Exactly, and there are some people in the US who would like to keep it going. They can not accept the fact that many have grown past racism and are getting along wonderfully. They want to make us believe that the work of such heroes/heroines as Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks meant nothing at all. I lived during their time and saw what it was like then. I am not saying that there are no racist persons today. I am sure that there are plenty, but not in my 50/50 circle.

They probably watched it.... We just saw two different messages come through. We saw and heard incongruences, plus you put the shoe on the other foot, and I'd bet black folks wouldn't appreciate someone talking down to them and stereotyping them like this women does towards whites.
you didn't watch to the end. Empathy is only for the mature. Most won't change because speaking the truth is so offensive that we are still being murdered over it.
"We say hello to each other. We acknowledge each other with a smile or head nod. It is a sign of respect. It doesn't really mean "hi" I mean it means hi but it means more than hi, it means I see you , you are human" This statement DOES translate over. This tells me she as probably only experienced "city life" mostly in her life. If you go to a smaller town one thing people with notice if they are from a larger town/city is how many people simply wave at you or give you a head nod that means exactly the same as she described. She talks about "culture" as being owned by different ethnic groups but "people" living in different areas have different "cultures". The biggest "well known" culture divide amongst people of the same race in the US is Northern and Southern "culture". A white person living in New York City lives in and has a complete different "culture" and abides by completely different "social rules" than a white person living in a smaller more rural town. So..... If Amy comes here and gives me a "head nod", not only would I understand what it "means" but she would get one back that means the exact same thing!
I agree. I am a Black woman, and --- especially during the early part of Amy's talk (after the eye-gazing exercise) --- she said things that I do not agree with. (For instance: I typically stay at 5-star hotels, and so I also use the shampoos and conditioners in hotels! WTH??? I never heard of any Black person who does not also do so, but now I know!) 😆The "time" point was also moot --- one cannot compare professional standards of "being on time" to not arriving on time for parties. 🙂Black Economic scholars assert (& I agree) that healing U.S. (& world) economic disparities between White vs. Black people will affect the most profound changes. Overall, however, Amy's message is potent and powerful, especially ideas related to dissolving economic disparities.
Rusty it's an entirely different thing with black people the head nod carries with it weight that most white people cannot understand. Because of how white people have treated us in this country, there is a lot that we communicate with just a look when we have to move in white spaces.
That's what I thought, until I saw some girl on Twitter saying she hates it when white people smile and say hi to her. Confusing when everyone has their own standards.
I grew up in monroe la. Got along with black people, and had a LOT of friends that were black...racism in the town i lived in was practically non existant...i live in texas now (small town) and the same thing is present....the only racism i have encountered is comming from black people towards me,and i am so comfortable around black people, i can defuse any hatred , rather quickly, for the most part,by not lashing back with hatred. (basically i employ the proverb:"a gentle answer turns away wrath"). I noticed that division started ramping up when mr.obama got elected...its very sad to see.
Yes....the rest of his life because evil exists in the fallen world...but we have hope through our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only one who loves us purely. We are made in His image and he died to give us the healing of our hearts, souls, and bodies. Don’t look to humans to fulfill that need. They can’t. She is is expecting from the wrong source...He is the source.
Me as well, but part of the sadness is the inculcation of the idea that when someone stops you, it's solely because of race. That's also a sad, single-minded way of thinking that will be untrue more often than not, even though sometimes it is.
Where I grew up in the Midwest, we just said hi to everyone we passed by, regardless of skin color, and whether we knew them or not. I still do this wherever I go today, and depending on which part of the country I'm in, I get understanding and camaraderie or skepticism.

