I have had a sun conure for 20 years now. He still seems young. I don't do the pellets. Just a good seed mix. Plus grains and fruit. He doesn't like vegies. I tried. Also, we take a shower every morning. Together. He loves it.
I see so many people with incorrect info with parrots, but you are so knowledgeable!! I love that you have a 100% amazing diet and your parrots look amazing!! Keep up the great work!
I have a baby pineapple conure green cheek were just bonding rite now an teaching her the weekly routine while introducing her to new people and places she goes everywhere with me and snuggle every night
We bought a sun conure from a breather. My BF and I treated her like a daughter. We bought her 3 different cages, where we kept it open so she was free to fly around. We gave her only the best food and toys. She made the house happy and I loved her. Until last week when she just died. She dropped dead in front of our eyes in les then 30 seconds. I don't know what happended, she was only 11 months. We think a fatal heart attach. I just know that I'm devastered, and can't stop thinking and crying over her.
I'm getting a conure tomorrow. I had a lovebird for 16 years some years ago and I'm very excited after seeing all your interaction and enjoyment of these beautiful birds. Lots of great info here. I'm in Florida as well, Oviedo, near Orlando.
One thing people should know before buying a Sun Conure is that they can live for 30+ years so they are a HUGE commitment. I took in my Sun from a friend who no longer wanted him anymore after just a year and was shocked when I looked up their life span afterwards. I was like "What did I just get myself into?!" lol. But he's 16 years old now and we're still together and I hope for many more years with him. If you can make the commitment, it's a very rewarding experience but people should know this ahead of time. My only regret is not getting him a mate, but he's bonded with me so I guess i'm his mate haha.
Thank you so much for sharing! They’re a blessing to us and I plan to keep them for the length of their lifetime :) I do talk about their life span in other videos! It’s such a significant factor.
@@bestflockingfriends I came across your video at random so will check your other videos. Do you have one that explains how you built that nice aviary outside? I have a similar screened porch and would love to put something like that up for my Sun. Right now he has a rope perch he sits on out there and watches the ducks and egrets by the pond. Though this time of year in Florida it's way too hot to sit out there for long.
Thank you for your video. Really entertaining. I love your setup. We just bought a Sun Conure, but haven’t brought him home yet (still weaning). I’ve been following BirdTricks for a while now, and love their videos. I already have their seasonal “cookbooks” and can’t wait to use them, as well as the other goodies we’ve purchased from them. I adopted a 3 year old sun conure. He always wants to be on me, but whenever i try and put him on his perch he doesnt stay and comes back to me. Is that seperation anxiety?
Hey! Sorry, I replied to you but my computer apparently deleted it. Your bird thinks you are their flock because birds are flock animals. It’s natural for them to want to be with you all the time. My son Conyers always want to land on me and rarely stay on their perches. I have to entice them with toys with goodies or yummy snacks that teach them the perch is a place they want to stay and spend time.
When I bought my Sun Conure (Murp) from my cousin.... he flew over to me, bit me on the cheek, and flew back to his cage. Oh, and he did an evil laugh after biting me. He was a rescue. Hey 👋🏽 So I just got a sun conure 3 weeks ago & he’s 3 years old. When I try to pet him he yells , anything I try to do with him he just yells at me & wants to bite. 😩 I really don’t know what else to do. His previous owner has had him since he was a baby. Idk if maybe he misses her or what but I feel like giving up. 🥺
Be patient :) take baby steps!! Mango wouldn’t even step for me! He still doesn’t like being “pet” but he will cuddle... so long as I don’t touch him with my face too much 😂 side note, touching a bird anywhere besides their feet and head is sexual for them, so it maybe another way of the bird saying hey - no advances from you buddy! Don’t be hurt by it.
They're not typically loud when they can't see people. If you invest in good toys and you feed your bird a great diet, you're likely not going to have a lot of noise problems. When you get home, your bird will probably scream in excitement for a bit because they'd like to spend time with you. I think it's manageable, but you could also opt for a bird that's a bit less noisy.
How do the little nest tent looking fuzzies make them hormonal? Both of my Conures came with those, and that's where they sleep. I did take them out to wash them once and both birds seemed lost without the sleeping space they were used to. Both hang on the side of the cage all night.
