Dentist did exactly what you’re talking about but failed to tell me I’d still have pain lmao. I want to … I just want to go to sleep for a long, LONG TIME 😓
I’ve been researching this for a few days and you are the only resource that explained it can go away on its own as long as you can manage the pain. Thanks.
I am currently dealing with a dry socket. My tooth was a difficult extraction so this explains the pain. The clot really never fully developed so by day 3 it was over the top radiating to the ear and eye. Thanks for explaining what you did. Either I was so uncomfortable from the broken tooth to begin with that I didn’t retain the info. I appreciate the thoroughness.
Took my tooth out yesterday, woke up 10min ago in soo much pain it still feels like my nerves are angry as if I never took the rotten tooth out. I was so confused, thank you for this video.
Finally a helpful video on dry socket, I’ve been in agony for the past few days and has to wait out the weekend before going back. I had a wisdom and impacted molar pulled 4 days ago. Idiot dentist told me it’d be like this for 5 more weeks but all the information I can find is a few more days so I’m relieved to see that. Thank you for the information!
One good tip, for anyone having to do an extraction to reduce the chances of having a dry socket. Have a deep clean done beforehand on the same day, by scaling and cleaning your mouth of tartar and plaque, it gets rid of a lot of bacteria which would otherwise affect the bloodclot, so this in essence will prep your mouth for the extraction. It will cost more, but will help to heal your extraction quicker and leave your mouth feeling fresh.
this is very helpful. a detailed explanation of dry socket. i just had a difficult extraction and developed dry socket. wish i saw this video earlier wouldn’t have had to withhold the pain for so long before i went back to the dental clinic.
@@theonewnocensor like many have said, you're going to feel the pain and it'll probably be the most painful thing you've ever felt in your life. Even saying it's extremely painful is an understatement.
@@fififairuzfuyooo I had dry socket with no pain still went in to get it checked and now I'm in the worst pain because of the paste. Straight up made it hurt when it didn't. I regret going in I still have it in there and it's doing nothing rn
After my surgery I loved that my doctor gave me a paper with all the things that I should or shouldn't do and the time schedule for those actions. Otherwise I think I would forget half of the things he said.
That's a great point. Lots of times during the post-op discussion with a patient, I am certain they're just wanting to get home to take it easy. We try to hand these out at our office so it's good to know that someone reads them! All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia my nurse explained a few things to me before the surgery but I wish I had a paper to read later cause I made mistakes ,,😭 3rd day and I'm feeling more pain on one extraction. It's not severe but def not going away fully with the meds. I'm having follow up soon
@@OnlineExodontia my dentist gave me one of those. Unfortunately, I messed up on two things. 1. Was that I didn't know how hard i had to bite on gauze, so I bled fora few hours. 2. I missed a part of the paper that told me I should avoid rinsing, which is something I did when I got home a few hours after the dentist appointment (this was before I properly bit on gauze). I am currently on day 6, and it appears that I am healing normally. One of my sutures fell out today. I hope that won't be troublesome in the future.
Hey y'all clove oil was a life saver when i had dry socket and couldn't get to a dentist every couple days. Once i was diagnosed i got it cleaned out, kept it cleaned out and then used clove oil on gauze on it and its the only thing that touched the pain. Weird i know, but if you have a dry socket youll try anything desperately to relieve the pain. I tried this that someone told me and it worked. Now im sharing it anytime i see dry socket cause that was literally the worst.
Thank you! I am 15 and got all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out last Monday. I started to feel pain about 3 days post op. I am now one week post op and am still in pain. I NEVER cry from pain and I think I cry now 3 times a day whenever my meds stop working. It was so bad I woke up at 3 in the morning for the past three nights in pain. The pain was so bad it would radiate my entire face to the point where I thought I was going to vomit. I’ve been taking my prescribed meds (which have now run out) and Tylenol and Advil. THEY DID NOTHING! Thank you so much for this video I go back to see my doctor in two days.
You bet Davis...sorry you've been enduring that. Dry socket is a challenging thing that unfortunately happens sometimes and it can be pretty debilitating. All the best in your recovery!
omg i totally understand where you’re coming from.I’m sorry for you.I’ve had my 2 impacted bottom teeth removed like 2 weeks ago & 3 days post op i started to feel EXCRUTIATING PAIN like h22/24 it was so horrible that at that time i felt like i’d rather have someone shooting me so i can stop feeling this level of pain. It radiated through my jaw & face & all the meds they gave me did nothing. Also if i didn’t search online i would never have known what i had because my dentist told me that it was totally normally for me to feel this pain & that i didnt need to go back to his office.
@@DroidMastertaylor-gang-or-die yes exactly, even after they covered it with a paste and applied local Anesthesia and I took heavy pain killers- I still felt every single thing. The only thing I could do was sit and cry and take more pain killers.
Great information, it is useful to know that the pain will gradually subside in approximately 7 days. Also to know That it is a common complication from surgery, and it will heal on its own with growth over the hole. If one can deal with the pain using ibuprofen, no need to go to the dentist. Thank you, this is a great help!
Best explanation I have been able to find on the internet in the last 48 hours of pain. It is day 5 and Just knowing that this will start to subside on its own is the most beneficial to me as I don't have the money for continued care. Thank you for managing to care from so very far away 🤗💛
Great to hear! If your symptoms aren’t improving it is possible that there could be causes other than dry socket so keep that in mind and be sure to follow up with your provider. All the best and thanks for the kind words!