I think it is wrong to generalize all people of one race as alike, knowing or not knowing the same things. I am half Italian and half Irish, so I am categorized as white. Here's an interesting bit: I have had Black people tell me that Italians are not white. This is not true; I do not know where they got that idea. Anyway, I have three children and a grandchild. All are adults. My first born in 1972, had a Chinese father. She married a Black man and they had a son together. My second child born in 1980, has a Black father. She decided not to have children. She works with young children every day. My third child, a son born 1985, had a Puerto Rican father. He has blue eyes from a recessive gene. I knew nothing of recessive genes until he was born. A recessive gene can occur when a child has a grandparent on EACH side (cannot be two grandparents on one side) so my Irish mother had blue eyes; his dad's father was a blue eyed Puerto Rican. So a blue eyed grandparent on each side; my son inherited a recessive gene for blue eyes. A lot of folks do not know that Puerto Ricans can have blue eyes. Anyway, having Black people in my immediate family, I am pretty familiar with Black people. I also lived with my kids in a 99% Black neighborhood for 16 yrs. During that time the area became integrated with white people who had a bit more money to invest into the area (also known as gentrified) which was two sides of the coin, loss of families and low income people, along with improvements to infastructure, bigger tax base to pay for improvements (schools, play grounds, street lights, new businesses to create jobs, ect.) so I had Black friends, dated Black men (I was a single mother) and I've always liked Black people anyway and always had Black friends, before moving to that neighborhood. And no, none of my children are adopted; I gave birth to all of them at home with Midwives. I added that bit because I had people ask me if they were adopted! If my kids were white, they would have never asked. One more thing: My son has Black 10% Spanish not sure the percentage, Taino (the tribe in Puerto Rico before the Spanish invasion and colonization, which included the import of Black African slaves) Most of his genetics on his father's side is likely Taino. So my point is I'm not a "typical" white person (if there is such a thing) so please do not generalize.

One prejudicial trait I see among many black people, is the belief all white people are the same. There's quite a diversity among whites and blacks as well, in their attitudes towards each other and towards others. Growing up in the 60s, I was aware of segregation and the prejudices of people, both black and white. I never thought of one race as being superior to another. Academia attempted to instill the idea in me that blacks were inferior to whites and that it was necessary to compensate for their condition. This dogma was not only directed at me, but at all the other students, black or white. I think this attitude is still the undercurrent of academia and politics today. That's unfortunate, because most of us are a mix of both black and white. Labels seem to be put on people when their genes give a hint of certain racial features. Wasn't it Morgan Freeman who said the best way to end racism is to "stop talking about it."? Rather than tearing down statues of white people and giving awards to blacks because of the color of their skin, why don't we just award people for their accomplishments and ignore their skin color? Christ gave his life for love of people. So if you're in a church congregation that's not teaching you how to love without racism then that pastor is in error. It's not the responsibility of black people to teach white people to love. The Spirit of God is moving throughout the world. Listen to His voice and come out of the sin of hatred and selfishness.

Definitely agree that any church must teach us to love one another, looks and color and hairstyle and clothing choices aside. That being said, there's no need to condescend. It is all of our responsibility to teach each other to love when we have the opportunity, skin color be darned. It's not as if white people can't love and are expecting black people to bring in their expertise. Far more white people love others including black people than black people realize. Sometimes we can get so ingrained in family stories that include terrible experiences of the past that we don't look up and accept the love that is already there. Are some white people guilty of hatred and selfishness? Of course. As are some black people. We are all sinners in some way or another. I would submit the audience probably is unfamiliar with much of what she speaks. Somewhat agree. Getting her to define her platitudes at 11:00 and other points would be helpful. To determine her qualifications for making these statements, I would first like to hear her descriptions of her past and current interracial intimate relationships and those of her audience members. If she had even more time, I would like to hear her describe a typical day of an adult hispanic male, black female, black male, white male, white female, Pacific Islander, etc. I think she’ll begin to notice something.

Your right. and i really don't believe her kid didn't drink with his friends . Just my thoughts. Many people today have this sense of entitlement for whatever reason . I have never heard of a police officer bothering a kid that was sitting at a bench studying, or drinking a soda with a hamburg., They just don't do it. Regardless of what color they are. What bothers me is the same as you. If people had jobs and were watching over their kids , making sue they studied etc. Telling them they have to respect adults . Yea..if your going to be a gang member . go around robbing people, skipping school ..doesn't matter what race you are your not going to be too popular . There's no reason for all this race talk. Even in this day and age, something so simple shouldn't have meant so much to that guy :(