@Nadia Durocher Both of mine allow me to put my hand in there, and pet them goodnight or give a head scratch. So, I guess I'm ok leaving them in. My Sun is more protective over his toys than the tent. 😊
The tents do make birds hormonal, because they imitate a nest which is a dark secluded space. My parrots also slept there, but I’ve provided a lot of perches and other spaces for them to be comfortable. They also provide a danger for ingesting the fibers, which cannot be digested. It’s up to you but I recommend against them.
I have a hand fed baby pineapple green cheek conure rite now she only 12 weeks old maybe 13 weeks now and a hand fed baby bird the way to go for 1st time bird owners
Maybe you can help - I want to be able to safely hold an African Grey, and not have to worry about them doing some serious damage to my hands. Would you recommend using some gloves at first until they are comfortable? If so, which ones?
I don’t. You should be able to teach them to step for you without damaging incidents. Have you tried target training at all? Once you’ve determined which treat works best you can do step training in short intervals to show the bird your hand is not a negative thing.
I think when people say that birds bite for no reason, they mean their bird bit them because they wore the wrong shirt, wrong hairstyle, changed their nail polish. sure there's a reason, but sometimes it's just a bird reason we don't get
Hi i have pineapple conure, aged 2 and half months and trying to wean it to hard food , it only takes few seeds, i also gave apple smash it took only few ml, but rest of the time looking for hand feeding formula, how to wean it properly? Pl give some tips. I am hand feeding it 3 times also put seeds in its cage but it never eats those
I’m sorry I’m just getting around to replying to messages. I hope you were able to wean ok. Babies shouldn’t really be forced to wean, they will do so between 3-4 months old! Offering veggies with mashed pellets is a great start!
Hi, loved the videos. My Jenday conure, Zazu, he's 10, has become Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He is attacking my African Grey, Tillie, she's 13. It's testosterone. I know he thinks I am his mate and attacks her, flying at her, biting her. She screams the entire time they are flying around with me trying to catch them. I always get them both out and sometimes we don't have the chase. Longest we made it was 6 days. Tillie even tells him to stop it. I'm having to leave one in the cage and one out. Any suggestions? About a month ago I have started putting him to bed at 8:00 p.m. He hates the blanket. I'm retired so we do sleep in 8/9 a.m. Suggestions? Any suggestions as to how long we are going to be going through this? Thanks. Lisa
I don’t know your daily habits so it’s hard to say. Some birds are just jealous of others! I have to keep mango my sun conure separate from Sam and Cookie bc he will fly and attack them. It could be hormones. It could be diet. 12 hours dark quiet sleep is important, and only pet your birds on their head and feet to avoid triggering more hormonal behavior.
Hello! Your birds are sooo adorable! Im planning to buy a sun conure. I've done a lot of research about it and i know they are noisy. But could I ask one question? Is your birds a pure sun conure or is it a red factor? Because i love their color!! Its soo cute! Thank you so much! It would mean a lot to me if you replied😊
Absolutely! Honestly I am not sure I’d have to ask the breeder of Peach. Mango, we adopted off Craigslist but actually I feel like she gave me paperwork on him. I’m not very well versed on the types of sun Conures, however the more time they spend outside that red turns into FIRE. If you have that ability to let your bird be outside or in the sun in a window I bet it’ll happen for yours too. And yes... very noisy. Be aware your actions can reinforce the loudness. Both BirdTricks and LamboandMango have great videos on this!
i’ve been trying to get a sun conure for such a long time but i can’t find a good pet store close to me. is it ok to ship birds and if so can you tell me if a good place to buy a bird?
I recently adopted a sun conure and I was getting pretty good with him / her . I have been feeding it the food I was told that was provided and I do try other foods that I was told it would like . But it doesn’t like anything I give it . So I just stay with what it’s been on and I do give treats like ormond s / peanuts . Some different fruits that he will try . I have never had a bird before so this is all so new to me . This is why I decided to watch some different videos about them . But I see on most birds they have something on there leg ( like a lil bracelet from being born and had been treated correctly. Is this true ? My conure does not have one and he does bite me when I try to get to him slowly to get the correct amount of time . I would love to have this beautiful bird with me all the time . But I can see that this is not going to happen. Yet . So I need to say that adopting a pet from a family that messed with him to much and the family had a child that is autistic and found out that he was taunted the bird . I don’t know how long that this child was doing it . So i made a choice to take in this beautiful bird . Now I can only have time with him / her when it wants the time . How do I know if this bird was brought from a pet store and not just a wild bird from who knows where . When he bites me he bits hard and make me bleed . Now there are times that he bits soft . I just have so many questions and m so dang sorry. 👍🙏
You’re just fine! It’s a lot to get a new bird. I thought mine “didn’t like” certain foods also but I was wrong :) it’s a learning curve! They will ALWAYS prefer the bad stuff because it’s so fatty and “tasty”. If you eliminate the seed diet and remove snacks like fruit and nuts they will be more likely to begin trying their new food like cold pressed pellets and a veggie chop. And no, a bird doesn’t need a leg band, they’re just like a dog’s tag on their collar: so if they get away someone is able to identify the bird and help find their owner. My parrots do not have leg bands.