I just had a tooth extracted today, great doctor, but didn't really explain much and honestly I have learned more from speaking to others who have had this done and this video helped A LOT! I don't have dry socket as it was done just a few hours ago, but I am trying to do EVERYTHING I can to avoid this nightmare. I have been a pack a day smoker for nearly 6 years and I haven't had a single one since I left the office... I am about ready to slam my head through the wall but I figure the nicotine cravings must be better than dry socket.. not taking any chances. Thanks for the video, if I can survive this one, I got all 4 wisdoms coming on in July... I guess this is my practice run
Yes the dry socket is way worse than craving. The dry socket pain is horrible pain worse then the toothache had to go and get my socket packed that was painful but worth it the medication took the pain away that was on the guaze
This has been exponentially helpful. Experiencing dry socket after a traumatic removal. I have been on a high hormone birth control for endo and had no idea that could affect a tooth extraction. Going through hell trying to heal. This helped easy my mind about the process and give me some hope for a light at the end of the tunnel.
Going through this now. I Take estradiol. Hum. Also, thought I was supposed to rinse vigorously to rinse out the oatmeal I’ve been eating for 5 days straight. So painful. I’m so happy my dentist was in today and saw me on Friday afternoon. I’m Better already.
Thank you, I just got my dry socket packed on Monday and I was worried because last night I started feeling pain again, it was less, but same pain. It would have been nice for my dentist to tell me that after packing it, it wouldn’t be a forever relief but more of a temporary relief. Thanks for the video!
i got my wisdom teeth out a week ago and have been so scared i was gonna get a dry socket.. i followed every rule though as much as it sucked not being able to eat and drink the stuff i love and my mouth has healed healthy :)
@@danniellajohnson5025 i just ate mostly soft foods like mashed potatos, applessauce, and jello the first 2 days. then i moved to semi soft foods like eggs and avocado. by like day 5 i was able to chew pasta and sort of chewy foods. by day 7 i ate almost everything except spicy foods and very crunchy foods. by day 10 i was able to go back to my complete diet. but everyone is different and some people heal at different rates. also make sure to salt water rinse your mouth after every meal for about a week just to make sure food does not get in the socket.
Great video. Thank you so much. I am healing from dry socket right now. I am about 5 days in from my surgery and the pain is slowly wearing off. I was considering asking the dentist for treatment, but you're video helped encourage me to wait and allow my clot to form instead
Fr when I went back my surgeon was only gonna irrigate one side but I made him do both. Surprise surprise I have two dry sockets and he won’t refill my pain meds
Wow you are so good at explaining ! Thank you so much , I wish we had more teachers like you back in the university . Thanks a lot, greetings from Athens , Greece
Man I’m getting over mine good god why Dry Sockets are a thing is literally the worst I was dying literally for a whole week with that pain it was god awful I mean it’s still here but it’s not as bad as it was
hohohoda n when the dentist pulls it out a blood clot is supposed to form in the hole after he’s done it’s why they tell you not to suck through the straw, smoke and other stuff because the sucking motion can dislodge the blood clot and if you do (which I did) it leaves the hole open leaving exposed bone and the pain is just god awful your whole side of the face throbs and it just feels horrible you don’t want to get one try your best to avoid it but if you do end up getting one you can go back to the dentist they have this awesome stuff that takes the pain away it’s called Dry Socket Paste it tastes horrible but once you get it in oh my god it’s like such a relief lol I had to do that once and not again lol
KeybladeScar why did you not listen to the dentist lol 😭😭 I’m still scared i’m gonna get it because i sometimes catch myself making a sucking motion with my mouth and i have no idea why i do it.... IM LITERALLY SO SCARED
hohohoda n don’t worry to much it’s a common thing that people do it’s just being human ya know but yeah don’t worry to much getting a Dry Socket it pretty common in some people and I happen to be one of them I’m just glad the pain is over but it’ll take about 2 to 3 weeks to heal and also when you eat try your best not to chew on the side where your teeth are out cause food gets stuck in there but are you getting your Wisdom Teeth pulled?
Unreal pain, I had it took a solid 3 weeks to subside , pure agony, cudnt eat, cud not sleep, struggled to talk, went through boxes of painkillers like sweets, back to dentist 4 times, on antibiotics done evrything the said but this was torture. Was up during night with frozen peas on face. Anyone who gets this I feel for them.
@Gaz Ring gbgjg ggG : Im day 2 after wisdom extraction - Your experience is my worst fear. I'm practically getting anxiety attacks just thinking about it as I have some bad mouth odour and that is supposed to be a sign. What can I do if anything to pre empt it or something? I cannot stand that amount of pain.
@@painless4785 hopefully you’ll be ok, my advice will be ring up dentist straight away and get them to check it and pack the hole, it’s the exposure to open nerves and bone that caused all of my pain. Take care.
Very rarely do I comment on a UA-cam video, but thank you so much. You have been so informative just even at a patients stand point and helped put a lot of fears and worries to rest. Thank you so much.
Currently dealing with dry socket on the left bottom side of my mouth. It’s day 9 since my wisdom teeth removal and I’m in a lot of pain. I’m going back to the oral surgeon tomorrow to get it checked out.
I got a extraction of a tooth and developed a dry socket that was worse pain than the toothache. So went back to dentist he packed my socket with gauge and medicine was on the gauge that he packed my socket with, that was painful also packing the socket, but after a few mins after he was done no more pain was in relief and no hurting. It works great packing the dry socket only pain is when he was packing my socket, its amazing medicine to use
I was recommended to goto an oral surgeon for 1 wisdom tooth. Got a dry socket and I was in pain from day 3-5 and I tried calling the office but my calls went unanswered (Friday). Let the weekend pass and showed up to their office first thing on Monday and they had the audacity to say “why didn’t you let us know sooner” I had a horrible infection and now I have to restart the process. Never going back there again.. Don’t wish this pain upon anyone
@@shreya-tl1mv healed up but the process took much longer than it should I still get food stuck where they took the tooth out. I just use a syringe to rinse it out
I ain’t gon lie. This is suicidal type pain. I ain’t never been suicidal until I had to deal with this. Thoughts every morning I woke up of putting a gun right through my jaw.
