I was thinking the exact same thing about old people like me that love trains so it is a good retort to those that criticize adults that like LEGO. I wish they would get back to some of the fan designs like with the My Own Train. And the individual train car and engine packs. Trains are the biggest draw at shows next to the GBC and yet LEGO continues to neglect it

    • @almightyarjen
      @almightyarjen 5 років тому +5

I agree. I think they stopped with all the different train sets that were available in the 12V and 9V era because they weren't selling very well. But since kids today get more Lego than back then (that's at least what I have noticed) so also more train-like sets would be sold. Lego should put out just a few extra train sets like extra wagons and if it turns out that they sell well, they could increase the amount of extra train related sets in the next years.

I mean, a new LEGO expert/18+ train model was leaked. They’re reviving the crocodile locomotive except it’s much more accurate and since it’s only going to have the locomotive itself, it’s gonna have a $100 price tag. There may be hope yet for the future of LEGO trains!

I wish My Own Train was revived. They are drastically more affordable than modern Lego trains. $40 USD for a Santa Fe F-unit, in 2003? Even when adjusted for inflation that's still only $55 dollars! Even for a Lego Train (and for a Model Train in general) that's affordable. That would never happen nowadays with Lego. *sigh*
they looked cool too, it seemed briefly Lego wanted to seriously compete in the Model railroading scene (aside from the 80's anyways) and that would have made them an interesting contender in the business had they continued.
    great video as usual!

banjo playing bison in 2003 when it came out it only costed $40 (today it'd be $55 as of 2018) which it's hard for me to think there was a time when Lego Train's could cost that little

I’ve always liked the designs and color changing concepts of My Own Train. Very unique models that serve well nowadays. One system I’ve always wanted to try was 12Volt. To me this seems very close to model trains in terms of controls and I love the interface setup for multiple buttons. If I can’t own them, I’d at least like to test run someone else’s.

Another great episode and I really enjoyed the comparisons to real world trains. I have experienced building and rolling some old and some new and I must say, while designs have changed and been more accurate, there are some old ones that stand their ground and have a distinct look and feel on the rails. Good background track, always good to hear that song pop up. And I didn’t know they made a wooden train in the mid 1930’s in wood! Great information and I should credit you in my bizarre LEGO book which has a section outlining the evolution of LEGO trains.

My dad had one of the 4.5v trains from his youth, but he introduced it to us at a too early age and we eventually ended up ruining it out of curiousity. It did have a ton of the blue track-pieces, though. Eventually, years later, I got one of the later 9V trains from the City line and really enjoyed it. It's really cool how you can combine it with the RCX Mindstorms series (it was never marketed as compatible, but our nonconductive older tracks becomes really usefull that way).

God, just imagine an action line centered on trains.
Something like a mix between Snowpiercer and the Space factions where entire societies live in these super-trains and try to either cooperate to get where they need to go, or hoard stretches of railway for themselves. Some are more modest, but some are outfitted with all sorts of gadgets and weapons, and some might even stretch the definition of trains entirely and just be "A vehicle that happens to be compatible with train rails" or even just huge monsters that took over the husk of a train and might be the reason why people live in them to start with; Because using anything else meant the monsters had free range of movement instead of being limited to the rails.

turns out i actually have a shell truck from the shell train set. its missing 2 1x2 red plates off the top but its the same one. i got given it as a gift a fe years back to go with my shell ferrari polybags and always wondered what set it came from since it's pretty old. i also got a small boat and a small exploriens set along with it, but those were more obvious as to what themes they came from

4:05 Honestly I'd love for LEGO to do that with things like Jedi Starfighters and Interceptors from Star Wars

Cool video an talk about a trip back into time seeing how the trains have come along in Lego form.
A cousin had given me some of the Lego's he had or half of them, one thing that was mixed in was train tracks an some train base plates for the train build. only a few peaces for the train but a complete set, but I'll admit it does give me a chance to build my own design maybe, that's if I can come up with a interesting look an work on the build. But I'll be using the tracks with the Hidden Side haunted train set, as for the Harry Potter train I don't know if I'll be getting that one or not or any of the other Lego City trains, plus a spot to set them up in would be the next question.

Funny that LEGO is Danish, yet they ever made any Danish looking trains to Lego, only DB (German Railways) Train and other US and Europe based trains

5:32- sorry to nitpick here but the Jacobite is the service between fort William and mallaig, the steam engine used for the hogwarts express was 5972 Olton Hall which has now been retired and is on static display.

5:40 Nice talk about the new Hogwarts Express, but I'm a guy based on realism... They need to add more pistons, and move the main piston up to the middle.

They did the best they could, given the existing selection of pieces. They'll have to whip up entirely new, hyper specialized things if you want that level of detail. It's still no contest compared to the old version.