If evil is taught then who taught the first person? Evil had to have its human origin…While I do not believe we are evil at birth, we are tainted and good. Last, if you do not accept the Bible as truth then our conversation is fruitless since it’s where I begin.
As a white woman from the South, I was curious about what Amy had to say. She is correct in what she said. We really can’t identify with what a black child has to know to survive about our society in general in the US. That conversation was never taught to us or was even thought of growing up as a white child. I notice that it’s slowly changing in our community but racism is still strong especially with the older generations who grew up being taught (even subtly or unaware) to be racist. It really opened my eyes that we need to change in order to survive and thrive and truly love one another. We need to look into each other’s eyes more often and see the person inside their skin. I really liked that example.
White people are not colorless, we are also people of color. That saying “people of color” is ignorant. I’m 10% black but to look at me you’d think I’m Caucasian, not colorless!
I was raised in the south by a mother from eastern Europe. While racism was all around us, mom taught us to see how ignorant it was, and we grew up with clear knowledge & experience regarding racism, but without becoming racist ourselves. Quite the contrary: Mom's teaching innoculated us against racism, and I can easily recognize racism when I see it - and I have even fought against it. Racism is not limited to whites, but is a problem with all humanity. We should try to treat one another as truly human, fellow human beings, then racism goes away.
She is telling the raw truth which tends to make people uncomfortable which is why these conversations need to happen. I don’t know why the truth kills folks spirit so bad.

(2) We need to educate our children but focus on Economics and Politics, 2 of the most influencial aspects of Western society. When we concentrate on these things, we'll learn to work for and by ourselves and stop having expectations of other people including our own. Politics is important to learn to govern ourselves and to negotiate with other nations. Let's face it, Japan was down after the 2nd World War but are not anymore. Yes, we may have been down for longer but we need to broaden our horizon and look to Africa. With a good business plan, you can build a Blue Chip Company in Africa in FIVE YEARS! Go to Africa on a vacation and see for yourself how much development is going on there, not just by the Chinese but various projects all over Africa. It is not stricken with poverty like the media will tell you. I am a strong believer in the thinking that injustice, racism, victimization of any sort are clear indications of you not being wanted around so why stay? To fight for equal rights and justice only to be told you should grateful to be around them in THEIR COUNTRY, a land they stole and a people they victimized and killed then enslaved YOUR ANCESTORS? Stop being like a dog sitting by your slavemaster's table begging for scraps. The people today may not be the slavemasters of yesteryear but they and their have benefitted from slavery indirectly through the advent of the Industrial Revolution financed by slave money to what it is today. The society is built on the psychology of exploitation so to fight it is futile, everyone who has buck the system are targeted and humiliated then destroyed and what they have fought for destroyed by the powers that be :- they give you with one hand then take it back with the next. So, just work towards a better you by loving yourself, believing in yourself and strive to know yourself....not what people tell you, knowing your true self is knowing God/Allah/Jah/Eloh/, whatever you call the Divine Source of all that is because that is your essence. Your greater than what you have been told, good or bad, you are greater that so return home like the prodigal son and remember your greatness!

"We say hello to each other. We acknowledge each other with a smile or head nod. It is a sign of respect. It doesn't really mean "hi" I mean it means hi but it means more than hi, it means I see you , you are human"
This statement DOES translate over.
@@tonyareed5083 I think what you may have missed about the hotel amenities is that they were not selected with black people or POC in mind.
Rusty it's an entirely different thing with black people the head nod carries with it weight that most white people cannot understand. Because of how white people have treated us in this country, there is a lot that we communicate with just a look when we have to move in white spaces.

My third child, a son born 1985, had a
Puerto Rican father.