Great I just realized I had a dry socket 2 weeks after my wisdom teeth extraction. Calling my dentist ASAP tomorrow. *edit actually it looks clean for now as it doesn’t look infected
@@gotnokush thanks. My sockets had stitches but like there’s still a hole there. I have been rinsing it though to remove food particles that I assumed was the clot but it wasn’t upon closer inspection.
Thank you so much! My procedure was so scary bc i woke up to them breaking my teeth and they even cut my lip with how rough they were getting it out, no wonder I'm in all this pain. Between that and the root they left (there was a reason) ive been miserable. Im calling a surgeon today but this is so helpful for me to understand what's going on!
@@wesleygarcia3363 They told me I was going to sleep in the consultation, then day of said "oh wait, no, just going to make you feel sleepy so you don't remember". Apparently they didn't read my chart either so I was wide awake the whole time due to resistance from previous surgeries. Thank god the numbing agent worked.
Thank you I just had a success teeth extraction wisdom teeth removal and had nitrous oxide and valium no problem was happy with the end result I am blessed 🎉
Doctors need to stop relying on conversation to instruct the patient of what to do. Important details can be easily missed or forgotten especially when the patient is already managing pain and stress when they come in. The on paper directions my oral surgeon gave me don't even allude to the need to keep a blood clot in place. Just reading through it otherwise uninformed the gauze is just for stopping the bleeding and "dry socket" is caused by smoking. The instruction sheet never even tells you what dry socket is.
Had a traumatic tooth extraction about 4 days ago - the tooth broke before it could come out in full .. 4days later and I still have pain in the site. A top molar pulled 1/8 and it’s just so painful. I hope it can be over soon.
Buy a plastic or rubber tipped syringe from the drug store. Too many dentists send us home without something to properly flush out the socket. If you're having bottom teeth removed, it's a very high chance of happening no matter how careful you are. I used it to flush with salt water and the pain substantially improved by doing that. Applying some orajel or any other brand around the gums was also another life saver. The ibprofen and Tylenol did an okay job, but it really only takes the edge off when you're dealing with dry socket. Just my two cents after dealing with absolute agony for 5 days, lol.
Haha mate taking the 800mg ibuprofen and two panadol hospital dentist wont treat dry socket as they only prioritise extraction patients. Im just leaving it and washing with mouth wash and have antibiotics for the infection on my lymphnode. Have no idea if its going to heal but heres hoping. Day 4 now 🤪
Nice explanation thank you. I had 4 teeth taken out and one of them developed dry socket. I’m hoping I’m already well into the 7-10 day healing process..
The last reason with the force may be the reason I’m probably experiencing dry socket. The dentist was pulling and twisting so hard to get the tooth out because my root was curved
Dealing with this right now. What I'm really worried about is residual food debris. The pain is manageable, and I've only been eating 'solid' food once or twice a day. Otherwise it's yogurt or low sugar smoothies. I take ibuprofen, then eat, and by the time I'm done eating and giving my teeth a quick brush, that's when I grab my monoject to irrigate the food out of the socket. That way the medicine is fully kicking in by then. My worry is that it seems like I can never get all the particles out, there's always a little bit that doesn't want to lift out and clings to the interior. It waves around and looks like if I just irrigated harder it would flush out, but I don't want to be too aggressive on such a sensitive area. The roots still have clots in the bottoms of them and I'd hate to dislodge them. There's some exposed bone between the roots and I think that's what's causing the discomfort. For clarification, it's a lower first molar and the clot never formed properly and was almost completely gone by the third day. Everytime I would eat anything there was a little less there when I went to irrigate. For irrigation and mouth rinsing, I bought a 12 pack of 12 oz bottled water and use 1 - 1 1/2 tsp of fine table salt to create a clean saline rinse solution. Like I said, the pain is manageable. I'm just concerned about the residual food particles that don't want to come out. I may try using a tiny amount of hydrogen peroxide to water. I found this video very helpful. It made me feel better to know that it will heal on it's own.
Man I read the directions and everything since I was kind of numb so everything the dentist was telling me wasn't catching on. I was very nervous to begin with.
I did something like this- I was working a month long gig (no days off) and got my bottom right wisdom removed the day prior to my flight to my gig. I smoked, I ate crunchy things, then met my match on about day 4. Thank God my Dentist gave me tons of amoxicillin, Ibuprofen, and Tylenol, or I wouldn’t have been able to make it. I would clean the site myself by removing any food with one of those poke tools, and tweezers/ cotton swabs, and then rinse the site with salt water. I then would brush my teeth & I had medicated toothpaste at the time for my gums, so I figured it would help. Afterwards, I would rinse again and then squeeze oragel inside and packing wet gauze in the hole- following up with taking one ibuprofen 500 & one Tylenol 500 & amoxicillin. Slowly it got better, and then I realized the gums were healing/ closing. I feel no pain as of now (2 months later) but it definitely took about 16/17 days post extraction to finally have a 90% better sense of relief.
I'm on day 4 right now and it's been the worst. I almost vomited from the pain. I had my general dentist pull the tooth and it ended up being a traumatic extraction. The tooth broke into 4 pieces and it was like 4 extractions in 1. The first day was sore but tolerable, days two and three it felt a lot better, then BAM day 4 I had gum pain, jaw pain and it was unbearable. It's Friday evening so I can't see my dentist until Monday. Ibuprofen and Tylenol have not helped. The only thing that worked was today I went and got Red Cross Toothache with eugenol and packed the socket with it - I was worried it was going to sting bad and it didn't - you just have to be very careful not to touch other parts of your mouth it will sting - but it's decreased the pain probably by 80% and has made it at least tolerable until it's over and can see my dentist.
