Good update Richard, i would keep the outside section as it add more dynamic to your model railway that others don’t, thinking of lifespan & minimal maintenance regime’s, Fix the supporting metal brackets to the metal / concrete posts! Not timber! And use ‘filcris’ recycled plastic boards as theses will last & never rot! If your concerned about weather getting into the tunnel portal, you could extend the tunnel to a foot, which should help avoid weather ingress👍🏻 thanks for posting 😀. S.C
Thanks for sharing your latest update. The Gate Inn is about 16 miles from me, I'll have to have a look if and when I am next passing. Church yard looking great, as for outside I would renew/repair and possible make removal covering. Enjoyed the track shots from when the garden section was up and running, take care and stay safe..
A bit late committing, but I would go with the short section and some sort of seaside terminals. And also build some sort of cover for it, for those winter months.
Excellent update. Think I agree with a lot of the comments about not replacing the outdoor section. A lot of work for, let’s face it, not a lot of running during a year. I think the fence coming down has done you a bit of a favour in the long run. Roy.
I'd reinstate the outdoor 'spur' as an 'industrial/freight/military spur only. In reality these less used lines tend to look more overgrown, as obviously use and upkeep is kept to a minimun wherever possible. Old coal mine, oil terminus, power station or military logistics depot, or dockyard spur in the garden, or being even more creative and giving purpose and justification for the spur line - Set up a avian 'flower mill' at the end of garden and supply it each week with bird seed delivered in hopper wagons.... There's your 'industrial line' ... . The entrance to the tunnel portal on the inside looks pretty realistic, with a few more weeds growing between the sleepers, leading right into the portal, but with *shiny* rails, indicating an infrequently used spur. The sort of places we 10 year olds used to explore and realise, sometimes in the nick-of-time, that the old trackbed was in fact still in use, albeit infrequently. . Upkeep of the outdoor section of the track, specifically the rails, could be made easier by running a BR class 20 up the spur each week, hauling a track-cleaning tender. That and the weekliy bird seed delivery run and the track will stay in service longer. . The pub is nice, though your tv aerial is on the wrong chimney - Timestamps: 2:51 & 3:09 refers... And I'm in agreement with *Slicktop* here, that the pub's interior must have a coat of black 'masking' paint, because the interior illumination is still showing through the brickwork (well it is made of resin, clearly not heavily pigmented...). . Road resurfacing down to the station car park is another excellent touch of realism. This is how councils do road surfacing. Usually ends up looking like a tarmacadam patchwork quilt.
Thank you. I will change the TV Ariel to the other chimney on the pub. The light caught at the side of the pub is actually caused by the sign writing. Bachmann used a polythene type of label to achieve this. It reflects the street lights. Still not sure about the outside section situation? I am waiting till the fence is finished. Cheers Richard
Brilliant update mate, that pub looks so good, I’ve actually seen this place when I’ve worked in Canterbury, lovely improvements to the layout and I’d definitely reinstate the outside maybe just a shorter loop to the bush, we’ll have to have a catch up soon, cheers Darrell
Thanks Darrell. Yes must meet up soon. I was thinking about meeting up soon the other day if you are up for it? I have done some more since this video. Including a upgraded new controller. Will contact you soon.
@@darrelldeltic807 . I will arrange this week. Used some of the wire you gave me as well especially with the new controller. Also found a very good use for a bedside tea rest/tray?
The votes in so far for the outside garden section of the model railway are:- Reinstate =6 votes. Close the line =5 votes. A shorter small section reinstated =9 votes. So far keeping a small section is leading in viewers opinion. Keep them coming in!
Yeah, maybe just have a short section outside for scenic interest with trains running in and out. You can always develop/change it later. Good update, the pub looks superb. All the best. Brian @ The Angels
Great update. Me personally if it takes hour to prepare the outside track I would vote to scrap the outside section and focus on the indoor part of the layout
I would keep a short section of layout outside as it was a nice feature The return loop might be going on top of one of the plants along the fence so that’s at the line is shorter and would require less manutention ;-)
Great update, the pub looks brilliant. I have tried to make my own version of level crossing using a circuit board from block signalling. I think you should reinstate the outside section but perhaps a little smaller.
Very nice.. Amazing.. I love the details.. Sorry my Englisch I am from Switzerland.. I have subscribe your Chanel.. Grettings from Switzerland Alex😊😊👍👍🇨🇭
As you asked, I would simply keep the smaller straight outside section, for a bit of added interest. Could put the loop at the end of the shorter straight section? Just my thoughts.
I'll cast a vote for keeping a smaller remnant of the outside section. I'm sure the locals will not appreciate the closure of their branch line, but it does seem like an awful lot of maintenance to do annually to keep the full length of it running.
I would definitely keep the outside section, or at least part of it up as far as where you have rebuilt the ornate garden wall and then return loop it with perhaps a country station?
@@CHESEABUN it is really a question of whether, for you personally, the pleasure that you get from the garden extension outweighs the inconvenience of the work necessary to maintain it. Ultimately, only you can know that.
Good idea. I am going to upgrade the lighting to strip led with effect functions. The lighting at the moment is not realistic enough for me. Plus you can see my shadow when filming.
If it were me personally I'd dismantle the outside its a cash cow if as u say always needs work etc and your portal from inside to outside will always let moisture in that over time could damage the boards track and buildings on your inside layout...but ultimately its your layout and your choice no one elses
Thankyou. Still undecided? I do cover the tunnel portal up with a piece of plywood supported by half a brick when not in use. But yes when the wind and rain gets up you do get a very small amount of moisture seeping in. Thanks for the comment.
I would look at covering anything that went outside with glass or Perspex's. You know how much work goes into an outside railway and while the idea is great protection for your rolling stock and infrastructure should be considered before reopening the outside line. Currently the Line is closed. I see nothing wrong with opening a covered outside section to a station that suggests that there was much more. Abandoned third or fourth tracks. Point work to suggestion Junction. Use only one bay platform at the station. Therefore thats A shorter smaller section with revised plan = 9 votes
NOT a 'lynch' gate; it's 'lytch' gate. 'Lytch' is from an old word for 'corpse', a lytch gate offered shelter in inclement weather for coffin bearers, should they need to wait for the service to reach the appropriate moment.
Hi Micheal, Thanks for pointing that out. It is indeed a “Lytch” gate, Sorry about that. I had Lynch in my head whilst filming for some reason? And thanks for the explanation of the gate. I did not know that? Cheers Richard.
Interesting update and a most impressive layout, enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing and all the best, Paul
Thank you for watching and taking interest. Cheers Richard. More to come...
Looking so good. Even the indoor part benefits from natural light which always enhances the look. Great work thanks for sharing
Thank you. At some stage this year I am going to replace the lighting above the layout. Too many shadows!

Thanks Roy, I think you are probably right? It also looked very untidy around the returning loop. I may just keep a short run to a terminus station?

I would keep a small outside section to run on for now. see how you feel about the rest later. Good luck with whatever you decide. Like the new pub

Keep outside section .....different perspectives etc ...good luck with all the improvements

Yes the “gate inn “ does exist near Canterbury on the new Dover road more closer to the Bridge the village

I mean DCC not Dec

Build a conservatory for a more modest out/return loop?
We have just had to replace the conservatory for the house as it was leaking badly. Got to pay the off loan for this one now. Can’t afford another!😀🤔