The biting may stop if you change his diet and remove hormonal triggers. I strongly recommend you purchase BirdTricks “horror-mones” video. It was NIGHT AND DAY between my parrots attitudes once I stopped their hormonal triggers and changed their diets!!!
When we first got our birds they were all flighted but mostly not allowed to fly in their prior situations. This caused them to fly erratically into the walls, windows and door frames. It didn’t happen a lot, and over time they learned from their mistakes and became more accurate. It’s not the safest way I’m sure, but we did our best to introduce them slowly to new environments and today we have no problems with them flying into anything including windows.
What about their poop? Like is it on everything, everywhere? Is it hard to get out of fabrics? If they're out of their cage for a few hours how much do they go?
Nope so oddly it just washes out of everything or pops off fabric once it’s dried and the residue wipes away. Mine usually fly to a perch to use the bathroom or I can read their body language and see when they need to go. There’s usually some where I have baby gates they land on but that’s why I have perched around.
@@bestflockingfriends That's great to know, thanks! I have been so into the idea of owning one but that situation worried me, I think it sounds manageable.
I think it’s relative but I appreciate your feedback! Personally the screaming can be aggravating but it’s not all the time. Every situation is different.
I adopted one two days ago he eats and come to my shoulder but doesn't want to bath at all and even I spray him just with my hands and he doesn't like he is 2years old
It’s ok give it some time. Sam only bathes himself about once a week, while the suns will bathe daily or every other day. Every birds preference will be different, although it should be encouraged daily or offered. You can offer a bowl or plate for him to try, or use a spray bottle. Don’t force it! I’m sure he will bathe. You can reward for bathing response.

That’s correct :) Cookie does that sometimes, I wonder how much of a habit it is vs a natural reaction.
Wow thank you

The biting may stop if you change his diet and remove hormonal triggers. I strongly recommend you purchase BirdTricks “horror-mones” video. It was NIGHT AND DAY between my parrots attitudes once I stopped their hormonal triggers and changed their diets!!!
Don’t they fly on the window , how do you avoid that .
CEILING FANS ARE REALLY BAD!!
Almost lost my Green Cheeck
They do scream but it isn't really that bad. People make their screaming out to be intolerably painful or something and it isn't.
I think it’s relative but I appreciate your feedback! Personally the screaming can be aggravating but it’s not all the time. Every situation is different.
CHES NY CARROT CAKE EXPLOSION. GO SUNS. 1
And congratulations on your adoption!
Can you tell me more about your sun conure...i will be able to make adoption if im qualified for poster parent...im a bird lover so much.
I’m not sure, you’d have to check with parrot rescues in your area. My birds are staying with me 🥰
Where did you link the chop cookbook?
It should be in the below comments or I can get it for you real quick

Bene!
Green Cheeks are much quieter.
I hear this also!
@@bestflockingfriends Still, Suns are delightful birds.
I let my baby conure watch videos of other conures and he attacked the phone!!! I was shocked lol
🤣
Is that normal?!
Yes they can be territorial lol but my birds attack my phone when I’m just scrolling through Facebook maybe he didn’t like the movement?
He only does it on videos of other birds lol
What to know: You do not own the bird. The bird owns you.
🤣
So rightly put 😅
great video. but female peacocks are peahens. too funny
Where do you put all of that stuff for your bird ?
I do my best 😂 they take up a lot of space
It’s so sad to hear that they are now endangered
I know it’s been that way for a few years. I wish people didn’t feel the need to poach wild animals.
Asking if anyone can help me get a female Sun conure. ( I’m living in N.J.) help!!!!! I’ll travel wherever in Jersey. Thanks
try bird rehoming groups on fb and look for your sun conure in NJ. good luck. also check out the shelters