Thank you for your clear and informative video 🙂 So I'm on day 2, and I have unknowingly done all the things I shouldn't have : used a straw (to drink soup), smoked (only about 5 a day) and ended up spitting the clot out whilst trying to sleep thinking it was a bit of food stuf in there. Ive learnt I have dry socket with the symptoms of that foul saliva taste, smelly breath and swollen glands under my jaw and round my ear. I've been running with salt water and have put a fresh gaunt in then ringed my mouth with mouth wash to prevent that taste seeping through - seems to do the trick... But would that infect / irritate the gum?
One of the receptionist told me to put Clove oil on the dry socket. It does take some of the pain out but this condition is just flat out miserable! It works a little tho which is better than nothing!
My dentist had to drill on my jaw bone to get my tooth out for whatever reason and now even though I can't see a hole or a socket I feel like I have a dry socket. It was a week ago yesterday so this is the 8th day. Didn't feel the pain till about the 6th day. Rinsing with salt water and taking motrin . Hoping this will go away soon without having to go back and have him cut me open again.
Having dry socket right now, because of part of blood clot washed away a week ago. I took painkillers containing Diplofenak Epolamin three times each day and was rinsing my mouth with Baking soda mixed in warm water after eating and before sleeping. Baking soda and water mixture was especially good to ease the swelling and pain. Today is the first day that my pain is easing after a week and I did not take any painkillers.
Thank you so much for the information I got my tooth pulled on Monday and its Saturday waking up each day thinking it would get better being woken up by a pain I thought it was effected I was going to go to the ER I will try this but without the packing gaze . I been using Advil and its been helping manage my pain but I was worried because I was thinking as the days pass it would get better but I was still feeling pain thanks again for this video ❤
I don’t know if I have dry socket this is my third day and it’s still aching I don’t taste nor smell any bad odor in my mouth but I’m having anxiety having this because of the ache and the ache around the area because my dentist haven’t said anything what are the do’s and don’ts so I’m basically just searching online. I don’t smoke, didn’t brush my teeth really for a day after the extraction, did the cold compress and salt water, didn’t drink from straw and just eat porridge until now. Day 2 evening, that’s when I started to feel the pain, I’m going back to my dentist just to make sure.
Great video, very useful. First tooth extraction of top pre molar and yesterday The clot came away now I have a bad smell coming from the tooth but no pain other than general feelings of the tooth extraction. After being able to photograph it I’m noticing a white pus with smell in the socket so I can only imagine is infection :( any tips for self help while waiting for an appointment with my dentist??? Any home remedies or over-the-counter products for helping clean out the infection??
Excellent video and explanation of Dry Socket! I'm going to Subscribe to your channel and learn more! 5 days post extractions for dentures with 10 teeth removed, very sore but no dry socket and I suppose I'm in the clear at this point. Learning all I can about the process and I appreciate Drs. like you who share the info where laymen can access it! Bless you! An informed patient is a good patient.
This is very interesting video, I got a very difficult extraction on my superior wisdom last Monday today is a Days 7 I’m still in pain, I am taking antibiotics plus ibuprofen to reduce the pain, I went back to my dentist 2 days ago cause I was worried he said I have to keep taking the medication until the dry socket can healed, im very anxious and don’t know how long I will get better
I smoke 6 cigarettes a day and after pulling my tooth I smoked 2. But your video gave me relieved about smoking not causing any damage to clot but avoiding is good in case.
This pain triumphs natural child birth, every time I went to clean out the socket to relieve the pain, my entire body would start pouring sweat and my heart would even hurt. Pain meds didn’t even touch this shit.
Thank you for this info! I just had all lower teeth, and an upper wisdom and molar, extracted today. So, I'm bracing for dry socket(s). I have a question: Someone in the comments below suggested putting Clove Oil on a cotton ball or gauze. Do you think doing so might help??
I would refrain from doing anything prior to experiencing the symptoms and / or diagnosis of dry socket. Placing anything foreign in the site while healing will only compromise the site further. I assume you're asking if this would help IF you got a dry socket...Clove oil from what I've been told by patients seems to help for some pains in the mouth, but I really can't give you a solid answer on that other than just anecdotal evidence. All the best in your recovery!
Same here I was terrified of how was gana be but other than slight discomfort and taste of blood witch is part of recovery I'm not to to miserable had 4 wisdom teeth take. Out all impacted and all 4 of my 2nd molers uproghted and I can safely say 25 hours post OP it's not that bad if keep your head on shoulders and distract yourself hope everything goes well good hear not only one with little no pain thought was still sloppy
I removed my tooth on Monday last week. My dentist didn't even tell me about the dry socket and I have it, it's hell and makes me regret removing it. Ill be going back to the hospital tommorow 😢
Dealing with dry socket now. Oddly in my experience it was just a dull ache that radiated to my ear but it isn't severe pain. The dentist packed the socket which hurt at first but felt better over time.
I had my molar taken out a week ago. 3 days after the tooth was pulled out, i started to have really bad pain. Went to the dentist, found out it was dry socket. They cleaned it and put some medication in. I went back yesterday because it had fallen out and was in pain again. They cleaned it and put more medication in it. Question is, im in so much pain today and its been 5 days it all started and it isnt getting any better. I cant sleep, its driving me insaine! When will the pain get better? Should i go back to the dentist?
