I'm an FM that just started at a new company, Mitsubishi VRF setup cooling all my IDF's, separate cooling tower setup for comfort cooling along with chillers serving FCs and data center IRC's, and a few CRAH units here and there in some labs. This is the first time I've dealt with VRF;s and this video was a nice primer as I just finished a day of walking roofs with our mechanical vendor and didn't have enough time to deep dive. That's the fun part of managing MEP, there is always something new to learn about and geek out when we go back up tomorrow and finish out the campus mechanical tour hehehe.
I put a 5 head heat pump VRV unit in my house to replace 25 year old ducted reverse cycle. Could not be happier! So efficient and less expensive to run.
Rather have refrigerant piping than water. Water leaks cause damage, refrigerant leaks just cost money in the price of the technician coming out toleak test and recharge
@@jamesrothwell1738 have you ever delt with a fully loaded VRV system with 200lbs of R410a? These things are a nightmare for leak checking. Refrigerant doesn't get replenished automatically like with water where you have a makeup water system.
Absolutely hating VRF. Nothing but issues. Only tech in my office that works on the Mitsubishi that our mechanical keeps installing. Just recently had fun replacing a reversing valve on a twinned outdoor system after 1 year at a firestation. Kept getting a refrigerant overcharge alarm when defrost would occur, alarm would happen instantly before maintenance tool would refresh data. Had to use rare earth magnets on the valve to indicate position and to find which one was the issue.
Funny, I’m fighting with Toshiba about my domestic VRF with 4 heads. It’s showing a full load COP of 3 but part load of 1.75 at std conditions. They say it’s working to spec but book says 4.4/5.
Big warning though...sometimes the refrigeration piping sizing, which is tricky, gets installed wrong and you start killing compressors. When this happens you get stuck with the problem because the mnfr says it is not their fault and the installer will refuse to take responsibility for it...so you go thru pain and $ until you get frustrated and rip it all out and start over.
Yes you are right, thats why every manufacturer has its own sizing design software for pipe arrangement and sizing. I have experience in this as I used to work few months in Mitsubichi electric company.
All new homes should be equipped with the VRF systems. I think the lack of proper training is the reason for the HVAC contractors in the USA not installing them.
Yes it will be beneficial for your residential building in your electricity savings and increase your system efficiency ..I recommended to you diakin vrf ..diakin is a top most in vrf system We installed mostly diakin unit in UAE and Middle east .
We’re using full DC inverter Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries air conditioners in our home-all 5 units almost running 24/7. Our bill is just around $100 a month, we live in the tropics and we have one of the highest rates in terms of utility costs in Asia but I’m pretty happy with my bill now. We used to pay upwards of around $200-300 a month for just two conventional units a couple of years ago. Yeah the units are expensive as hell but that is a small price to pay for machines that are reliable, insanely quiet, and provide us extreme comfort for extended periods of time.
That’s bc it’s a variable compressor it works on capacity load. 👌 it’s working how it’s designed for your climate most VRV/VRF systems have a blueprint of the house and system install etc
because VRF is a smart system technology, its purpose is to reduce energy consumption of conventional split systems. conventional split systems efficiency range between 1.6 to 2.2 kw/ton. VRF acts similar to what VFDs do in chillers and pumps, gives only the required flow @ the required compressor partial load therefore, saving a lot of energy. the number 1.07 kw/ton was based on one study only made in UAE. More data should be gathered from different projects at different locations around the world to came up with accurate number and compare it with water cooled chiller or air cooled chiller plants.
What if the whole building needs to be cooled and all the units need cooling, they suck and are a scam. Like 30k for one unit. I have seen them manufactured, very difficult to work on and manufacture.
If all building needs cooling at the same time then better to go for chillers option. VRF are a great option in residential buildings, with every dwelling unit having its own outdoor unit.
There is no rocket science involved here , look at carrier air-conditioning models and units with simple work method and efficient carrier air-conditioning is best rest others companies come up with some stories in mechanism for there product sales and marketing.

I have 3 separate vrf systems in my house and 1 of them is water cooled. Very good.

When outdoor got errors, how will be each indoor? Are they working separately or not?
All indoors connected to the same outdoor will be out of service till you repair the outdoor. Outdoor unit is the main unit containing the compressor.
Thank you dear sir!

Should of went w a Daikin they’re a reason they trademarked VRV

Get your layout, run lengths, and elevations; then vet the design with the manufacturer.

Is There a Certified Class I can take on this System along with HVAC-R?
Initial expense is high the turn around on money back takes a long time. But if you use the compressors year around they dont last especially with 410

hi sir, why the energy efficiency of VRF @1.07 kw/ton is so low?

im a beginner for VRF,,, can you upload for wiring in indoor at out combination
Imagine a "Daisy Chain" from 1st Indoor to each of the other Indoor than to the Outdoor. It is a 2 wire 1.2mm shielded cable.