If black women feel slighted because the hotels don't provide the right conditioner, then why don't they just speak up? Hotels want their customers happy. So singling out white people as a "them" that don't know how to love when it may be the perpetuation of racist stereotypes about white people that is the wall between you doesn't make sense. It makes me sad to hear black folks say they expect others not to like them. But it's not because people don't inherently like them. Expect to be liked, and it changes one's confidence. Why does it always, i mean always why does it have to be a justification? Why can't you just acknowledge what she is saying, trying to see from her perspective (which apparently seems very hard ) and ask so how can we work things out how can we, where do we go from there to make things better for both parties. And this is something you rarely hear from the Caucasian side. Always trying to justify or challenge what the black are saying about their experiences I mean why not just listen and work together to improve things? She is not being condescending she says what she is going through. I mean were the caucasians victims of slavery? No. Are they been denying jobs because of their names? No. Are the young caucasians males being shot by the police at the same rate than the black? No. So if the black community want to tell you what they are going through I mean why do you have to keep questioning that? That is what makes reconciliation difficult . the ego and the lack of "let me just shush and listen because my brother seems hurt" kind of mentality. Its just a sad situation.

People who know their Bible don't need a minister to tell us not to be racist, but another thing is there's a lot of mistrust on both sides, it's not just a white person problem

We as African Americans and Afro West Indians ...need our own Black economy...that is one of the solutions to these ingrained racist policies 🤔
If people got more excited about Jesus and followed Him, obeyed Him and the things He taught us . . . then we might be better people. God didn't make this difficult for us. He gave us the gift of Jesus. Simple. Receive Him as your personal Savior and your Lord. Read the Word. Be a follower of Christ Jesus.
Do you know why I don't spend a lot of my free time searching for unicorns? Because I've never seen any conclusive proof that unicorns exist. It's for this same reason that I don't get "more excited about Jesus". I'd honestly like to know why you believe that the books in the Bible are accurate accounts of actual events. Because the Bible says it's true?
If you know your Bible then you know 1st Peter 3:15..." Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have"
So what's your reason as an intelligent, reasonable and logical adult who has had the benefit of at least 12 years of primary education? Faith? What good is faith? Faith is belief in the absence of evidence. If someone asked you to prove something and you had irrefutable evidence, you'd merely present the evidence and be done with it, you wouldn't need faith at all. Isn't knowing whether something is true or not important to you?

@@angieponders3844 ?? What are you talking about? No one is saying that you shouldn't talk about everyone's trauma. But some people have SPECIFIC trauma. If for example we talk about abuse. That doesn't mean that sexual abuse, mental abuse or physical abuse isn't IMPORTANT neither does it NEGATE its effects or negate the idea that it is all abuse. The word honky came from Afro-Americans describing more affluent people, mostly white, honking their horns at them while passing them in the road. During the Vietnam was the American name for Vietnamese was geeks. The Asians say geek not honk for the sound tooting the horns of their motorcycles. The point being this terminology was introduced by Afro-Americans in the US army as a racial slur towards Asians and their different culture. How can we know this? The average EuroAmerican is ignorant of the reason for the racial slur honky, The Father isn't in this evil church. I am white and the free shampoos in hotels make my hair dry and brittle and frizzy. They are cheap and not a good idea for ANY type of hair. I am northern european and when I worked in USA people coulnt pronounce my name so they made up a nickname. I was fine with that.
Why try to minimize and or dismiss the weight of the offense with assimilations that really dont assimilate you with what she means? By doing that you block the complete comprehension. While the hotel shampoos may not be the BEST for your white people hair , they are still FOR white peoples hair. The point is regardless to how cheap the shampoo may be it is provided out of consideration. Meanwhile not one product geared toward people of color is even considered necessary to be offered. Not even a cheap one. And as far as names are comserned...... Smh. Do you see what my name is? My name is butchered more often than not. The fact that you said you were always given a nickname and you were okay with it provides the proof that what you experienced and what she means are not the same thing. To be assigned a nickname without my suggestion or consent is offensive because am i not important enough for one to even put forth the effort of calling me by my given name? It may be okay to and for you but not so much for a people whos ancestors had their given names stripped away and replaced with the name of their oppressor. Be blessed.

I'm an Afro-Caribbean male born in the UK and raised in Jamaica, It still surprises me that talks like this gets responses like I've seen, both positive and negative. I've come to realize a few things over the years:-(1) no one with absolute power relinquishes it willingly or helps people deemed lower than themselves without having a hidden agenda so I say to people of colour, stop looking for reparation, 40 acres and a mule etc. It's not going to happen.