You should experience a bit of relief at the time that they place the medication. It's not uncommon for a dry socket to last for several days. I've had a couple times where it went on for 7-10 days (not the norm). I would keep in touch with your dentist and they'll advise what is best. Often I prescribe pain medication for patients so that they can tolerate the discomfort. All the best!
very informative video doctor. may i ask, i had my wisdom tooth extracted last week today is day 8th, i removed the stitch myself as it was slight loose and easy to cut and then i saw inside the socket the alveogyl that my dentist had put. do i have to have it removed? thanks
Yeah, don't do that. Cloves directly on soft tissue can cause burns. Not everyone will get burns, but most people will. That causes a vicious cycle. Dry socket is usually classed as aftercare and as such is free to treat properly without risking burns. Takes minutes for the dentist to sort. I've had 2 dry sockets, and each time was fine once the packing was inserted. First one i needed packed 3 times before it got bearable.
I rinsed my mouth while turning my head sideways and that takes out a lot of food from the socket. I had a lot more food than I thought. I think I'm not the only one who was let go home with very minimal information on how to avoid dry socket.
I developed two dry sockets and my dentist/ oral surgeon told me to take 3 ibuprofen and one Tylenol every 4 hours. It’s been around a week since my wisdom tooth extraction ( all 4) and my dentist said he wouldn’t be able to do anything. I haven’t gotten my dry sockets cleaned or anything and I’m just wondering if I need to go to the dentist in order to make sure it heals? Or can I continue with my at home care and wait for it to heal on my own? I’m quite confused.
Dry sockets are self-resolving with enough time. What I tell patients is if you can manage your pain with Advil / Tylenol and you're functioning okay, continue with that approach as long as the pain is decreasing day by day. If the pain is too much for those basic meds, or if it's staying steady or increasing, it's best to visit the dentist so they can flush the sites and evaluate whether or not they could benefit from a dressing of some kind. Hope that helps! I wish you well!
I ended up with dry socket because my immune system is wrecked from months of chemotherapy and even though my dentist has done everything to ensure that I clot and heal, here I am in agony and hoping this treatment can be done tomorrow when I see my dentist again. I thought that after enduring the horrors of having breast cancer, that there would be no more pain. I hope it improves soon. The disgusting taste the socket excretes periodically is an added horror to the blinding pain.
I got my wisdom teeth out 3 days ago and I just spit out a lot of blood and dark red thick clots of blood. The area now hurts and I‘ve been panicking crying for hours now. Going to a dental ambulance tomorrow and hope all goes well😞
That happened to me the night of day one. While I was swallowing bloody saliva, I accidentally did a sucking motion which may have bothered the clot on my lower right jaw where my wisdom tooth was. All of a sudden, I tasted a lot of blood on my tongue and felt a higher volume of liquid in my mouth. I opened my mouth and out flowed blood with some dark clots in it. I considered biting onto gauze to clean up, but I didn't do it because I was afraid it was going to pick up the rest of the clot. I just swallowed some of the blood and left the rest to dry in my mouth. It is now 5 days later. From what I have learned, I am healing in the ideal way.
I bought this stuff called orca it’s for dry sockets and I cleaned it myself and packed it with the orca I couldn’t get to the dentist bc it was the weekend and that stuff saved me I swear
Very well explained 👏 I had may right wisdom tooth extraction had 2 stitches but after 4 days i saw that stitches got loose and still there is hole left 😳 Im not having severe pain but whenever i drink water or rinse with salt water after food i started feeling pain under my jaw right at the end or sometimes in upper teeth or somtimes in right cheek Why its happening ? Can i ask denist to stitch that hole (open socket again)? Im soo confused and worried
It’s normal to have a hole there after wisdom tooth extraction and actually these sites will heal fine with or without sutures. Some providers choose not to place them. If you have concerns however it’s best to see your dentist so they can have a look. All the best!
Im on day 7 post surgery and just went to see my dentist for a follow up. The lady told me i have to start irrigating the bottom two wisdom tooth sockets. ( i had all 4 removed but she says that gravity will keep stuff out of my top sockets) When she did, lots of stuff came out of my left socket, but then quite a bit of blood came out of my right. My mouth is a tad sore coming home and i was just wondering could she have removed my blood clot? Is bleeding normal 7 days post op?
This is pretty standard and it's a good idea to follow her recommendation. If food/debris gets entrapped in the lower sockets, you can sometimes get a delayed infection that comes on 4-6 weeks after you have the teeth removed. The uppers typically don't need to be irrigated. The sites can be a bit inflamed and keep in mind they are healing so yes a bit of bleeding would be normal and is often seen when rinsing them out. The clot should be established very quickly (first 24-48 hours) so at this point in time you should not be too concerned about that. All the best...it eventually gets better!
@@timothymills8047 I wouldn't be concerned. You'd have to really work at it (like physically dig into the socket to open it again). By that time, things are starting to heal and the new tissue will certainly be weaker at the beginning until it matures, but you wouldn't lose the clot.
I had a tooth removal on 29. They did a full extraction pulpectomy with bonegraft. Now I did use a straw throughout sipping liquids for the first three days and then salt water rinse between day two and day four, but I didn’t spit hard. But I did notice that when they did the procedure they did kind of forcefully push down on the jaw Back-and-forth trying to get to 29 out. Day four I had to go back I was experiencing some catastrophic pain. It was no bleeding or anything like that but when I did go in, they did find out that I did have a dry socket so he filled it with some type of gel and come to find out it was alveogyl And the pain has went down, but I was advised to remain on the restrictions of only eating liquid food for the next 24 hours. Having a dry socket sucks!! Is there anything that a patient can do if they end up receiving a second dry socket during the process and how to properly care for that tooth at home if it say on a weekend and no dentist offices are open ?
