3 Ways to Use Targets in Dog Training

One tool that I use and find most powerful in training is the use of targets. I use it in all of my dog training. One of the most common behaviours you'll see is the use of targets, where you send a dog out and they get on a boundary of some sort. It's very, very helpful for clarity, self-control, and directional training. If you're not currently using targets in your training, I highly encourage you to do so. In this video, I'm going to teach 3 ways you can use targets in training and I’ll focus specifically on touch targeting. Instead of the dog, going out to sit on a target for a boundary - a physical boundary, your dog is going to learn to go out and touch something with their nose. I have a gal wanting to do some higher level obedience, with a small dog. My first though was building an elevated surface so she didn't have to bend over so far. My next thought was target training. If he followed a target we could manage his nose just like luring is my thought.
I'm to darned old to have food 5 inches off the ground for long. LOL
