- Life is Excellent is a documentary film presented by British actor, Russell Tovey, as he embarks on a quest to bring to prominence his artist hero, David Robilliard who tragically died during the AIDS pandemic in 1988 aged just 36. During the film, Russell meets close friends, collaborators, and colleagues of David as he pieces together his life in order to tell the story of the man behind the canvas and witty poems and make sure he is never forgotten.

My dear friend, poet, song writer, passionate advocate of gay culture, died of AIDS in 1988, the same year Robilliard passed. While my darling Kelcy is forgotten, I like to think his memory in some way lives on in this beautiful tribute thanks to the remarkable and fulsomely generous genius of Russell Tovey.
I feel like I just lived an entire life with him - what an icon he was.
I really enjoyed learning about gay artist David Robilliard and the art scene in London during the time of the AIDS crisis. How many incredible artists we lost. Russell Tovey has done a great job telling the story. Thank you for making this available.
It was wonderful to spend time with Dave (the Rave), such a dynamic person. I was lucky that as a teenager I was able to hang out with a small group of (slightly) older people including my brothers and David. The air crackled with creativity and humour. He was intelligent, insightful, talented, challenging, sometimes loud but also at times insecure - and of course great fun. We cherish his memory, books and art work.
Are you familiar with David Rakoff? His was a different kind of tragedy but they feel very much like kindred souls to me.

I still miss David so much, not a day goes by without me thinking of him. I am hounered that our paths crossed in life and we could create such a beautiful friensdship between us like no other. I know that you know that I love you David. X