I've had dry socket through my own fault. The socket was bleeding after an extraction and in an attempt to stop it I packed it with gauze. When I pulled the gauze out it pulled the blood clot out with it. Its the worst pain I've ever had
fuck.. mmmh day 8 and the dentists fucked up again :') 2-3 hours sleep, late mornings and full nightmares, and withdrawals from cannabis and some from kratom at the same time, and having fibromyalgia in a severe degree and "ME"/CFS and 100+ other symptoms already before this for half my life. I can tell you; without the love for this life, feeling the presence of "God"/Brahman/OurEssence, I'd end "myself"; this body :*)
I had one of my lower wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. When I got home I rinsed my mouth out with water and also spat blood out not knowing that I was not supposed to. I then read on the internet all about dry sockets and that to avoid these you should not do certain things like rinsing and spitting. I am therefore worried I have a dry socket. I have looked into my mouth using a light and a mirror but am unsure whether the socket is dry or not. I have no pain at all and my breath does not smell. What would you advise?
Not much you can do at this point Tom. Rinsing and spitting should be avoided as you have discovered, however, just because you did that doesn't mean that you will have dry socket. Time will tell and I would be will to bet that you'll be fine regardless unless you were very vigorous / aggressive with your rinsing. All the best!
Probably best to take a trip back to your dentist to have them take a look for you. I've seen some dry sockets for a good week or so, but usually they resolve to a manageable level fairly quickly (2-3 days).
It can take many weeks for healing. Generally after about 6 weeks significant healing has taken place. Make sure to keep in touch with your dentist / surgeon should your symptoms get worse. All the best!
I got seven teeth (4 wisdom, 2 baby molars, one adult molar) removed on June 26th (9 days ago) and i got a dry socket about day 4. I went back to the dentist and they put that paste in my socket. The pain has stopped but every time i do a rinse, especially on my left side a yellowish color comes out with my saliva. Also my swelling has went down significantly but there is a bump under my left chin towards the back of my jaw. When do you think swelling will be completely gone and is it normal for the paste to natural come out of the socket? Also thanks for the very informative video
Swelling should be decreasing by day 3 so if you're still swollen and have yellowish fluid coming from the socket, it's possible you could have some infection. Probably best to follow-up with your provider. All the best!
I went to a pharmacy and got a saline spray in a can, oral pain relief gel for dental pain and gauze, and told my cousin who has dry socket I think to wash with saline, apply oral gel, and cover with the a gauze for half an hour to let it absorb.. did I come up with the right treatment?
It's exactly 7 days today I took my right lower wisdom tooth out. Still painful but not as much as before. The hole has rapidly been closing, looks almost fully closed (but not yet). I had horrible pain a few days ago but Advil calmed it. Don't think it's dry socket. It would hurt more when I drank or ate something (I've only been eating soft foods and ONLY on the opposite side). Dr. did not provide a syringe and office is closed due to CO virus. Drugstore does not sell it. I do salt water rinse sometimes. Never see any food coming out. My question is---what is the implications that the hole will fully close and food is buried in there? Is it harmful? Will the food be stuck there forever and can this cause lasting pain? Will I have to go to the office weeks and months later to open it up again??
Great question Paul and unfortunate timing on the wisdom tooth situation. It is next to impossible to keep food out from lower extraction sites. The good news is that the majority of cases heal uneventfully. The socket typically remodels from the base upwards and as long as you're doing your best to clean the area, it should heal over with no trouble. Is it possible for food or debris (bone chips/dust) to be trapped in the socket? Yes. This is more common when an incision is made and the gum is lifted away from the bone. It creates a dead space under the gum that can become home to foreign material which harbours bacteria and can lead to infection. If this happens, it's common to see people returning in 4-6 weeks following the extraction with swelling and discomfort in the area. Usually it's treated via antibiotics alone, but there are cases where you may have to re-anesthetize and enter the area again. Roughly 95% of your healing will be complete around the 6 week mark, so I would not be alarmed that hole is still present after 7 days. To further place your mind at ease, there are some oral surgeons who do not routinely suture wisdom tooth extraction sites even when a significant incision has been made. Even in these cases, the healing seems to be comparable to the cases that are sutured up. All the best to you Paul. I hope this was helpful. Stay well!
My first tooth I got a dry socket so I assumed they were all excruciating so I avoided going. Then I got my next teeth out and had no pain at all. So I felt with the pain
I’m pretty sure I just felt my clot slip out after trying to get a piece of stuck food.... I’m reading all these comments about the pain and I’m scared ;-;
So had my impacted wisdom teeth taken out, 3 days in I started experiencing horrible pain. Went back to my dentist he gave me pain meds etc.... Thing is I have not only excruciating pain but my jaw has locked up( cant open past maybe half an inch, meaning I cant really eat so now I cant take the pills cause i throw up everything I attempt to drink or eat.. throat is super sore and my mouth is constantly fillled with spit I can't swallow... Haven't eaten for two days will be returning to the dentist tomorrow. God I hope this ends soon .
Its been 6days since I had my tooth extracted (2nd molar maybe) and until now its not fully healed and seeing a deep hole, creeping me out 😭 and Everytime I eat and a food debris got there, I feel pain. Is it normal? Im scared. Do i need to go back to my dentist?
Joanne - it can take many weeks for an extraction socket to fully heal over. Food inevitably gets in there and can make it uncomfortable. If you have concerns it would be wise to visit your dentist and I'm sure they would be happy to take a look for you. Wishing you all the best!
This is the knly video which actualy talks about how long the pain from this condition lasts. Thank you!
