🙂
@@Sally-lg1vn yes definitely got to see them again. All the songs mean so much . Such a brilliant time to be a teenager
@@nigelhughes4182 I was twelve ! Can remember that TOTP debut like it was yesterday. Couldn't take my eyes off Terry Hall !
Any big shots out there thinking you are the best thing ever sat behind your computer programming in ya beats!! This is a real band with real musicians. Take note!!
Jason Freshwater spot on 👍
Rest in peace Terry Hall
Remember seeing them at The Rainbow theatre as a 12 year old skinhead with my mates in London. Great memories
This song inspires us to Do Something! A great wake up song to us misguided working classes.
RIP Terry. I will always love you & appreciate the impact you had in my life. That summer was awful, but you guys got me through it! RIP 💔
God Bless The Specials makes me feel 11yrs young again 🙏
My favourite Special's song.
Amazing beauliful song, 4m an amazing beautiful band, god bless them xx,
Please help I wont to go back to 79 if anyone has a time machine.
Moody mods love it 😊😊😊
God watching this makes me wanna cry. One of my favourite songs ever. Hope I get to see them one day although seeing them like this would’ve been amazing.
The Specials understood race relations and did more for racial harmony then any politician or government ever did.and the racist thatcher government and her footsoldiers, otherwise known as the police made things a lot worse.rip terry.your band were one of the most important in british musical history.
This was recorded on the Seaside Specials tour that ran from June 4th-19th, starting in Great Yarmouth and finishing in Portsmouth.
RIP Terry Hall we All Miss you so very much
uncle Rico RIP
Never seen this live version before. It's one of my favourite Specials records and the lyrics are just so damn true.
Hopefully one day all these unreleased recordings will be available to buy on DVD or CD.
Thanks for sharing this video... love it!!!
The GOAT.
where did you take this? awesome!!!!
Is he wearing eye liner? 😳
16 at the time absolutely brilliant. Sadly things do change often for the worse.
I like this more than the album version! Amazing band 🤩
Uk 2tone. Ska is aReality. Subculture ❤😂😂❤
I’ve always preferred the single release version of this song to the album version as it has the electronic string sounds on the 7 inch release that really adds to the whole atmosphere of the song. This live version was from summer 1980.
The music is so good ass worth to listen to again and again ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
How wonderful is this? Are these extra tracks from Dance Craze?
katoness yes they are
They need to release it as a dvd with the extra tracks.
katoness fingers crossed
this is a brilliant find. love the rawness in this live version. one my favourite songs from the specials. vastly underrated in my opinion.
@@RudeSkaBoy007 yes mate same
My first introduction to reggae, never left it ever since
Que buen registroo
como me duele que tipos como rico rodriguez y john bradbury ya no estén, una gran pérdida para la música, aun no lo puedo superar y pasarán años mientras los demás de los specials también en algún momento nos tengan que dejar.
Unity npeace 2tone rule
Sad news... RIP Terry Hall
Along with The Jam the best two groups between 1979-82.
A masterpiece. Thank you for this up load.
never seen this.
I’m just livin’ in a life without….meaning.
RIP Terry 😢😢😢
There will only be imitators from here on out
the BEST version of this song. Jerry's little hammond difference in the verses is great!!
Real band Real music
Ah the days when chart music had a consince unlike the algorithm pap we get today.
God, he was beautiful.
I come back to this video every fuckin week, The Specials really are one of the greatest. Sucks knowing there will never be music like this again. Music nowadays is beyond garbage, and as cliche as it is I was born in the wrong generation.
Init mate music today is shit
So do I! Love the Specials, the music, the look! 🙂
Listen gorillaz they have the same aura/ maybe the same spirit
I wore my 45 out having it on repeat
Happy teenage memories of this band 😊
Wouldn't mind watching all this concert
Classic toon😊😊😊
rest in peace terry hall 💔🕊
damn this so fwking goodddd!!! tq bro...
love it eric from holland
RIP Terry Hall
Nothing like this song when your having a really bad day, I should know I've had a few of them.
R.I.P Terry! Man, The Specials are one of the best bands ever!! Not just in the old school Ska/Two-Tone genre, but all around the boards do they rip!
Was this filmed in Norway?
Apparently Chrysalis are soon going to be re-releasing various 2 Tone material and it may include some previously unreleased stuff. Fingers crossed they release some of The Specials live material from 1980-81. Roddy even said on The Specials forum they recorded other stuff back then in the studio which has never been made available for the general public to hear.
RIP Terry 😪
The Specials were absolutely in tune with the pulse of the vast majority of people, not just in Coventry but throughout Englan.
1st single I ever bought along with Special Brew by Bad Manners...... Happy days... #ska
Sin duda una de las mejores bandas que he escuchado, muy subestimada por la industria musical por las letras de sus canciones consideradas transgresoras probablemente 😮
Long live the rude boys
goddamn that's beautiful
Fantastic!!
actually "Ghost Town" is not about unemployment so much as racial violence that was plaguing the Specials, the Selector, the Beat, mixed bands, where racist skinheads would mash up music venues and gigs were getting cancelled. But true much of their fans and others related to it because of the bleak economic times, no one had much money to go out and party.
It’s very much about economics being the root cause of modern social behaviour. Poverty is a terrible thing. It crushes the spirit, makes you do things you never dreamed of.
Been 5 days, really miss not having him in this world, feels colder.
So great! We will miss you Terry but thanks so much!!@
Shit hot😎👌
RIP Terry lad X
RIP Terry Hall
They were the days. Miss 79 and early 80 music. Miss the early 80s
So glad they are back on the scene with a #1 album
So glad you all ❤️ love it and it brings back memories ❤️
any more from this gig?
Fare un capolavoro così a 20 anni...

Terry Hall, the thinking mans Suggs.
Back again RI.P TERRY +JOHN .B

In with my top 2 bands along with Madness.
By the clothes and haircuts this is definitely earlier than when it was released and on TOTP wearing Christmas jumpers.
I think this was filmed during the 2 tone tour in the summer of 1980 as all the dance craze footage was taken from that tour.
@@stumagoo2395 cheers Stu.
1980 not 1981
GORA SAN FERMÍN UOHHHHH!!
Rest in peace terry hall
When I here these tunes 😊