Thank you, doctor. It was very helpful.
Dentist did exactly what you’re talking about but failed to tell me I’d still have pain lmao. I want to … I just want to go to sleep for a long, LONG TIME 😓
I watched your video for pain when I was dying with mine 😭😭
How long have you been? Mine it's over a month now, improvement is there but very slow
How are you now?
I’ve been researching this for a few days and you are the only resource that explained it can go away on its own as long as you can manage the pain. Thanks.
I'm glad that it helped! All the best!
I can’t manage the pain
I am currently dealing with a dry socket. My tooth was a difficult extraction so this explains the pain. The clot really never fully developed so by day 3 it was over the top radiating to the ear and eye. Thanks for explaining what you did. Either I was so uncomfortable from the broken tooth to begin with that I didn’t retain the info. I appreciate the thoroughness.
I had a complex extraction (had to drill into my jaw bone to get my tooth out) and developed a dry socket too. Unimaginable pain.
Same here and this pain is unbearable
How long did it take to heal?
bro the fucking pain is unbearable
@daviiidoff you heal up yet? I'm going through it, sucks man
I have watched a million videos about dry sockets but this one explains it better than all of em.
Best video ever. :)
Took my tooth out yesterday, woke up 10min ago in soo much pain it still feels like my nerves are angry as if I never took the rotten tooth out. I was so confused, thank you for this video.
Lmao THIS is exactly how it feels
How are you now? Did you recover?
Plot twist:
It’s not your tooth that was rotten.
It was your heart
So what was it??? Just healing or dry socket
Hey man at least he is a human ... He just did not kno, with that wrong statement he did not do any demage to you .
What an excellent video. I’m in a ton of pain but having this broken down makes me feel better.
What’s bacteria got to do with a blood clot?
this is very helpful. a detailed explanation of dry socket. i just had a difficult extraction and developed dry socket. wish i saw this video earlier wouldn’t have had to withhold the pain for so long before i went back to the dental clinic.
It will get better on its own. Thank god. I’m dying from the pain of this but I have hope.. awesome video
Btw how did you know you had dry sockets?

After my surgery I loved that my doctor gave me a paper with all the things that I should or shouldn't do and the time schedule for those actions. Otherwise I think I would forget half of the things he said.
That's a great point. Lots of times during the post-op discussion with a patient, I am certain they're just wanting to get home to take it easy. We try to hand these out at our office so it's good to know that someone reads them! All the best!

Did you have to dilute it with water?
@@TC-nj8ug A little by wetting the gauze or cotton ball. You only need a drop of the oil.

Great information, it is useful to know that the pain will gradually subside in approximately 7 days. what caused ur dry socket??? i’m so scared i’m getting 8 teeth out on tuesday.
hohohoda n when the dentist pulls it out a blood clot is supposed to form in the hole after he’s done it’s why they tell you not to suck through the straw, smoke and other stuff because the sucking motion can dislodge the blood clot and if you do (which I did) it leaves the hole open leaving exposed bone and the pain is just god awful your whole side of the face throbs and it just feels horrible you don’t want to get one try your best to avoid it but if you do end up getting one you can go back to the dentist they have this awesome stuff that takes the pain away it’s called Dry Socket Paste it tastes horrible but once you get it in oh my god it’s like such a relief lol I had to do that once and not again lol

Day 4 now 🤪
@@toddb1208 im day 7 the pain is my only symptom but with my pain killee it heals me quickly :(
Ibuprofen and Tylenol never came close to touching my pain. Like I wasted so many pills
That's too bad. As mentioned, that is more just a clinical observation that I've had, but regardless I wish you a speedy recovery!
Same with me. 1 hour of extraction.... Was horrible.
The body is very good at healing. It sounds like your approach is reasonable. In time things will improve. All the best!
I’m experiencing the same and am also on day 4. How long was it til it got better for you?
Thank you for your clear and informative video 🙂
So I'm on day 2, and I have unknowingly done all the things I shouldn't have : used a straw (to drink soup), smoked (only about 5 a day) and ended up spitting the clot out whilst trying to sleep thinking it was a bit of food stuf in there.
That shouldn't be a problem for the gum Ms Maglorie, but certainly if you start noticing more symptoms, follow-up with your dentist. All the best!
Glad to hear that you're recovering! All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia thank you :)
Thank you so much for the information
I got my tooth pulled on Monday and its Saturday waking up each day thinking it would get better being woken up by a pain I thought it was effected I was going to go to the ER I will try this but without the packing gaze .
I been using Advil and its been helping manage my pain but I was worried because I was thinking as the days pass it would get better but I was still feeling pain thanks again for this video ❤
How did it go
@@joyce271he died to the pain
Any home remedies or over-the-counter products for helping clean out the infection??
any tips ? or updates on what you did ?

Excellent video and explanation of Dry Socket! I'm going to Subscribe to your channel and learn more! 5 days post extractions for dentures with 10 teeth removed, very sore but no dry socket and I suppose I'm in the clear at this point. Learning all I can about the process and I appreciate Drs. like you who share the info where laymen can access it! Bless you! An informed patient is a good patient.
Thanks so much! Glad it was helpful. I wish you the best!

This is very interesting video, I got a very difficult extraction on my superior wisdom last Monday today is a Days 7 I’m still in pain, I am taking antibiotics plus ibuprofen to reduce the pain, I went back to my dentist 2 days ago cause I was worried he said I have to keep taking the medication until the dry socket can healed, im very anxious and don’t know how long I will get better
how is it doing now?
how are you feeling since?
same here how are you feeling
Guys, he's dead. Dry socket and the pain accompanying it killed him.
Pain meds didn’t even touch this shit.
can you do a video on bone spicules after extraction
THANK YOU! I’ve been in pain for over a week and my dentist won’t let me come to see them 😡. So I’ve been trying to try my dry socket on my own😭
Yikes, hopefully you're doing ok. All the best!
I just got a wisdom tooth pulled yesterday and right now it feels like its healing pretty good
Same here I was terrified of how was gana be but other than slight discomfort and taste of blood witch is part of recovery I'm not to to miserable had 4 wisdom teeth take.

Thank you doctor, appreciate you for your valuable time.
How long until u got better ? I’m feeling the same I feel as it’s not healing
very informative video doctor. may i ask, i had my wisdom tooth extracted last week today is day 8th, i removed the stitch myself as it was slight loose and easy to cut and then i saw inside the socket the alveogyl that my dentist had put. do i have to have it removed? thanks
No it will come out as the socket heals. Although, if you're having pain in the area, getting old Alveogyl out can help to relieve it. All the best!
Dry socket is up at the top of the most painful list! Putting cloves in the socket can give almost instant relief.
@@profbawbag6604 For sure. I always went back to the dentist for him to put the cloves in. Inconvenient but absolutely worth it. 👍🏼
I rinsed my mouth while turning my head sideways and that takes out a lot of food from the socket. I had a lot more food than I thought. I think I'm not the only one who was let go home with very minimal information on how to avoid dry socket.
This was so helpful. Thank you!

Why did you have to remove your teeth?
The taste is wretched
I just pulled my back tooth out like ten minutes ago. I'm in the wrong place. 😭😭😭😂😂😂 I'm going to the dentist when they open
okey

So helpful channel plz upload more videos
I bought this stuff called orca it’s for dry sockets and I cleaned it myself and packed it with the orca I couldn’t get to the dentist bc it was the weekend and that stuff saved me I swear
Dentist has to use A LOT of force to get my tooth out. It popped out into the air and fell on my face. I definitely have dry socket.
Same here!
Very well explained 👏
I had may right wisdom tooth extraction had 2 stitches but after 4 days i saw that stitches got loose and still there is hole left 😳
Im not having severe pain but whenever i drink water or rinse with salt water after food i started feeling pain under my jaw right at the end or sometimes in upper teeth or somtimes in right cheek
Why its happening ?
@@OnlineExodontia how hard is it lose a clot after 7 days
@@timothymills8047 I wouldn't be concerned. You'd have to really work at it (like physically dig into the socket to open it again). By that time, things are starting to heal and the new tissue will certainly be weaker at the beginning until it matures, but you wouldn't lose the clot.
@@OnlineExodontia can i finally smoke my blunt. My anxiety been kicking my ass
@@timothymills8047 haha this is sucha paranoid question and i totally get it cos im like that aswell 🤣🙈
It was no bleeding or anything like that but when I did go in, they did find out that I did have a dry socket so he filled it with some type of gel and come to find out it was alveogyl
And the pain has went down, but I was advised to remain on the restrictions of only eating liquid food for the next 24 hours. Having a dry socket sucks!!
Is there anything that a patient can do if they end up receiving a second dry socket during the process and how to properly care for that tooth at home if it say on a weekend and no dentist offices are open ?
This is some real details thanks alot
I've had dry socket through my own fault. The socket was bleeding after an extraction and in an attempt to stop it I packed it with gauze. When I pulled the gauze out it pulled the blood clot out with it. Its the worst pain I've ever had
No fun! All the best in your recovery!
fuck.. mmmh day 8 and the dentists fucked up again :') 2-3 hours sleep, late mornings and full nightmares, and withdrawals from cannabis and some from kratom at the same time, and having fibromyalgia in a severe degree and "ME"/CFS and 100+ other symptoms already before this for half my life.
I can tell you; without the love for this life, feeling the presence of "God"/Brahman/OurEssence, I'd end "myself"; this body :*)
I had one of my lower wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. When I got home I
rinsed my mouth out with water and also spat blood out not knowing that
I was not supposed to. I then read on the internet all about dry
sockets and that to avoid these you should not do certain things like
rinsing and spitting. I am therefore worried I have a dry socket. I have
looked into my mouth using a light and a mirror but am unsure whether
the socket is dry or not. I have no pain at all and my breath does not
smell.
@@OnlineExodontia Thanks for reply. I went to the dentist today. She had a look (for free) and said there was no problem.
Very nice video.. I am on day 9 still in pain is this normal??
Probably best to take a trip back to your dentist to have them take a look for you. I've seen some dry sockets for a good week or so, but usually they resolve to a manageable level fairly quickly (2-3 days).
Guy knows what he doin 🤙🏼
I wish my dentist was like this and explaine everything. He just grabs his tools and starts working on it. After that I can't even talk.
I got impacted wisdom teeth how long will it take to heal? Also I have slight throbbing but not extreme pain. It's been two weeks now.
I was worried maybe I have dry socket but it sounds like I would definitely know I think I'm just worried about it lol
I’m pretty sure I just felt my clot slip out after trying to get a piece of stuck food.... I’m reading all these comments about the pain and I’m scared ;-;
Good luck then😂

So had my impacted wisdom teeth taken out, 3 days in I started experiencing horrible pain. Went back to my dentist he gave me pain meds etc.... Thing is I have not only excruciating pain but my jaw has locked up( cant open past maybe half an inch, meaning I cant really eat so now I cant take the pills cause i throw up everything I attempt to drink or eat.. throat is super sore and my mouth is constantly fillled with spit I can't swallow... Haven't eaten for two days will be returning to the dentist tomorrow. God I hope this ends soon .
You must eat of you want to get better. Without food, you will get worse.
